This is one of my favorites songs of all time. I grew up listening to Anita Baker cleaning up the house on Sundays with my mom. The voice is unmistakable and it transforms me back to my childhood so quickly. Fairy Tales is also an amazing song.
Your observations of this song are so spot on. Vocally, in my eyes, she can do no wrong. There's a sexiness this song gives off; "I Apologize" gives me a similar vibe...love it!
She was singing long before Toni B, and beyond her voice is a musician and writer. She wrote and produced many of her songs. You need to listen to her live. There is an entire concert called One Night of Rapture from when her iconic Rapture album was released. The entire concert and individual songs all on YT. She also won Gospel Grammy with Winans Bros. So many hits and uniquely her voice
I have been waiting for Bridge The Gap to review this classic by Anita Baker ever since you began reacting to her songs. I'm so happy you discovered her at the height of her musical prowess!
I love Anita Baker, she is still performing,in that time capsule, she was it,she was everywhere and I loved it.Thank you for bringing back great memories.😊.
Consider You're The Best Thing Yet, Feel The Need & Will You Be Mine from her debut album. Good Love, Mystery, Caught Up In The Rapture, Been So Long, Perfect Love Affair, Fairy Tales. Anita got her start with the band Chapter 8. I Just Wanna Be Your Girl is a Detroit classic.
The video ends, but in original song the keeps going, she scats and keeps on for bit. Beyond her distinct voice, she produced and wrote much of her music. She is a mezzo soprano, but her lower register is amazing. She also is very in tune with the band/music itself, part of her musical genius. She also has Grammy in Gospel with Winans, a very well known Gospel group. Her live singing is amazing too, still selling out shows decades after starting in group, then going solo.
"Love Shoulda Brought You Home" was Toni's first solo debut. And yes, it was written for Anita. But she reportedly was pregnant and not ready to go into the studio. Toni recorded it and it was on the Boomerang soundtrack. Then, it was also on her first album. Compositions is probably her best album. Every track is golden. Fairy Tales, the last track, is a perfect song because of the connection between her and the musicians.
Anita is one of my favorite singers. I consider her style of singing as r & b with jazz overtones. Check out a new, young jazz singer, Samara Joy. She has a Grammy performance of 'Can't Get Out Of This Mood'. There is also a music video of 'Guess Who I Saw Today?' She just released a new album, Portrait. 'Autumn Nocturne' and 'You Stepped Out Of Dream' are standouts. She's only 24, but has won three Grammys, including Best New Artist in 2023.
There’s a gorgeous musical outro to this on the studio version that even makes the song even better if possible. The next one has to be Just Because…just because.
I think I need Anita Baker and Toni Braxton have the same rich buttery deepness but Baker has a hell of a lot more power and a hell of a lot more range. They both can sing soul but Anita Baker in my opinion is right up there with Aretha Franklin that woman can sing.
For Anita Baker songs I love Fairy tales, Wrong man which has a very Tony Braxton feel and Just because are my favorites. They're a little less jazzy and more uptempo.
One of the greatest female vocalists ever!!! Ever!! That voice!!
One of THEE greatest voices ever!!💯
Es mi mi mejor cantante desde siempre
Iconic ❤

She was pregnant here and in old interviews said during this period she was “so full of love.” I think you can hear it. ♥️

She is still touring the US. My favorite is Rapture live from 1985 or 86. Have all of her albums.

I was hoping he was reacting to the album version. That instrumental segment after the track is too good for words!
"Just Because" please react!! One of my top 5 Anita songs and music videos!!
It’s just butter…

Same Ole Love (live) shows a different side of Anita Baker that hasn't been cocvered on this channel, I think.
