Bit of a late reaction, but I once read a story about a guy that was obsessed with mirrors and at some point he created a spherical mirror. He, infact, did go insane. Or he died, I can't quite remember. It's been a while since I read it. It's a short story by Edogawa Ranpo, if you're interested.

Ok i got it now .. 👍. What i first understood was .. "moving the phone away from the mirror and drawing the border WHILE STAYING at the mirror , the size remains same" that is how i understood it first.
I was looking for a comment mentioning this. Thank you, I feel the exact same way and I can’t even explain why. Something about the idea of my entire perception being warped like that is so weird and horrifying behind description.
Of course, if someone's "shower thoughts" are things like "Hmmm, I wonder if I could create a columnated beam of light?" that's not just Science, that's Technology too! :)
BlackSH0veldeath think of it this way... If you look at a mirror 2 feet away from it and outline yourself, then go 50 feet away and outline yourself, your outline would be the same. You just need really long arms to make it possible but the reasoning behind it is perspective. You never really change size in a mirror since your eyes are what determine the size of the figure in the mirror. Instead, you’re looking at yourself at the exact same size, looking into a mirror that’s the exact same size, just at different distances. Another way of thinking of it is that, if you do the same test and have someone else highlight you and that person is 2 feet away while you stand 50 feet away, the highlight won’t match. It will actually be much smaller since his eyes are seeing you at a different area. It’s hard to explain but the one takeaway you should grab from it is that it doesn’t really matter. It’s honestly just a fun fact rather than anything helpful for the average viewer. Another fun fact though is that, if you look good in a mirror, you look good in person (or at least you’re your type). Looking bad in a mirror though means your ugly (or at least you’re not your type). So next time you look at a picture your friends took and they say it’s fine, then it’s probably fine.
Also i dont think it works from just looking at the mirror you have to trace your phone the way you see it on the camera and then step back and look threw the camera
If you take an object, and make it an infinitely long pillar towards the mirror that keeps the same width, will it magically get smaller when it's further away? No. Perspective is an illusion. It's not easy to explain, but it makes perfect sense. It doesnt get smaller further away, it just seems to. Thats why if you look at it in a mirror, it doesnt ever, ever get smaller.
I remember reading Ranpo Edogawa’s “Hell of Mirrors,” being EXTREMELY confused, then watching this video and understanding why Hell of Mirrors is a horror story.
I read a fantasy book once where the final step of a magician's training was to build and seal a completely spherical mirror with themselves inside it. This opened their third eye and allowed them to use magic. The trick was, they had to work fast for the last bit because the mirror was airtight. Something about the infinite total blackness of a completely sealed spherical mirror, and that imagery through the naked eye was a mental shock to the character. I guess I've always wanted to try it, just for kicks.

I think the reason why people like mirrors more is because in mirrors we tend to focus on our preferred parts, whereas in cameras we see the whole picture.
It wouldn't do much. That's basically what the bean in chicago is, just not perfectly spherical. The reason the inside of a spherical mirror is so interesting is because it's going to continue to reflect light unless that light hits something inside the mirror.
Yes, the phenomenon of reflection. I'm studying Optometry and we have geometric optics and physical optics on the course. What he means is that there is a difference in axis between your eyes and the image, meaning that our perception is different from reality. We see light in a different manner because of our optic system and the effect of the stenopeic (I'm not sure if thats the word in english) eye, the small dot makes the light make a convergence in our eye, making things smaller, he explains this on one video in DONG. And I could go into detail as how the stenopeic hole works and how we use it in optometry for various things, one being that just by the simple fact that this dot can "make you see better" in a test, determine if you have a neurological problem or a refractive one

Maybe, but my language is from a completely different family of languages to English too, yet simple spelling mistake like that are easy to spot. English is based on Germanic and Hispanic or Latinuc languages anyways, so being HIspanic should make it the easiest to learn English.. But of course also depends howlong you or he has studied the language, at least its understandable and gramatically quite correct.
+Stevie Smoovv Be glad this guy wasn't you science teacher or your A would have been destroyed, by the same proportion, from within a mile. Jokes... But seriously, I agree that he's fun to learn from.
Not necessarily, you still look the same except your image is reversed to what you see in the mirror. Look at the point given about Lincoln, he most likely would have preferred the mirror version instead of the real version because he is so used to the look, while everyone would prefer the real version. Just pick up a mirror and and use another mirror and angle it out to where you could see your own real image.
Well technically light is not instant so the light would be travelling through the mirrors as they become more minuscule till the end of time but that’s only possible if the mirrors stay clean enough to let the light through and if the mirrors actually survive that long. Obviously that would be impossible but the light would still travel and reflect a colossal amount of times. Another thing is that if the mirrors actually stay big enough and not reduce to below atom size. 🤯 Edit: Yall I’m so stupid mirrors only reflect 95% of light so the light would end pretty quickly throughout the mirrors 😔

@vladimir putin is andrei panin jfk is jimmy carter You see technology is so advanced that astronomers can use machines on star tracking and over the years they can see from the changes how we are moving. It only takes 1 year for the Earth to rotate around the Sun so this can be tracked multiple times. ok but lets just say it might be like looking at a perfect rainbow.. like there are always some impediment to a rainbow right, but basically its all the - a full rainbow, basically you get the gist, like enough is enough - maybe those small little faults in the perfect sphere would create crazy insane outcomes anyway, and we could zip off into new conceptual planes of thought hahah ... or maybe it would deceive us and make feel that inside a spherical sphere was humdrum, and it was just that tiny fault in perfection which drew us of the path to enlightenment i wonder !!!
Another way of thinking about the "you're always the same size" effect is.......as you pull back from the mirror, your reflection is getting smaller but the mirror is also getting smaller at the same rate.

"Zum Zum Zum! Yo baby - Daddy's home!"
@@rommyjoj326 ..and he came in hard!
So... Basically I found out I am both uglier and fatter than what I am seeing in the mirror.
Katie Bennett um same
you are beautiful ☺
Same too
Wow way to be positive

If this guy was my science teacher I would've past with a+
Too bad he isn't your English teacher then...
Probably he is from an hispian country
me too :v
Maybe, but my language is from a completely different family of languages to English too, yet simple spelling mistake like that are easy to spot. English is based on Germanic and Hispanic or Latinuc languages anyways, so being HIspanic should make it the easiest to learn English.. But of course also depends howlong you or he has studied the language, at least its understandable and gramatically quite correct.
+Stevie Smoovv So it's your teachers fault that you failed, nothing to do with you at all.
+Stevie Smoovv Be glad this guy wasn't you science teacher or your A would have been destroyed, by the same proportion, from within a mile.
Jokes...
But seriously, I agree that he's fun to learn from.
“INSIDE a Spherical Mirror”
first of all, what is inside?
Within the sphere which is the mirror...
You are inside.
After that, what is is?
SaltySnail
A conjunction defining status.
*Mirror*
It's funny: when I invert my drawings I feel like there's something wrong with them but can't find anything
so if i think i look good in a mirror, im actually just ugly af?
I have the same question
Absolutely.
don't do this
Not necessarily, you still look the same except your image is reversed to what you see in the mirror. Look at the point given about Lincoln, he most likely would have preferred the mirror version instead of the real version because he is so used to the look, while everyone would prefer the real version. Just pick up a mirror and and use another mirror and angle it out to where you could see your own real image.
vetis24 Deadass what I'm thinking now 😭😭
haha so i actually am ugly
The way your profile pic matches makes me happy, but at the same time uncoferble.

This video has answered questions I have never even thought about asking before, which is pretty amazing.
00:25 imagine watching an infinite amount for you's taking a shit
Well technically light is not instant so the light would be travelling through the mirrors as they become more minuscule till the end of time but that’s only possible if the mirrors stay clean enough to let the light through and if the mirrors actually survive that long. Obviously that would be impossible but the light would still travel and reflect a colossal amount of times. Another thing is that if the mirrors actually stay big enough and not reduce to below atom size. 🤯
Edit: Yall I’m so stupid mirrors only reflect 95% of light so the light would end pretty quickly throughout the mirrors 😔
@@-Chicken_ technically light is instant because it’s the fastest thing in the universe but also technically isn’t instant because it’s not infinitely fast
@vladimir putin is andrei panin jfk is jimmy carter holy shit that is a college essay right there. Nobody was talking about flat earth here therefore nobody is gonna take the time to read that
@vladimir putin is andrei panin jfk is jimmy carter You see technology is so advanced that astronomers can use machines on star tracking and over the years they can see from the changes how we are moving. It only takes 1 year for the Earth to rotate around the Sun so this can be tracked multiple times. Obviously it’s your choice if you wouldn’t want to believe it since you have a religious perspective or you just believe it’s all a hoax but technically speaking what would the governments benefit from lying to us about space since there are only a few people who will ever go there?
Can you guys shut the fuck up and just upvote my comment

+D1RTY MART1N1 Dude, you can't troll like that. When come on that strong that quick you can't reel the target into the conversation to troll them properly.
Oh god, 7 replies and already a flame war is going on. For God's sake, don't feed the pig.
+Nathan Phillips you do realize that if you say that and they do kill them selves you are liable as a secondary to murder? So don't be an ass.
They wouldn't receive as hard a trial though, you could easily argue that it was a joke and he was unaware.
ok but lets just say it might be like looking at a perfect rainbow.. like there are always some impediment to a rainbow right, but basically its all the - a full rainbow, basically you get the gist, like enough is enough - maybe those small little faults in the perfect sphere would create crazy insane outcomes anyway, and we could zip off into new conceptual planes of thought hahah ... or maybe it would deceive us and make feel that inside a spherical sphere was humdrum, and it was just that tiny fault in perfection which drew us of the path to enlightenment
i wonder !!!
This is surprisingly scary
Mirrors are only scary because I'm looking at my self
Wait-
minguspucha wow, thanks for your profile pic. Fuck
Stare into a mirror for five to ten minutes straight, preferably in a half-lighted room. It'll be like an acid trip.

Adriana Montes 💀💀💀
Adriana Montes Well i thought my penis was slightly over the average. Now I know its huge. Im still ugly tho.
My face is symetrical so I look the same on camera an in the mirror since my hair is symetrical and facial features
I'm 53 now. I've noticed that with every year that goes by, mirrors are of continually decreasing quality.

If you put a mirror a light year away could you look at it with a telescope and see the past?

Wtf, you can look two years in past.

Another way of thinking about the "you're always the same size" effect is.......as you pull back from the mirror, your reflection is getting smaller but the mirror is also getting smaller at the same rate.
