So many missed opportunities for great interviews because he draws the conversation back to himself once he’s knocked back a few. Julian Lennon has always softened my heart. Seems like a tender soul.
What really bugs me is how Sean Lennon is old enough to know that his brother, Julian, got screwed over by Yoko through being deprived of a share of John Lennon's music catalogue--Sean is old enough to actually do something about it, but chooses not to, and despite this, Julian shows him love and kindness---far more than he deserves. Just shows what a great guy Julian is
Every time I hear Julian talk he seems like the most genuinely nice person you could ever meet. I hope Paul McCartney makes time soon to sit down with him and share those untold stories of his father.
@@shazzaseesit kinda makes me mad! Imagine being in Julian’s position … meanwhile his dad’s lifelong best friend is alive and well, the keeper of all his memories and his truth, and Paul doesn’t have the time? Julian is 60 years old. Too bad Paul didn’t step up.
Julian was the lucky son of the two, he got the great Mum, and that’s the best prize of all. Having to buy back your own birthday cards you sent to your dad, says so much about the most evil of evil step mothers. Julian is a real star of a human being.
Julian Lennon is a remarkable human being! His mother raised a wonderful person! Julian has risen above and has become a loving, accepting, appreciative , forgiving, kind and giving person. Julian is an inspiration and role model for us all! He really should do motivational education in person or some format!

I hope Julian didn’t feel overshadowed by his father and Bill’s fan talk….”your father, your father….”. Julian’s father abandoned him and his father was murdered. His beloved mother passed away, and he truly loved and misses her. He has had a lonely life in many ways. Melancholy. Julian you are unique and wonderful. Good job Cynthia.
Tremendous respect for Cynthia. His mom was a great woman and a great mother as evidenced by what a good, respectful and decent person she raised in Julian. RIP Cynthia 🙏
He's 20 years older than his Dad ever got to be. It's time for him to get over all that. Without that nepotism no one would have heard of him. He has talent but not his Dad's talent, and most talented people do not make it in music. The reason he has any notoriety is his Dad so of course it will be asked about. I feel more for the people who don't get anywhere because they aren't advantaged by nepotism.
@@sup9542 Exactly! They're probably all nice people, and do have some talent, but nobody would have ever heard of Julian, Sean or any of the other Beatle's kids if not for their fathers.
It shows that Julian was raised by his mom Cynthia, who was a good woman. His father may be my idol but he acted horribly with Cyn and Julian. Even blurted out that the small settlement he gave his ex was like « winning the bloody pools » (lottery in UK slang). How Julian got to be a decent human and being friends with Sean is a testament to his good soul. Great episode !
I've always loved Jules, he's such a good guy. Too bad Bill only wanted to talk about his dad and the Beatles. Julian has fantastic photography and also the White Feather Foundation, not to mention all of his fantastic music. He barely had time to talk about his stuff
Bill was a complete bore. While he sat there getting buzzed and tipsy, Julien grew frustrated with Bill's lack of interest in Julien personally and Julien's interests (which is what he was there for). I laughed when Bill commented "We should hang out together" . . . as if Julien wants to hang out with Bill Maher. Probably not gonna happen. Julien wanted out of that interview as soon as Bill started to feel the liquor. Julien knows he has to live his own life through his father and "Hey Jude" which he is entirely sick and tired of.
Remember watching an interview with Sean where all the interviewer talked about was his father and things that he did and Sean got pissed and had to remind him " I have a lot of stuff too "
I wanted to know more about Julian, his photography, his relationships with family. I felt bad for him that he had to talk about his dad, yet again I'm sure!!, and he's so fascinating on his own. It was a shame he was interrupted to much, and even when he was talking, I was getting interruption anxiety because he will be cut off any second. Still, happy to see this man and wish him all the best.
There's no way that Bill hasn't been told by his staff who put his podcast together, that hundreds & hundreds of people have been commenting frustratedly about the interrupting. It obviously doesn't matter to him. It's annoying. That & he lives in a bubble.
When the interviewer does most of the talking and the guest remains gracious. Julian Lennon is very accomplished and just a fabulous human. It's clear that Maher just comes off as a Beatles fan ....
Bill needs to watch one of his chats, this one would be an excellent example. Self reflection would do him wonders. He was an insensitive ass in this one. Beyond that, everyone has heard him expound ad nauseam on “Covid Science Misinformation”, which wasn’t the topic he was discussing, but he was either too drunk or too stoned to listen to his guest.
Also, why would Bill think that Julian had any thoughts about Biden? Glad that topic died quickly. Bill has very little class. It really shows when he’s talking to someone with a lot of class
I feel this mans pain.... everything Julian has spoken about mentally. Resonates within me... does not matter who you are in life, once that black cloud hovers over you, its very hard to shake it. 😢
He needed it dealing with Bill who will disagree with everyone. I thought John Cougar Melocamp was gonna pop him in the mouth for a second during his interview. It was funny to watch Bill back down and kiss his ass after he pissed him off.
Poor Julian sitting through another interview that’s predominantly focused on his Dad and The Beatles. Where are the questions about Julian’s music, photography, White Feather Foundation etc.? Such a sweet and humble guy. His mom, Cynthia who raised him has to be so proud♥️
Julian tries to be real and himself. He knows he is a son of a famous father and does his best to handle the stress from that. I like him. He tries to describe himself and his work. Give him a break and complement him for how he handles himself😊
I won’t stand idly by and have you accuse Sir Bill of Maher in this way. He gives ample time to his lucky guests to say something of interest and if they fail, he picks up the slack and maintains momentum. Nobody wants to hear this random guy’s personal anecdotes. I think Bill should write and direct Julian’s life story, it seems he has a better grasp on what’s important.
@@Matlockization Funny how "happy" people seem to need so much external things to feel happy. I might not have billions but I'm glad I don't need to get high or drink a lot to be content. What a joy this has been to spend 2 hours watching and listening to this amazing and fascinating exchange. How genuine Julian is and remains to his true self. I couldn't help but feel how proud his mom and dad would be to see what a wonderful, sweet, and incredibly compassionate man he has become. Absolutely loved this! Thank you so much Bill!!❤
Lovely to see and listen to a wise relaxed 60 year old Julian. It would have been great to have his father, who passed at 40, reach that age. The world missed John's wise years.
I'm only halfway through this and already can feel Julian's uneasiness over not getting adequate time to express himself. Julian is thoughtful and will answer in depth but is interrupted repeatedly. His body language shows he isnt really comfortable here. Julian is frustrated because he has alot of worthy stuff to share 😢...no need to bring Madonna or others up...he is so intelligent and awesome...I'd love to hear lots more from him ❤
So true. Know when to stop talking about yourself, Bill! Julian had so much about his life he could have shared, and he never got the chance, because Bill kept interrupting him to go on and on about Julian's dad. Terrible.
One of these two is charming, honest, engaging as hell and is a person who I think, could have a great conversation with anyone. The other one really enjoys his own company more than I ever would.
Julian seems like such a real guy, thoughtful, intuitive, friendly, and certainly plenty of history and ideas to chat about. And Bill still can’t help spending half the time talking over him.
Julian should not only CALL Paul, but they should record a song together before it's too late. Their voices would sound fastastic together and if they write a song together it would be a new one by Lennon and McCartney 😊
@@jeanmyers1787Should have been a long time before "Now and Then". The song really has nothing to do with Julian🤷♀️. I actually WISH he had been a small part of it.
Billy is too selfish and self centered to let a great like Julian Lennon take the spotlight from him. He’s a different man since 1967. John loved Paul. Billy he hated. Poor Julian, he did not know what was going on then suddenly the witch, Yoko, comes on scene, hypnotizing his father. This will make a great book one day when all is revealed. A great tragedy for Julian, (who I’m sure knows), and the world.
I've had the wonderful experience of being alone with Julian and talking to him. He truly is genuinely lovely. I think he is playing life well. Staying out of politics and focusing on his life. Well done son!

I feel the weight of Julian’s childhood pain. I have my own childhood/family pain that I have been processing my whole life. It doesn’t go away and affects you forever. I admire his creative output!
I can’t begin to comprehend Julian’s pain from witnessing John’s immense devotion and interaction with Shaun, and being the househusband so he could be completely hand’s on in the raising of Shaun w/Yoko. To always be there. I admired that John stepped up to be completely available, but always felt that it must’ve been a double slap for Julian. Especially after John had such little involvement with Julian! In the end, celebrities are just people with different jobs than most. Have always thought that it wasn’t worth the exchange for having to give up so much freedom that we non-celebrities take for granted. You can be very proud Julian…you’ve been through it and seem like a true compassionate gentleman! I hope you are as happy as can possibly be, and live a long, peaceful life 🌻💜
Julian….you are such a lovely, lovely, man. Such a sensitive soul who has been hurt straight through the heart. It’s tragic really that he does not have a child who together he could mend his heart and ultimately be the father he never had. It’s heartbreaking to feel his pain. He certainly had a huge effect on Bill, who became a better person just by being in his presence…
I LOVED this episode! Julian has always been, to me an underrated musician. He looks fantastic, he’s a pleasure to hear speak about his legacy, he is so polite, and love Bill’s reference to his Bergen County roots with his reference to the Nanuet Mall!

Yes! Telling Julian about the story, he already knows… Bill starts off great. The drinking killed him. It really fucked up his interview. He kept telling Julian common knowledge stories. There are plenty of interesting stories about Julian, not the Beatles.
I watched this solely for Julian - Bill’s drunk high fan girl Beatles love was a tad much - Julian is such a kind soul and wicked funny and cheeky - wish I could have heard MORE of Jules …………
Thank you Julian for helping with lupus. I have had this awful disease for many years and it is getting harder each year. Thank you again for your help.
This is the only episode of Club Random I've watched entirely. The sincerity and thoughtfulness and genuineness of Julian is incredible. Both of John Lennon's kids, in fact, seem very authentic and talented and soulful. Looking forward to Julian's and Sean's eventual collaboration.
It must be frustrating for Julian to have to always talk about his dad and the Beatles. Bill forgot to ask about what Julian is up to, what he is working on or what's important to him.
I follow Julian on FB and he is a GEM. For a son of a legend (something he cannot escape) I am pleasantly surprised at how ground he is and always was. He is an awesome musician too. I would love to chat with him like this!

What a great conversation with these two. I didn't want it to end. And to think, I almost passed it up. Julian is such a sweet, sensitive human, Cynthia did a great job raising and loving him. When he said "You just think that she'll be around forever" hit me hard cuz I recently lost my mom too.
Bill spends the first ten minutes talking about Julian and then the next hour and a half talking about himself and The Beatles. I have a feeling this is the kind of radio interview that Julian mentioned was burning him out with anxiety.
had the same feeling. I don't know why Bill thought Julian would enjoy talking or discussing the Beatles. I have a feeling this is precisely what he wanted to avoid in his life. Hence him saying that he didn't even want to go and see Get Back. You can sense his anxiety throughout this interview.

The thing I respect most about Julian is that he has every reason to be angry with his father, but the media has always been, "your Dad this" or "your Dad that" and he's managed to make peace with it and be just a gentle soul about the whole thing.
He should have made peace with it decades ago, at least in public. In private go to therapy, work through it. But he's still whinging in public. "Hey Jude" gets mentioned and he has a pained reaction. Have some humor, man. He's gone through life without ever having to get a job. It's a pretty good deal.

A great interview. Julian is very kind, revealing and patient with Bill’s fan girl obsession with his Dad’s band. He navigates it all very graciously. It would be all-encompassing to have John Lennon as your Dad, especially in that business. Him and Sean did very well and both make great music.
“Get Back” is poignant and full of treasured memories. It must have been a bittersweet experience for Julian to see his father in his element like that. He seems a very kind, decent person.
Really nice to have 2 hours to start to get to know Julian. I have only seen short clips of him over the years. I'm sure both his Mom and his Dad would be very proud of who he has become. A true British Gentleman...
I hope Julian does more live shows and tours more as he gets older. He's so incredibly talented and with the right band, he could put on a blisteringly good show full of emotion, energy, gravitas.
I first heard the Beatles when I was 5 years old and am a huge John Lennon fan with enormous respect for his abilities. He was the reason I became a musician. The way he talks about his mom just hits my heart. Julian and Cynthia, two beautiful people.
Bill , easy on Julian! His soul knows too much pain … you’re talking about his father and I can see there’s a lot of heartache there.Thank you for this extremely deep discussion . Julian , you have a sensitive, loving heart . I wish you peace.

I love Bill Maher, and he has said he doesn’t read comments, but I wish someone would water down his booze during these interviews. So many missed opportunities for great interviews because he draws the conversation back to himself once he’s knocked back a few.
Julian Lennon has always softened my heart. Seems like a tender soul.
He was aweful in this interview....talks about himself of being 60 and no kids which is cool. What a moron!
I don't love him and think he's terrible at interviews - he's far too self involved and clueless.

So sweet how Julian talks about his love for his mom. He seems like an amazing person.
Just shows what a great guy Julian is
That's a good point. Sean could and should do right by Julian
Maybe sean will make it up to julian once Yoko passes.

Every time I hear Julian talk he seems like the most genuinely nice person you could ever meet. I hope Paul McCartney makes time soon to sit down with him and share those untold stories of his father.
I agree. ASAP 😉
I was so sad to hear that this time was NOT made during all of these years.😢
@@shazzaseesit kinda makes me mad! Imagine being in Julian’s position … meanwhile his dad’s lifelong best friend is alive and well, the keeper of all his memories and his truth, and Paul doesn’t have the time? Julian is 60 years old.
What a wormhole for the evening, I’ve gone from my own Beatlemania and crush on Lennon to learning more about his personal life and just being so sad at the wake of damage he left for the people who couldn’t have loved him more.

Julian Got his fathers looks and talent, unlike Sean, who sings and looks like Joko!

I think the reason he does not have any kids is due to Johns absentee father trauma
@@HumbleTrader001 Sometimes not being heard of is a blessing.
Julian is so kind and humble.
Julian is such a sweet man. His protection over Sean and pride in Sean is so touching.
Long time listener, first time commenter. Julien is a good person with such a gentle soul, it makes me happy that he is in our world. ❤
What a sweet man. ❤ So nice to see. His Mom did a wonderful job under incedible circumstances. RIP Cynthia.❤ All the best Julian.
I've always loved Jules, he's such a good guy. Too bad Bill only wanted to talk about his dad and the Beatles. Julian has fantastic photography and also the White Feather Foundation, not to mention all of his fantastic music. He barely had time to talk about his stuff
That's because Bill is an egotistical, self-centered, smug piece of work.
Bill is an arrogant drunk who only cares about himself (and in this case The Beatles) Kudos to Julian for not walking out of the interview.
I'd say that is the story of his life. Always in the shadow of the Beatles & his Dad
Remember watching an interview with Sean where all the interviewer talked about was his father and things that he did and Sean got pissed and had to remind him
" I have a lot of stuff too "
I wanted to know more about Julian, his photography, his relationships with family.
Same. Disappointed in Bill.
At the same time, we don’t know if Julian said certain topics were not to get deep. He is rightfully sensitive to all of this.
When the interviewer does most of the talking and the guest remains gracious. Julian Lennon is very accomplished and just a fabulous human. It's clear that Maher just comes off as a Beatles fan ....
Wow! Julian is such a sensitive guy. The pain of his childhood is still so prevalent. Truly a lovely person.
Bill you missed a great opportunity to let Julian shine. He was put on his heels early and stayed there I felt.
I feel the same way!
It's a choice..believe me! It's a more difficult choice for you to make, granted. But you can do it!!
Such humility and kindness you can see in Julian…and how much he loved his mother, so sweet.
it struck me.
I noticed that too , very sweet ❤
They clearly went through a bit together.
Exactly !!!
Yes always the Same boring blabla. Questions about his father
Julian tries to be real and himself. He knows he is a son of a famous father and does his best to handle the stress from that. I like him. He tries to describe himself and his work. Give him a break and complement him for how he handles himself😊
Bill can be a real dope and dick!
There were several stories we missed out on because Bill kept talking over Julian...like the run in with Madonna story.

I’ve loved Julian since the 90’s and makes me cry when I hear Hey Jude. What a sweet soul he is
Maybe listen to his music as well. You might like it.
I'm only halfway through this and already can feel Julian's uneasiness over not getting adequate time to express himself. Julian is thoughtful and will answer in depth but is interrupted repeatedly. His body language shows he isnt really comfortable here. Julian is frustrated because he has alot of worthy stuff to share 😢...no need to bring Madonna or others up...he is so intelligent and awesome...I'd love to hear lots more from him ❤
Yeah. He said he had a headache. Bill talking over him gave me one as well.
Bill Maher should know a great host listens while the guests speak!

I first heard the Beatles when I was 5 years old and am a huge John Lennon fan with enormous respect for his abilities. He was the reason I became a musician.
However, I have more respect for Julian as a man. Julian is a talented man in his own right, who appears to have weathered the storm with his head intact. Much easier said than done.
