James Father is a former Colonal in the British Army. James himself is a former Captain. At the time of this recording, his father (Charles) seen with him in the video was dieing of Kidney disease. At the time everybody thought he would be dead in a few months. After the Recording was done, all the crew were in tears & sobbing. Charles in his British Stiff Upper Lip tone says "Hey, why is everybody crying, I'm still here." None of James or his siblings were compatible to be donors. Fortunately, after this song was released & the story was made public, a distant cousin with the same name as his father, (Charles Blunt) came forward after hearing the story & was compatible & thus Charles is now alive & well living with James Mother. It was all recorded in one take as James wanted it as it was in it's rawness. I'm an Old Australian bloke, but the first time I saw that, my shirt sleeve was drenched. I haven't cried like that since I lost my parents. I'm 64 years old. Keep going ladies.

I'm a 60yr old military guy...my relationship with my dad was a rough one..we didn't talk the last 12 years of his life....i will forever regret that neither one of us would swallow our pride. Great reaction
Well your comment has just hit home, I am a 58yr old military guy, from a military family. My farther passed in late October last year and we did not talk for a good 10 plus years. Not sure how I am going to sleep tonight having seen this song and read your comments.
As a 21 year old man who has a very close relationship with his father, just hearing this made me cry and wish you the best. We are both very prideful and arrogant man who have only gotten this far because of his knowledge of my age and going through my teenage years. But, as we both get older, it is getting harder to just move past certain things and forgive so this comment made me realize I need to find a way to let my pride go sometimes. A father is living their first life too, so thank you man and thank you for your service sir.
i didnt speak to my dad in over 12 years also hes still alive but every time its massive disappointment. last time he forgot me and my sister were coming over. that was the final blow my dad is gone. my father is around but my dad died 15 year ago.
Thank you for your service, and thank you for SURVIVING your service in all the ways that really matter. The military just WRECKS a lot of men, including the ones who come home. I'll never forget Patrick Stewart's episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" - all he knew of his father was an awful man who was violent to him and his mother, a bitter old man he certainly never liked. His episode was less about tracing his lineage all the way back, as it was for his friend Ian McKellen. It stayed almost exclusively with his father, and traced him all the way through his military service on the continent during WWII, as he went from village to village, fighting Nazis and liberating French citizens. It put Sir Patrick in touch with all of these ancient men and women in little French villages who remember what he did for them, and told nothing but great stories about how great a man he was. It was the experience of the war that completely destroyed him, the horror of seeing Nazi atrocities firsthand, that left him brainblown and traumatized and completely unable to carry on a normal life. He was such an incredible man, and it was so important to see and respect that. A lot of Patrick Stewart's charity work is based on helping people recover from violence. In honour of his mother, for years that was donating to battered women's shelters and protective victims of domestic violence. Ever since he found out who his father really was, his charity work has expanded to supporting veterans who come home as victims of a different sort of violence--and maybe victims of their own violence too. It's such an important side of his philanthropy, and one I wish more people talked about.
I noticed the backstory has been explained, but they left out one aspect: James' dad was a kidney donor himself. So when HE got kidney disease, he didn't have an extra kidney to work from. The only thing he was left with was to get a kidney transplant. This song is about as heartbreaking as it gets.

This song never fails to hit hard. Maybe the most emotional performance ever? James is a tough cookie having served with NATO in Bosnia during the Balkan wars and is a monster on Twitter where his put downs of haters are legendary. Great reaction ladies. I've lost almost every blood relative from parents to nephews and nieces and all in between. I cry every time I watch a reaction to this powerful video. I too wrote a song when my father died and a poem when my mother died. It helped with the healing.
First time I saw this song months ago, within three seconds I could see the emotion in his eyes. Seen the video reactions of him several times now, and never, ever have I not welled up and I am a 72 year old man. This one I understand, get and feel. Most people reacting to this also feel it.

It's a powerful one isn't it ? When I saw that they were reactingvto this song, I knew I was going to shed tears. I think of my dad everytime I hear it. ✌️
James doesnt do 'upbeat' in his songs, although in real life you cant get him to be serious about anything, even this song. in an interview he said that he had joked with his father saying "you know if you die this will make me millions". Yet theres no doubt the emotions in his songs are absolutely real and raw. when youve taken some time to recover you might want to check out 'goodbye my lover' from him. his biggest hit you have almost def already heard even if you didnt know the artist or recognise the title. its 'youre beautiful' and i'm sure you would know it if you heard it. thankyou for this beautiful reaction to a song very close to my heart. i watch every reaction that i can find to it. the best comment ive ever seen is "this isnt just music, its therapy".
Great reaction to a masterpiece and tearjerker,James Blunt has had an international hit with ",your beautiful " that I thought everyone has heard. If not go listen. 🇬🇧👍
Also, both James (Tank unit) and his father Charles (Helicopter Pilot) served, so the line "I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye" is what they would say to each other when they left for deployments. Thank you for reacting to him! Subbed!
He has a bunch of great songs. Emotional and fun. Some emotional in relation to his army days - No Bravery and Carry you home. Also uplifting but emotional - The Greatest. Then more up lifting - Bonfire heart. He is very underrated and has a lot of great music ✌️
No Bravery is particularly hard hitting and you can see the effect the Balkans had on him in his face as he sings. Respect to all those who have served and carry the cost
No Bravery is a phenomenal track. 1973 is one of his upbeat ones that reminds me of good times. I think he doesn’t get enough credit as a songwriter. I mean the majority of people still just know him as that bloke that sang that “You’re Beautiful” song 😂
I’m wondering how many people understand the complexity of the “I’m not your son you aren’t my father” quote. At first I thought it was disrespectful but I then realized it was about comforting his dad. Such a strange concept. Like yes you’re my father but you also raised a grown man. I can handle it. It will suck. But daddy didn’t raise someone who would break. However, broke my heart but after dealing with losing a significant family member that was basically family family like raised me, man this shit hits home
Both Blunt and his father served in the military and when James's was sent to Kosovo it has been reported that when his father said goodbye, his dad said "Right now, you are not my son and I am not your father, we are just two men saying goodbye ".
When they were both deployed they used to say I'm not your son, I'm not your father as they were 2 military men doing their jobs , but when they came back from deployment they were father and son again...❤❤
@@jedislap8726...huh, you saying his dad wasn't a colonel and James wasn't a captain in the British Army...what are you rambling about!!....watch a few interviews with James explaining that line, he makes it clear why he says I'm not your son , you're not my father before being deployed...
My Mom just went through this with both her Mom and Dad earlier this year (my Grandma and Grandpa). Now the chapter has turned and soon my siblings and I will be the ones caring for our parents. Time really is a bastard sometimes.
Always so weird when you tune it and see the reactors laughing having a great time and not know whats coming. Powerful song to change emotions the way it can. When it hits very early and you can see their faces change is incredible. Music and just take over a person
if you ever have the chance, you need to see James sing this live. Just extraordinary. He is so great. He has so many other songs that just get to the core of emotions, an expression of his time in the army in a vey tough time in Europe.
“You B*tch” I’m in bed next to my sleeping wife and I couldn’t help it I laughed so loud when you said that, cuz I was thinking the same thing! You can’t play this song for unsuspecting people on camera! LMFAO! That was epic!
To think if Captain Blunt had not taken his Guitar to Kosovo with him we would not have the artist and outstanding musician James Blunt and this beautiful song broke me a little each time I hear it
there's humor in that James just came in unannounced and fxxking annihilate the whole scene wrecking ball style and leave everyone in ruin. this song destroys, holy shit😂
The Girl that never was is another tear jerker and a recent one from James. You should also check out Carry you home, No Bravery and Goodbye my lover. As for upbeat......not James' strong suit lol.
My apologies for the delayed response, only stumbled upon your channel this evening. I don’t comment much but feel compelled because I’ve heard this song and watched reactions countless times but never have I witnessed the dichotomy of life experience shared so raw. Lil cutie in the middle posted up at a near 45 degree angle at 2:19 into the song. Anyone who has been through it knows what his simple lines mean. When they turn off all the lights, when you fold their clothes on the chair. When someone outside of your circle kindly lets you know it’s time and they aren’t coming home. Not judging in the least for those who haven’t been there, simply expressing respect for those of us who have. Best wishes in the journey for you all.
I'm not for sure if it has been written previously but the music video ( because of Jame's Dads condition) was shot in one take. The reason James did this with his father was because the odds were really against him - one kidney ( after he donated one to save someone else) - stage 4 renal failure - and being able to get a kidney at his age that would sustain him (the reason why James is seen wiping away tears. This is a video and song that stays like his hit "Your Beautiful" - Thanks for the reaction girls - yo🥲
James Blunt (real name Blount) is an extremely talented singer/songwriter. As you've seen in the comments below, he served in the military as a British Army officer in Kosovo... Eventually served in the Household Cavalry. He also apparently stood watch over the Queen Mother's coffin. An interesting side note - there's a chapel within the Tower of London called 'St. Peter Ad Vincula', see it if you ever go there. In there is a memorial to two Blounts, James' ancestors, dating back a few centuries. I was surprised to see it and be shown it myself, by a Yeoman Warder, because something else was closed (yes, even I as a Brit still go to places like the Tower!). The family has a long history. This song hits hard. I think back to several years ago, when I watched my own father slowly ebbing away in a hospital bed. Blunt's back catalogue is well worth a listen. He is terrific.
I first heard this song when I got in my car after spending the night with my step-dad in the hospital. He had a heat attack and they discovered that he had stage 4 lung cancer while he was there. We both knew what that meant, but we didn't really discuss it, but we talked all night, and I told him how much he meant to me and how much I loved him for treating me like his blood relative, and how much I learned from him him about being a good dad to my daughters. We were super close when i was younger, but we had grown somewhat distant for a few years in my late 20s due to some issues he had. He got his act together and we had reconciled and become close again by the time he had his haert attack. My sister came up to take over the vigil, and as soon as I got in the car, this song came on. It fucking broke me. I'm a 6'2" 225 lb man who is normally pretty stoic, but I was sitting there with tears streming down my face while listening to this. The lines in this song fit perfectly fir a step-father and step-son relationship. He died a couple of weeks later, and I am so thankful that I got to tell him what he meant to me before he died. I would've hated to have not had that time and not talked to him about all of it.
This was the first time he'd sung it to his dad, who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and was not expected to survive, although they did eventually find a donor and he made it. Both James and his dad are former officers in the British military. First time I heard this was 3 days after my Dad passed away and it broke me I lost my Dad 4 years ago this August after he fell and hit his head sadly he didn't survive it caused a bleed on his brain I sadly never had the chance to tell him I loved him and that hurts but i know he is at peace now.
I love when a song can evoke such emotion. Even sadness and heart ache are important to experience. Truly a moving song that is painful to listen to, but its important to accept that these emotions are there within us. One of the most moving things that I never hear mentioned is how James handles the chorus (I'm not your son, you're not my father...). The first time through it is just him singing it. The second time its two part harmony and the third time we hear a heavenly chorus. That in itself pulled at my heart.
Expecting ROAR monsters! What we get instead is about real monsters... The ones that we need to protect our loved ones from when they face their end, and the monsters that stay with us when we know we've run out of time.
Father wounds are some of the deepest most difficult to heal, definitely in my case. I lost my dad when I was 39, he was 59, that was 31 years ago. So many things left unresolved. What I wouldn't give for just one hour with him again
Well done for making it through without pausing! Check out his song "No Bravery" about what he experienced in the Kosovo war in the late 90s while serving in the British Army under NATO. It's a song that is brutal and annoyingly still so relevant now. James is a brilliant storyteller, one of the best. He'll always make you feel something, whether that's sadness, joy, or anger. For something of his more light-hearted, check out "Bonfire Heart".
His song 1973 is a good upbeat one but most people knw him for your beautiful which was good but he gets ripped for now. Hes an amazing comic who makes fun of people who troll him so watching his comebacks is so funny hes the best. Sure theres a few compilations out there
I could not imagine singing this song for my father if he was dying. This is what James did for his father who was dying of kidneybdisease. Amazingly when thisnsong came out and the story was told a distant cousin came in and was a match for a kidney transplant. I believe his is still loving to this day because of this song. Also if you haven't seen it yet look up Iam Tongi singing this song on American Idol months after losing his father. First see his audition and then watch him play it live with James. If you don't tear up watching it them you might be the monster
Late to this show, he has 2 more no bravery, and I'll bring you home. Great songs by a great singer. Another in the same way is Dan Vasc with American trilogy, sung in remembrance of his dad, which loved Elvis, 5 days after his father's death. But first try his Amazing Grace, sung by a metal singer, you will be blown away
How lovely to see 3 women move from thinking about lipstick and makeup to life. Welcome to the World men occupy. I hope people who watch this understand the short duration of life and start to understand and respect each other. The World today has slipped into self importance and has forgotten our parents and the generations that have given us life. Play a part or give up.
What a great blind reaction. I was on the edge of my seat because I knew what you were going to see and hear and it was oh so evident you hadn't a clue... but I cry every time I hear this. Three minutes of the most emotional music I can imagine...and it shows on Blunt's face.
I’m a 51 year-old Australian army veteran who served the 28 years. I’ve lost more people that I can count up in my life. I grew up with no parents but I have five children and 4 granddaughters and when I hear this song all I can think about is that my health is filing due to an underlying issue and I see this song from the parents perspective and it breaks my heart and every time I watch this video it brings me to tears. James Blunt is an English singer who has a gift for conveying sadness in a beautiful and unique way in his lyrics and videos. If you want to hear another one and react to him I highly recommend his song “ GOODBYE MY LOVER” this song proves how effective his storytelling is about loss because it is the number one song in the world played it funerals since he released it many years ago. Go check it out that’s on his official page
It's quite amazing that you do music reactions for a living but have never heard of James Blunt...but I'm happy you enjoyed it...he's fantastic...please try listening to some of his other classics...great voice and tremendous writer.
Anyone who listens this song and doesn't show any emotion must be devoid of any feelings. Listened to this numerous times and it still catches me out, not as bad as when I first listened to it though.
Its a weird feeling we all have for that bond between a child and its parents, when we visit our parents (dad or mum ) we are all just children again and life is just hard! but when time comes where they leave hopefully you are such a rolemodel yourself at that time for your own kids and then its our time to say goodbye. Life is tuff and beatifull, really a reminder to enjoy every moment
I listen to this song and it hits me from the other direction. My father died in 2004 but we did not have a good relationship. This song hits me in the fact that I hope I have done a good enough father to my son that he will feel this way when it is my time.
The reason behind the song is Jamie's dad needed a kidney transplant but at time couldn't find some so James did this song what was written by his sister, as far as I know not long after this a long lost family member was found an he matched the dad an he served.
I am 43 years old and when i heard this son i cried like a baby . My father has liver failure and i know ive only seen him 3 or 4 times my whole life . But when i hear this all i can think is i hope my sons will feel this way about me when my time comes ..... 😢
Nothing more rewarding than seeing ignorant, self-facing content creators being served a slice of real life and being made to deal with it in real life. The front end behavior is most of what’s wrong with humanity. The back end commentary is what gives me hope. Love each day in hope of doing better for your neighborhood.
the reactor on the left seemed to be hearing but not actually listening to the words. I’ve never seen a genuine reaction without some form of tears. The other two saw theme seriousness in the song and really listened. They forgot they were doing a reaction which is great! The left one seemed out of the song. I hope she relistens privately. The song is like getting gut punched and while you’re down a continuous combo just keeps hitting you.
James Blunt is great at pulling emotions out of people which I find surprising considering his dad brought him up with that "men don't cry" mentality. His most famous song is "You're Beautiful" which was everywhere in early 2000 so am surprised at how many people that don't know him when I see reaction to this song. "Good bye My Lover" is another sad one if you've ever been through a hard break up. "No Bravery" has actual footage he shot when he was stationed in Kosovo. He's much funnier on Twitter then in his songs lol.
The 'You're not my son, I'm not your father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye' was what Charles had said to James went he went off to the frontline in Bosnia. Hence it is reversed in the lyric and played back to him, several times.
I appreciate your reactions, which were just like mine the first time I heard this song as I realized what it was about. Here's another song video that I think you might like ... "15 Year Old Emma Kok Sings Voilà - André Rieu, Maastricht 2023 (official video)". Be sure to include the intro at the beginning. It has just been released and has already gone viral in just two weeks with over 11 million views. You might want to have a box of tissues handy ; )
One thing I haven't seen in the comments is a little info on the kidney transplant that saved his father's life. James wrote this because they couldn't find a donor match, but the power and publicity surrounding the release of this video caused a distant cousin (who happened to have the same name as James's father) to get tested, and was a match. The surgery took place only 22 days after the video was released. This demonstrates the power of social media!
James Blunt just dropped another fantastic song - The Girl That Never Was Watch the Official Video you will get more out of the songs meaning...oh and bring tissues.

thanks blonde im glade it made you cry too since you picked it
It's a powerful one isn't it ? When I saw that they were reactingvto this song, I knew I was going to shed tears. I think of my dad everytime I hear it. ✌️
@@doobiedave9686 it makes everyone think about there dads this song will hit hard everyone that has lost there dads
everyone all jokey mcjokey pants before this song starts... 6 seconds in and 😱😭😭😭😭😭
James doesnt do 'upbeat' in his songs, although in real life you cant get him to be serious about anything, even this song. in an interview he said that he had joked with his father saying "you know if you die this will make me millions".
Subbed!
No it wasn't. They never said that to each other at all.
@@jedislap8726 Okay, buddy. I did notice you didn't deny the other part.
@@rweishaar1066 Why would I deny the part that is publicly known to be true?
@jedislap8726 ...you look like a 70's porn star!! 🤷♂️🙈😂😂
I never had the chance to meet my father and it crushed me.... incredible song
I mean the majority of people still just know him as that bloke that sang that “You’re Beautiful” song 😂
you said it exactly right, if music doesnt make you feel something inside, then its just noise!!! love you ladies
I cried like a baby when i first saw this, and everytime since. It brought back all the feelings I had when I lost my Father.
When they were both deployed they used to say I'm not your son, I'm not your father as they were 2 military men doing their jobs , but when they came back from deployment they were father and son again...❤❤
No they didn't. It never happened.
Your Beautiful is my favorite of his. This song makes me cry every time.
I cannot watch this without dissolving into tears! 😢 I think we all need a little Forestella sorbet after this! 😳 Thanks again ladies! 👏 👏 👏
TRY THIS SONG GIRLS BY THE SAME MAN " THE GIRL THAT NEVER WAS" JAMES WAS A OFFICER IN THE ARMY, HE A MAN WITH A BIG HEART
Yep, raw and crumpled, about 1:39 #2 realises, at 1:44 honest tears begin. And some kind songs are kindly proven, three cheers all around.
I would've hated to have not had that time and not talked to him about all of it.
i think James is an honest song writer and singer
the one on the left is the only person i have witnessed not shed a tear to this song
" Carry you home " is a must see by the same artist. This guys song writing is incredible.
I can’t believe you haven’t heard “Your Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover” by him. Yeah are from a few years ago but both are amazing songs.
Excellent reaction to such an emotional song.
I'm going through this now and it's not easy. Thank you
❤
His song 1973 is a good upbeat one but most people knw him for your beautiful which was good but he gets ripped for now. Hes an amazing comic who makes fun of people who troll him so watching his comebacks is so funny hes the best. Sure theres a few compilations out there
Thank you Ladies that was beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I could not imagine singing this song for my father if he was dying. This is what James did for his father who was dying of kidneybdisease. Amazingly when thisnsong came out and the story was told a distant cousin came in and was a match for a kidney transplant. I believe his is still loving to this day because of this song. Also if you haven't seen it yet look up Iam Tongi singing this song on American Idol months after losing his father. First see his audition and then watch him play it live with James. If you don't tear up watching it them you might be the monster
There are many more emotional journeys to be had in James' songs...also a very good natured and funny guy despite the songs of despair :)
So he has a song called You're Beautiful that was a radio hit, you've probably heard it but didn't know it was him. It's a very pretty song
I am 71 every time I hear this son I cry like a baby love his voice ❤❤❤❤
Louis Capaldi - Wish you the best. You’ll cry your eyes out.
As a guy.. it hits different.
Going in to this song blind is a definite gut punch! Beautiful song tho.
😢I just feel so affected by this 🎵 beautiful, heartbreaking
Carry you home is the next one. Get the tissues. It's about a lost army comrade.
It's quite amazing that you do music reactions for a living but have never heard of James Blunt...but I'm happy you enjoyed it...he's fantastic...please try listening to some of his other classics...great voice and tremendous writer.
Glad you enjoyed it
He is great and has such a great sense of humour. Try No Bravery next
Imagine Lelia at a red light crying her life out over that song.
It's definitely a powerful song.
Was funny watching you guys laughing at the beginning when I knew what was coming.
Maybe you guys have heard "Beautiful" before. It's the first song I heard on the radio from him. I suggest it.
I just love you three! Where are you from?😊 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪❤️
Anyone who listens this song and doesn't show any emotion must be devoid of any feelings. Listened to this numerous times and it still catches me out, not as bad as when I first listened to it though.
It broke my heart .
Listen to 'no bravery, from when he was in the British Army ❤
his song 'Wisemen' might be upbeat enough to stop the sobbing, came out maybe 20 years ago
You need to listen to his new song The girl that never was. Another personal experience from him
Its a weird feeling we all have for that bond between a child and its parents, when we visit our parents (dad or mum ) we are all just children again and life is just hard! but when time comes where they leave hopefully you are such a rolemodel yourself at that time for your own kids and then its our time to say goodbye.
Life is tuff and beatifull, really a reminder to enjoy every moment
I listen to this song and it hits me from the other direction. My father died in 2004 but we did not have a good relationship. This song hits me in the fact that I hope I have done a good enough father to my son that he will feel this way when it is my time.
Bonfire Heart is another good song of his.
Bonfire Heart by James Blunt is what you need after that. Equally beautiful, but will not rip your heart out
He also sings "You Are Beautiful"
Your next reaction to James Blunt should be 'carry you home'.
The middle woman got it. When the mouth sags open and you try to widen your eyes to stop the tears.
Awesome reaction! Very genuine❤

A real tear jerker…”WOW” when you ladies just fell apart, so did i ❤
Please do more James Blunt -- especially "You're Beautiful".
Try some Micky Flannagan and expand your British audience 😂
You need to hear his other great song...."Goodbye My Lover"
James Blunt just dropped another fantastic song - The Girl That Never Was
Watch the Official Video you will get more out of the songs meaning...oh and bring tissues.
Great reaction Love the song it hits you right in the heart
The gentleman in the vid is his father who was dying of cancer and recovered due to a kidney transplant.
Damn I thought I could watch another reaction to this song without crying. Catastrophic mission failure.
