Seems like the first hand opinions are great. Myself included, I driven and thought it’s very good for an rtr. Seems like the nay sayers haven’t driven it and are spitballing excuses for it to be bad.
Thanks Geoff! I believe you are right - some of it is certainly that. Some folks really struggle to support a brand like Redcat trying to get into this market.
Great video. Thanks. The quick-hit reactions after driving the car were clear, simple and helpful for making a purchase decision. I haven’t jumped into a buying drift car yet. But the kit version of the RDS is on my radar.
I have the "cheapest" rwd drift tt02 but I've been considering upgrading to the rds to get a little more serious and I think you've sold me on making the call lol
The kit is really a smart way to go if you already have some of the components to make it work well. I have seen many folks already using Yokomo parts to upgrade it...
Whoah never thought I would see someone I recognize in one of your RC videos. The guy in the beginning has come to Appleton, WI hobbytown. I drove his D5 on the track there very nice, super knowledgeable guy on RC drift!
Cool video...always good to see different opinions of drivers from other brands. Luckily I have the FlySky GT5...hope the transmitter switch helps with the stock Gyro
Great video as always, however I’m really curious how biased your opinion is because you were given the rds vs having to pay for one vs spending money on one compared to what’s available and proven in the market. Not trying to be a dick but I see so many biased UA-cam guys praising the cars they get for free. I’ve driven 2 rds one tuned and one stock and it drives ok after tuning but the stock car is un drive able and I watched 3 break out of the box, seems like it might be difficult for a new driver to figure out how to steer their new rwd car when the gyro servo combo doesn’t work out of the box.
Was thinking just fact he's really good at setup would make a subpar car better than my mst ..my mst drift better out of the box than now . I did move the motor .plus human nature to a point you want support co. That supports you . But I've seen some bought needed to be tuned out of the box too. I had just purchased a mst 2.0 should've got the 2.5 ..I do like redcat as a company ..i.may of gotten the rds , surprised they didn't come under with price to gain sales 100 bucks cheaper people wouldn't question which to buy
I'm curious if you actually watched the video??? The whole point of this video was "you don't need to believe me, listen to all of these other folks". I'm struggling to see how you think my views might be biased...when this whole video had nothing to do with my views at all. Your concerns is the MAIN reason I made this video at all!
@@RoadsideRC No, I understand that and can completely respect you doing this. But when I see someone make 7 videos for one product in 2 weeks I ask questions.
@@shredcraftrc You should!!! Did you see some of the other folks who got these as pre-release? They had ZERO drift experience....and ZERO credibility. Just reading specs off the side of the danged box! 7 videos in 2 weeks is just the start when a new product like this hits the market. There is a lot of benefit in getting multiple videos out quickly about a new product. I learned that years ago with the Losi Super Rock Rey. Don't take the number of videos to be a warning flag - take the content within them.
I've already seen a ton of these at my local track, including a couple of the kits with good electronics. What I have yet to see is any of them being competitive. This chassis seems to be slow and hard to tame the front end.
I have now had this exact car at multiple events. Been able to hang with every car on track. I saw you say this before, so I am curious what the difference in our experiences are. I believe you - but wonder why there is the difference.
What track are you at? I ran my RTR stock with cut knuckles at the first Super D round at DARC and had no problem running with full comp builds that cost thousands of dollars.
So I got one of these and a redline battery 4000mah 130c. Tried to use it for the first time today and the controls are super delayed like a whole second. After messing with it for a while the steering is messed up too. It goes way passed the wheels being straight when I let go of the steering. Any ideas how to fix this?
That budget gives you A LOT of options. What other components do you have, and where/how do you drive? Example: what ESC and gyro do you have? Do you want to compete, or do you just have fun in the garage?
@@RoadsideRC I bought the Redcat RDS RTR but the transmitter/receiver is the first I'm planning to replace. New to RC drifting so wanted to see how it goes with a new Tx/Rx first before replacing anything else. Cheers
@@NetSuiteDeveloper There are some cheaper controller that would do the trick (Rlaarlo CT8A, Flysky GT3C for less than $100). Great video and people seemed really reasonable in their reactions. This released like, 7 days after I ordered my Yokomo SD 1.0 and I was wishing a little that I knew this was coming. The SD has been really cool though. I'm curious if you have seen anyone run an XR10 Stock Spec (the one with boost/turbo) with a Justock motor? You know Hobbywing from crawling so you know their motors have great torque and power
Hi Andy! That ESC and motor setup are just fine. I run the XR10 all the time. Works like a champ. The only limitation that motor has for you is there isn't motor timing adjustment on the can. Typically, for RC drifting, the motor and ESC are the last thing to worry about upgrading.

1) ability to tune to your liking 2) driving feel The gyros I prefer (ReveD Revox, Futaba GYD470, Onsiki Daruma) all have a smooth feel and ability to tune to my driving style. It is hard to explain, but once you have tried a higher end gyro, it becomes evident.
I run a radiolink receiver and I find that one easy to use. Never found myself wanting more. Just not sure if I'm selling myself short. But I don't wanna waste money on something I don't need or won't improve the overall outcome. Also I don't run on a restricted course. Maybe that's where the difference lies??
I’m late to this but for anyone else just now watching and asking this question, it’s the feel of it either being smooth as butter or twitchy and not precise. Cheaper Gyros can be hesitant or jerky feeling because it’s slower thinking which causes it to over correct by the time it makes its move. It can be driven just fine but you can feel it like it’s trying to figure out where it should be at all times during a skid. You want it to be smooth and its reaction times to be so fast you don’t even notice it. Also like said above you want to be able to adjust the gains and set it to your preferred driving style. What works for me might not feel that great to you. Some even in this video didn’t like the Gyro when others did like it or didn’t seem to mind it at all. I use them on all of my rc vehicles except my crawlers. Driving one of my bashers through the field I can tell a huge difference between a stick crappy Gyro I have compared to even my DumboRc Gyro Rx’s. It will jerk the steering back and forth in the feild at top speed because it’s trying to figure out what is straight and can’t keep up with the speeds that the truck’s position is shifting. Also these Gyros that come in RTR vehicles are usually adjusted pretty sensitively due to them being marketing new drivers mostly. For someone learning you really might not need that and it can turn you off to the sport overall especially if you don’t know about this stuff. I haven’t driven an RDS but I want one badly. I want a kit so I can build it with my own electronics. With drifting you definitely don’t wanna skimp out on electronics especially the servo and gyro/rx/tx. It needs to be instantaneous the inputs you make. You can get away with a lower grade one in a basher but not something like a street car, drag car, or drift car. Hope this helps 😊
I've had personal experience with this chassis & see no reason to go for this over an MST. It's body looks like crap & it doesn't even have a locked diff. It's a waste of money IMO. Sorry.
