Lord this song is heartbreaking. We lost our daughter 7 years ago. She would have been our 3rd child. James perfecrly captures the helplessness and heartbreak a husband feels watching how it breaks your wife and you can't do anything to fix it. Meanwhile you still have to be the strong one and keep the family going.
Helplessness is the perfect word. All we can do is be there even if initially it does nothing to help. been through it myself and I had exactly the same experience. There's nothing you can do except be there and endure the punishment of seeing their pain.
James was an army Captain who drove the first tank into Pristina during the Balkans war. He told an American general to f*ck off when he tried to get him to fire on an airfield where it was clear the occupiers were preparing to surrender. Naturally his commanding officer backed him up when the general tried to have him court martialled.
No you got that a bit mixed up. The US General Wesley Clarke who was in charge of the UN peacekeeping force ordered the British contingent under General Sir Mike Jackson to go and push the Russians off Pristina airport, using force if neccessary. General Jackson told him "no" (allegedly using the full extent of a colourful vocabulary acquired from years in the Parachute Regiment), and got straight on the sat-phone to London, who backed him up 100%. London got on the phone to Washington, and 48 hours later General Clarke was on a plane home. Years later, the now retired General Jackson and James Blunt were on a chat show together, and before talking about his latest single, Blunt insisted on thanking General Jackson for saving his life. Jackson looked puzzled, and then Blunt explained that he was the commander of the Scimitar light tank that would have been the first vehicle up the road to Pristina Airport had Jackson not refused Clarke's order.
I’m 58 never had any kids , was married once for a year and a half many many years ago , never remarried since then and never will again .However if I did have any kids he or she would be 36 this august. I will never know since all that was gone on Dec 17th 1988 . It is what it is though , the past is that past and for the most part I leave it there , but from time to time life reminds me sometimes , even in my dreams .
@@MrHws5mp I mean, this is quite a compelling argument/statement tbh! I’m a war buff - hence why I’m here. I think he’ll struggle to come back, which it’s probably why he hasn’t 🙃🙃
James Blunt pulls the emotion right out of you with this one. He writes his songs about what knows very well, his own life. That's what makes him as unique as his distinctive voice, its rare in todays music.
The Girl That Never Was tells a heart-wrenching story of a lost dream. James Blunt and his wife, Sofia Wellesley, longed for a child, but fate had other plans. The lyrics drip with sorrow, regret, and an unfulfilled yearning for the child they never had.
Carry You Home is another great song by him about lan American female soldier in Kosovo that was killed in action that he worked with and became a close friend. He hasn't talked about it much, but in an interview years ago he said he was there when it happened and he wept over her and promised to take her home. In another interview he said that he brought her belongings back to the US for the family.
I love the way James tells such heartfelt stories that many times are from his own life and experiences. I think this song would help people who have a hard time expressing the grief they have experienced through the loss of a child.
I joined the UK forces in Sept 1966,I became a vehicle mechanic and traveled to places of unrest to keep the peace and did tours of N Ireland one was 4 months and I was in belfast a bit weird as public on both sides faught each other.I did 18+ yrs and enjoyed it most of the time.
from what i understand, this is true! He says that writing like this is very therapeutic for him! He certainly wears his heart on his sleeve with his music!
Don't be afraid to let out your reaction, Lulu. You're young so it's harder to just be comfortable in your own skin. But I encourage you to just feel it and let it show.
I have heard this many times but here i am as usual,a life toughrned 70 year old bawling like a child and we are only halfway through. They lost their first pregnancy,a girl but now have two boys ,but as aa father of one girl i would not swap her for all the sons in the world.
Lulu is so sensitive and empathic for her young age❤..you all are ❤full people! React to his "Carry you home",another tearjerker... Best regards ladies🙋🏼♂️
Some more songs from James, Carry you home (the video is not the same story as the lyrics, both are tragic,) Goodbye my lover, No bravery, Same Mistake and for a glimpse of James sense of humour watch the video for Unstoppable. James is a truly special musician.
The 49-year-old told the hosts he wrote the song after he and wife Sofia Wellesley tragically lost their baby daughter. Opening up, James said: "It's amazing how many people can relate to the song. I'm married.
Between my daughter and my son, was Trevor Michael. The line "we never should've picked a name" broke me. even though the miscarriage was 22 years ago.
This tore me apart. I am blessed with 6 kids. I lost 3 pregnancies (one of which was twins). I always blamed myself, that does not go away. I'm 68 and my husband has been my person through it all. My 6 kids fill my heart with so much love. I just know I have 4 babies with beautiful names in heaven that hold pieces of my heart.
JAMES! Going through stuff is one thing but crafting art 🎭 the way he does is amazing. BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA I've called the later 4 songs I've listened to but His First called YOUR BEAUTIFUL 💖 is one you can put on repeat without tissues!! Have a Great Day Ladies!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
"Blunt then released singles "All The Love That I Ever Needed" and "The Girl That Never Was", the latter of which was written about Blunt and his wife losing a child through miscarriage"
One of my oldest friends had three miscarriages in the nineties. On the fourth pregnancy she had massive cravings for pickled beetroot. Her daughter was born fit and healthy in 1996. She is married to my son's best friend. 😊 🇬🇧
My dad was the youngest of eight children , spread out over 26 years . He knew that his Ma had lost four of her six daughters , what he didn't know and I found on Ancestry was that one of them was 8 yo , and a twin was 7 months old , I have yet to find anything on the other set of twins . Grandma's family Bible isn't the original Bible , in the front where you record the marriages and births , only the four surviving children were listed . I can only imagine what she went thru .
tried to stop listening to it but couldn't, all I could think of was my two precious angels, one stillborn and one 10 weeks old. 40 years on it still makes me emotional when I think about it. The worst thing about it was in those days we were not allowed to give her a christian name nor were allowed to go to the funeral (The stillborn girl) they told you after where she was buried. Thankfully nowadays they allow the parents and family to attend the service as was the case with my grand daughter who lived 2 hours, the hospital organised the funeral and even for the cars to take us there as we did not have a car at the time. also bless the NHS as it was all free of charge to us as our taxes pay for it irrelevant of whether you pay tax or not.
So sorry for your loses,42 years ago I lost my first baby a girl she lived for 3 hours after a two day labour.I grieve for her every day and will always wonder what she would have been like. This song is beautiful.

"We're ready."
No, the one thing you never are is ready for a James Blunt song.

Clarke? An American General called Clarke ? Not the first time that name and rank has been the source of ignomony
Yes true song , James singing about the daughter he and his wife lost
Oh Lulu, you're going to get your heart broken some day. But that emotion is what keeps the colours in your life.
Its true, and like with Monsters, James way of dealing with pain and emotion was to write a song about it. He and his wife now have two boys!
James Blunt pulls the emotion right out of you with this one. He writes his songs about what knows very well, his own life. That's what makes him as unique as his distinctive voice, its rare in todays music.
3 beautiful ladies with honest and true hearts.
Very refreshing to see people care about others.
Make lots more videos.
Hemingway wrote a short story: For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.
The song is about the daughter he and Sofia lost. He wrote the song as his way of dealing with his grief
The Girl That Never Was tells a heart-wrenching story of a lost dream. James Blunt and his wife, Sofia Wellesley, longed for a child, but fate had other plans. The lyrics drip with sorrow, regret, and an unfulfilled yearning for the child they never had.
They now have 2 children.
Yeah, they've since had 2 boys.
Lulu, you need a hug girl. Lovely reaction ladies, thank you for sharing, keep safe. Suggestion? "Carry you home".
Love the he sang this song in a very softer voice.
Carry You Home is another great song by him about lan American female soldier in Kosovo that was killed in action that he worked with and became a close friend.

Another true story he sang. He said. In a interview singing is like therapy. GOODBYE MY LOVER BY JAMES BLUNT

The 49-year-old told the hosts he wrote the song after he and wife Sofia Wellesley tragically lost their baby daughter. Opening up, James said: "It's amazing how many people can relate to the song. I'm married.

You should do Whiskey Lullaby... that is also pretty emotional
With the video!!!! OMG what a song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kills me is you trying to take the blame
You're not to blame
@@seanscanlon9067 Thank you so much for these words.
@ No problem, they are part of the lyrics to this song but do not just apply to James Blunt's wife.

"Blunt then released singles "All The Love That I Ever Needed" and "The Girl That Never Was", the latter of which was written about Blunt and his wife losing a child through miscarriage"
Both of our daughters had several miscarriages before thankfully having 2 gorgeous children each. It is heartbreaking to watch someone go through it.
