"I bought a Range Rover for £150 and it broke down" - that's a bargain right there. You could buy a Range Rover for £50,000 and it will still break down. They just do that.
Can you imagine the idiot that comes round on a £200 interior that offers you £100 then minus your time taking it out plus aggro then going back down to sell the half price interior
Take look around, these RR's are starting to go up in value. The last model that Joe public can put a spanner to. Crying shame to break it, but easily an Autobiography interior is a £1k. Every one was an individual order by the owner when new. £60 - £80k at the time.
You could get a grand just on parts, the seats are decent , doors etc, no loss Calvin its a breaker, and there is always money in Range Rovers bits. Good luck with it.
Join a p38 owners club mate. Ul sell it on there as it is and ul get more than £150 for it. like the other person said Someone will buy it break it for parts. The Interior, switches glass etc people want. The wheels tyres etc if in decent condition, the gearbox if ok. The engine possibly if its not the head gasket gone. The suspension could just be a faulty compressor as its common issue. Lots of useful info on them sites. I had one bout 3 years ago sold mine for 3k so there is a market for them Autobiography are top spec version and are rare to find so ul definitely earn £on it
Looks like you lads have covered all I was thinking. If you're handy on the spanners and can factor out the labour cost and you know a man who does back door head skimming it's a cheep fix but I can't see him pulling that off.
I've had a P38 for years (Thor 4.6), nearly 250000 miles and still going like a champ. When I got it the Head Gasket and suspension were the same as this..... the HGF is an easy job and suspension usually fixed with a compressor rebuild kit (£15 on ebay).
If you end up selling it I’ll happily have it and restore it as I specialise in them and I have 5 of my own right now please be in touch because I’d love it
We have one of these p38 range rovers (a 30th anniversary edition) and we use it daily and sometimes it’s a pain in the ass and sometimes it’s fine for a couple months. Once we had loads of warning lights interior airbag and abs lights. If you ever get any error messages try a brand new battery over 12.8v preferably and it might be ok
Samuel Holden 😂🤣 I have a strong feeling you’re being serious. If I get a chance I’ll do this on my insta story at some point this week. Just for you sir.
I think the reason people buy them is how nice they are to drive when all functioning correctly. It is a shame they are so unreliable because they can be a very nice vehicle for the short period of time they are running proper.
i just bought a 2012 white Z4 2.0 turbo at auction with flood damage said non runner put a battery on BOOM it runs perfect LOL needs a proper clean paid £5500
Calvin, it might be worth contacting a range rover forum for info on suspension. There might be some easy fixes, perhaps the pump as gone, you should here it, and if it's running take the pipe off and see if it's blowing air out or the maybe the level switch isn't working if not just go shocks and springs. Perhaps the radiator is had it again might be an easy fix. Stick some water in and see what happens when warmed. If all fails scrap it. Probably worth more in parts anyway!!
I think the morale of the story is that if a car hasn’t been driven for years you should check the basic systems before driving it off down the road - like has it got coolant and does the water pump work!
As a p38 owner I have to say first of all the battery is too small for this car secondly the air suspension is what makes the car ride beautifully but also able to go around corners and off road usually it's just the pump that that fails and it's quite cheap to change as for the overheating its probs not a head gasket but failed thermostat or radiator also being an autobiography in decent shape makes it extremely rare and desirable
I think you should take us through the journey of fixing up this car, the cost and sale price. Prove that it’s a worthwhile being in the trade and inspire the younger generation.... Great channel mate. HNY.
I bought a 2002 Land Rover discovery that looked like brand new and I really loved it !..... for one month. Then it started , fires , breakdowns , engine falling apart. I would never ever ever own an out of warranty Land Rover again. My insurance helped out and after 14k in repairs it still wasn’t worth 1,500. I traded it and got 2k credit for a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser that is still rolling perfectly with very little Maintnence. The Toyota has helped make up the cost of the Land Rover. There’s a reason all Land Rover interiors look new and that’s cause people just leave them sitting cause mechanics don’t even like to work on them.
It really annoys me when I see these cars treated like this by people who haven't got a clue about them, no way should that be getting driven with the air bags deflated and especially not on a public road. One good thing is these cars are now going up in value because of examples like this out there are becoming more common.
Also who takes in a car the night before, then doesn't check basics... Like has it got water in the Radiator? Does the suspension lift up when started.... And where are the trade plates on the car, so driven illegally with no tax or insurance on the public road.
Speaking from experience, if you're thinking of buying a Range Rover (especially a v8) insist on taking it for an extended test drive until it is fully warmed up. Samcrac fixed his head gasket with a few cans of sealant - it might work on this one. If I had another one then it would be diesel.
The P38 ist´t that bad! I Daily a 1997 4.6 since a few years without any issue. All you have to to is take care of it, for example you have to replace the air suspension after 20 Years and check the Oil and Water weekly. All you have to live with are 15 MPG
Surely plugging in an OBD diagnostic scanner, taking only seconds to do, would come up with the head gasket problem + other issues, or is that just too simplistic and you like headaches?
MOT expired June 2019, tax expired Dec 2019. As a car dealer he may have generic insurance which allows him to drive any car. But not one that has no MOT. Unless he's on his way to a pre-booked test as Haggertime has mentioned,
@@NA-gf1zy You're missing the point; he's already said it's not handling correctly due to the suspension, what if he loses it on a bend & hits an innocent person head on?
The moral of the story..... check your fluids? Don't buy 4.6, air system is reliable if maintained, don't switch to springs! The P38 aren't making any money and will probably disappear as fossil is phased out. I have turned down some good ones for £300-500 and opted for an L322 which still has a good foot hold in the market... if we have a few more mild winters it will probably kill the 4x4 as everyone looks for SUV. If only it was that simple... buy a car, sell a car.... take buyers and unknowns out of the equation and everyone would be doing it, not great advice. Advice is same as gambling... have a pot of money which you afford to lose.
a mate of mine (builder) bought a brand new Range Rover SVR for £120k and it broke down... What your video title should say is "I bought a range rover for £150 and it actually drove!". My dads mate bought a Range Rover Evoque and its been in for warranty issues BUT nothing mechanical - the infotainment system somehow failed - and after 3 months it was all sorted via warranty. They've since purchased the evoque at the end of the PCP period and are so far happy with it having no issues
Used to work with a guy whose brother was a fairly big cheese at Land Rover. He was entitled to a Range Rover company car but chose a Jaguar instead as he wanted something more reliable!
The air suspension system in these is genuinely NOT unreliable, it just needs to be maintained. People just do not look after them properly then blame the problems that arise from neglect as a fault of the car when its the fault of the owner.
Hey Calvin. Could you do a small piece on traders policies, I tinker with cars, 6-12 a year but its tough moving them around, not sure which direction to go with insurance. Not sure what to ask for or which companies to use or what my actual trading description would be. Any info, advice, options is always helpful. Cheers.
Hi Calvin thanks for video.just quick question you said you can buy n sell 6 cars a year private, but lets say if i got already my daily car and i buy another one later that i plan just to keep short time, fix it a bit etc and try sell it do i need insure it etc? thanks
That model Ranger is well worth fixing up and selling , looks good condition so thats a plus, engine etc can be fixed if it been sat probably just pipe perished, for £150 you can afford to spend on it, even if you spent £1500 getting reconditioned engine you still got a bargain,,, keeper all day.
Calvin i really like your enthusiam and know what you mean by fixing problems esp if can be done cheaply. Like this RR, could be simple as an airlock or thermostat, always start diagnosis with free or cheapest things first. Good luck mate and worst case will break for loads more.
You found out the air suspension is duff and then go straight to putting springs on? Wow. The air suspension isn't that difficult and usually a compressor fault (LH side rear of engine bay.)
Buy a Bermach Total, that will recode the key and give you lots of information, most of which will be bad news, but essential when working on one of these. Suspension compressors, despite the manufactuers cries, can be rebuilt, but God it is fiddly, the air bags are not that difficult to change, but consider going to coil springs. Head gaskets are a pain in the ass, espeially disiel , the head can be machines , if your'e lucky, but use some one who really knows the job. Most overheating is the water pump, mounted behind the steering pump.
Most problems do not keep up with technique things. The oil change in the cooling system should be monitored. All system sensor and other. You need to completely change new things to serve a used car for years to come. Nothing is eternal.
I bought a discovery 2 off ebay as a profit maker some years ago. Bag o sh*te headgasket was gone, ended up having to fix many issues on it and just made back what I paid lol, minus about 100 hours graft Keep up the videos mate, very watchable!
Always been the same. Wheeler dealer since my youth. Now nearly 40 and still buy and sell for a living. Not cars tho. . Tried cars here and there in the past when i could just buy a car , drive it back on a cheap day insurance , then stick it outside my mum and dads on a busy main road. Older vw’s like mk1, mk2 golf , corrados etc it was back then.
Love the content and what your saying about the car trade. I am a mechanic and bought and sold a few cars even knowing about the 6 car rule, but what has always been the killer in the profits is tax and insurance. A video about what sort of trade insurance you need to get going, how it works and trade plates etc, not in depth but a basic over view. love the channel and what you are doing
Air suspension was a great improvement ,they do have issues perished leaking air bags, levelling valves dogey compressor but they do drive a hell of alot better than the previous speed boats
To enter the key code it’s the last 4 digits of the chassis number you put the key in the door and for example say one digit is 4 you turn the key to the left 4 times the If then next one is 2 you turn it to the right 2 times and so on👍🏻 also if you battery keeps dying it’s due to your immobilizer go to the boot on the right hand side there’s plastic take it off ( your CD player for the sat nav should be there as well) once you’ve the plastic off you’ll see a little black box with 3 or 4 plugs on it unplug the green one and your battery won’t keep going flat👍🏻 hope this helped
Real good content, don't know why you haven't got a million subscribers, won't be long, always look forward to seeing the next video. Happy New Year Bro
ew PTSD from those chimes and beeps lol. my dad had one of these things. Yeah ended up in parts let’s say that much. I genuinely don’t think it went a couple of weeks without being broken and I was always the bloody one asked to help fix the piece
Overheat may be something simple. Try taking out the Thermostat. Sometimes these fail in the closed position. It happened to me. Anyone would give 150 quid for that.
Buys an old car for £150, drives it right away before proper maintenance i.e. a basic engine service. The motor industry is missing out on this guys' wisdom. Fucking hell.
If you ever notice that your on a road bot very traveled but as soon as you break down everyone in the country decides to show up and most of all if you are moving a car that's not very registered a cop will show up but if you need one it will take all day.
Let’s be honest you were extremely lucky to get as far as you did. And this story ends the same for every JLR owner,,,at the side of the road bellowing smoke. That, my friend, is a motoring fact.
Love those old p38s. Had a black 4.6hse, changed rear air bags for bugger all and stuck some nice 22 inch rims on.. Looked and drove nice.. 10mpg though. Good luck with yours!
Never had one but totally get the appeal of a Range Rover. Big luxury car where you sit and feel superior, looking down on the commoners in their little boxes. Trouble is you need to spend thousands to keep them running, or be a skilled home mechanic. I know I'd soon get bored with four figure garage bills (and maybe still finding myself at the side of the road waiting for a recovery truck). So, on balance I'll stick with my Skoda!😁
head gasket common fault should of checked for white sludge in coolant ect when id of found that i would of had it recovered to take heads off skimmed pressure test new gaskets head bolts and belts done around ten of em now lol

@flip inheck mostly likely is gonna be a thermostat and not a head gasket
@flip inheck having had a p38 and worked in many it's quite unlikely and if it's gone it's most likely due to the fact something was neglected
Hasn't been driven for years.... Doesn't check the belts / oils & fluids before driving it!

G.G Wilson guys a twat

I am a mechanic and bought and sold a few cars even knowing about the 6 car rule, but what has always been the killer in the profits is tax and insurance. A video about what sort of trade insurance you need to get going, how it works and trade plates etc, not in depth but a basic over view. love the channel and what you are doing
Looks pretty decent inside. Slam it to the floor, give it 1000bhp and drag race Ricky and Arthur and Nick.
Does the moss growing where the side windows meet the door skin, mean that's it's probably low mileage? Asking for a friend.
Air suspension was a great improvement ,they do have issues perished leaking air bags, levelling valves dogey compressor but they do drive a hell of alot better than the previous speed boats
Selling the black mk2 focus? What engine / trim / mot
I'm a similar age to you 32 I didn't pay much attention to these cars when I was young until I heard a v8 version start up. Loved the sound of it
Real good content, don't know why you haven't got a million subscribers, won't be long, always look forward to seeing the next video. Happy New Year Bro
How much would you want for the a4 please and what’s the details please
ew PTSD from those chimes and beeps lol. my dad had one of these things. Yeah ended up in parts let’s say that much. I genuinely don’t think it went a couple of weeks without being broken and I was always the bloody one asked to help fix the piece
If it's the head gasket, stick some Steel Seal into the cooling system. Cheap fix and definitely worth trying on a £150 car.
Overheat may be something simple. Try taking out the Thermostat. Sometimes these fail in the closed position. It happened to me. Anyone would give 150 quid for that.
U got any cheap cars for sale how do I get in touch with u
Youre in the car trade. Doesn’t check oil or coolant.
He may of off camera
Buys an old car for £150, drives it right away before proper maintenance i.e. a basic engine service. The motor industry is missing out on this guys' wisdom. Fucking hell.
Do you make much money off your smaller cars or do you rely on the sale of your ‘nicer cars’ (were you started the video)
If you ever notice that your on a road bot very traveled but as soon as you break down everyone in the country decides to show up and most of all if you are moving a car that's not very registered a cop will show up but if you need one it will take all day.
I love these videos with actors who pretend they buy and sell cars, sooooo funny, great job well done, laughed my head off...
Just another dodgy dealer. They’ll sell that for £3000 and walk
Shut up.....
What’s this “Calvin’s scrap diary” 😂😂
Never had one but totally get the appeal of a Range Rover. Big luxury car where you sit and feel superior, looking down on the commoners in their little boxes. Trouble is you need to spend thousands to keep them running, or be a skilled home mechanic. I know I'd soon get bored with four figure garage bills (and maybe still finding myself at the side of the road waiting for a recovery truck). So, on balance I'll stick with my Skoda!😁
Looked at the thumbnail and said "what did you expect from a rangey for 150 bucks" lol.
Is there a link to the cheaper cars?
How much did you make on the £600 golf?
Hi is it forsale by anychance?
head gasket common fault should of checked for white sludge in coolant ect when id of found that i would of had it recovered to take heads off skimmed pressure test new gaskets head bolts and belts done around ten of em now lol
Bits alone that's worth a fair few quid. Just depends on how long you want to keep it or spend stripping it. Decent project
