This a great porter exactly as he describes it. I bought some from Waitrose based on this recommendation and it was everything he says it is. Loved it. A fantastic beer, go get some!!
I think it's a perfect beer. A harmony of London Water, Fullers yeast and Fuggles. I'm not particularly fond of any of those ingredients in pale styles, but they're incredible in their porter. The fact that its a pasteurised supermarket beer and still has a 99 rating on ratebeer says it all.
So glad this is available in Canada as its one of my favourites - even the canned stuff we get is still fantastic ! With so much junk out there for both mass market as well as craft - I tell people to try this and use it as a baseline. Always have some in stock !
I would definitely agree, as a Canadian we don't get alot of good UK Ales Stouts and Porters, We do get some of the more mainstream Irish ales such as Kilkenny, Smithwicks, Caffreys and of course Guinness, if your lucky occasionally you might find Fuller's London Pride, Fuller's ESB and very rarely Hobgoblin on draught, So on my trip to Newcastle last Christmas I was in beer heaven and had a love affair with British porters, I tried as many as I could get my hands on, and my fave had to be Fuller's London Porter, I also discovered that Guinness has a porter Guinness India Porter and funny enough was my least favorite Thanks for the review, I'll be back in the UK at the end of July to the middle of August and will be continuing that affair Cheers
This beer is my absolute favourite porter, excellent review. I agree with everything you said, plus it does the job. I also love hobgoblin. Well done. Cheers 🍻
Hi Simon, I’ve been waiting for you to review this beer. One of my favourites. You don’t see it in the ‘3 for £5’ offers, but my local Wasteloads (Waitrose) regularly have it on a ‘4 for £6’ promotion.
I usually enjoy beers from them, although this one while decent enough was underwhelming for me with the thinness. But, we all have our palates that provide different feelings, which is why it’s good to see other takes on the brews. Nice video Simon, Cheers!
One of Fuller's best, and a quintessential porter. I tell people, have a bottle of this and their Black Cab stout side by side to see the difference between a stout and a porter.
I get a box of the porter and a box of the London pride I Australia for $280 imported 2x 12 - 500ml bottles. Can’t wait to taste on the cask pour one day
I had this at the great British beer festival and it was the beer of the day for me although it was the Saturday and alot of beers had finished, that was about 3 you ago
It’s a benchmark beer for me and anyone into homebrew the recipe in ‘camra brew your own real ale’ is absolutely bob on if you want to try and recreate it
Wonderful porter. Here in the U.S. it's kind of pricey. So using it as my standard I looked for a U.S. equivalent and happily there are a few to choose from. I finally settled on a hometown brew from Philly called George Washington Porter from Yards brewery. In fact I think it's slightly better. Probably because it's a bit sweeter as they use molasses in the brewing process. They claim it is the original George Washington recipe. Black Butte Porter by Deschutes Brewery located in Oregon is also just as good. Many consider Founders Porter to be the gold standard, but I find it to be a bit too hoppy for my taste.
Stuart Carswell I’ve not had a bad one from them other than the sour ones but that’s more of a personal taste thing rather than them necessarily being bad. Awesome brewery!
As a more accessible go-to beer would this appeal to a relative newbie who has enjoyed the likes of Founders Better Half, Founders Dirty Bastard, Kulmbacher Eisbock, Samuel Smith Chocolate Stout, M&S Cheshire Chocolate Porter, Meantime Chocolate Porter and Schneider Aventinus Eisbock? Never really been a beer drinker as such prior to trying the above (simply could not get into drinking the usual beers available in supermarkets. bars, pubs, etc), previously being accustomed to more sweeter / sweet-ish low-to-non-alcoholic Malt drinks like Malta Guinness, Supermalt, etc though still open to any other alcoholic equivalents.

I pretty much love everything Fullers do.

Interesting and useful perspective. Thank you for sharing!

I absolutely adore this beer. One of my very favourites. Great review and glad the takeover hasn't caused a recipe change.

wonderful porter
Over the years this has been a good porter, and old fashioned porter, what you see is what you get, nice, great video Simon

only reason i go there
I'll put this on my radar. Great review as always, sir! Cheers!

Love it! However still better on draught as it's smoother. Hard to find outside of Fullers tied houses though?

I haven't London Porter in Cask for years and I live in West London.
It's even better in it's natural form.
Where did you get that Fuller's beer glass from???
Had this while watching one of your virtual pub vids. Good beer loads of flavour and nice rich taste.
I had this at the great British beer festival and it was the beer of the day for me although it was the Saturday and alot of beers had finished, that was about 3 you ago
not the best porter but it is a perfect porter, that is why i love it.
Just have it today, it is fabulous, seems much better than before, maybe because of the different batch!
It’s a benchmark beer for me and anyone into homebrew the recipe in ‘camra brew your own real ale’ is absolutely bob on if you want to try and recreate it

I love London Porter. I buy a couple every week. And ESB. Three of each and my weekend is safe.
Drinking one now. 😊
The thornbridge cocoa Wonderland is very good also.... I'm going try this one though!
Cocoa Wonderland in 4 for £6 in morrisons
Cocoa Wonderland is a really good one. Meantime use to do one as well which I haven’t seen for ages but that was also really nice.
@@jjclaws CW is unbelievable value when you get the deal... Thornbridge are such a solid brewery
Stuart Carswell I’ve not had a bad one from them other than the sour ones but that’s more of a personal taste thing rather than them necessarily being bad. Awesome brewery!
@@jjclaws yep sours aren't my thing at all

Need to try this one it's got a massively good score on ratebeer also
Waitrose had it on offer a while back for £1.50 a pop
This is the beer that I measure all other porters by, I was lucky enough to get it on cask once in London.
Waitrose gave an offer on this atm...3 for a fiver...terrific value...do I got 6....
Stablemate of Pride.......wonder what they make as a mix.......not that I'd want to spoil either , but I'd bet the result would be Beer in its Majesty
That’s a wonderful beer 🍺. I am also rather partial to the Golden Pride beer 👍
A solid favourite. Great review
I would love to see this beer in to 6.5 to 7 percent range. I rarely get any beers that are below 6 percent. Just a waste of money IMO.
Just to let everyone know check out Waitrose , fantastic deals on all fullers beers 4 for £6 including the amazing golden pride
Fuller's London Porter is a fantastic porter.
Fullers still states nice they are Brought out by Asahi
