@@BLIND_BEARHe was like a symbol that people can be survivors and still be funny and human. His death was one of the saddest moments in the game for me.
Luke’s death is the worst written death in the Telltale side of TWD franchise and nobody can convince me otherwise. Sure, there are arguably dumber deaths out there but this one is the worst from a narrative perspective. We spent the last four episodes bonding with him and then Telltale threw his friendship with Clem into a frozen lake. Luke vs Kenny would’ve been absolute PEAK, it would’ve even rivaled lots of scenes from the show and the comic. We instead got a fight scene between Jane and Kenny but that one doesn’t work because the build was just so rushed. I think I’ve said enough on why Luke’s death was a massive mistake.
The problem is that Luke had no reason to fight Kenny, and he wouldn't have put AJ in danger like Jane did. So, in that scenario, the writers would probably have made Kenny lose control over something absurd, making the choice to save Luke the obvious one. The thing with Jane is that you don’t know about AJ until it’s too late, so you can’t tell if she’s right or not.
I agree that it would be a better ending, but the problem is I can't think of any reason that Kenny and Luke would fight to the death. Luke would never do what Jane did with hiding the baby.
@@AlabeStarbrownI disagree about there being no possible way for Luke and Kenny to fight other than making Kenny come off as insane. The best way to have them fight is to have them disagree on what to do with the group. Kenny obviously wants to go to Wellington while Luke would want to go somewhere else like Howe’s or the ski lodge from episode two. This is a morally grey discussion because while Wellington could very well exist, it could just be non existent or an evil community like Carver’s. Luke not wanting to go to Wellington makes sense but there’s no guarantee that there will be supplies at Howe’s or the ski lodge. Have the fight start from either Luke or Kenny stating that they’re not gonna risk Clem and AJ’s lives over something that might not even be worth it. Feel free to disagree but this is a whole lot more satisfying than Jane starting some fight to kill Kenny, the fight we got just kinda ignores the theme of family that was with the whole Luke/Kenny rivalry.
I'm genuinely angry that Bonnie of all characters from 400 days was utilized. They didn't even bother to do something with Vince or Russell despite being disposable army units for Carver's communities
Kenny wasn't a badass, he was complicated and tragic. His behavior shouldn't be put on a pedestal as he did some shit, but he's still one of the very few characters who genuinely never actually stops seeing Clementine as a child and treasuring what that means. His past as the father of a special needs child truly informs this unyielding sensibility that he can afford even to an unrelated and increasingly competent and independent young woman. That makes him a far more compelling character than just another generic zombiepocalypse badass paternal figure who can just swoop in and take care of the protagonist whenever the plot needs. His flaws make him so much more real. And made it hurt all the more that we won't get to see those traumas and frictions resolve
Luke is my fave character outside of Clem, Lee, & Kenny. I think TWD2 was ruined because of them killing him off early instead of having him fight Kenny, it actually would’ve been a difficult choice instead of Kenny V Jane.
I wish they remade these games Until Dawn style where you can actually save most if not all characters. It would be so interesting to see how each character could be saved. Like imagine instead of just standing around doing nothing, Lee ran inside the house, to the kitchen and quickly cut his arm off with the cleaver. Boom Lee is saved. Luke drops his ak or gives it to Clem as she's smaller and he doesn't die. Boom Luke is saved. It would also be so interesting to see the characters interact with one another. This would be a massive project but it would be so worth it
Ok, but what IF! The base game (the one we got) can be used as a skeleton, and as time passes, Telltale could ADD more options, like updating it bit by bit, untill you get a game full of branches and choices and there's so many endings...
Upset we didn't get the chance to call Bonnie on her BS. "You and I both know you had a chance to save Luke" , yes Bonnie I did have the chance, untill you fucked things up by bringing more weight to the cracked ice Luke was trying to get out of.
Luke was without a doubt a big brother to Clementine!!!! Bro was tough as nails, had one of fhe best arsenals, and was just one heck of a great guy. The part of him lusting for Jane felt very forced and out of nowhere, and his tantrum after she left for a little was very pointless but hey, everyone has flaws. Also, *I gave you tge 100th* 👍. *Awesome video man!!!!*
I think they relized Luke was too level headed and wouldn't have enough motivation to fight Kenny to the death, which is why Jane was chosen last minute.
Jane took it too far to prove that Kenny was off. Luke's too put together to do that. If they wanted some dramatic ending to end the season and have survivors kill one another, they would have needed to get rid of him.
One idea I've had since seeing Luke's death from way back to have it feel more satisfying, or at least more heart retching would be that the option given to cover him or help him would make a small difference in who leaves with Arvo. Like if you help Luke everything still happens with him saving Clem from the walker under the ice, but that if you cover him instead of Bonnie surfacing it's Luke who comes up panicked saying that Bonnie got dragged down by a walker that originally grabbed him. From their once they reach Arvo's place, and the group is split the group could start making their points of not going to Wellington while Kenny is dead set on it. With eventually during the night instead of Bonnie, Mike, and Arvo leaving like normal in the Luke lives route he's leaving with them with the scene starting with Luke telling the other's he's going to go get Clem so the four of them can leave, but inevitably like normal Arvo will still end up shooting Clem, but Luke will be the one to freak out over her being shot. From there Clem passes out to either Mike telling Luke they have to leave, or Luke yelling for Kenny / Jane, depending on how close people had gotten Luke and Clem through prior choices.
Luke was setup as the new protector and defender of Clem but unlike Kenny and Lee he's less experienced, throughout the game Luke shows he's hard headed just like Kenny and often will do whatever he wants while putting everyone else in danger such as the walkie talkie he's contrasted with Kenny who also does the same in the cabin, throughout the game Luke looks out for Clem and also asks her for help just like Kenny the fact he is also the leader of his group shows his leadership skills, we all loved Luke and he was our favourite character besides Kenny but near the end he starts to lose responsbility and he indirectly leads to Sarah's death due to his neglect of his responsbility but he's such a wasted character we loved him a lot and he was killed in such a stupid and meaningless manner because the ending was revealed wasted potential sadly.
Telltale needs to make another walking dead but called “TWD butterfly effect” and have it so certain things like Lee dying doesn’t happen and we play as older Clem with Lee alive. Or the part where Clem leaves with the stranger and instead she never leaves and therefor Lee never gets bit. I think that would be great if made well
For those who didn't know: During the development of TWD season 2 in episode 4, Telltale got rushed for the deadline cause at the same time, they were also develop the finale episode of The wolf among us. Most of the developer, budget was move to develop TWAU Finale. So that's why in episode 4 it was so rush (and bad) and it's also the main reason why they changed the villain in ep 4: the Russian instead of 400 days character (which is a shame), I'm not sure about episode 5 though. But ep 4, 5 got completely rewritten cause of the deadline

If yall made a plan, he’d STAND by it and have ur back 100%. He was never a burden and would make sure he can still be a reliable individual to himself as well, so you never ever felt like you were dragging broken baggage. And all because some weirdo shipped Clementine with Luke is why he couldn't make it to Season 3, but he would've probably died a rushed death in that too.
every day i somehow hope this season could be re done and the final choice would be kenny vs luke. i have no idea what choice i would have made there but killing jane sure was an easy emotionally weightless one.
Narratively I think it would have been a better outcome if Luke survived, and it was just Luke, Kenny, Alvin Jr and Jane in the end, Jane likely wouldn't have gone overboard and kept pushing Kenny's buttons and provoking him by faking AJ's death.
Besides Lee Clementine Jesus (TWD Game ) and Kenny Definitely Luke is also in my top 5 favorite characters People like Luke for the same reasons people like Daryl in the TV series Besides combat and survival skills Personality wise people Like their charming demeanor (since he bagged both bonnie and jane ) and they always takes care of the people they love in the group when people are at their lowest And are always down for the cause And dont abandon ship when things get rough Besides clemetine doing most of the work (because obviously main character playing reasons ) Luke helps clementine most of the time With scouting the bridge Helping the group escape from carvers even tho he got caught because he was starving but desperate times happen With hunger and trailing carvers people for days And a emotional support to clem and everyone else to fall to As a 2nd option since kenny wasnt around and when kenny lost someone hed close out from people Luke deserved better man
We need a video about Vernon, about how well he was written by Telltale as a backstabber, even if you didn't lie to him or threaten him, Vernon acknowledges Lee's leadership depending on your choices at Crawford, even offering to take Clementine in. Vernon still steals the boat and ditches his group. Telltale did a good job showing how much of a backstabber Vernon was.
Great video! I’ve been wondering for a while now: when are you going to talk about characters from seasons 3 and 4? Or are you planning to talk about those seasons at all? I suppose you’re first trying to "complete" the characters who made it to season two, at least. That would explain why you haven’t made a video about Clementine or Lilly yet.
I feel like at the end instead Jane and Kenny. It should have been a decision between Luke and Kenny. In my opinion Jane didn't seem like the character I'd empathize with. The decision would have been harder if it was luke because, just like kenny, was important to clem.
I understand that a character being likeable doesn't exempt them from dying; the zombie apocalypse don't discriminate. What I DIDN'T like was the aftermath of Luke's death, obviously the most glaring issue being Bonnie's reaction. If THAT was handled better I think people wouldn't necessarily be happy about his death, but definitely more satisfied leaving it at 'he sacrificed himself for Clem'.
Telltale literally made a huge mistake that make his death completely POINTLESS. And I still can't understand why they decided Jane vs Kenny instead of Luke vs Kenny (which it would make 10x time better than Jane)
It was so werid to me when I was playing this game I said to my self it’s crazy luke was the last member of the cabin group and then he dies and it made me so sad that I went to check online if I could save him and I was wrong
Ya lukes death feels a bit stupid especially considering his death in beta which was much sadder ether being left alone with a bite or left bitten with aj. Which honestly hints more to idea luke was a bit of a second lee.
Luke vs Kenny wouldn’t have worked compared to Jane vs Kenny because way more people would’ve chosen to save Luke. Not me but fur sure 99% of people would’ve chose Luke over Kenny. Jane just should’ve had more screen time throughout the episodes to feel more significant to the season. The whole thing about Luke is that he’s that guy that’s too charismatic to be held accountable for any mistakes he makes and he makes a lot throughout the season. His death in episode 5 reflects his recklessness attitude that we see when we first meet him and when he falls through the floor at the bridge. Also of course you cut out the part when Luke tells Nick that he’s totally on board with locking Clementine in the shed to Nick after they close the doors. To be fair, I don’t blame people for fawning over Luke considering of all the adults, he’s the most chill towards Clementine other than Pete and Sarita. Of all the characters from season 2, Luke was the character that remained consistent throughout even in death. No they didn’t kill Luke off over some dumb ship some girl made in some UA-cam comments, they just wanted to give Kenny more of a fighting chance.
Luke maybe a good character but Carlos ain't either he's a terrible doctor or he trusted that clem might be with Carver because no matter a bite that deep Clem would have had a fever in the morning, and you can clearly see it's too big to be a human bite, a doctor would know this I feel. So he set up a game he knew she would loose and thus be shot in the assumption she was a Walker
like Luke and other well written characters, that Telltale ruin and kill off a good character by he should been there when Kenny went off the deep end but it Jane there who you barely even had a connect to, like Carley in the first season of walking dead, was so damn good and they kill her off so fast like image if she was alive, she would been so dangerous help Lee and them
As much as Luke's death is so contrived and bullshit. His death being the push for the group to fracture is the best choice. It's just if the final choice was between Kenny and Luke I think it would be really interesting.
The problem with Luke is that he was indeed good character but when he started to moralize and judge Kenny and defended Arvo, he really started to be annoying.
Sorry, but no. I like Luke. But he was the furthest thing from a great character. He was decent. And only because the rest of the cast was utter dogshit aside from Kenny. And even then, Luke was a badly written idiot right before and after the encounter with Arvo's group what with him scolding Clem and reminding her that she sided with him for staying for a few days for Rebecca to get rest. That being said, Luke, Javier, Kenny, Lee & Clem are literally the only well-written characters in The Walking Dead Comic Universe. Which isn't surprising considering the shit quality of the writing in the comics.

Like their charming demeanor (since he bagged both bonnie and jane ) and they always takes care of the people they love in the group when people are at their lowest
And are always down for the cause
And dont abandon ship when things get rough
Besides clemetine doing most of the work (because obviously main character playing reasons )
Luke helps clementine most of the time
With scouting the bridge
Helping the group escape from carvers even tho he got caught because he was starving but desperate times happen
With hunger and trailing carvers people for days
And a emotional support to clem and everyone else to fall to
As a 2nd option since kenny wasnt around and when kenny lost someone hed close out from people
Luke deserved better man
We need a video about Vernon, about how well he was written by Telltale as a backstabber, even if you didn't lie to him or threaten him, Vernon acknowledges Lee's leadership depending on your choices at Crawford, even offering to take Clementine in.
Haayyy Lenny!- in arthur morgan voice
I feel like at the end instead Jane and Kenny. It should have been a decision between Luke and Kenny. In my opinion Jane didn't seem like the character I'd empathize with. The decision would have been harder if it was luke because, just like kenny, was important to clem.
This is truly a death I'll never not feel bad about. It was just another example of UNFAIR this fucking universe for them is.
Luke the goat
6:12 why ain't she got a hat?
I thought it was strange bc I’ve played this a bunch and didn’t know she could lose the hat
9:45 the moment where we hate the devs. And going off script with that breath😂
When the walker was dragged him down I was thinking why didn’t he just use his machete to cut himself free?
In water you can’t slash like in the air, and cutting would take too long probably
I understand that a character being likeable doesn't exempt them from dying; the zombie apocalypse don't discriminate. What I DIDN'T like was the aftermath of Luke's death, obviously the most glaring issue being Bonnie's reaction. If THAT was handled better I think people wouldn't necessarily be happy about his death, but definitely more satisfied leaving it at 'he sacrificed himself for Clem'.
you know Luke was a great person if even Kenny respected him to a certain degree
Telltale literally made a huge mistake that make his death completely POINTLESS. And I still can't understand why they decided Jane vs Kenny instead of Luke vs Kenny (which it would make 10x time better than Jane)
if it was luke and kenny and not jane that wouldve been harder than jane, a idiot, or kenny, a pretty flawed guy but he still chill
6:13 How did you get her hair to look like that? And where's her hat? But if I had to guess, it's a mod
I think even though Luke's death was badly handled, having it be Luke vs Kenny would've been way too easy of a choice.
Pls pete next he is awesome af❤
It was so werid to me when I was playing this game I said to my self it’s crazy luke was the last member of the cabin group and then he dies and it made me so sad that I went to check online if I could save him and I was wrong
Ya lukes death feels a bit stupid especially considering his death in beta which was much sadder ether being left alone with a bite or left bitten with aj. Which honestly hints more to idea luke was a bit of a second lee.
after all these years, and i’ll never forgive them for making the final fight be between Kenny and Jane instead of Kenny and Luke
The ONLY good thing about the frozen lake scene is that you can get Bonnie killed
People misunderstand Lee taught Clem survival.
But it was Luke who taught her altruism
Arvo needs a video
he should've survived
Nothing pisses me offmore than lukes death
Do Pete next
He meant so much to Clementine and yet he was only mentioned once after season 2 smh
One of the only good characters in S2.
Luke maybe a good character but Carlos ain't either he's a terrible doctor or he trusted that clem might be with Carver because no matter a bite that deep Clem would have had a fever in the morning, and you can clearly see it's too big to be a human bite, a doctor would know this I feel. So he set up a game he knew she would loose and thus be shot in the assumption she was a Walker
great fella, but not great of a leader tho
like Luke and other well written characters, that Telltale ruin and kill off a good character by he should been there when Kenny went off the deep end but it Jane there who you barely even had a connect to, like Carley in the first season of walking dead, was so damn good and they kill her off so fast like image if she was alive, she would been so dangerous help Lee and them
where is Clem's hat in some of these scenes?😭
Omg I’ve found my people here.
As much as Luke's death is so contrived and bullshit. His death being the push for the group to fracture is the best choice. It's just if the final choice was between Kenny and Luke I think it would be really interesting.
Don't bring hatless clem back again omg 😂😂
Wow so Luke was the bay harbor butcher
can you do a video on why kate is a manipulator in season 3? I don't see people bring that up.
The problem with Luke is that he was indeed good character but when he started to moralize and judge Kenny and defended Arvo, he really started to be annoying.
It shoulda been Bonnie
Ngl I didn’t mind this season but the writing gets really awful in episode 4 and 5
Sorry, but no.
First!
Thank you for making these videos! Character analysis is so interesting and you always nail it with great insight and retrospective. Looking forward to more
