Another Bilstein 5100 guy here. Easy install in my driveway. Just turned the wheel to give me more clearance.
Do they make them for a stock 2019 f250 4x4 diesel?
All I’ve found is “lifted only”
I went with the Bilstein 5100’s really like them. Also great for pulling the 14,000 lb fifth wheel.
I am looking into them but they show for a 2-2.5" lift in the front. I didn't lift my front end. Are you running stock height in the front with these or did you lift the front?
Did you have a BW gooseneck ball? How did you deal with rear passenger side top stud for taking shock off?
Great video. Just changed the shocks on my 2011 F250’ 6.7. Had Rancho 7000s and they were stiff. Changed them because two leaked after a couple of years. Went back with the Rancho RS5000X and a new steering stabilizer RS5000. Super easy. Did it on my back-no lift required. If I remember correctly, the Rancho 5000 was the original shock on that truck. I like the softer ride. Ford wanted $670 or so to replace all 4. $333 off Amazon was the cheapest for the package.
Appreciate the video! I’m going to be replacing mine in my 14 soon.
I was taught to tighten/torque the bolts/nuts of suspension parts after the vehicle is returned to “curb” position or in this case, off the lift and back on the ground. Some people refer to this as “clocking” the suspension. This prevents the bushings from being stretched when the weight of the vehicle is returned to the bushings. Premature wear is prevented.
Glad to see this video Arod! Been wanting to change out my factories. I’ll be curious to see what you get my man 👍🏼
went Blisteins in 2009 on my 2000 F250SD, finally wore out and will go same make again, no complaints
Rancho 9000s on my ‘17 f350 SD dually. Tow 18k lbs 5th. Being able to adjust the rears when unloaded, and the lifetime warranty was the deciding points.
Great video!!!! I have Bilstein shocks on mine. Love them
This video came in handy especially using the vise grips with the shop cloth on the grips.
Since the bed was off it was easy access to a lot of items Replaced my ‘05 F350 SRW 200K miles, OEM shocks (still good enough) with Bilstein 5100 all around. Replaced all the fasteners with OEM as well.
I go to my Ford dealership so often for my build this summer, I’m on a first name basis with the guys!
Thanks for all the advice and videos!
You bettt buddd
Getting after it this weekend with the 5100's myself, stabilizer too. I'm still bone stock on the 2017 suspension-wise, factory wheels too. The Rancho's are coming off. 114K miles and pulling 11K with the 5th wheel, looking for another long stretch of miles.
I replaced mine on day one on my 2021 F350 dually with bilstein and did a dual front steering stabilizer with fox Factory were junk right off the bat. Had replaced the rancho junk on my 2019 F350 as those were junk also
Bilstein 5160's with a matching stabilizer 🤘 The Rancho's on the FX4's are the biggest piles...
Super easy to replace superduty shocks. I have done it in a parking lot before. Been through a few different ones. The cheapest ones I tried from Autozone worked well on road and to stiff offroad. But wore out within a couple months. Ranchero 5000 are pretty loose for a heavy duty truck on road. But did well offroad. Should have gotten the 9000 that are adjustable. Right now running stock ones on my truck since it's still under warranty. Interested in trying the Fox 2.0 on my new truck.
Fox 2.0's all the way! They make such a huge difference. Worth every penny.
Mines fx4 so it had ranchos from factory , actually just replaced them went with the factory ranchos since they had the covers
I installed fox 2.0 with remote revisor. They’ve been great to date.
Interesting. Thanks for the reply.
Box 2.0 are definitely the way to go. If you can get the Carli Fox part numbers they are specific Valving for the F2 50s and 350s you can check with suspension connection to find the specific part numbers for the Carly fox shocks
Nice new Shocks nice easy work as always
I just got an old school adjustable wrench and ground it down to fit for holding the shock while tightening/ loosening
Bilstein 4600s all around is what I had done. Fixed everything I had issues with. OE shocks were smoked early on.
Nothing against Fox but I didn’t see the necessity for a progressive shock.
Fox 2.0 love mine! Thanks!
Personally I did Bilstins very happy with the results.
Another Arod banger! Great video.
I love that you do most of it one handed
Always 💯
Bilstein 5100 I did them almost 2 years ago and love them. Was not bad at all right in the driveway. Thanks for the great work you do!
🙏🙏🙏
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod hey I’ve got 15 350 6.7 with 110k had it since it was new , noticed shiny gray oil when I changed the filter last week , nothing present in the actual oil or different color , any ideas ??? Or what to do , Thanks 👍
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod filter was only on for about a week then changed it due to a bad seal was leaking around filter , noticed the shine and color when I swapped it for another new one
Hmmmm
I went Bilstein. I wanted to try Fox but couldn't justify the additional cost over Bilstein. As I understand it, the ride is very similar between the Fox and the Bilstein and they are both significantly different that the oem.
OEM = Progressive dampening
Fox = Linear dampening
Bilstein = Digressive dampening
Aaron you amaze every time. You do more work in 20 mins with one hand and holding a camera then most guys do in eight hours. Another awesome video. Ford should have you do their maintenance videos.
Thanks pal, too BAD FoMoCo wants nuthing to do with us
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Their loss
Bilstein 5100 AT 31,800 MILES. All four wheels and the steering. Death wobble forced the front end work. Rears were just to keep all new. 2019 F250 CCLB FX4.
Mine started leaking around 110k fx4 changed to fox. Big difference, I’ll do fox again once its time. Im at 202k now and no problems
I had 2 leaking at 30k. I went with Rancho RS9000 all around with the billstein damper.
The OEM shocks suck & were the 1st things I replaced on my 2021 F-350! I went with Rancho XL’s . The difference is night & day !
I bought "Motorcraft" front shocks for my '00 Mountaineer; received OESpectrum shocks, not Motorcraft.
Also, I bought a shock absorber tool; it made them easy to remove them,
Tool is from Lisle, tool number is 20400. $13.00 at O'Reilly's.
Sweet my man. Looking at some fox 2.0’s!
If you have a B&M gooseneck prep pkg, you’re going to have fun with that passenger rear shock! This was a chore when I replaced my rancho’s with Bilstein 5100’s. 😫👍🏼
In frustration I got the grinder out. The hitch was NOT compromised, I assure you that I was madder than a wet rooster though, lemme tell you. Called the Dealer and advised them to let their installer know. Perhaps they'll mod the end of the channel tube on that side and spare the next poor bastard a headache. I wish I knew how to add pictures...
@@jefferwin7787 I ended up unbolting that cross channel. Pain in the ass! That thing is under tension, and had to use a floor jack and a 2x4 to push up and line the bolt pattern up.
I went with the Bilstein 4600's and honestly, I'm not all that pleased with them. I think it really stiffened the ride. In hindsight, I think I should have gone back with the OEM. I also put on a dual steering stabilizer with the Bilstein stabilizers.
I put Fox 2.0 on my 2018 F250 about 20,000 miles ago. The difference in ride quality is awesome and I no longer have the bucking that I had with OEM shocks. The Fox keep the truck on the ground.
Did they help tamp down the boot up the ass you get over low speed bumps?
@@Van-tastic yes it did, also helped the ride immensely with the ten ply tires.
@@randiray8640 good to know, I thought they might be a little to off road focused across their product line
My 2020 has just turned over 65k and I am beginning to search for some shocks. Right on time PTT! 👊
I am in the same boat on my 2020 6.7. I just went over 61k miles and have 1 rear shock that looks a little wet but not too bad. Dealer said that a little weeping is acceptable per Ford but I'm not so sure I agree. I'm curious what ARod has to say on that. I'm leaning towards the Bilstein 5100s as well but still researching.
Think we're gonna do Foxys
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod nice man. Can’t wait for the video and what you decide on.
Curious on how to know what to order for a leveled duty?
Sorry pal, im sure someone will comment, i do not know.
Put Bilstein 5100 on my 22. Only had 18 miles on the OEM ones 😎
I thought OEM for the fx4 package used Rancho branded shocks.
Curious if aftermarket shocks (Bilstien, Fox) with improve the ride over bumps on an F-450. Stuck with the all steel commercial tires, so can't change that without a wheel change and I don't care to be spending $8-$10K for wheels and tires.
Fox 2.0 all day long. Love me some Arod videos
ARod, you do pretty dang good with one hand. Lol
Thanks budddddy
Great video!
🙏
I hate the Way my DUTY rides. Back end has a shake on it at 60-75km/h. Dealr said I'm out of balance. They recommend ground force tire balance. I had to remind the dealer my truck is all stock. Anyways I got them balanced. Still same issue. I'm just gonna do the shock and tires . I hope that makes sense. #1 FoMoCo tech
firewoodfred says "as a longtime Ford user and employee always use new rubber isolators and hardware when replacing with new shocks" !!!
Good luck 👍
5100's x 5 for my 2017. Pretty good.
I have a 2021 f350 dually fx4 getting a knocking from the front in the floor boards/pedals you guys experiencing this? I brought it too ford twice and they keep saying cant duplicate its pretty clear. Im about to try a different dealer
I had a front shock top nut come loose and fall off. Then the shock jumped out of its home and was just floating free. lol, Passenger side and it was a Fox 2.0 shock.
Yep. My front shocks are leaking on my 21 f-250 Fx4. Considering swapping to Bilstein or foxes.
Buddy has bilsteins on his F-250, I think they’re real smoove! I might go that route myself
Have Bilstien 5100 on my 2015 and love them
Shocking 🤣🤣 running take off ranchos because free is for me.
Ready to put Bilstein 4600’s on mine!
I have a 2014 somehow the front right shock managed to break the mount off the axle
My 2 front shocks are leaking and they are Fox 2.0 BDS. Not sure how long they last but I have had the truck 2 years now and 30000 miles
Oh my god! How you got the shock off from the top! I am learning so much!
🤦♂️🤦♂️
Updated mine on my 2017 with upgraded Rancho 9000 . So much nicer ride
How are they holding up? I just ordered some for my 17 as well
Ok, I’ll be the dummy here. I have the stock Rancho’s on my 2017 F350 Dulley. No leaks. I always thought they were good unless they were leaking. Educate me here. I have 42000 on the truck currently. Thanks for your input!!
Think we're gonna do some Foxys
Don’t like wise grips stripps open end assuming 18 mm?
Replaced OEM FX4 on my '20 F350 CC SB KR 6.7 at 44k. Went with Bilstein 5100's all around. Noticeable difference. OEMs wouldn't expand sitting on the ground until a couple minutes past. Should have bought the skid plat separate and skipped the FX4 pkg.
I am planning on changing my shocks in the next day or two. I am thinking about the 5100's. Is your front end lifted or stock height? I didn't lift my front end but want to go with these shocks but they don't show any for the front for stock ride height. They show 2-2.5" lift. I am curious if it's okay to use them on a stock ride height or not.
Thought about the Bilsteins but went the less expensive route.
How you doing. I’m a new subscriber and I’ve been amazed by your knowledge. Now I have a 2012 super duty that bounces really bad. It’s ridiculous that amount of bounce it has. I’ve replaced the front shocks with Rancho off-road because it’s what the dealership told me. Not the brand but to replace the front ones. Now did I notice any difference? Not at all. What do you think it is??
Id have 2 insoect the truck kind sir
2022 f350 kr 3800 miles oems where leaking put Ranchos on seem to be a little better than facotry
So far NO LEAKY🤞on the oem shocks with 65k on my '18 drw...when it's time, leaning towards Bilstein 4600(not wild about the yellow & blue color😒)but that's the one for stock height...have had several people tell me the ride is much better than oem towing or non towing...later👍💪💯

Everyone is talking about fox and bilstein shocks, how do rancho shocks compare to them?
Right on time Again, ive got 5100 series Bilstein and im not to fond of them, real stiff, i want a softer ride, any recommendations?
Have installed a set of fox 2.0 client was thrilled
Interesting video. Debating on whether or not to install a set of Bilsteins on my '21. I'm still at only 25K kms, so I'm not needing new shocks yet. My main priority is driving comfort, especially on the highway. For those who are more knowledgeable, what's the difference between the blue and yellows, and the silver and blacks? Is one better suited for off road rough terrain use, and the other for on road use?
@Michael Chan Hey, go to channel Shock Surplus they give a great comparison between Bilstein 5100 s/b & 4600 y/b...I have a drw & so does most the people I've asked we're all at stock height...like I said before, have heard the drw crowd love the 4600...hope this helps...later tonight LSW👍💪💯
4600 series is for stock ride height, 5100 is for lifted up to 2". They have the same valving, but the 5100 have longer strokes. One is steel shell, the other aluminum.
Class is in session 👍

May do Ranchos on mine.. 2008:6.4 f250 lariat bought new in 2008 and have 60,000 on it.. any suggestions for intermittent airbag 12 code. Does not come on every trip, if it comes on it is within first 30 miles and if I stop for fuel, eat, etc..start back up not on and never comes back on for trip.. been happening for about the last year.. swapped out batteries, clock spring, etc.. same issue.. just random. 12 is voltage drop… never had any issues with truck.. pull 5th wheel with it.. only on 2nd set of tires garages. Thanks.. love your vids..just do rear diff fluid change off your vid.
You can email us for diag help.
Do different shocks void your suspension warranty other than the shocks being replaced. I was thinking the bilstein 5100
No, absolutely NOT
My pick ups both have the B&W hitches and there isn't enough room to get shock off of the top post on passengers rear. What do you do about that? I figured you would have to loosen plate and drop it down. Not good engineering on B&W's part.
Havent encountered that one...
Hey ptt how about a video for rear sway bar links
Oooo good idea
If you had a choice between bilstein shocks or fox shocks what would you use on a 2019 Ford f350 superduty dually 6.7
Fox
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks alot. I forgot to put it is a 4x4 superduty.
What up PTT!
Van B, yooooo+
Mine came with Fox shocks
You didn't mention it, but wasn't there a recommendation of expanding the rubber insulators to the same diameter as the washers at the top the front shocks?
Not that i am aware of
Doing this on my truck this weekend, would you know the torque specs for these . Trying out the fox 2.0
Off hand I do not. Tight is what they need to be. Tight like lug nut tight
Hey a-Rod i have a question for you. I have a 1999 F-350 SRW 4x4 super duty with the 7.3L. It’s a crew cab 8 foot bed truck. I’m looking for factory OEM shocks for the truck but there is several different OEM shock options for that truck. 3 different dealers gave me 3 different OEM shock part numbers. Any ideas on what OEM motorcraft shocks to go with. Thanks in advance!
Mike
Ooooof i dunno id have 2 look at the catalog for that
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod, any help is much appreciated. I don’t want aftermarket, i want to keep this old girl as factory as humanly possible. She only has 149K on the odometer so she’s still a baby.
PTT what's your opinion on the shocks from the Tremor trucks?
Nuthin special
Why did you replace the nut/bolt sets? Or did I miss that?
Part of WSM procedure. On time use, pal
Passenger rear is a real pain if your truck has a b&w turnover ball hitch installed.
Bilstein 5100s are not a good match for these trucks . Truck is too heavy and don't last . 50k miles and 2 sets later im looking for new brand . 5100s on ½ tons last forever but on HD trucks not so
What is the recommended mileage to change them out?
Really depends
Did Ranchos ever come on the fx4 from factory?
Long ago
Thy on my 2005 F250 FX4 They used to only be on the FX4 package older diesels.
Tremor SD shox any different from standard fx4.
Not sure about that
Bilsteins
What do i search for to order the mounting hardware?
If they're after market shocks, they should come with them. If they're factory, you'll have to get him separate
What are they called?
New bolts and rubber isolators
Sorry for the typos
👍👍👍👍
Has anybodys superduty factory shocks actually hold up? I had to replace all 4 of mine at 45k miles I just went with the cheap Monroes but they gotta be better than the factory junk they seem to use these days. My old superduty had the original shocks till well over 100k and they still weren't bad when I changed them I just did it for the he'll of it
Currently debating getting the Monroe Monro-Matics. How are your Monroes holding up? Good?
@MrLeviaFUN they seem just fine they've been on there a few months and probly 10k miles I thought it would have had a better ride but that's solid front axle for ya
Anything but putting OEM's back on. I guess when it's under warranty it isn't so bad, but doing it yourself twice as often, isn't worth it.
