Instant Pot Exploded! Any ideas why this is happening?

- This is our instant pot we got for Christmas about 3 months ago. Used maybe 5 times. Not sure why every time we use it now it makes a loud POP and leaks steam from all around the lid. Why is this happening? The instant pot is new and hardly been used. The sealing ring and wire frame are in excellent condition. Andy ideas? Thank you!
What a misleading title
Safety feature. Blows out seal so unit doesn't actually explode.
You are probably missing the tiny silicone gasket that goes onto the silver pop up seal. Since it isn’t popped, that means the lid is loose and steam is escaping from around the whole lid. The lid is loose until pressure pushes it into a sealed position.
Seal issue. Replace the seal.
Bam done!
Where is the explosion?

There is a limit to how full you can make the Instant Pot. There is a mark for maximum amount you are supposed to put in the Instant Pot. Make sure you are using 1/2 to 1 cup of liquid. Not enough liquid may cause safety issues, too. I have also read too much liquid (most likely over that fill mark) may causes issues as well. Use something other than your hand to release pressure manually. I use a wooden soon; any long utensil will work. A 'natural release' is safer as well. This means when cook time is up; let the pot sit for another 10-15 minutes and it will release the steam naturally. Your food will continue cook with a natural release, so you might have to cut down on cook time.
My two cents: There were two seals in the kit we got, one is red and the other is translucent (ours were anyway). The cooker needs only one to work. The directions make it look as if you need the red one. I suspect if you stack the red one on top of the other one it won't hold too much pressure and leak out around the lid. On ours, the cooker already had the translucent seal installed. Good luck.
I had this exact same thing happen. Its EXTREMELY dangerous to say the least. The issue is not with the seal or that there is something clogging the port, its with the entire instant pot itself. The design of the instant pot is such that the size of the gap where the seal goes varies from pot to pot because of manufacturing variations. Your unit has a gap that is larger than the seal can effectively close while at high pressure. Even though all of the other parts are in prefect condition, the seal still flops out of the way every time it heats up. Instant pot does not control this well enough to make a safe product. They also dont care about the safety of their customers enough to even understand this issue. Stop using it immediately and either get a new one or use a different kind pressure cooker with a tight fitting lid!
@@melw3313 I have been using two 3qt instant pots (slightly different model) for about 3 years. I use them daily, never had any trouble until 3 days ago. One of the pot "exploded" after pressuring up (there is no better word) exactly as this video shown. I simply re-seated the sealing and pressure cooked for a 2nd time and it worked out OK. But today it failed 3 times this way while retrying. I noticed there are 2 visible dent marks on the rim of the pot. It may be "exploding" due to the dent marks which may cause the initial leak and then the explosion. I swapped to use the other inner pot with the problematic pot (the same lid and the same sealing ring), and it worked OK. I cannot be sure the dent is the problem because one time success is not enough for such an intermittent problem. I will try more. I probably will buy a new inner pot.
This is to update about my fix. I used a clock-smith hammer to restore the dent marks, then used fine sand paper to smooth the surface. I am so sure that it fixed the problem - it went from "exploding" 5 times in a row, to months normal operation. I waited long enough to be use. I am sad to hear that Instant Pot is in bankrupt process. I think the product is of great quality. There are so many safety features. The "exploding" is not dangerous at all, it is just annoying, messy from the sudden pressure relief. At least for my case, the "exploding" was caused by the deformation on the pot rim, not a design flaw.
The rubber seal in the lid is either broken or bent or not in the lid.
Lid possibly deffected.. not sealed correctly..lids not engaged? The rubber ring under the lid/valve part.. possibly fell off?
Defect or the Rubber seal mine works good but I think you got to be extra careful because they can be so dangerous
I’m actually leaning against my kitchen countertop in the Insta pot is right beside me cooking our dinner right now we use our Insta pot almost daily we’ve never had any issues with it maybe the pressure got too high and it was like a emergency pressure release
You can always still use your Instant Pot with a regular lid as a slow cooker -- or with the SAUTE' function. You don't always have to use pressure when cooking.
Got an old stainless 6 quart presto. Rock solid
The old ones are the best everything oldest the best nothing like the good old days
Same thing happened to me!!!! And used it every day clean it probably??????
Goddamn quinoa went all over my fucking house
I have seen that is the pot rim is not clean before closing this can happen.
Oh no! I had the same problem with mine. Contacted the company where I have returned it and expecting a new one. Don’t use it again. Contact Instant Pot.
Got to check the Rubber seal sometimes to replace them
Is there food or grease clogging the steam valve?
Clearly the seal
But reading instructions will work wonders
Do you clean your release valve every time? The instructions for mine list that you need to clean the valve but have no drawings or instructions on how to do it.
I don't know what model you have. This is important because if you have a model like the one in the video, the following is useless for you.
I have a duo plus air fryer model. It came with a manual, see if you can find an electronic copy of a duo plus air fryer manual. The manual explains how to remove the seals. Basically, hold the lid upside down, push up on the metal tab, take off the rubber, then the metal tab can come out.
new pressure valve? maybe buy a new one, or a different one.
it’s on the yogurt setting
Shoulda got the ninja
No explosion.
Ur vaulted isn’t working
Looked like extreme pressure relief. Need to clean the kid better get actual pressure relief valve cleaned out.
It just blew a seal. That was not an explosion. You're title is misleading.
INSTAPOT HAZARD!! THIS same explosion happened today with my Instapot Duo Mini (3 quart) model. The rubber gasket and all else appear to be fine but the seal still did not hold which then spewed hot water and cooked rice all over my kitchen. I can't risk the hazard this thing poses to me and others in my house so this is going to the landfill today.
What are the odds? You were filming and it popped ? Why were you filming ?
They specify in the description that it does this every time they cook in it. So they filmed it to catch it doing it again.
It's a big conspiracy Tim.
you need fix
