This car is great for long distance travel i drove from Corpus Christi Tx to Los Angeles full tank of gas when i left Texas and i only spent $106 on gas 1600+ miles. My average miles per gallon were 33. From Los Angeles to Corpus Christi I spent $152 based on the higher gas prices in California and Arizona.
Got to tell ya steve, Genesis has the startings of being a solid premium brand. The G80 is a stellar looking sedan. It's got just about all the goodies and will be much better with its refresh in '18. I think in a few years Lexus will be looking in its rear view mirror at Genesis and be worried. Now let's not talk about resale. Just take a look at older Hyundai Genesis resale figures. Abysmal is being courteous.
VERY NICE. Here's hoping for better mpg and Apple CarPlay in 2018. And look forward to the G80 Sport. Love these Sport trims when they truly performance (Elantra, Fusion, and now this).
But what's the long term reliability like? For a car like this I'd like to hold it for 10 years as a daily driver with minimal issues. I know I can get that with an LS460.
My relatives has lots of Hyundai's due to employee discounts. Like many Koreans, I do have some anger against this brand. Aunt just got this car, test drove it, ride whole day and I AM impressed. I wasn't impressed with Sonatas and Santa Fe btw.
I only see one straight up competitor to the G80. I base it on features and pricing. Many would say Cadillac CT6, but I think it is more performance tilted. To me, it's the new Lincoln Continental. (When's Steve gonna test the new Lincoln without feeling like Matthew McConaughey?)
I personally think that the Genesis is a little too high priced for the quality you get especially if you start comparing it to the Luxury Brands. To me this compares more with the Cadillac Xts, Buick Lacrosse, Ford Taurus, Chevy Impala, Toyota Avalon, Lexus ES, Nissan Maxima, Chrysler 300, Kia Cadenza, Infinity Q50, Acura RDX, and POSSIBLY lower trim levels of the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS, Mercedes E-Class, and the Jaguar XF; I am sure I am missing some. But, to say this goes with the CT6 is a long stretch I think the G90 goes more with the CT6 and the G80.
Hey Steve. I think this is sweet ride but the 2018 will be much improved from the info I've seen. Also, I wonder when the G70 will debut considering that the Kia Stinger platform mate comes out later this year.
The top-of-the-line Hyundai Genesis here in Aus is AU$90,000. Used, 1 year old with ~24,000km asking AU$44,000. That is ridiculous!! I don't even know how Hyundai are selling these things here?!?! Must be fleet customers or people with frontal lobotomies. I think a Lexus would be a MUCH better alternative on this Island. And no, we don't have the Genesis brand here, only Hyundai.
Have seen some Uber Blacks in Aus but apart from that i have not really seen any. 90K when compared to the competition is not that great though still about 20% cheaper than a 5 Series or similar
What do you make of this: "Hyundai’s all-new Genesis took the top spot in ALG’s Residual Value Awards for the Premium Full-Size Car segment. The 2015 Genesis is projected to retain the highest percentage of its original price after the typical ownership period of three years compared to competing models."
TestDriveNow Reviews by Auto Critic Steve Hammes that's a JOKE , my $51k 2016 3.8 Hyundai Genesis with 12k miles has a NADA, KBB and black book of $29,000 in 1 year of ownership . I looked to trade it in , and I buy cars ever year and I got offers from $27k to $29k.
Also , in 2017 Genesis is giving new owners 3 year complimentary valet service, 3 years maintenance, 3 years free map updates, 3 years blue link, and 3 years Sirius xm- I have to pay thousands more and have none of those services , and that same car in 2017 is $1000 lower than my msrp with same equipment
P.s- For reference, I bought a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland , msrp $44,150. I paid $39k... 8 months later , I can get $38k on a trade or sale - That's a resale value I prefer- Maybe in the long haul it will even off in 3-5 years but the owners who bought early are getting SCREWED royally !! Nice looking & driving car but poor Customer relations in my own satisfaction of experience !! Hyundai should allow lease transfers too, like many luxury car companies . I am open to learning something else, if anyone can assist ! Thx
Absolutely phenomenal car.

Abel Vega was that on one full tank of gas or filling up twice ?

Can't argue with anything this review states. I'm really happy with this car.
Oh first time first! Great review as always!
Thanks, Kevin!
its amazing how these guys keep forgetting the best part, 10 yr or 100000mile warr.
I live in upstate ny, when i noticed the infotainment saying where i lived, i was shocked lol
Born and raised in the 518!
@@stevehammes glad to see someone local doing great car reviews! Gives me a great look on how the cars will behave where i locally drive

Enjoy it now folks, because once that brand recognition kicks in, the price tag will skyrocket.
4 yrs later and the premium package for this model is 29k
@@Potheadahh No way it’s $29k more
@@NileshR12 35k max for a low 5-20k mile 5.0 g80 they have had one of the worst price drops out of a lot of car companies in recent years
@@Potheadahh Send me a link because this is my favorite brand and favorite car. The one's I have seen are still up there in price even for a used one.
The matte wood trim and subtler interior styling is better executed in this than in the G90
Another winner from Gangnam!
Chicken dinner!

it almost seems too good to be true at its used price point today. Does anyone have any input on how these are holding up used?
Genesis could use night vision assist!
Nice review. Vs. Buick LaCrosse?
This
I have the same everything but it’s Ibiza blue

Steve - what are your thought about long term reliability of the G80?
It’s too early to say however you might find this article helpful... www.jdpower.com/cars/ratings/quality/2019/midsize-premium-car
is the 2018 going to be a total redesign or the equivalent to a mid-cycle refresh?
A refresh, but a significant one.
Awesome car, great review.
Thanks!
you and driven car reviews always post the same and almost at the sometime lol love ur reviews thoe
Oh! I didn't know that.

CT6 Platinum is above this cars grade buddy.

I've got it on my schedule for May..finally! Genesis considers the CTS as this car's competitor.
steve any news on the test drive off the dodge daytona? and camaro zl1? :)

Awesome review, truly! Great job! 😊 I think this goes against the Lexus GS, right?
Thanks, Diwa!
Guys how do I change from miles mph to km in my g80 2017??
great review Steve! any new,s on the charger daytona and camaro zl1? :-)
This is all I've got for you as of now...ua-cam.com/video/Px7hJsfwgTk/v-deo.html
Top Up G80
I have a g80 and I definitely have Apple CarPlay.

Bob808 exactly I unfortunately own a 2016, which got screwed without the extra $5000 in free 2017 perks to offset its horrid residuals ...
Genesis is better than lexus
Quality+reliability for less money
no rear seat usb?
Negative.
Wow, thanks for the reply. Keep up the awesome work. I love your vids. So awesome. Greetings from the island of Nevis in the Caribbean.
What I wouldn't give to be where you are right now! It's freezing here in NY.
Hahaha come on down and review my twin turbo Subaru Legacy B4 RSK version, from Japan.
This thing wants to be an Audi so badly.
G
Stepside lots of Geneses were coupes
Bc the Genesis head designer is from Audi and Bentley! This looks better than the A6 IMO.
Genesis is way more reliable than an Audi.
Nice looking till you find out it loses 40% of its value once you drive away. I know, I own 1. Worst depreciation in market!!

G80 sport.
not that nice
Hyundai needs to have GENESIS dealerships, and definitely need to refresh this car and the ugly G90
