Gorgeous! As I watched, I wondered how terrified people must have been when the town was built. Building in high places was a defensive strategy because it was not easily accessible, and you could easily see if advancing forces were coming to attack the town. The Middle Ages there must have been a very scary time. Fascinating.
That town is absolutely amazing and Gigi looks gorgeous and so grown! The grow up so quickly😂. Well this is another place that now I’ll have to go explore. I swear I will need 6 months to go everywhere I want in Southern Italy!!!!!
I love Maiera! We took that walk on 16th October to go to a wedding while we were over. Did anyone tell you about how the girls of Grisolia used to throw ropes down the gorge so that the young men of Maiera could climb up to court them? 😉 More than a few dads in Grisolia out with their sharpened knives I'll bet! 🤣🤣 Wonderful towns. We went to the wild boar sagra in Grisolia some years ago, it was fabulous! Singing, dancing, live music and great food and wine. Maiera's sagra took place in San Pietro the chiesa, wonderful times, looking forward to many more in the future!
Hi Sandra! How awesome! We will look for more festivals as the restrictions loosen up! There are so many treasures and events here! Seriously someone once asked me if I ever got bored here. How could I? There is something always going on!
I Kevin, This time of year we get some rain however there are many sunny days. Tomorrow and the next few days will be sunny. Check out the videos of Cirella and the drone flyovers of Scalea. Gorgeous weather. Tomorrow we will be in Cosenza and it is supposed ot be sunny. We will film there so you can see what it looks like.
What a beautiful town!... so peaceful... what would you say is the population there? Are there plenty of shops and restaurants like in SDT?.... Great video, so senic. love seeing the 3 of you walking around 😊
Hi Roberta! This town is a lot smaller than SDT and I only saw a BNB and a couple of shops farther down the hill but only a farmacia in the Centro Storico. Scalea is nearby however with the big supermarkets and shopping areas.
I love and want to move anywhere in Italy my only concern is that it’s cheap (100,000$ or less), not too far from a hospital and mom won’t get too lost in translation. I’m not worried about myself and I could translate for her. I don’t care if the people around me are decades older then me I just want mom to be content because me moving to Italy isn’t something she wanted and I want to convince her to stay much longer. Any recommendations? Please PS I love your content.
Scalea is a great place. It has its of ex pats and may English speakers who are a great group and really help each other out. The hospital is in Belvedere Marittimo and so about 30 minutes for Scalea. Very easy to get to. You could get a lovely apartment in that price range.
This is a very quiet town. I only saw two people in the Centro Storico while we were there. It needs new life but for someone who wants quiet, it is really stunning!
Chris I re-watched this so my husband could see it and he said, “but where are all the people?” So yeah there wasn’t one person to be seen. Is the population very low there?
I think in that town, yes, I have not seen a lot of people there in the historic center. There is a bar and meat store lower down and there were more people around there but now many. I think this town is for those who are looking for peace and quiet.
I'm 58 and studying residential electrical maintenance. My wife has Italian citizenship and we often we think about moving to a place like this when she retires. Do you thing there will be work to do for someone with my skills? I don't want to be retired and just do nothing hahahaha.

So true! I thought that too. Steep mountain sides for protection. That was a rough time for sure.
So True
Back to those days, the Saracens was a big problem in southern Italy...expecially near the sea as you can see at the beginning of the video.
That town is absolutely amazing and Gigi looks gorgeous and so grown! The grow up so quickly😂. Well this is another place that now I’ll have to go explore. I swear I will need 6 months to go everywhere I want in Southern Italy!!!!!
Hi Virginia, This is a really pretty place and the views are amazing!
I have to agree with everyone else….Gigi is growing up so fast. That town is amazing. Nice camera work!
Thank you Patrick! I need her to stop growing so she still fits under the seat on the plane!
Bellissimo Video! Tesori nascosti della Calabria che tante persone possono ammirare grazie a te Chris.
Grazie Franco! siamo felici di far conoscere questi tesori!
Loving the drone action and music, too! 👏💗 And Gigi is growing up so fast…adorable! 🐶

Truly beautiful. Thank you, Chris.
Thank you Roxanne! It is really breath taking!
Lovely place and Gigi is the perfect co-hostess. Why are there no people out and about? Thank you for the video!
Hello and thank you! Gigi says thank you too! Maiera is a town that seems to be very quiet. I only saw a couple of people out and about.
I love Maiera! We took that walk on 16th October to go to a wedding while we were over.

They really did a great job with the art pieces, thank you for this video of an updated Maierà (to me).
You are so welcome! It is so beautiful up there!
WoW fantastic intro 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 This is a really great vlog.
Thank you! So glad you are enjoying it!
Love the new views with the drone!

Gorgeous place on the mountain ridge!
It really is!
Amazingly beautiful!
It really is!
Look at the little punto lettura!
Amazing!
Love the video! My dogs' ears perked up when they heard your dog. Tell me, is it always cloudy in Calabria, or do you just film on cloudy days?

@@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC great, thank you😊
Cute hat, it suits you!
Thank you!
Hello. How's the seismic situation in that area? Great video as always.
Hi Rene! Italy does have earthquakes but the houses have to be seismically up to code when renovated.
These buildings are surprisingly well built. They have been there hundreds of years. No guarantees though!
What was the inscription near the heads? I saw “teste” before you whizzed past!
Hi Catherine! Gosh I did not catch that!

What a beautiful town. It looks so empty. Where are the people?

I was wondering the same thing about the people. Thanks for asking.
Who wants to live in a ghost town?
I'm 58 and studying residential electrical maintenance. My wife has Italian citizenship and we often we think about moving to a place like this when she retires. Do you thing there will be work to do for someone with my skills? I don't want to be retired and just do nothing hahahaha.
I think yes, expecially now that there are many private electicity supplier companies
Hi Rene! I think you can always find work with your skill set. A lot of people re moving here so I am sure there will be things to do!
there will be for an expat community
Where are the people?
This is a very quiet village. I only saw a few people.
