- Опубліковано 22 жов 2019
- What is the perfect equation for mashed potatoes and gravy? Many have strived towards perfection, but have any actually reached it? The answer is probably not. But that was before Molly Baz and Carla Music tried to make perfect MP&G. Did they accomplish their mission?

😂
Molly and Carla support my love for crispy taters
Alternative: Two chefs get drunk and make a potato soup instead of mashed potatoes. Public outrage ensues.
Exactly!
The Potato Guy seemed so happy that people wanted to talk about potatoes with him and I love that.
I know he was so excited!
He was such a sweetheart
His life is potato
I would love to ask him about what potatoes they use at Amy's Drive Thru (of Amy's brand organic foods). They are some special proprietary variety that make excellent, excellent french fries. Better than fancy French fry shops. But I can't find anything about them 'cause it's a secret. ☹
You can tell he's passionate about what he does and he probably doesn't get to talk potatoes all that often and share his vast knowledge with people. Other than the people he sells to.
Alternate Title: Two professional chefs judge people for liking mashed potatoes and create potato soup
Ethan LI :D accuracy
I know. Marie potatoes should be fluffy enough to put a well in middle for gravy. Butterball and russet is best combo for achieving. Cream not milk.
Yes this.. chef's are just out of touch with real people and real life
Agreed, taste is probably nice but the runny state of those poor potatoes put me off. It's supposed to be fluffy, light and delicious.
Ethan LI :D Professional Chef is being to kind....more like writers who are foodies who pretend to be a chef and have never worked in a kitchen.
I just love how they keep inserting that clip of Molly recklessly throwing in a handful of salt into the pot lmaoo
And the “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!”

@@Syndromethic Yep. I would say that there are two groups of people . Those who like light and fluffy mashed potatoes, and those who like more lumps and a heavier consistency. Either side.. you need enough body to add the gravy to it. Otherwise it just turns to soup which is disgusting.

I was thinking this the entire time
Arnie Palmie that’s exactly what I thought. I mean, I’m team mashed all they way, but I wondered if fondant would have been the perfect compromise and “Chefy” enough to make them happy.
Rick Bishop seems like literally the nicest man on the face of the earth. He’s just grows potatoes and talks about potatoes excitedly.
Simple beautiful person. Seems pretty unencumbered by inner conflict.
I trust him to do the right thing.
I don’t feel he is “simple”; he understands the science of plant growth and cares that he produces the best potatoes possible and even that they be used in the best way considering their individual qualities. And I do agree with the sense that he strives to do the right thing. Zen-like.
I dislike the attitude which some producers of our food seem to operate under, that they are simply selling product. They could make widgets or chicken carcasses and whichever there was more profit in is the one they would specialize in. I’d rather they care about their workers quality of life as well as the short lives of the animals grown for food and the nutritional quality of plants we consume.

Would have been perfectly fine if they just wanted to reinvent the potato game in Thanksgiving. They didn't have to try to fudge with the general consensus to create the image of "rest of the world wants potato game in Thanksgiving to change."
@Amanda Gerdt Same. I am alright with them trying to make something awesome. I just wish that they didn't try to hard to make us believe that what they are doing is "righteous."

I'm prepping for Thanksgiving and came back to watch these videos again. I still can't get over this one. Why assign mashed potatoes to the two people who clearly hate mashed potatoes? I can only assume that mashed potatoes did something terrible to these two women when they were children; this recipe is their revenge.

@@axlvrgh they made potato SOUP, it's gross.

Molly and Carla: LIQUID
Lauriti kind of explains why they don’t like mashed potatoes... they have never had them...
Lauriti exactly! It’s called mashed for a reason.
Wait, so this isn't normal 'mash' for Americans then? This is potato liquid to me, I'm Irish, we use Maris Piper potatoes and we hand mash them, we can make sturdy shapes on our plates with our mash
@@rachellemj this is definitely not how my family makes mashed! Those soupy potatoes look like baby food! It should hold its shape on the plate, while staying nicely fluffy.
It looked like a soup. Mash should be thick, fluffy and creamy, and no lumps. A trick is to replace the milk with cream and really whisk it fluffy. Also if one wants mash potatoes crispy, just brown it in the oven.
I watched this on my television and then logged on to my phone just to see if the comment section was going wild over the consistency of the mashed potatoes. I was not disappointed.

44:07 I thought Molly switched to a spoon to get more gravy in each "bite"...
She switched for the gravy

As others said she switched to get a spoonful of gravy. That said once you added gravy to that mash you really did need a spoon to get a proper bit of the dish.

They tried, they failed. Results were still mashed.
It's not like they're pretending to be scientific. And the subject is creating the best taste, it's too subjective to ever be scientific anyway. Just enjoy it for what it is :)
You are missing the point of "research"
13:00 I just noticed they're using a square root symbol as a checkmark lmaoo
So I know a lot of people are critical of their idea to make mashed potato soup, but I think with the crunchy topping is balances out. Having a mashed potato thats lighter is good because a lot of other parts of the meal are very thick, like the gravy and cranberry sauce.

That’s the real essence of cooking and learning the entire way with learned knowledge that so many people don’t get and just always wanting a ready made recipe.
