Same here, & I have to agree. *I also like to keep borax & diatomaceous earth around for non-toxic pest control, both are so effective & economical. Same goes for pure peppermint oil, in bulk quantity~ love that for so many uses as well.

I've used this recipe before. Good stuff. Didnt know the borax was the thickener. Had no idea why I woke up to a 5 gal bucket of gel 😂 but it worked wonders and took me a lil over a year to get through it for my house of 3.

Thx for your recipe. Wanted to mention that the box of ZOTE flakes is 2 bars worth of grated soap. So half of the box would be about one bar grated. I also like to put in some essential oils- lavender is nice, or eucalyptus smells fresh also.

I add baking soda to my Zote mixture and use a 5-gallon paint, mud, and cement mixer attachment for my power drill. It mixes it much better than I can by hand. Happy to see you sharing your knowledge with those who may not have this experience.

I am old enough to remember American soap Flakes....and NOTHING smells like that clean SOAP fragrance. Laundry day at my grandma's with her wringer washer....we were the ones who hung things on the line.....Laundry was almost meditation....with work ! I always used Ivory soap flakes on towels and sheets until they went to DETERGENT...... I love laundry SOAP. I use this and love it......mine has the washing soda in it, but you are right....so clean.

I always go to a laundromat get bottles out of the trash. I also use washing soda. I use vinegar in the rinse cycle. Vinegar 1. Neutralizes soap residue 2. It's a mildewezide. 3. It also works as a fabric softener.
I never use liquid softener it coats your clothes.

Back to basics is a great idea. I’m 67 and I believe that too. It’s more physical work but it’s way cheaper in most cases. I’m used to working harder. I make and own a soap business and I make coconut soap for my laundry soap. I also use a portable washer which means more work but it really cleans better than my big fancy washer. Great job on the video.
