The fact that its someone who's below 100 subs saying this makes it feel real. I've often wondered if rewatching my old videos was some form of narcissism, but I think this is a much healthier mindset for it.
I just got recommended this video. Cannot help but see the irony of this video giving an audience to you, but I love this old school youtube mentality.
This flapping, damp plantoid roughly resembles a fleecy blue whale. They have large lumps that flap as a form of communication. They have the scowl of an imaginative ent and look very meek, but mumble frequently. This race looks like they have the head of a donkey crossed with that of a disruptive moth. This race's heads are sightless. They observe the world through a pair of light grey eyes on prehensile stalks on their hips. One may first notice they have void bark, star-shaped pupils. The males of their kind feature subtler ones. This species has dimpled arms, with grey-striped hands. A chunky pouch between their joints grants them the ability to swim faster. in addition, they have large fungal caps on their heads. They have petite, triangular ears, but they are made of rolling folds. This race is quadrupedal. Their legs resemble that of a lustrous fox. This race has plump waists, shaped like a flipped wedge. They are able to ingest saltwater. Their powerful kidneys filter and excrete the excess salt. This race's coverings are comprised of circular plates of bone, plated pointy boots, and shelled backpacks, making them look quite orderly. A local event is known as "The Clash of Laughter" It is a contest to see who can make the funniest jokes. Higher members of society are gifted a beeswax blowtorch, which they stow on their backs to display status. Preserved shoots are a common comfort food among them. You are now breathing manually.
Recording your own history of playing games with friends or even on your own truly is something special to look back at in the future even if no one else looks at it, nostalgia that can’t be replaced
i regret not making as many videos as i could have or deleting old ones from when i was younger. its nice to look back on where we were in life, even if its painful or cringe at the same time. its just cool to stumble upon a small unnoticed channel cause the videos can feel so personal.
Ultimately, I think it's helpful to embrace cringe, especially our own. And at the end of the day, this is the internet. Everything's always going to be a bit cringe to someone...
It's one of the reasons people kept up blogs before the advent of the modern social media - it's a nice way of committing your thoughts to written/spoken word, and somebody visiting and reading/watching them is a nice bonus
I miss uploading videos to 0-20 people. That's not to say I'm ungrateful to the people who watch me but I really do miss it. The anxiety behind pressing upload now for me is so heavy and prevents me from creating content now. I started a minecraft lp on a new account to experience what its like to upload to 0 viewers again. Granted Im getting a few views a video on that channel but it has a different feel to it. My main channel took off fast... a little too fast and I didn't have any direction for my channel and content I was making and it felt odd. The paralysis you spoke of is exactly what I felt. I couldn't live up to my own hype. Starting my new channel has opened my eyes to the true joy of being able to create and speak my mind. I can come to terms with what I had and didn't hold on to and now feel that "pressure". I used to create for my own enjoyment before I had a "viral" video, and then I created for that next big hit. Now I feel like I can create with no more of that "pressure" after realizing WHY we create. WHY I create. And that's because of enjoyment. Enjoy what you do and hold on to it. Be who you are and keep it real always. You are your own inspiration, being, and reason for what you do everyday. Your video helped me open my mind more to why I create content... to express myself. Thank you
So a friend of mine sent me this. And I'm in a weird position where I've been making videos for about a year, and I had one kind of blow up recently. I went from maybe 700 subs to almost 5000 over a few weeks. and you're right, I'm kind of paralyzed about what to do next, about how to make my next big video live up to the one that all those subscribers came from. there was a comfort in knowing that so few people were watching, in a way. There was less pressure about messing up. I'm honestly very glad that I had that year before I had something blow up though, because it's given me time to figure out what does and doesn't work, what I enjoy making/discussing. and I'm also glad it wasn't a "1 million views" blow up, because when you get your entire subscriber base off one piece, that piece becomes your identity to them. Most of them won't watch your other work, just that one. Like I'm pretty sure I'm already going to be dealing with that with whatever I wind up making next lol. Anyway, thanks for uploading this! It was a very well thought out discussion about something I don't think people discuss enough about the internet and fame.
I kind of feel like I stumbled into a smaller, more niche community of UA-cam that has really reminded me of early 2010s UA-cam and it's ... refreshing to see. And very nostalgic. Funnily enough I went to your UA-cam channel to see which video of yours it was that "blew up" from YT algorithm and it was a video I did click on when it came out, about a topic I feel deeply engrained in me. Things "back then" were much greater than they are now, simply because those things were, well, simple. We're at a point of saturated internet I believe, individuals are shoved out of the way to host the biggest platforms. Things like Twitter, games like Roblox, and even platforms like UA-cam.
@@mustard9808 I like that last point a lot. Individuals these days only matter so much as they make a platform grow. UA-camrs matter (at least to the company) only so much as they can make the platform more desirable. Same with twitter, roblox, etc. Companies only care about the engagement and "line go up", so the individual creations and passions behind them don't really matter to them much. But it does feel like we're seeing somewhat of a cultural resurgence of like you said that sort 2010s internet, where people are gravitating more towards the humanity of works rather than just the "wow look at what the shiny tech made"
@@MecklesFrog Nod nod. I hope more platforms are created for the smaller individuals as well, however difficult it may be. Congratulations on hitting the UA-cam Algorithm, but try not to let it consume you with anxiety, although that is much easier said than done. So many good points in the video we're commenting on already. If you do truly want to keep an audience of the size you've got now, you'll find your thing over time. In the grand scheme of UA-cam now, compared to then, 5,000 subscribers and possible viewers isn't as much as you'd think! It's all about what you enjoy. If you enjoy trying to hit UA-cam algorithm and keeping an audience that, to you, is large, then you might have to cater content more. But if you truly loved whatever you were doing before regardless of viewer/like/subscriber counts then continue doing that. I wish you the best of luck in creating your videos.
@@mustard9808 I agree, it's hard tho, a newer social media site called CoHost that opted to not use metrics at all was a very user friendly and creator centric platform- and it's shutting down this year due to not being profitable. But thank you! TBH I don't think I'm going to chase it, that's never really been my goal. I want to make videos that I would watch, on subjects I find interesting, and if they happen to pop off, that's a cool bonus haha
I checked your channel, having the thought 'huh, a small-ish creator who blew up. That video must've been good if it really did get so big, I should probably check it out. Besides, finding new, small-ish creators to follow is always nice.' ...I'm already subscribed. I've already seen it. Honestly, that was kinda trippy.
Hear, hear. Recording myself yapping on about various things as I play videogames (that I would play anyways on my own time) is a good way to destress and go through your own thoughts/daily activities. But really, I was personally leading a life of a social hermit where I could go for MONTHS without physically having a proper conversation with anyone, so I actually started to have issues pronouncing some words! (in my native language) I also didn't really use english in vocal form anywhere, so starting to stream speaking it fully was a great way to practice it and get back to regular speaking! And even after 4 years of barely gaining a proper following, switching mainly to record stuff after two years of streaming, I still keep doing it as a hobby! It's great. Hearing about this kind of stuff from channels that have been around for even longer definitely fortifies the idea of "being a small channel." Thanks for the reminder to not worry about it! 👏
I run this channel as an offshoot and re-edit of my old YT channel, 3rio4alk, just to maintain my memories. I think when I first started, I wanted people to watch them. But now, I'm thinking of me in 10-20-30 years time, reminiscing, on all the fun times I had with my friends. Fuck it that it's an audience of one. It's my content, for me. It's cool. It's an expression I need to make. And you're totally right about everything you say here.
I love finding small channels like this, especially ones that talk about the struggles of being a small creator. My friends and I host a podcast and make other stuff on this channel but generally I'm the one uploading and editing the videos, and this is the kinda stuff I think about all the time. Like is it even worth it if only 10 - 30 people are listening? But then I think, if I had that many people in front of me interested in what we have to say I would feel pretty honored. It's that sort of thing that keeps me going despite not having many subs. Also making videos is just plain fun :)
Fax that’s how I like to think of it too, a lot of times even when a video blows up it’s like a small percentage of people that tuned in that subscribed and it can often feel like is my message even worth hearing if only a few people paid attention and the answer really is yes.
I have a blog that nobody reads, but I still write my thoughts there because it's just nice to put the thoughts out there. It's something I do for me, and I like seeing my thoughts, what I was up to at the time, projects I started a year ago and forgot - and may pick back up! Creating for myself is nice
I get you, I usually write down my thoughts on notes and revisit them months later so I understand the feeling, is like looking back at an older version of you or your brain in a way even if it is just like a few months ago, it’s like reading a different person
Thank you for creating this small corner of the internet space, seeing someone so optimistic and making encouragement for all those who have this feeling (me coincidently) of not making any impact with what we want to make or share. Im going to see your other videos now thanks a lot
Thank you for this. This sums up well why I have never deleted any of my videos, despite the videos I uploaded over a decade ago being quite whacky. No-one likes to see those amateur kid videos but I, who keeps rewatching them from time to time to get a surge of nostalgia... Your message is important, so I'm glad you made this video for the people.
I started making Minecraft videos for my young nieces who do not live close, but find i just really love making them. I am finding ways to make myself laugh, and the editing process is really satisfying. I feel creative and inspired to play like a much younger person than i am, but also, i am building a useful skillset. Do i want more views/subscribers? Of course. But more importantly, at the moment, i am doing all the things you talk about. I've put up art streams and cat shorts, and now i'm just doing this funny thing I've been wanting to do: playing, experimenting, and having a lot of fun.
That’s super awesome, especially the part about you doing it to almost creatively connect with your nieces through your videos, I think you should share your UA-cam channel on my latest video
@@Theunspeakableworld42 Thanks, I will. I've really been enjoying your content, you have a lot of great things to say. I'm glad you're getting out there.
The end of the video hit home for me. My channel was always about gaming but I made some videos that were music-related and they are by far my most popular videos. I was afraid of posting gaming videos for a couple of years because every time I did, I lost subscribers. Eventually I said screw it, bit the bullet, and started making the gaming vids I preferred making. At first I got less views, and I lost hundreds of subscribers over a few months, but now I'm back in the green, making videos I want to make.
@@krakenmahboy hell yeah dude!!! Congratulations for moving through that rough terrain of loosing subscribers, few would be willing to make that choice
You make perfect sense and honestly, thank you for putting this out.. I thought the shame of watching my old videos was something bad and that I should just delete them all but im so glad I didnt and know, i think im gonna go watch them again with a positive outlook on cringing at them. keep being yourself man im excited to see more content from you, thank you!
I’m very glad I never ended up deleting my old videos (mostly from knowing others regretted it) I just privated them instead But I so agree with you on this, and imo, views aren’t all that important, having one fan that cares is all that matters, because I’d rather have 1 thorough and dedicated view with positive feedback than 10000 views where everyone clicked off after 1 minute, making videos out of passion is just so much better, and easier when less people are watching Another point I’d like to mention, specifically in the case of the DreamSMP is that sometimes standards or pressure can get so overwhelming that charm can be lost in favour of scripting videos that don’t need to be scripted, in order to keep the viewer hooked up. This is always imo, just a short term method that is met with a loss in actual quality and passion That kind of pressure when it gets to the point you sacrifice a genuine feeling and fun in the content is another reason I don’t have the desire to get lots of views, it’s just a downward spiral that I don’t need to get in. Even if I do get popular, I wanna try and do anything not to go down it
that's pretty much what i'm about. doing it because i needed a creative outlet. feel like i could put more effort in, want to do larger scale stuff, but i'm still learning and frankly don't have a ton of free time.
Thank you for sharing! Yeah it can be tricky doing UA-cam with a lot onto the plate, but don’t be afraid of starting with small scale stuff and using that as a foundation to create the bigger things
Even if a video doesn't get a lot of views, at least it's there for people to come across one day. If it stands out enough to be memorable, some of the viewers who are lucky enough to stumble upon such a rare find may look back at it fondly in the future.
I love obscure media and make obscure media so this hit home so well. You don't need a massive audience to love what you do, and you can learn by making something, even if it is not great.
You’re speaking facts man Espeically the part on a first video getting a LOT of views, you do need the experience and trial and error first I really liked your video, it speaks to me and to a lot of people Thanks!
Im not feeling bored, but i hear someone who has lot of experience and gives as lot of useful advise, and i like your personality. This video was enjoyable:D
Great video. Very good points. Getting used to the platform, practicing, low sub/view counts are like going to a mirror just throwing something and seeing how it goes. It's fun. Speaking to yourself, practice. Same with writers cafe the writing platform or others it's like ah just throwing a story idea out. People getting used to the recording software or recording on a phone or how to speak, serious, silly, balance, whatever the case for natural or an impression. What ideas have at low subs, throwing any ideas, putting a spin on it or making it your own or it's too close to inspirations then trying to change it or be consistent. I respect small channels I enjoy watching them. Repetition, consistent, what's new but balanced. Or those that still are and people going oh no different content or people move away and are bored of the same content, that balance. To me 180s aren't ideal but spreading out in similar ways can. I went ok Minecraft you have mods, you have let's plays which can go either way of modloaders or themes, or balance of adventure and tech or whatever other content to show to people. Comparisons of different types of mods under a category framework so people have a look at different types all in 1 video, history retrospectives of mods that are long supported and how they iterate on themselves over the year like people do games graphics or entries and look back. Which was fun but also tedious to get them working on old versions sometimes or find content differences and viewers would want the files so easy dislikes unless sharing the files. Adventure maps to make/play yeah takes time. Modpack making/reviewing is pretty easy enough, or use with a let's play. Got tutorials, more analytical ones on different topics and maybe lean into other forms of things in other mediums to be analytical about. That's sort of what I did is spread it out different ways to use Minecraft but still being about mods or about Minecraft. Whether Java mostly but the odd Bedrock. Being neuritis also an angle I find. No sub/likes, no opinions, just information and people can make up their own mind. Besides a music app experimenting type approach as well different sample packs and different sound design. Not great but different enough. Working with a small audience. Depends on the impression people make. When come back. This channel I have is 100 subs. My 2nd did more and got into other spaces it's 2k but it was few hundreds and 1k then without even touching it 2k. But it was also what I was doing to seek out content ideas, out a spin in the space I was. I try different creative ideas and don't use analytics I just cover projects people don't see. I make a mix of different things. I still am in the space even without videos but am by wikis and forums. Expanding on things to be seen but make an impact, see what others do if someone else's work showcasing. Bridging gaps. Just working on whatever think is interesting then selling one's self too much and overly confident but just good enough or early on talking to yourself, a mic, whatever video setup equipment. The explosion of what people search for, get recommended, what trends, or not trends and just making the most of it. It can be a bit much when the early on can be sometimes more fun, lower expectations. What learnt over time. Not souch nostalgia either just making it a fun thing to do on the side. Like sharing art, a tv show/book. Instead of locals just anyone to see not even for validation either just to show it and see what happens. Like being on a forum just talking anything.
there are many videos I've deleted that I regret doing so now, for almost 7 years my only viewer was myself and some friends I'd share my videos to, and some of them after a year or two of making them I delted cuz I thought they were bad. Now whenever I feel that way about a video I unlist or private it, becaus now I know that one day in the future I will look back at it and even if I gain nothing from the rewatch, it's still fun and interesting seeing who you were in the past and how much you've changed when I was young all I ever wanted was to be the most famous youtuber ever. Now I feel like I'm actually scared of fame, I love having such a small and close community of friends who I share my art and music with, and sure a part of me still wants the fame but not nearly as much, I just make stuff for the fun of making it now and I feel so much happier than I was when I was trying to chase trends and become the next Jacksepticeye or something
Thanks for the inspiration. I feel like my small channel is just starting to take off. Artofmkd shared that you are a great UA-camr while we were playing 😄
Strange how I've been having thoughts of trying to make a video after quite a while, and all of a sudden, this pops up in my recommended. I believe this is a great video for anyone uploading videos (or at least planning to) that have little to no audience to keep in mind.
I upload videos for the sake of memories, talking as if someone is watching. But I upload it just to remember how I reacted to the game for the first time. And I'm happy when someone comes and enjoys watching it.
This video was recommended to me while I was stressing about it, i've been making youtube videos for years with barely any views, likes or comments despite my subscriber count. But at least im proud of everything ive made along the years, the memories i've made, the way i expressed myself in those videos; its nice to look back and see how different you were back then. It is also good making content you want because one day it might go unexpectedly popular, and people similar to you will find you easier, which would be a good way to make friends
I’m glad the video found you and gave you some relief, I also think of it that way, I like the idea of creating friendships along the way of making videos, it’s like the best way of finding likeminded people.
Love the video. I always make videos when no one is watching. I don’t care if it’s an hour or more. I don’t care about being consistent or not. I have a life too. I barely do live videos & shorts. I only get more views on shorts when bad stuff happens or I go explore. I look back at my old stuff, weird af but I did it. Some videos I deleted cuz I don’t like it, some too personal as it blows up for a few hate comments, some other videos deleted off my channel but downloaded & reuploaded to other channels to clean up. I have 3 channels that I use. 1 is Art documentation (boring AF). 2 is Art Vlog, video editing effects & expression with some art updates. 3 is my archives for reuploads & old dumb funny shit. My passionate hobby is Art that is like a voice & a song to fully express myself (since I was 4). I learned to edit videos since my best friend in high school do it. He loves movies & we go every Friday. Current friendship for 12 years. Been doing my content weird thing since 2013.
It just makes me feel nostalgic for when I used to make simple videos, but that was in november of last year, which feels like yesterday. It's crazy how one day I'll be looking back on the videos I make now.
I personally really like the idea that random people on the other side of the world can stumble across something you made years later, even if no one watched it when it came out!
@@MikaelaExtra like theres this one time i was at a wedding and i was talkin to my friends and one of my friends was annoying everyone else so i called him a pissed pest. now i didnt even think bout it it just spilled out and i got a girl to laugh so boom
@@MikaelaExtra and another time i had this idea for this nostalgic edit where it would show like modern villains and then it would show captain nemo and prof. moriarty. now cuz of my time on the internet i thought the reactions would be negative but i was like screw it and uploaded it and it was fairly positive
This is extraordinarily relatable. I run a music channel and I still kinda want it to blow up and monetarily support me. I made a video that got 3 thousand views and insanely positive reception. I was genuinely scared on how to take it. heck I was partially relieved when the algorithm stopped recommending it. But I also was hooked. I wanted that explosion again. I made another video with a somewhat clickbaity title and it got 2.2k views but very salty reactions because of the title. I wanted the views, but I also felt disgusted at that video because I didn't want to deceive people. I didn't mean for deception to happen... but it did. May we all fail and not shrivel but understand how to improve. Thanks for this video man :)
Thank you for sharing man, I’ve been there too, I also want views and traction on my pages and have made those clickbaity mistakes or jumping onto a trend that doesn’t entirely fit with the brand.
I agree with this video, and for me. It's just fun to make videos, I also find it relaxing to edit literal hours of gaming footage and watch it slowly be chiseled into something digestible. It is really satisfying and I have my friends to encourage me if the satisfaction of creation in of itself isn't enough.
I totally get you on that, it’s like seeing a garden full of tall grass and cutting it down into a field you can walk on and visually satisfying and you can almost shape it into the shape you want, sharpening the edges
True. My main account has much more views than I wanted it to. My original purpose of uploading videos there was to tell my FAMILY what I knew about a certain topic while not yapping to them when they have better things to do.
I love making the videos I make, because they are memories of what I had gone through, all while express my imagination in a more physical form, something that can be perceived, seen, and felt. Rather than fabricated ideas.
the older me no longer sees the younger me as cringe, but just as this cool kid i used to be. and to feel the sense of nostalgia is a bonus. back to the simpler times ya know?
Ahh, finally... I just need to hear it from someone... after looking all of my successful video, I now see why it's successful. it's how I'm having fun with friends.. when solo, I'm uninteresting but with someone- I'm quite expressive
On one hand hitting 1,000 subs from putting lyrics to a video game song should have felt good, but knowing that was a one time thing and the speedpaints/animations I want to do get no attention is pretty disheartening. I've been experimenting on YT for a really long time, but animation has become something I'm passionate about. I know that if I got too much attention to quickly it would be overwhelming, even though I've been animating for a couple years now. "It's not about the numbers, just do things for yourself" is easier said then done, but if I can focus on making art I'm proud of, I can get validation from myself and not from numbers. Being able to look at a past project that still holds up is a lot more rewarding then something I didn't care about getting a bigger number on it.
and now, allow me to do that very thing! i run two blog-journal things. i call them that because really they're just excuses for me to ramble about whatever. one is a daily comment series on yt where i leave a paragraph of text under a guy's daily video series. i try to never go below 1000 characters, which gets really hard whenever nothing of interest happens! the other one is off in an anarchy text site. essentially you can claim worlds there, so i claimed my own and i'm running a thingo there. it's currently private due to griefer attacks on worlds adjacent to mine. there, i talk for much longer, but much more rarely. i've been doing that one for 7 months now (entries have thinned out for a bit due to circumstances outside of my control but i'm reeling it back in). i get absolutely no readers on either one of those projects. maybe one or two on the former, but zero on the latter. i just do these things out of a joy for sharing things. i love sharing stuff that's within my area of interest. it's also a way to stick it to cringe culture by being unapologetically true to myself - i am cringe, hiding that would harm me, so i wear it on the sleeve. if i wanted to get big, i wouldn't be able to be myself. i'd have to sanitize what i write or say to make sure i don't look like a dork. i'd have to do several revisions of what i say or heavily editorialize it to make it 100% coherent and fluid. knowing other people have set standards for my work would be a limiting factor to my expression. that's what i do - i put my feelings into words and set them free. i don't care if i get very few people to read them, i just want to make sure that the people who do, get something out of it. weed out anybody else. writing things to myself isn't enough for me though. as i just said, i want people to get something out of it. i want my work to be publicly accessible so that others can see it. if i were writing in, say, a notepad document, i'd know that i'm the only person who'll ever see it. and that would also change the way i write. because why would i want to tell somebody something they already know? seems like a waste of time. that's why i want my stuff to be out there. it forces me to talk differently, and teaching stuff to somebody who is eager to learn -that'd be people who get something out of my work- is something i find to be infinitely valuable. i'd boil it down to this - i'd rather have fam than fans. i'd rather have 10 people who like what i do -whatever that may be-, and are willing to have a discussion with me over it, than have 10000 people have a look, nod, and scroll away. and right now, it seems like it's just me. let's have a positive outlook on things - that's 100% fam!
i agree with this video completely. this isnt my first channel. i accidently deleted the first, but i also have perma deleted some videos on here and i really regret deleting them. they're time capsules i can no longer ever open. now they''re just a blurry memory
You've expressed an idea Kurt Vonnegut shared responding to a letter from an elementary school class. Look up "Kurt Vonnegut - Make Your Soul Grow letter". I feel that you'll appreciate it given what you shared in this video.
Even though I have more subscribers than you the video resonates well because I've lost almost 80% of my audience since the SCP Music niche started dying out... As you perfectly stated now I got a chance to shift around the realm of my content and try something different, stay motivated and look back on the things that I made in the past 👁
My most recent video did pretty well, reaching at about 1k views. But now I feel scared to upload anything next cuz it might not live up to people's, as well as my own expectation. while it is nice to have new people coming to your channel, you can have a greater room for mistakes while still enjoying what you're doing when basically nobody cares about what you did wrong or find your contents "cringe".
I can totally relate with that, best thing to do is just say fuck it and make the video anyway or even make a video about that feeling of perfectionism paralysis after getting a big hit, a lot of people can relate to this feeling
Hell yeah!!! DO IT, especially a game like minecraft, there’s just a lot to do content wise and judging by your pfp you’re quite beautiful, the algorithm will bless you for sure
I agree but I find it hard to do UA-cam and not getting much success it's so hard i have over 1k and videos and barly getting news i try so hard no matter how hard i try it just didn't work what do you think is it really worth it?
Well I think the solution to that could be to take an honest unbiased look at your content and imagine if you were some random person who came across your channel. Would you subscribe and tune in for the next video? What value would you get out of those videos? Why would you stay? What type of person are they? Idk what the answer is for your channel personally, just throwing out some ideas.
This is why I practically never delete my videos nowadays, but I really hate when people only watch one kind of videos (specifically, animated elevator videos) on my channel when I want to be a 'variety' channel where there's a little something for everyone, except my other videos get next-to-nothing compared to what they want to watch. (Also, why are you playing in Bedrock Edition? Java is superior in every way!)
5:10 - 5:45 This exact thing happened to me. I got a bunch of views on a video and didn't know what to do next so I just froze and haven't uploaded since. I just was scared that my next upload wasn't going to do the same, and I had no idea how to level up my content.
I feel you dude, I went through the same, one thing I’d recommend is just post anyway and go through that phase of maybe loosing viewers or subscribers just to give yourself a stronger understanding of what works and doesn’t through your content, I mean there’s no method to grow a UA-cam channel, many videos can sell you the idea that there’s a special trick but it’s really just going through the trial and error, being consistent and slightly improving each time interms of the way you edit or even how much better your personality shows through the videos etc
To whom it may concern dont worry about what people think of your content if you get big or blow up the people watch your content for you because they like what you provide and your niche. I make religious content I recieve hate comments but it doesnt matter I enjoy it just like you enjoy making your content whether its religious, art or gaming and eventually you can make money doing what you love.
I wish I saw this video a month ago I recently snapped at the fact that most of my videos were not getting much views, and I pretty much went on a purge of my content, sparing only a few videos All the effort I put into my content over the past four years gone because I was not thinking straight, I did not appreciate the fact that I enjoyed making the videos and being able to look back on them every now and then, instead I only expected views from them I plan on creating new content again, but now I want to aim towards making content solely for the enjoyment of it, and if a video performs unexpectedly well, then that is a bonus Thank you for listening to my Ted talk I guess
It’s okay man, regret it a lil good to have in life cause of what regret teaches us to be alert of what not to take for granted, so don’t beat yourself up, there’s still a lot of videos you could make that you don’t have to delete
The best argument about uploading videos is "kinda" unlimited storage. Just upload things you did and you like, time comes and people that like the same stuff will come and see it not. It does not guarantee a big youtube success but it guarantees that you find people with the same hobby, views and all that. Then, if you feel like it, you can upgrade your content and it just becomes a circle
The inspiration from older videos thing is so real. I watched some of my older videos and realized that if the past me made these videos. What's stopping current me?
5:10 yea this is a bit scary when you think about how experimentation slows down if you get momentum but what if you didn't test enough to find the content you want to make
Exactly, sometimes having a small channel and making a lot of mistakes is great because it saves you the whole fuss if you make those mistakes later on
wait he’s onto something shit I have no idea why this just randomly appeared on my homepage but it’s making me want to trim up and upload some of the hundreds of clips I have of either stuff I did in games or stupid interactions with my friends I probably still won’t for a while because I don’t know how video editing works and am not super eager to try and navigate editing software anyway either way I’m glad somebody made a video like this ironically I would like a lot more people to see it, but I think if the numbers on it get too big then it might feel less raw/real to some side note I like when people use titles like this that just actually say what the video is about like if it was any other kind of title I’d 100% have ignored it nice to see there are lots of other people responding to the video to prove that just being clear and honest on this platform works too
Yeah I was low-key worried about he same thing, if this video gets a lot of attention and views and goes viral would it take away from the message, I think for those who aren’t really engaged it probably will. And yeah I try to get straight into the topic when I make videos it annoys me when I watch a video and they only start talking about the topic later in the video.
The fact that its someone who's below 100 subs saying this makes it feel real. I've often wondered if rewatching my old videos was some form of narcissism, but I think this is a much healthier mindset for it.

Exactly!!
as someone who only has their brother as their only viewer, this makes me happy.

It's great.
Hearing about this kind of stuff from channels that have been around for even longer definitely fortifies the idea of "being a small channel."
Thanks for the reminder to not worry about it! 👏
It’s my pleasure, thank you for sharing man 👊🏽😎
I run this channel as an offshoot and re-edit of my old YT channel, 3rio4alk, just to maintain my memories.
There are no coincidences - master oogway 🌚. I’m glad this resonated with you
Thank you for this. This sums up well why I have never deleted any of my videos, despite the videos I uploaded over a decade ago being quite whacky. No-one likes to see those amateur kid videos but I, who keeps rewatching them from time to time to get a surge of nostalgia...

My pleasure, welcome aboard fam😁, hope to see ya again 👊🏽😎
I’m very glad I never ended up deleting my old videos (mostly from knowing others regretted it) I just privated them instead
But I so agree with you on this, and imo, views aren’t all that important, having one fan that cares is all that matters, because I’d rather have 1 thorough and dedicated view with positive feedback than 10000 views where everyone clicked off after 1 minute, making videos out of passion is just so much better, and easier when less people are watching
Another point I’d like to mention, specifically in the case of the DreamSMP is that sometimes standards or pressure can get so overwhelming that charm can be lost in favour of scripting videos that don’t need to be scripted, in order to keep the viewer hooked up. This is always imo, just a short term method that is met with a loss in actual quality and passion
That kind of pressure when it gets to the point you sacrifice a genuine feeling and fun in the content is another reason I don’t have the desire to get lots of views, it’s just a downward spiral that I don’t need to get in.

I’ve been drafting a video for a few months now and this is pretty helpful. It’s nice to feel like I’m not the only one who feels like this.
I’m guilty of doing the same thing, drafting a video for months. Glad this video was helpful in some way
Even if a video doesn't get a lot of views, at least it's there for people to come across one day. If it stands out enough to be memorable, some of the viewers who are lucky enough to stumble upon such a rare find may look back at it fondly in the future.

THIS is why i never wana delete the videos in my phone, it lets me look back on what i was doing.

Hmmm, well it’s a productive way of looking at things to move forward so who ever might call this cope isn’t hearing me out properly 😂
I get you, thank you for sharing 😁.
there are many videos I've deleted that I regret doing so now, for almost 7 years my only viewer was myself and some friends I'd share my videos to, and some of them after a year or two of making them I delted cuz I thought they were bad. Now whenever I feel that way about a video I unlist or private it, becaus now I know that one day in the future I will look back at it and even if I gain nothing from the rewatch, it's still fun and interesting seeing who you were in the past and how much you've changed
when I was young all I ever wanted was to be the most famous youtuber ever.

That’s exactly how I feel, time flies extremely quick and looking back at videos I made 5 years ago, feels like it was last year honestly time flies

That’s a pretty creative idea!!
I love making the videos I make, because they are memories of what I had gone through, all while express my imagination in a more physical form, something that can be perceived, seen, and felt. Rather than fabricated ideas.
Well said! In 10 years from now looking back at those will be like looking back at a last life
i never get recommendationed videos like this anymore.. this is a great analogy.
Well I’m glad my video found ya 😀
the older me no longer sees the younger me as cringe, but just as this cool kid i used to be. and to feel the sense of nostalgia is a bonus. back to the simpler times ya know?
I get you bro
Good shit, man. Youre a good dude.
Thanks fam👊🏽😎
This speaks to me deep. Thank you
It’s my pleasure
Ahh, finally...
I just need to hear it from someone... after looking all of my successful video, I now see why it's successful.
it's how I'm having fun with friends.. when solo, I'm uninteresting but with someone-
I'm quite expressive
I created this second channel because I was hoping to expand into English audience
I’m glad I could help 😁
Dont know, UA-cam is just about ads and algorythms, i rather stay on Instagram for content
Sweet 😎
this minecraft gameplay with sound and this commentary is gold
On one hand hitting 1,000 subs from putting lyrics to a video game song should have felt good, but knowing that was a one time thing and the speedpaints/animations I want to do get no attention is pretty disheartening. I've been experimenting on YT for a really long time, but animation has become something I'm passionate about. I know that if I got too much attention to quickly it would be overwhelming, even though I've been animating for a couple years now.
"It's not about the numbers, just do things for yourself" is easier said then done, but if I can focus on making art I'm proud of, I can get validation from myself and not from numbers. Being able to look at a past project that still holds up is a lot more rewarding then something I didn't care about getting a bigger number on it.
thanks this gives me hope my friend thank you!
My pleasure, all the best out there 😁👊🏽
and now, allow me to do that very thing!
i run two blog-journal things. i call them that because really they're just excuses for me to ramble about whatever. one is a daily comment series on yt where i leave a paragraph of text under a guy's daily video series. i try to never go below 1000 characters, which gets really hard whenever nothing of interest happens! the other one is off in an anarchy text site. essentially you can claim worlds there, so i claimed my own and i'm running a thingo there. it's currently private due to griefer attacks on worlds adjacent to mine. there, i talk for much longer, but much more rarely. i've been doing that one for 7 months now (entries have thinned out for a bit due to circumstances outside of my control but i'm reeling it back in).
i get absolutely no readers on either one of those projects. maybe one or two on the former, but zero on the latter. i just do these things out of a joy for sharing things. i love sharing stuff that's within my area of interest. it's also a way to stick it to cringe culture by being unapologetically true to myself - i am cringe, hiding that would harm me, so i wear it on the sleeve. if i wanted to get big, i wouldn't be able to be myself. i'd have to sanitize what i write or say to make sure i don't look like a dork. i'd have to do several revisions of what i say or heavily editorialize it to make it 100% coherent and fluid. knowing other people have set standards for my work would be a limiting factor to my expression. that's what i do - i put my feelings into words and set them free. i don't care if i get very few people to read them, i just want to make sure that the people who do, get something out of it. weed out anybody else.
writing things to myself isn't enough for me though. as i just said, i want people to get something out of it. i want my work to be publicly accessible so that others can see it. if i were writing in, say, a notepad document, i'd know that i'm the only person who'll ever see it. and that would also change the way i write. because why would i want to tell somebody something they already know? seems like a waste of time. that's why i want my stuff to be out there. it forces me to talk differently, and teaching stuff to somebody who is eager to learn -that'd be people who get something out of my work- is something i find to be infinitely valuable.
i'd boil it down to this - i'd rather have fam than fans. i'd rather have 10 people who like what i do -whatever that may be-, and are willing to have a discussion with me over it, than have 10000 people have a look, nod, and scroll away. and right now, it seems like it's just me. let's have a positive outlook on things - that's 100% fam!
It's always the ones with Minecraft gameplay
Lmao
this is an absolutely delightful video and im very happy that i saw this
Let’s goo 😁
Glad you got value out of it
Needed to hear this. Thank you
😎👊🏽
Thanks man I think I needed to hear this fr
Glad I could help😎👊🏽
i agree with this video completely. this isnt my first channel. i accidently deleted the first, but i also have perma deleted some videos on here and i really regret deleting them. they're time capsules i can no longer ever open. now they''re just a blurry memory
I feel you on that one 😭
You've expressed an idea Kurt Vonnegut shared responding to a letter from an elementary school class.
Look up "Kurt Vonnegut - Make Your Soul Grow letter". I feel that you'll appreciate it given what you shared in this video.
Interesting! Imma check it out 🤔
this is a great mindset.
Hope it helps!!
Casually flexing the Minecraft world while having some deep thoughts on content creation
Heheheheh🌚
Even though I have more subscribers than you the video resonates well because I've lost almost 80% of my audience since the SCP Music niche started dying out...
As you perfectly stated now I got a chance to shift around the realm of my content and try something different, stay motivated and look back on the things that I made in the past 👁
Fax, like 10 years from today it’ll be like looking back at a past life even if you find something else to do with your time
I relate to this greatly ❤❤
I’m glad it reached ya man 😎👊🏽
My most recent video did pretty well, reaching at about 1k views.
I feel this, I wish I was playing more and made even more videos. I can still do it though.
Hell yeah!!! DO IT, especially a game like minecraft, there’s just a lot to do content wise and judging by your pfp you’re quite beautiful, the algorithm will bless you for sure
"If I'm not popular why would I make videos?"
Because how else are you supposed to get popular?
I’m confused where you’re getting at but …yeah!!😀
keep going man, keep going.
💪🏽😁, thank you
I agree but I find it hard to do UA-cam and not getting much success it's so hard i have over 1k and videos and barly getting news i try so hard no matter how hard i try it just didn't work what do you think is it really worth it?
I wished I played on Java, it for sure is superior, it’s because I don’t have a device that supports Java yet.
"It’s good making videos even if you have no audience"
So my entire channel then, thanks.
😎👊🏽
5:10 - 5:45 This exact thing happened to me. I got a bunch of views on a video and didn't know what to do next so I just froze and haven't uploaded since. I just was scared that my next upload wasn't going to do the same, and I had no idea how to level up my content.
I feel you dude, I went through the same, one thing I’d recommend is just post anyway and go through that phase of maybe loosing viewers or subscribers just to give yourself a stronger understanding of what works and doesn’t through your content, I mean there’s no method to grow a UA-cam channel, many videos can sell you the idea that there’s a special trick but it’s really just going through the trial and error, being consistent and slightly improving each time interms of the way you edit or even how much better your personality shows through the videos etc
such great advice
Yt recommended this like 5 times fine ill watch it and I didn't regret it
lol fr? That’s good news for me then 😂, I made a pt2 of this video if you’re interested
@@Theunspeakableworld42 I'll watch part 2 and subscribe
To whom it may concern dont worry about what people think of your content if you get big or blow up the people watch your content for you because they like what you provide and your niche. I make religious content I recieve hate comments but it doesnt matter I enjoy it just like you enjoy making your content whether its religious, art or gaming and eventually you can make money doing what you love.
Fax
I wish I saw this video a month ago
I recently snapped at the fact that most of my videos were not getting much views, and I pretty much went on a purge of my content, sparing only a few videos
All the effort I put into my content over the past four years gone because I was not thinking straight, I did not appreciate the fact that I enjoyed making the videos and being able to look back on them every now and then, instead I only expected views from them
I plan on creating new content again, but now I want to aim towards making content solely for the enjoyment of it, and if a video performs unexpectedly well, then that is a bonus
Thank you for listening to my Ted talk I guess
It’s okay man, regret it a lil good to have in life cause of what regret teaches us to be alert of what not to take for granted, so don’t beat yourself up, there’s still a lot of videos you could make that you don’t have to delete
My channel is the perfect example. made videos since 2012 to current (2024). A lot has changed over the years.
That’s awesome thank you for sharing, I get you on that, I’d say the same, and it’s like time flies aswell
That’s a pretty creative way to make connections
The inspiration from older videos thing is so real. I watched some of my older videos and realized that if the past me made these videos. What's stopping current me?
DO ITTT!!!!!!
as a small youtuber i approve of this video
😎👊🏽
5:10 yea this is a bit scary when you think about how experimentation slows down if you get momentum but what if you didn't test enough to find the content you want to make
Exactly, sometimes having a small channel and making a lot of mistakes is great because it saves you the whole fuss if you make those mistakes later on
You inspired me to make essay videos about white replacement theory (in Minecraft)
Hell yeah!!! DO IT!
wait he’s onto something
shit I have no idea why this just randomly appeared on my homepage but it’s making me want to trim up and upload some of the hundreds of clips I have of either stuff I did in games or stupid interactions with my friends
I probably still won’t for a while because I don’t know how video editing works and am not super eager to try and navigate editing software anyway
either way I’m glad somebody made a video like this
ironically I would like a lot more people to see it, but I think if the numbers on it get too big then it might feel less raw/real to some
side note I like when people use titles like this that just actually say what the video is about
like if it was any other kind of title I’d 100% have ignored it
nice to see there are lots of other people responding to the video to prove that just being clear and honest on this platform works too
Yeah I was low-key worried about he same thing, if this video gets a lot of attention and views and goes viral would it take away from the message, I think for those who aren’t really engaged it probably will. And yeah I try to get straight into the topic when I make videos it annoys me when I watch a video and they only start talking about the topic later in the video.
Holy crap this video exploded in views since I last watched it
Fr fr, I’m also shocked, it’s still growing as we speak haha
