    Posting my comment from your other video here too to offer my experience to this conversation as well.
    Although I was dissapointed the zine hadn't arrived, I wasn't expecting news this far on and in the end I bought it to support Trevor, not just to 'own' something he'd made. So I was honestly surprised last week when he reached out, apologised up front about mine not arriving and his comms, then shipped one the next day... which arrived this morning! There's a lot of speculation about Trevor's character and what happened with the zine, but the fact he reached out without any deflection and made things right when he could have moved on, is proof enough to me he's a decent guy.

    hey trevor, so are you avoiding addressing all the claims people are making against you just to get your name out there even more? you know, like bad publicity is better than no publicity. or did you just fail because of whatever reasons, and think it's better to avoid the issue you created instead of simply addressing because it would mean having to be a real person.
    either way, i hope all of this is sitting okay with whatever moral compass you have and that you're doing okay. but then again, maybe you're just a product of the environment that you were raised in and you haven't figured out a way to break out of the cycle that affects broken people in a negative way, in a way that makes you think it's okay to not be held accountable for your actions.

    I’m willing to play devils advocate and give him the benefit of the doubt here. He’s an independent artist that probably didn’t realize how hard it is to actually publish and ship a zine, especially if it gets to the scale that it did. I mean the amount of zines sold speaks to how good of a photographer he is, and probably why he’s been put under the spotlight for this situation, more so than probably any other independent photographer would. Yeah, he should’ve communicated better, but I’m not going to discredit him as an artist. I got my zine several months after I ordered it. Only thing I can suggest to those still waiting for theirs is just gotta be patient.

    Well..... he seems a dysfunctional kinda fella, but that doesn't necessarily mean he has bad intent.
    I've run my own successful business before and it took dedication, precision, effort, and discipline. I'm not getting that vibe from Trevor. I'm getting an opportunistic vibe. I could be a million miles out of course and he might have designed this entire thing as a marketing strategy, after all, we are talking about him.

    sorry but... you're pretty much saying "i know some info but i'm missing a lot of them", still you're making a 15 min about it, just making assumptions without a real solid base. I mean, i can believe that he hasn't shipped 100 copies of the zine/book, but do we have any real evidence of him being a scammer? did someone go to the police? As you said in the beginning you received a book after months. Maybe there are other explainations. I think you're running a bit too fast with your judgments (mostly the comments under your video). Secondo thing: this whole story has nothing to do with his work. You can like or not but the paternalistic "you gotta deserve things" is a bit cringe. I mean, people buy what they like. They like his work, they buy his book, end of the story. It means for them it is worthy. I just see a lot of envy from you and the comments here below (and in the other videos too). Also i don't see the point of this: in the interview he just clearly quoted what their friends told him, he didn't say he is entitled to get free rolls from people. It's a pretty huge difference and it seems like you totally missed that. I don't like Trevor so much and he gives me the feeling he is not an honest person. At the same time i just don't know him well enough to confirm or disprove that, so i just don't judge. The only thing i know for sure is that after seeing his video with paulie D i wanted to go out shooting, and this i know for sure.

    There are a lot of bad actors in the street community, coincidentally they are usually the people with high amounts of followers.
    I see a lot of shady activities going around, from the overabundance of workshops, zines that cover only a day's work of photography for the price of a book, or the sheer amount of nepotism and cliquey behaviour (as seen in the New York community).
    It really makes me want to turn my back on any form of community. Have authenticity and integrity gone out of style?

    If someone is short of cash the last thing they should buy is an analogue camera. Film is so overrated and expensive. Buy a digital camera.
    Hubris overload with some photographers, especially the young ones. I doubt they can see for all the smoke blowing around to even take a photo. Garry Winogrand? I don’t think so.
    I hope this is just an error on this young and inexperienced man’s part, mainly because it puts a bad light on photographers in general. Plus he’ll have shot himself in the foot regards any future books he might want to self publish.

    • @PepitoMegaChocolato
      @PepitoMegaChocolato 8 місяців тому +3

      So I agree that analog photography is quickly a budget, but I disagree that if you're broke you shouldn't do film photography. For my part, I don't have much money, and my situation is more or less as precarious as Trevor's. However, I shoot film, but I take my time. I do scouting, I try to find beautiful compositions, I come back to the place at different times of the day to see what lighting on the stage I prefer, etc. I shoot very few photos, it takes me between several weeks and a month to finish a roll of film. But this approach allows me to progress quickly in composition. It's another way of practicing photography, but a very enriching way of doing it. And To reduce your costs you can also shoot in black and white, develop and scan your photos yourself. Investing in a slr camera, a few rolls of film, a cheap negative scanner like the epson one frome the early 2000 , film development equipment and chimical product represents a much lower cost than a good entry-level DSLR .
      And I disagree strongly that film is overvrated. a digital photo will never have the same character as on film. It's not for nothing that some directors still shoot their moovies on film these days ( Nolan, Tarantino )

    • @johnharperphotographyuk
      @johnharperphotographyuk 8 місяців тому +2

      @@PepitoMegaChocolato Indeed. I should have added ‘in my opinion’, as always these things are subjective. I’m of an age group that shot with film because it was the only option available. My friends processed their own work, always black and white, it’s a great process. I sent mine to a developer. By the way, I can shoot absolutely crap photographs with film or digital and with any camera. I’ve proved it over and over again throughout the years! Seriously though, using a digital camera doesn’t imply that a photographer isn’t giving careful consideration to framing, composition and light. Nor that they’re releasing the shutter thousands of times a day. I often go out on a street session with my digital rangefinder and imagine that I had just a roll in there. Focus and exposure is manual and I either use the viewfinder or shoot off the hip. I can’t use a screen, it’s ingrained in me. Every time I’m asked to take a photo with someone’s iPhone I lift it to my eye. They always laugh. I’m sure there is some aesthetic with film, but unless you’re making a ‘major motion picture’ I doubt it makes much difference. Form versus Content is a continual battle for all photographers, some people get carried away with Form, at the end of the day it’s Content that wins the fight for a great and lasting photograph.
      I wish you good light and a wonderful lifetime enjoying your photography.

    • @PepitoMegaChocolato
      @PepitoMegaChocolato 8 місяців тому +1

      @@johnharperphotographyuk Yes, it’s true that it’s all a question of taste and personal preference. And you are right to point out that you can have the same approach with a DSLR and not take 100 photos per minute. I was saying that in relation to Travor, in a video I heard him say that he shot between 1 to 4 films a day. If you are broke, this is not the right approach if you want to avoid going more broke and eating potatoes all day during the month. I think the best compromise is to have a digital camera and an analog camera on hand. For my part, it's the process that I love with film, more than the photo itself, I don't know if that makes sense.
      Cheers

    Unfortunately, you're on a very slippery slope with this topic. I first saw Trevor on Walkie-Talkie and found him mildly entertaining. I followed his UA-cam postings, which amounted to a bunch of phone clips that were boring at best. Through observation, I think he's a street hustler; my comment on the walkie-talkie episode was that he reminds me of the movie character Ratso Rizzo from Midnight Cowboy. My advice is to request that anyone who ordered this Zine come forward and let us know if you received it! Droning on makes you look like you have a bone to pick with Trevor, and people will feel like you are picking on the little underdog. If he's offered a product and has received payment but has not sent out that product, then all sorts of fraud laws have been broken.

  • @faithflanders

    Isn’t about time we put this topic to rest? He’s sent out the zines as we can tell from the most recent comments even though it took longer than it should have. Clearly was a bigger project than expected and maybe we as humans should have some grace seeing as people weren’t actually scammed in the end. After all it’s a photo book…. Just my two cents

  • @mpascal290
    @mpascal290 2 місяці тому +1

    But to be fair, he fully packed and fulfilled all of these orders all on his own. He worked hard with his designer to put it together and compile street photos to publish. My zine had arrived in January this year and was 6 months after ordering and was packed perfectly and in mint condition. I was patiently waiting and it was well worth it for all those waiting still. When referring to his demeanor it is not surprising as an artist. Us as artists have a no b.s. type of attitude to try to keep focused and maybe the way he acts throws off many, but he’s similar to many artists also featured on Paulie B’s ‘Walkie Talkie’. Also his photos and work and any photograper’s work should not be disrespected. Your advice of the percentage might be unnecessary since we all don’t know their decision on what worked best. Being an artist is never easy and saying he’s ‘entitled’ and to work for it is completely crossing the line. Saying Gen Z is reflected thru him is very rude and outta place. Your tone sounds rude in itself. In the end, he’s doing the best he can with what he has. Also he lives in NYC. All new Yorkers struggle one way or another 😅

    And that's another reason why I stopped watching Paulie's videos. The first few walkie talkie were interesting, but at some point, it became sort of a TED talk of the street photography community.
    One could tell that several of those photographers in the walkie talkie series felt as if they were gods, at the peak of their career, regurgitating the usual contrived talks. Obviously, this happens especially if you're young and all of a sudden you feel important, and popular, which I can understand. But I hope for them they'll learn that no matter how many followers, or YT videos you get, what really counts is the work you do, as Internet popularity come and goes.
