I recently started BJJ with no wrestling background. I've surfed through a lot of different articles and videos, and this series is hands down the best resource I've found to learn takedown fundamentals. It's not even close. Thank you so much for making these!
If only I was 15 years old and lucky enough to have stumbled upon this channel, with the ambition to be the best and understand intricate technique this is a really good place to be. Coach Adam is truly in a league of his own, top class.
I understand the frustration. That's actually why I created this channel, so everyone can have access to high level wrestling regardless of where they are in the world. I appreciate your support!
I love your channel and the great info and wrestling tips you provide. I don't go a day now without watching a video or two from your UA-cam channel. Cheers Mate!
Great, detailed instruction. As a BJJ guy I was laughing at all the wrong things you pointed out that are commonly taught in BJJ regarding the single leg take down.
I've been struggling with teaching my daughter some effective takedowns because of her size, she's 7 and one of the smaller kids in her bjj class. Even when she executes good technique the weight and strength difference was too much most times. These details really helped me teach her how to land the single leg on bigger kids.
I tried this today and watching you're video back I missed one crucial detail. I wasn't pressuring down when trying to get my opponent to the mat but turning instead. I found my shoulder kept slipping off his hip. Ill have to make the adjustment for next time. Awsome content mate, so much knowledge on this channel. Much love from Australia.
This was awesome to watch, I love the intricate detail of instructing, even citing commoners mistakes AND what they look like! Awesome video, will watch the rest of the playlist later
Excuse my French😊..but this is overall best f**king single leg instruction I have ever seen...feeling more confident already the next time I spar with the big boys!!!!!!!
@holmes3288 Works like a charm!!..its my go to takedown now..throw a little hand at their face to make em blink..go straight in & they don't know what hit them....
Madness! No messing around just in like bam and take em down, like he said you don't want a bigger heavier opponent arms to get a hold of you especially in self defense street fight scenario. Then Bam MMA ground and pound, knee down onto there abdomin and go Rampage Jackson ground and pound style. I'm only beginer BJJ and wrestling so this is extremely helpful for me, though I'm very comfortable with striking this technique could definitely save your life!🥋👊 Thanks you I will use for self defense only and definitely in the cage when I have my first cage fight when Ready.
Yes! The single leg take down is the only one I really learned so far and I love it 😍 it's kinda different from this one (it's from sanda, i don't know if it comes from wrestling tho) but still, it worked wonders against a bigger opponent in my bjj class 🥰 Great channel!! I'm gonna start drilling this one tomorrow 😤😤
6:46 another reason is the guy you are taking down can defend with a whizzer when you are not tight and offer the window for his overhook on you right arm here, then he bends his knee that you you are attacking and stretches you and picks up your post with that leg and drives your head and shoulder to the mat.
Its been going well. Have used this frequently in class for the last few months. Takes a while to get the head positioning and overall stance right, but even applying the basic technique is quite successful.@@holmes3288
Nice details mate. I started wrestling class to improve my Jiu Jitsu and you added some nice points such as the shoulder position and extension rather than squeezing the grip..my wrestling coach forgot to mention these and I run into the same problems you mentioned would happen. Thanks a lot, I’m subbed 👌🙌
Glad to hear it brother. Wrestling is slowly being adopted into BJJ schools, but usually at a mid to low level. My goal is to fill in the gaps. Let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like to learn 🙏🏻
Move in rapidly with guard up at normal level than drop into a deep stance with your spine vertical, hook the back of the knee of the opponent with the inside of the elbow deep against your body , explosively turn your waist towards that arm, and elbow strike the opposite hip of your opponent with your other arm, levering the opponents body across the hips, as your opponent falls transferring to double arm control of the single leg as you step back to control leg for joint break or drag control/disengage or to move forward to full mount etc
I don't actively train anymore but as a striker, this is probably one of the more solid grappling lessons I've ever seen. Didn't care for Brazilian Jujitsu because everything was about "rank," "rules" and authority. Question: are you Greco-Roman or Catch Wrestling?
Appreciate it Jerald thank you. Yes actually I'm a Greco-Roman state champion in the state of Michigan, currently studying Catch Wrestling. Interested in throws?
One leg is easier to pick up than two obviously as its less weight to pick up and then you of course use it as a lever to destabilise your opponents balance.

Really appreciate that brother, truly. And about your current situation just remember everything is temporary. You could find yourself in a city that has great wrestling very soon. If life doesn't do it for you remember you can always relocate deliberately. Nothing is better than chasing a dream. Best of luck out there and welcome to the channel.
If you are going to get that close in a fight, I don’t care how big they are, osoto gari is a better way to go. I have no formal training. I grew up in a shitty neighborhood. my best friend was shot in the back and killed in front of my house in 1989,he was 14 years old. It’s an easy way out of a fight, worked for me every time, regardless of opponents size. The first time I used it was by accident, I was 12 and the dude was at least twice my age. It became my go to move because sometimes I couldn’t punch, my hands would be broken from fighting the day before or earlier in the week. When done correcty your opponent lands on the back of their neck, on pavement ,it can knock them out. I actually just found out the moves name, I didn’t know it had a name, it’s osoto gari. There are several videos on you tube that show how it’s done, one of the best videos is in slow motion and is less than a minute and a half long.
Hey Adam, what if I'm a bigger guy walking around at 250- I usually have the size advantage and when I don't, the disparity isn't much. Would you still recommend singles or should my go-to be doubles?
With size like that, you’ve got the liberty to choose. Developing a good ‘blast double’ even would be devastating with your proportions: ua-cam.com/video/19hGrBhlFJ0/v-deo.htmlsi=ASO34gPnoU4FzRqZ
This is excellent. I’m trying to learn some basic wrestling but can’t stand the feeling of having my weight outside my posts lol. Too much other training maybe but it makes me feel so vulnerable to use the opponent as a post ( overly simplistic yes but too many nuances to type ). I may be way off as I’m just really digging into this and have to learn between right and wrong. Thanks for being so detail oriented. I’m off to find some standing underhook clarification because what I was shown seems…unwise.

Yes because the knee is the lever and only needs five lbs of pressure to bend. And if you're doing it correctly you're fast enough for him not to counter.
@@ehall3915 you mean like you just did with a sorry ass comment like that. You sound like the type of person who's never been in a fight in their life. Probably been bullied too🤣🤣🤣. Go try and be a keyboard warrior somewhere else cus you sound weak here 😂😂😂
Absolutely works in fights. Putting them on one leg forces them to use their arms to balance then finish quickly so there’s little, if any, time for them to strike. You need to practice with high repetitions for a few weeks/months before expecting to use this move reliably. Good question.
Don’t ever use this in a street fight. You’re gonna get hurt. This is good for sport/MMA competition but that’s it. The minute you go beneath me and expose your head I would gouge one of your eyes out or hammer fist the back of your head and you’ll be enjoying your crayons in coloring books for the rest of your life. Stay on your feet and look for an avenue of escape. Street fights are about survival.
I have a big problem with the single leg against much taller and slimmer oponents. My torso is very short so when I grab the back of their knee my head ia hovering in space. I cannot use it to push back their body and drop them eo I end up burning out my arms and letting go
