Dude that was terrible, he did so little and spoke soooo much 😂 too much hair fixing as well
Why does it look like BJJ class got canceled and he asked the new guy if he wants to drill in the park across the street 😂😂
Well... that's basically what happened lol but we get the content made no matter what!
@@WrestlingUniversity ooooo
@@WrestlingUniversity wow that’s crazy how they guessed that
As a BJJ guy, I really appreciate the small details. I've seen a lot of single leg instructional videos and this is one of the best. Thank you! Just subscribed.
This is the most effective single leg takedown hands down. The pressure in the hips is just beautiful, I took everyone down at my gym with this and yes, they teach that same lame ass single with the legs between your legs, that won't do anything. I put some resistance and my training partners couldn't finish the takedown, as soon as it was my turn I put my shoulder into their hips and I didn't even had to turn, they wanted to go down after that pressure. Thank you Sir for this amazing technique.
Beautiful brother. Thank you for the feedback!
Alot of BJJ guys squeeze their legs. I think it is because they didn't initially have the penetration necessary to get the right grip.
Most effective takedown against a bigger opponent- shows it on a smaller guy.
He should wrestle bears like khabib
DAMMNIT!!! SOMEONE ALWAYS BEAT ME TO IT!!!!!
Is given high level technique for free-
instead of practicing, finds reason to criticize.
If you dish it, be prepared to take it ;)

About right, you can't handle UA-cam comments at all. Go catch a knee to the face.

I knew I was doing this takedown wrong, I just didn’t know why. Thanks for covering the small details. I need to start drilling this.
Thanks for showing! Learned some new things and corrected my technique. Thank you!
I really love your perspective about takedowns for bjj!
I am a blue-belt 3 stripes but sill need to work on my take downs more and more because it is the most important thing
and fundamentals. also it is important for self-defense because i am also more old-school style preferred.
In fact, your channel suddenly popped up on my youtube and been watching your takedown series.
keep making more good and simple takedown technique videos for those who suck at it loool
also I've subscribed your channel :) From South Korea.
jeez so well explained, I'm happy you mentioned the "he can push his weight on you" thing
i wish you did this with a bigger opponent.
😂😂😂🤣🤣
Checkout my other videos!
Well I did it with a bigger opponent and it worked just fine. Maybe you should try it
Thank you man, i was searchin for good videos for learning and practice for a long time. Now that i found your channel i'm happy.
“We’re in tennis shoes, everyone should have a couple takedowns in their backpocket”
Love it 😂
Welcome to the team destro 🙃
Great job buddy! Super helpful 👍!
Thanks for the great explanation!
From my experience in judo and wrestling, singles against a larger opponent (also practising some grappling), they would just oblige their weight down. My successful counters for this always have been Fireman carry. If I want to bring them, usually faking into lateral drops are most of the time successful.
EDIT: Also most belly to back throws really work like a charm. Better positioning is always the key I guess
I think you’re amongst the best teachers on UA-cam, in any discipline and subject matter. Thanks for the awesome vids
You explain this technique where people can really understand it thank you for making this video and going through it step by step into one big motion
Awesome details. Thank you. Subbed.
Welcome to the channel brother
Thank you very much.Great tutorial
You put in a lot of detail and effort in your videos. It shows and is appreciated.
Thank you brother, truly means a lot. Welcome to the channel.
Such a good teacher.
That's a nice knee pick, if I cant get that knee pick, I turn it into a sort of double where you capture the hips and blast through laterally. I love it!
You can totally hit that from the same leg forward, I do it all the time just pick the knee into a ride the pipe single and bow from the inside position out.
Ya can't hesitate in an MMA scenario or on the street though, you've got to go get it, straight away.
I learned this in varsity wrestling 15 years ago. Very cool to see it in BJJ.
this is my first year in wrestling and im wondering if its normal to be passive at first. Id like to know what i can do to be less passive and more aggressive. Thanks.
Great question, this is an important topic so I’m going to spend some time on this one and just know feeling passive is very normal. When you’re new at anything and haven’t developed proficiency in that skill to a certain level of confidence you won’t trust yourself so you will be hesitant. You can’t trust your skill set to be effective yet and that’s why you’re passive. If you knew you were going to take them down every time you attacked, you’d be attacking all the time. How do you overcome this? Drilling. Repetition. Not just for sheer repetitions, but deliberate, thoughtful drilling. Be incredibly detail oriented when you drill. Try your best to get everything perfect. As you become more comfortable with a technique have your partner increase resistance slowly until you feel you can hit it live. That’s another factor, seek out a partner who’s serious about getting better like you. One last thing, and this is incredibly important, when it comes time to spar you need to be ok with failing. You need to simply pull the trigger when you think you’ve got an opening. You are going to fail the majority of the time at first. It’s apart of the process and it doesn’t mean you suck. It means you’re serious about getting better. Winners have failed the most. Very good question.
I have my own move I call it the run
@@WrestlingUniversity thats such an articulate answer, thanks.
to be most aggressive, don't hesitate and go straight in for what you want, try to dominate the fight
@@WrestlingUniversity bro I love u. Such a good and sophisticated response. This really helped me.
Nice video!
I can see the application of the Naihanchi Kata in Okinawan Karate here, exactly, Thank You for this video.
Great teacher
Very good. Thanks.
Thank you!
How should you approach this move when stuck in a grip hold from the other opponent? I'm new to wrestling so I don't understand everything yet.
1) Clear the grip tie (by grabbing the very end of their sleeve with either hand - one at top and the other on the bottom - and with one hard singular jolt push their grip down and away from your body), 2) circle away to create space, and 3) re-enter from space utilizing the reach set up.
Best to circle away from the onset to avoid them getting the grip in the first place, but if your opponent closes distance keeping them out of range by circling away. This has the added benefit of drawing them in. As they begin chasing you, you then close the distance and lunge towards them (now the two of you are moving towards each other creating the illusion of speed whereas if you had just simply attacked him while he was stationary ie standing there in front of you there would have only been one person in motion).
Hope this helps!

Everyone after watching this video:
Hey big bro, come here real quick
What's to stop him from blading you in the face with his right 🤔
Thanks.
i really like how you considered all of the possible outcomes and made a solution that becomes effective even through the most difficult resistance. thank you

Very well articulated!
Man you should be a coach!!!
But honestly I don't even think so because you should be on your way toward getting your doctorates degree or something man!
So I have a question when you're a bigge guy what's a good way to chain wrestle or best take down to have I'm 6.3 I'm 250 lb..I'm also 50 Year old with bad knees from playing football but. Im really falling in love with jiu-jitsu but I don't really have great takedowns anymore other than a basic double is there any other good take down for big men.. I I was always a strong tackler playing football so I have a good double leg but I want to know if there's something more effective than blast double somebody
Wait, it you're 6'3/250 who are you wrestling that's bigger than you, Andre the Giant?
Stepping on the foot is good too.
Good stuff
Quick question: Tried it... Bloody PHENOMENAL, but is a single-leg with a trip better or
is this better (both work and I just love yours more, cause it's quick), so which one in your opinion would be much more advantageous?? (I really wanna know)
This one is better unless cause there’s ways to prevent a single leg or defend it. This one is good cause it’s fast and not easy to defend
Check out my latest videos, I’m doing a whole series on how to takedown a larger opponent. When you learn a few different finishes you’ll become better overall; certain finishes work better for certain reactions/body types. This is generally the best overall finish for new grapplers facing larger opponents, but there are others that will really serve you well so don’t limit yourself, learn them all 🙌🏻 great question
The Kani Basami is a fun counter if someone holds onto your leg for too long :)
No thank you, I like my knees unbroken :)
I like keeping the head up higher and making contact with my forehead. Pinching the knees is what we teach in wrestling if you are going to reach back for the heal. It's excellent technique for wrestling.
Bravo this was explained very well some guys can do these take downs very well but can't articulate and explain how they do it at all lol
Played dropsys with friends, 1 guy is the heaviest and strongest and he floored me everytime but took a while before he could. I looked up videos and this is brilliant 👏 next day we played again. I used this against him and I won! But u have to run at them then bluff them bit before otherwise they will know your strategy 😉
How do you feel about sweep singles?
Excellent. The best overall takedown in grappling. Checkout my videos on it!
The only Video that shows How to shoot from a southpaw stance ♥️🙏👊
Southpaws unite 😉
Holy shit this is genius even in bjj
Good move. You could also step inside put your other arm around his back and take him down the same way more or less Rickson Gracie style
two good moves
gonna use this agains my bullys!!!
How would you defend guillotine from here? Just by keeping head up?
Exactly. The guillotine threat isn't nearly as big as people generally think from this position IF the structure of your shot is correct; head up in the ribs and shoulders tilted with pressure on the leg.
Grappling 👍
Homie wearing the Martial Arts anime pants, that's whats up😅
Question and I hope it isnt a dumb one. I been playing around with a dude that is 180lb and I am 150. He is way stronger and taller.
We are both just messing around and very inexperienced. Ok my question is....he keeps getting a hold of me and lifting me up in the air. Then slamming me on my back (with a soft landing of course)....what can I do to not get picked up? Or what can I do once I am lifted up? Thanks hope you see this.
Become Rey Mysterio and pull some sort of crazy move
You need to watch my “Actions and reactions” video I teach multi layered defensive drills and movements 👌🏻 also going full Rey Mysterio isn’t a bad option 🤔
Is there an outside single version of this to avoid rear knees and rear uppercuts when shooting in?
Yes. The head outside Single / High Crotch. I will actually be posting that in a few weeks. The trade off of the head outside single leg is your neck is now perfectly positioned to be guillotined. Similar to the head outside double, but even more vulnerable as you only have one leg secured on the entry. Done correctly, these vulnerabilities are minimized, but as with all offense there's always counter offense.
Hope this helps!
-Coach Adam
Bro you're the shit.
can also hop and "stand" on the holder. theyll have to commit to go down with you and their head will be your oyster
Fun fact!
Matching same side foot would in fact be "mirrored".
Nice
I want to learn im gonna fight someone tom in schoo5
i need info beacuase im a 90 as in a weight class for 102
At that weight giving up 10lbs is equal to giving up 10% of your body weight. Technique is going to be ultra important for you to be successful, but do not ignore the strength and weight factors. Eat brother, you’ve got the opposite problem most weight cutting wrestlers face (not a bad problem to have). I was regularly undersized for my weight class and would often bump up for my team during competition. Focus on the technical details and keep the calories coming. Keep us posted on your journey.
@@WrestlingUniversity update this wasnt recent but i finished my season getting a 3rd place metal in a tournament and 7th place in nyc for the 102 weight class
My favorite take down for bigger people is stepping forward and putting my leg between his leg then he trips but if u grab his leg he can get u in a head lock..
I’m wondering :how many bigger and good opponent you have taken down with this? And why this is the most effective takedown, how many others you have tried?
Lots! Checkout my other videos! 🤙🏻
nice moccassins
1:21 continue that motion but with palm up right under the chin while pushing forward and grab the collar if possible. Don't even need to take the big boy down.
hey i heard from ur finding ur stance video that 90% of people are right leg leads but in this video you say that in western countries most will lead with their left leg? which leg do they generally lead with?
In the pure sport of wrestling (for which the stance video was made) the vast majority are right leg lead. In “striking” or “stand up” (which was taken into consideration for the snatch single video) the vast majority are left leg lead. We can go into reasons why-most westerners are right hand dominant meaning their power hand is their back hand which would require their left leg to be the lead leg, etc. But regardless of the reasons that is how it pans out and it’s important to train accordingly. Good question.
@@WrestlingUniversity wow thank you for the quick response!! makes a lot of sense! i was wondering how you deal with that change of lead leg if you do mma? do you keep your wrestling stance or do you switch to a striking stance? or is it a bit more nuanced and you’re constantly alternating. in pure wrestling should you train both stances?
Wish I could be as good as you.
im on blue belt finally 3 years waiting

@@WrestlingUniversity you look like robby keene

Most strikers are left leg lead. Most wrestlers are right leg lead.
I AM 5 FOOT 2 AND YOU WILL NOT WEEBLE WOBBLE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
What if they are tall, strong, but clumsy and get disoriented easy?
Those are the easiest people to takedown! lol
@@WrestlingUniversity This takedown is good, but I find when I grab the leg against people like twice my weight, I simply can't generate enough force to drop them on their butt.
@@farzana6676 You can, just keep your grip and circle to his back picking his leg up and trip him or if you're strong enough after circling to his back, you suplex him( my personal favorite)
I got a fight at school tomorrow. We go until someone taps out so I’m just trying to learn take downs and pins and practice them on my friends before it.
What happened
If an experienced opponent moves quickly, he will parry back into a stance grabbing your collar or shirt
Therein lies the paradox of the move: is this guy a trained fighter? Being a tall guy against a shorter opponent, I always know its coming. Simply because there's no way a shorter, smaller guy can win without that move.
I'm only 5 ft and lean with moderate muscle (not bulky but also not dead skinny), but still very light (around 52 kg, whatever that is in lbs) - would this work if I would try it on someone who is literally almost twice my size and weight? Most of such things that claim to "help take down larger opponents" seem to be made for taking down someone half a head taller, not like 4 heads and twice as broad...
I don't want my only option to be kicking them balls in a fight man...
Its all theoretical. There is never any guaranteed moves or holds that will work on every opponent, every time. You best strategy is to have a Plan B. That includes running away if necessary.
What’s stopping him from punching your face when you have his leg
The off balancing effect during the entry and then immediately sitting him to his butt. You should be knocking him backwards with your shoulder on the entry therefore off balancing him so he has to use his far arm to keep balance 🙌🏻
My mom said i could get a drone if i could take her down. Now im a proffesional air photographer

If you windmill like he said you are telegraphing so that now he can counter your move. So dont windmill !!
What's to stop him from putting you in a headlock, the problem with takedowns like this is, most fighters are trained to grab hold of the opponent for support, in this case you head is right there, so while you're throwing him down, he's grabbing onto your head to hold on for support, as you throw him down he's making you go down with him, (while in a headlock).
free von flue choke then
Gonna use this on my brother cuz i told him i could easily floor him👍
What I do if their is 3 people against me I dodge first find their weakness for the first kick their leg grab their arm and put them to the floor making them go over ur body second guy if he’s coming from the back elbow him to the face and then grab his arm and flip over the body the third he tries to hit you dodge go down and kick their foot put them to the floor but make sure to get their stomach on the floor and grab his arm and put it upwards then if he moves his arm breaks in that position he can’t try anything
...you need to make me a video on that one champ ;)

Just remember you’re always taking a massive risk going to the ground in a street fight.
It’s a 50-50 chance you could get stabbed or pounded from someone else or him.
I mean if you’re a 20 something-year-old guy, you know your opponent and you’re in a park and it’s a sanctioned fight over something sure
To do this when you’re out on the town? Extremely bad idea. Unless you like gambling with your life, I’d rather maintain & use distance management. End the threat as quick as possible without risk going to the ground.
I agree. Just for the record, I clearly instruct not to go to the ground in this tutorial; slide out to the ankle with both hands when finishing and stay on both feet 👍🏻
I really wish I knew this in high school.
Dropping the inside shoulder changes everything 🤘🏻
Why the assistant wearing a rope for a belt? The Wrestling University doesn't provide a belt?
