ngl, If my mechanic told me "ah, its just a sensor" then 200 miles later the car dropped an engine, I'd be expecting the bill at least partially covered... Also, the fact the car hs just had a brand new engine near enough and has drivetrain issues 2000 miles later would have me hesitant to be back at that garage.

@@ouethojlkjn That is why good mechanic is a must.There is channel in my country call "buduci klasici" (future classics ) who import older V8 V10 cars mostly from Switzerland and service them totaly and then put to sell .He record all that is wrong with them and most off time what is wrong is that they are wrongly serviced or that many stuff was put in service book by dealer like it was replaced but they were never actually replaced so customer was lied . LIke some cars that have in book that had try life changed fuel filter 3-4 times had still original filter dated to when car was produced ,or in book how transmition filter and oil was changed with a dealer stamp but when they remove it its still all original filter and transmition oil turned to muddy water.

Great video Calvin, he seemed like a geniune bloke I felt sorry for how much money he put into that X5 probably got ripped off by the sounds of it. Unfortunately, the X5 is a bit of a money pit at high mileage and what BMW tell you is that things like the gearbox oil are 'lifetime' which is nonsense. These maintenance items are crucial incliding changing the tranfer box oil and diff oils when you get close to 100k which not a lot of people know about plus very hard to find a reliable garage these days....
My rear diff on my golf r has completely gone and vw are trying to pass blame on me saying the diff oil was drained when the haldex was done and that's what caused the diff to fail hence not paying out on warranty and the total repair costs is about 6.5k but I'm fighting it.

The three planetoid wheels of the 3rd wheel set are bedded on round washers, which divide the planetoid wheels from the aluminum frame where the wheels are mounted. These round washers are causing the whining! The round washers can/will also work themselves into the aluminum frame over the time, causing a even louder whining and possibly causing also a sudden complete transmission malfunction.
The whining in reverse can happen to all the early production 8HP models, Built before 2014 or so. The whining is caused by the 3rd wheel set in the transmission. The fix, using parts of a later production series for a early production series transmission is a hack of this Service Center. It will not be applied by ZF refurbishing center. Cost for the repair around € 4'000.- (Euros) At least the cause of the whining is clear to me now. It's actually "normal" because it's the way of how the unit was designed. But it's a poor design, which ZF recognized and re-designed.
Don’t listen to what dealerships tell you mate. The difference in rolling resistance between two different tyres does not mess up a gearbox. However mismatched size tyres would potentially cause differential damage.
. A 225 40 18 continental is not the same as a 225 40 18 Michelin . They are not made equally . So yes you don’t specifically need star market but you do need all tyres of the same brand and model
I really don’t get the logic of somebody trying to sell a car knowing it has issues. Fix the issues, then try and sell it. If i was Calvin, i wouldn’t touch it!!!

My missus F21 M135i has done it since she bought it. Plenty of threads on forums of guys having the sound from new. Her cars on 80k miles and she got it at 40k. It was serviced at 45k miles as well. Made zero difference.

Everyone a M57 with ZF automatic transmission. The xdrive is the reason why I won’t buy the twin turbo. Horrid drive IMO and the thought of the driveshaft mounted through the sump concerns me. I guess trick is don’t own one outside of the manufacturers warranty.
It's never been worth 11k. Book value is book value, fact he got ripped a new whole paying 7k on an engine for it is his own doing, that was an uneconomical repair should have been scrap.
Top bloke him. Seemed very genuine and honest. IMO with a full engine rebuild and two new turbos it was worth 11k at the very least. Lovely spec with extra's and lots of miles left in it with the new engine. Maybe could have been a nice daily for the channel? I thought it looked a lovely car this. Not everyone is that bad. I could say the same never buy from a Brit, only shit cars :) I’ve been burned as well. You need to do your homework no matter what and Calvin’s not stupid. I’ve been burned twice by genuine “gentleman’s”, luckily enough or stupidly enough for my behalf I like to take care of my cars, so literally all the cars I’ve sold, the buyers got lucky! I’m still looking at a car that I’ve sold at 134k and now has over 220k. The only thing that I can advice as a Romanian is never buy from a gipsy or from a traveler or don’t sell it either 🙄. Unless you want potatoes 🥔 in your exhaust 🤣.

Anybody with Xdrive needs star rated tyres or Xdrive messes up and gearbox to do with rolling resistance and silica compound of the tyre / weight

He’s over paid on that repair, and most likely didn’t need new turbos. Could have had a recon engine put in for far less.
