I'm glad Co-op and Nisa Local ( which is owned by co-op) has now made a beer permanent fixture in the beer aisle. Thanks to a recommendation from one of my good friends I tried it today and it was an amazing mouthful experience absolutely shockingly amazing I love it to bits I wish I had more.
To be honest. I always thought Porter was just another name for or type of Stout. After recently watching a vid on UA-cam about Porter dating back to 1973. About Porter. I thought i would try Porter. And this is the Porter i tried. My am i impressed. I will take a Guinness And like very pale brew's from micro breweries. But i find bottled beers a bit disappointing. But this West Indies porter is the best bottled beer i have had. So I totally agree with this review. It is stunning!
Absolutely cracking porter; dangerously delicious at 6%. If someone wanted to drink a porter for the first time, I'd give them this. Ticks every box, avoids every pitfall.
Just tucking into one myself as we speak. Lovely drop. Guinness seriously need to make this a permanent fixture in their portfolio......do I like this more than Young's Double Choc? Hmmm. It's close.
Big fan of this, my Bottles I keep in the cellar, not the fridge. Don't have it too chilled or cold. 6% good strength, good flavour, great dark colour in my Stout/craft ale glass. Simple pleasures 😊. it looks as good as it tastes 🙂.
Just come across this - I agree with you 100% on Nigerian Guinness, TOTALLY different than what you get in the UK/ Europe - when I do get back to Nigeria I feel like taking a bath in the stuff, I wish it was as available in the UK as it is in W Africa. Bottled Guinness (if you can find it) is not the most fashionable drink in the UK but go to Nigeria and to an occasion such as a wedding and you will see incredibly dressed women drinking Guinness like it was champange and why not. I have tried the Guinness yellow label - excellent 10/10 for your appraisal.
Just like Simon said, I've personally tried probably hundreds of different craft stouts and porters over the years in search of the perfect beer. My all time favourite was an espresso stout from wiper and true but unfortunately it was a special edition that's only sold during the winter months. This little banger from guiness is my second favourite, it doesn't try to be anything special but it also does everything right. It's a lovely balanced porter with a brilliant mouth feel. I know it sounds harsh but i really wanted to slate this this drink "because guiness" but i just can't. It's really that good.
Loved the video, so consider me a subscriber and thumb up. I tried a pint of this Guinness the other night with my Dad (who already loves it!) and I was blown away by it - it's long finish makes it a drink to be savoured (if you can! I couldn't - that's for sure) and I hope Guinness push this beer much more and it goes mainstream, because you're right mate. It would fly off the shelves. Just DON'T change it nor alter the brewing process - it's brilliant just the way it is.
It's 2019 and this beer is holding it's own! I love this beer and this was the first porter/stout I every tried and I love it! When ever I go to the supermarket and get there 4 for 6quit this is always on the list!
From a regular draught drinker and fan of both Foreign Extra and the original Extra Stout I have to say I agree, a very nice porter. It's sort of mid way between the original Extra Stout and the 7.5% Foreign Extra.
Just been sipping one one while watching the review. Could not agree more! I’m bewildered as to why I’ve not had this beer before today. Quite possibly due to the fact I’m not a huge fan of normal Guinness. Bargain at 4 for £6 in the supermarket.
Like you this beer surprised the hell out of me its absolutely gorgeous. I can't stand the regular guinness either so wasn't expecting much from this at all but its delicious with lots of flavour and complexity. Spot on review Simon cheers
The Guinness in Nigeria is Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. What most people call "Guinness" is Guinness Draught. The Draught is not an old recipe, it was actually introduced in 1959. Makes me wonder what else they have in the archives because they stayed open for 200 years before the modern pint of Guinness.
Fantastic drop! totally belts the crap out of Draught Guinness. by far the best available Guinness on the shelves if you ask me.This , the XX and the Nigerian Guinness are great. the Dublin Porter in all honesty was a bit limp-wristed and looked more like a trendy marketing ploy for people in Shoreditch who thought they were cool drinking "retro" Guinness. the XX in a can even puts the Dublin Porter to shame! Nice review.
Asda has been selling this for £1.25 a bottle for as long as I remember. They must have there pricing wrong because this is one of the best porters I'v ever tried. Outstanding stuff :-)
Ten years later… I just bought 4 bottles of West Indies Porter for £7 in Morrisons, 25p more per bottle than Simon mentions in this video. Inflation proof, excellent porter.
good review love that beer had a moment in Guinness storehouse where I was like Charlie and the chocolate factory and the smells with the tasting reminded me of West Indies porter, lovely beer 10/10
And speaking of marketing it's quite funny that they say this black porter is from 1801 when in reality it was only after Daniel Wheeler invented the black 'patent malt' in 1817 that the brewers were able to make something other than brown sweetish porter. But if it tastes fine then so be it.
I've thought the Guinness Stout flavor in cans & bottles to be a bitter flat taste. So I look forward to trying their Porters in hope of finding better flavors. I'll search out that Nigerian Stout too! I tried the Singapore Stout (ouch), don't bother. I did like Guinness Stout on tap while in Scotland, very tasty!
Yes try and find the Nigerian stout it's so much better than the canned rubbish they churn out. This is great though for £1.50 a bottle, let's hope they export it globally.
Where've you been getting your regular Guinness? I've found different pubs across Dublin to vary vastly in their consistency. Any time I've tried to drink it abroad it's been a disaster. Get yourself to a proper Dublin pub and give it a second go :)
Bought this in Morrisons last night and my opinion was exactly the same as yours, it's an epic beer alright! Have you ever tried Guinness original in bottles? It's no where near as bad as the canned stuff.
This tastes 10 times better out if a tankard or at least some type of metal cup. Most porters do, but this one even more so. You get so much more coffee, toffee and chocolate out of it when it's drank out of metal. For me, it's night and day.
Definitely interested in trying these new beers. Have you never tried Guinness Original? Unlike Guinness Draught it's full of flavour, although not quite as smooth but it's vastly superior in my opinion. Only ever seen it in cans and bottles but its a great stout especially considering it's wide availability! It's about £1.20 per 500ml bottle in Home Bargains too! Before having it I never cared for Guinness, unless if I was in a crappy pub devoid of any decent cask ales
That Guinness ad was actually voted the best ever beer commercial at one time. I thought it was a pretty cool ad myself. Surfers and and wild horses... if i remember correctly ? I'm Looking forward to trying this Guinness as well. Gotta write all these names down in a beer log...I'm new to the world of craft beer. But i am NOT a hipster ! ;)
Best beer of Guinness I've had so far. I have a couple of Guinness Original Stout and Milk Stout in the fridge. I'll give it a try one of these days (been to Ireland a few weeks ago). Cheers from Belgium!!
I've had some Porterhouse brews such as their Oyster Stout and Plain Porter couple of years back. I enjoyed those. Not an expert on either stouts nor porters.
I bought these in B&M bargains; I thought it was really good. I used to know a woman from Ghana; I got the impression she was quite ‘high maintenance’, I thought she was joking when she went on about west Africa’s love of Guinness.
This Guinness Porter is Up there in my all time fav beers. I've just Emptied the Tesco Middleton store of them tonight. so if you we're going there to try one I'm really really sorry.
I'm just halfway through one of these, and you're right, it's good. Thing is, it's my second beer of the night, first one was an Old Engine Oil, and it must be said this isn't nearly as good as that is. I'd give the Guinness a solid 8, but the Harviestoun is a 9.
I went out and bought 4 of these after this review, I used to drink them a lot years ago and I just forgot about them , lovely porter.
Lovely stuff, 2 years after the review.
£2 each at Asda and 4 for 3 offer.
My first try of a Porter and loved it.
To be honest. I always thought Porter was just another name for or type of Stout.

Still give you big black 💩 the next day 😂
Just tried this today. A delightful beer, especially at the very reasonable price.
Just tucking into one myself as we speak. Lovely drop.

Lovely stuff. Haven’t had it in ages. Need to hunt it down again
Had one a couple hours ago ,fantastic ,gorgeous
I prefer Guiness with nitogen in a can if I can't have it on tap!
Just like Simon said, I've personally tried probably hundreds of different craft stouts and porters over the years in search of the perfect beer.

Agreed. Much better than usual Guinness. Love it. Definitely gonna stock up on this one. Cheers.

I love your enthusiasm for beer, I'm going to try this porter tomorrow and I can't wait

I bought this today in Morrisons. In the Fridge now for tasting tonight. Based on your review though I don't think I can wait that long.
Best beer I ever did taste by miles but went into Tesco where I got it a few days back to get a load but there is none on the shelf
I had my first a week ago, and now I've had 12 more since 🤣. Cheers . 🍻

You can still get pint bottles of xx/Extra stout
Asda has been selling this for £1.25 a bottle for as long as I remember. They must have there pricing wrong because this is one of the best porters I'v ever tried. Outstanding stuff :-)
Asda have it thank god I bought 8 cans of Guiness draft from Tesco looking for this taste bud dancer
Ten years later… I just bought 4 bottles of West Indies Porter for £7 in Morrisons, 25p more per bottle than Simon mentions in this video. Inflation proof, excellent porter.
Mmm, looking forward to trying this and the Dublin Porter!

Gary Moseley I will look to try a bottle of Guinness, it's been too long. Cheers
Real Ale Craft Beer am i able to purchase this in the states?
The xx stuff and extra stout stuff can be had in pint bottles. Draught Guinness uses a 75 percent nitrogen and 25 percent co2
Far much better than the original Guinness. THIS IS REAL GUINNESS
Sounds excellent! Can you divulge which supermarket are stocking this for £1.50? Tempted to grab a dozen or so.
Neil Sansom Morrisons mate.
Cheers! Will be popping down the road very soon. Thanks!

doc hendrix I have a home bargains near me, will pop down and pick up a few Guinness Original's in the bottle, it's been ages. Cheers
@@realaleguide Have you thought about reviewing other Irish porters. Guinness Draught porter was the last cask beer in Ireland till the late 1990’s

I'm Looking forward to trying this Guinness as well. Gotta write all these names down in a beer log...I'm new to the world of craft beer. But i am NOT a hipster ! ;)
Now I'm really looking forward to opening a bottle tonight!

Best beer of Guinness I've had so far. I have a couple of Guinness Original Stout and Milk Stout in the fridge. I'll give it a try one of these days (been to Ireland a few weeks ago). Cheers from Belgium!!
If you ever get to try some of the plain from the smaller breweries of Ireland
I've had some Porterhouse brews such as their Oyster Stout and Plain Porter couple of years back. I enjoyed those. Not an expert on either stouts nor porters.
@@matiasmorales2709 Thanks
Hey man thanks for the review do all Guinness varieties.ex:black lager, harps like all of Guinness.
I bought these in B&M bargains; I thought it was really good.
I used to know a woman from Ghana; I got the impression she was quite ‘high maintenance’, I thought she was joking when she went on about west Africa’s love of Guinness.
I’ll try it tonight! Finally tonight!
Should this be served chilled or room temperature?
Probably cool so stick it in a cool dark place

I love all the beers from Guinness! Greetings from the Netherlands. 🇳🇱🍻
Should the bottles be chilled or kept at room temp before quaffing? Thanks
room temperatures definitely
Room temperature
Definitely one of their best brews along with the foreign extra stout. I like the Original too but a little too gassy for me.
This Guinness Porter is Up there in my all time fav beers. I've just Emptied the Tesco Middleton store of them tonight. so if you we're going there to try one I'm really really sorry.

HOW COLD SHOULD IT BE DRUNK AT ?
Cool dark place

HOW COLD SHOULD THIS BE
Room temperature or 15c
I doubt that was brewed over 220 years ago
I'm just halfway through one of these, and you're right, it's good. Thing is, it's my second beer of the night, first one was an Old Engine Oil, and it must be said this isn't nearly as good as that is.
I'd give the Guinness a solid 8, but the Harviestoun is a 9.
Agree with you
why does Guinness in a can taste so weak?
sandy real ale taste better on tap
It's a great stout
It’s a porter
Good
Nice drink, bit like Nigerian Guinness
Where can one get the Nigerian Guinness in UK
hear hear
