Jeff Gordon's final win still manages to put a huge smile on my face. Even if he didn't win the championship that year, still what a way to go out in your final season by being able to qualify for the final race.
Video is indeed Final Cup Series wins. Jeff Burton race is Busch/Xfinity: a mistake. Should be 2008 Charlotte Bank of America 500. Apologies to The Mayor, he's got quite a fanbase in this comments section!
Crazy to think Johnson, Kahne, Kenseth & Ryan Newman all won their last race in that 2017 season as well as in '03 both of the Labonte Brothers, Michael Waltrip & Bill Elliott.
Nice. I was present for two of those races: Schrader's (my first Cup race) and Petty's. Witnessed FIRST career wins by Nemechek, R. Gordon, Bowyer, Hamlin and Logano!
Some of these are crazy to think about…l Kenny schrader won 2 races that season and then went another 10 plus years ending his career without another win… Richard petty didn’t win again for 8 years… nascar is one of the rare sports drivers stay too long because they still love it but it sucks seeing legends become mediocre for so long
Dave Marcis would like a word..... He last won in 1982, then raced another TWENTY seasons without a win, easily the record. Scratch that. Hershel McGriff raced in 22 different seasons without a win after he won 4 races in 1954.
@@peterwilson9589 Shepherd last won in Cup in 1993 and he missed 2000, and 2007-2012, and raced briefly in 2013-14. So really only 14 seasons without a win. I started watching in the mid 80s as a young lad, I had no idea who he was but probably saw him many times.
@@peterwilson9589 You know what, I'm wrong. Hershel McGriff won 4 races in 1954, then raced in 22 seasons after without a win. So Marcis' total is null and void.

Jeff Burton won 2 Cup races after that Busch race. But if Busch counts a lot of these drivers would be different. Bobby Labonte and Michael Waltrip both won Busch races after their final Cup win.
Obviously none of the winners knew at that point it would be their last win. So many talented drivers in this clip. Nice video to remind people of the good ol days.
Benny got his last win in at AMS. I Grew up just outside of what used to be turns 3and4. We lived in a dome house in the woods. My brother and i used to climb up inside the phillips 76 ball and act like we were calling the races even though the track was emtpy at the time. My uncle now lives in the condo building overlooking the track and i got to witness the repaving of the track a couple years ago. That was awesome to see how they did that. AMS will always be special to me. Great video by the way!
19:27 uhhh... is that REALLY Tony Raines pulling out a 6th place at The Rock of all places?? incredibly impressive considering how much the #74 was so synonymous with backmarker at the time.
He was one of the last cars still on the track during a pit cycle. A caution came out (Mark Martin's engine blew) trapping everyone outside the top 10 a lap down. Right place, right time kind of situation. Still a good effort on his part to keep the car upfront the rest of the race
Great video although was it Cup and points paying races exclusive? Jeff Burtons final points win was ‘08 fall Charlotte race but his final ever one was 2011 dual race. Jamie McMurrays final ever one was 2014 All Star. Again enjoyed the video but seemed to jump back and forth a bit between being cup pints paying only and other ones.
As a Bull Elliott fan, I was SO angry with you for showing Bill’s last win, then immediately cutting to him with a tire down at Homestead the very next week. Then I realized you weren’t being a jerk… it was just Bobby Labonte’s last win. 😂
Bill Elliott's final win was the 2nd time he won the final race and someone else won the Cup Championship. Jimmie Johnson COULD still win a race, he's entering a handful or so I believe.
Most of it has to do with either equipment or injury. Marlin in 02 T. Labonte in 00, Johnson in 17, B Labonte in 03 all had career threatening crashes. Rudd went to Wood Brothers who's team was startung to slow down as well as Robert Yates, Penske (It didn't last that long) and Evernaham Motorsports started to fall to the better teams like Hendrick, Gibbs, and Roush. Even people like Terry Labonte, Rusty Wallace, and Jeff Burton didn't get the best cars.
From 1981 to 1985, Cale Yarborough made only 82 starts (18 in 1981, and 16 each from 1982-85), but won 14 times. In that timespan, he also scored 11 poles, 34 top fives, 43 top tens, and led 3,156 laps (out of 19,981 laps completed). Those 14 wins included back to back Daytona 500’s (1983, 1984), the 1982 Southern 500, the 1984 Winston 500, and the 1985 Talladega 500. He also won the 1984 IROC series championship. Surprisingly, the one once he never was able to win was the Coca-Cola 600, despite 23 tries, getting 9 top fives in that event, including 4 podiums and 2 runner-ups.
In the clip of Martin's last win, the fact they didn't throw a caution was absolutely shocking ! Today they throw a caution for someone having understeer ! 🤦

Crazy how the 28 Havoline car hosted the final win for 3 guys
