My wife had 3 miscarriages before we had our little micro-preemie boy. We weren’t dealt the perfect hand, but we now have a healthy very smart 7 year old. Anyone who has gone through a miscarriage should not have to suffer in silence. God for James Blunt for tackling this subject.
Captain James Blunt was a tank commander in the British army before he became a singer, a lot of his songs make you feel like he's driven his tank over your heart.😭
First of all he puts his own pain in this song, because he and his wife had a miscarriage. I don't think he would make such a song without knowing the pain. And the old man in the Monsters video was actually his father. He made a song for him because he was dying of chronic kidney disease and desperately needed a kidney donor. Luckily he received one last minute and survived
ALL of James’ lyrics are based on personal experiences! He has 2 sons but him and his wife desired a daughter , the daughter they conceived , they lost to miscarriage hense this song , you’ll notice as the song goes on the room gets packed up from a full nursery to an empty room . You don’t do that without the experience!!!
Music's function is to move the listener to thoughts and emotion. Not many artists have this ability but James Blunt is able to express his raw feeling's through his music. The majority are real life experiences. That makes it expressive.
It's actually hos own pain, written after a miscarriage they had. He often writes about events in his life, from his father nearly dying, to times in his life in the army, with No Hero. James was a British army major, a tank commander, in Kosovo and at one point averted what could have been world war three by disobeying a direct command. He's a very special person and actually very witty, but also very emotional.
It's like watching children. Never seen grown women so afraid of their own emotions. I've watched 1000s of reactions and this is in the top 5 worst for sure.
This song hits hard on a personal level. His music is very relatable for a lot of people. Another excellent song by him is called The Greatest. He released it during the early days of Covid, the video is extremely hard hitting.
This hits me hard. I had a miscarriage with my first baby 27 years ago. The pain from losing my baby is horrible. I couldn't protect him and I failed him. I never knew the gender but I always felt baby was a boy. 😢
I find it bizarre that so many people commenting on the reaction are so lacking in emotional intelligence that they can't tell the difference between nervous laughter, which is simply an emotional release from the stress and upset of the content, and laughter borne out of a lack of respect or empathy. It's why some people have nervous laughter at funerals, or when jump scared, or when they hurt themselves. If you took the time to put their 'laughter' into the context of the apprehension they were expressing, what they were discussing and even the tears that were evident, you might view it differently.
Thank you for truly watching and understanding our emotions! It was a very heavy song! Our hearts heart for every mother who has lost a child and every father too!
Can you do Bones by James Blunt next? It’s a Beautiful song that a lot of people can relate to. And he wrote The girl that never was out of his own experience. It’s something he and Sofia went through. And this song leaves me bawling every time. I lost my twin sister and although I never met her I still miss her every day. Her name would have been Katharina. I miss her so much everyday. It’s been 17 years and whenever I’m sad I wish her by my side. It’s like some part of me is missing.
I went to see him in concert a few weeks ago and he was excellent. Very good performer and incredibly funny. I doubt there is a better songwriter anywhere but he does write songs based on his own experiences but he isn't a miserable man.
This is a beautiful song and so personal to james and his wife but also hits home for many. Here are some upbeat songs I recommend from james: Stay the night Dangerous Superstar (much better live) Bartender Someone singing along (mixed) Ok Satellites Bonfire heart Bones Postcards Beside you (mixed) 1973 (live) Adrenaline Favourite songs of mine Smoke signals Glow Shine on No bravery (radio 2 version he did in his house) He did a cover for the song flowers ❤❤❤
If you want a real time exposure to some of his sources... No Bravery uses clips he shot of Kosovo when he was a command officer of 30,000 troops or Carry You Home showing him handing to a wife the dog tags and family letter troops write to loved ones when they go into combat. Even the line in Monsters is taken from the common sentiment when a son or daughter is serving in their parent's command, as was the case with James and his father. The theme is, in essence, I'm not your father, your not my son we're just two soldiers doing our jobs. His father would have said this to him on more than one occasion. His inspiration comes in ways most people don't experience directly but he sure knows how to put it into words. The obverse might be seen in the Warning Rock Band where the drummer writes most of the lyrics and has produced some real tear jerkers (Breathe & Black holes to name two) which she sings at the piano. They are too young to have experienced the themes but she reads a lot and has collateral understanding of specific events and her understanding is vivid. The band produces some terrific music and then every so often they just stop you in your tracks with a soft creativity that makes it hard to imagine it coming from a young teenage girl. All that said, you are an excellent team worth coming back for more. Take care David

He wrote this after he and his wife lost a longed for child, as someone who has lost 6 babies through miscarriage I find your laughter and cackling disrespectful. You should never have uploaded this damn reaction video, it is self-serving and cruel.
"The Girl That Never Was" was written by Blunt, George Tizzard and Rick Parkhouse. It was written about Blunt and his wife losing a child through miscarriage.
No, laughter IS NOT a deflection of pain, it's a sign of complete insensitivity to pain. Can you recall the last time that a funeral was 'spiced up' with a few giggles and laughter? was it at Diannas' service or QE'IIs? Bet you've been in hysterical laughter since Hammas and Israel started piling the corpses up.
@@martinunwin9654 Possibly you could get a life that would serve you better than to tell other people what to feel and how to respond. Virtue signaling is a disgusting waste of time..
The laughter is that I think her or someone close to her had a miscarriage, and she is laughing as a method of coping with the anxiety, stress, and sadness. She literally almost cried when she stopped laughing. She is the one that is *most* bothered by the content of the song.
Deflection, it's very normal for humans to deny or deflect the negative feeling. It's an emotional defense mechanism. Some will laugh in these kinds of situations.

This was how he dealt with his own personal pain and sorrow. Like he said about Monsters - how does a singer react to hard and difficult times - you write a song about it. Cathartic, it is you deal with it.
No they have not. The laughing is a defense mechanism. So is the pausing. That's a lot to take it at once and everyone processes stuff like this differently. If you want it uninterrupted, go watch the original.

Music is meant to stir emotions, happy or sad, and every songwriter's goal is to be able to write a song that moves people in the way that this song moved y'all 😢 and James Blunt also has the look of perpetual pain on his face when he sings which adds another layer of emotion to the song. From a deep and sad song, it obviously makes you laugh... decidedly, women today are more masculine than men. It's serious! (Google translate french => english)
I don´t want so sound rude, but that is really the most unrespectful and dishonorable reaction to this song. I got two miscarriages and at least have two wonderful boys. But this subject still rips my heart appart. And with me there are a lot of people who had to experience this dark side of parenthood. It really hurts to see you having fun while watching his face full of pain.
Either commit yourselves to songs like this or do not play them, please! You absolutely ruin them when you pause two seconds in and start that infernal yacking!
Just stop reacting.I have never been so shocked and upset how 3 women could be so heartless. Show some respect for the families that have gone thru a miscarriage. Its very painful and it never goes away.
I know this video has a bunch of down votes and a lot of criticism in the comments, but the Laughing is a Defence Mechanism, These are Laughing so they don't cry, it's just trying to laugh to look tough, You have to laugh because if you don't you'd fall apart.
The reaction to this song is disgusting. My wife and I have lived through this - I'm sad that you can laugh at our loss. You need some serious counseling. I've been a sub for a while, but no more. Thanks for laughing at my wife's pain, my pain and mostly, laughing at the child we never got to hold. I'm unsubing and won't come back.
Mum was trying to be lil bit like hey I have some spirit..and y'all.. laughed it off.. that's so sad.. and I known. But in this video she was trying I wish I had myom to even do this.. 😊..
Be not grieved at the death of that infant child, for it is placed in trust for thee before thy Lord in His great Kingdom. (Abdu'l-Baha, Tablets of Abdu'l-Baha v1, p. 194)
To the people criticizing the three women for occasionally laughing or seemingly having a "good time", it's obvious (to me, at least) that they were just trying to break up the sadness (you can see it in their faces, for goodness' sake), to hold it together as much as possible until the end of the video, especially when they had no idea what it was going to be about. It's also obvious they weren't trying to be disrespectful. The woman in red even mentioned she knows a woman who had suffered such a loss & who has set up a non-profit to support women who have experienced this. But haven't we all done this? Haven't we all tried to crack a joke or lighten the mood, if just briefly, in the face of unrelenting sadness or seriousness? If you haven't, then maybe just try to understand that there's no one right way in dealing with something like this. Please, just allow people to be human & not be judged for failing to meet some standard that you think they haven't met. I just think it's counterproductive to gatekeep how others should react.
You are 100% correct. The laughter has nothing to do with the subject matter, it’s because they are in shock that they chose another James blunt song and it’s just as sad. Some people need to just lighten up

@@Immediatelyyespodcast😂perfect response! Trolls gonna troll
The two in front ruined the whole reaction 🙄
I lasted 1:12 of this reaction video. It's a song about miscarriage, and your sqeaky, high pitched laughing and talking does the song a huge disservice.
At the end of this video we were in tears. This is a true blind reaction channel, we don’t do any research before hand. We had no idea what we were about to watch! We have all experienced loss, either personally or by our closest friends. Watch the whole video before you pass judgement. Have a blessed day.
@@ImmediatelyyespodcastI'm not the only one who has mentioned it, so I stand by what I say. You too have a blessed day - I wish you well.
Wow no real life experience, wake up ladies.
