I used your video to wire & install a set of 13" Arlen Ness modular bars on my Street Glide. I had to say THANK YOU for taking the time on the vids. Worked perfectly for me - thank you so much & especially to you Robert. You have a very good way in explaining the steps and the time-saving tips as well are invaluable.
Quick question!! How did you tuck the huge bundle of new wires under the rubber cover and slide the gas tank on so nicely?? I just changed my handlebars and i had to really force the tank over the rubber piece due to the huge bundle of long wires under it. Please explain or maybe make a video because it looks horrible on my bike and i scratched my bike trying to do this :(
Love it! I have iron 883 and I wanna install the new handle myself, it sound silly but I don't wanna spend $ without trying to do it at home. Plus it's fun doing it yourself. Do u have tutorial for Iron 883?
Very practical video, thumbs up! I would like to change handlebars on my 2018 Low Rider FXLR, like 12 fat mini apes, street slammer bars and Hollywood handlebars - which additional parts will I need? can not find info about 2018 softails. thanks in advance.
I can't find a kit .. I have the same bike with the ame handle bar.. I already check on Amazon, ebay goggle and nothing.. where I can buy that.. thank you..
Wait! They make harleys with turn signals? Next thing you're going to tell me is that they actually make them with fully operational speedometers. Are you just messing with me? 😂🤣😂🤣 im going to have to find myself one of these "unicorns " you speak of lol. To me, I find that owning multiple Harleys is the absolute best kind of therapy there is! Pure freedom when riding and then turning wrenches with your boys after a ride just throwing back a few beers and experimenting with different ideas and ways to tweak things on your buddies bike while telling him that you've done it tons of times just so you can turn around and do it flawlessly on your ride. I hope none of my boys sees this comment I just left 😂🤣😂🤣
I have a 2016 street bob with 14” black satin 1 1/4” bars with 4” one piece risers with wires down through the hole in the middle of the risers. I want to change the risers height to 1 1/2” but the wires I have to disconnect from the bike frame after removing the tank. Do you have a video explaining how to step by step. I have searched utube and can’t find what I’m looking for. By the way very tidy work on the bars with only 2 cables visible. Nice look.
Good video. What did you do with the front turn signals? The bike in the video doesn't have any after the install. Do you also sell the wiring extensions for those turn signals?
I’m looking into buying one of your kits for my 2020 Low Rider S. What risers were used to mount them on this bike? I’m sure I’ll have to swap mine out.
Im looking for baby apes in chrome just like the ones in this vidieo asap if possible, first do you carry them 14 inch apes in chrome for a 1994 heritege softail flstn model ? Please get back to me. Thnx dude
Is the mounting diameter 1.25 inches on the 2016 Fat Boy Special. Seriously considering these bars over Carlini because they are 1.5 inch and do not require new risers.
+we have made several sets for Fatboy models 2007 and newer. We make them with a 1 1/4" clamping diameter, with a 6" width at the clamp so they will fit the OEM Fatboy risers. They look really clean. Give us a shout when you get some time and we can work out the details of what kind of kit you want us to build for you. Matthew Nielsen
Yes the mounting diameter is 1.25" on all Fatboy's 2007 and newer. They also require a 6" spacing at the riser clamp, so not just any handlebar will work. However, we have made several sets of Hell Bent bars for these models, and we would be happy to make a set for your bike as well. Give us a shout when you get a chance and we can put a kit together for your specific needs.
I have a 2016 Street Bob. I want to install the Harley Davidson 14" bars. Do I need to replace the cables and brake line? The original bars are about 10". I'd really like to keep the original cables and brake line to avoid the extra costs and labour. Thanks.
You might be able to go with 12" bars and still use stock cables, but keep in mind when you turn the handlebars for steering, those cables move and get tighter which can lead to other not so good problems. For 14" bars, you will definitely need to change your cables. We have them in stock, and I would be happy to put together a custom kit for whatever bars you decide to go with. Thanks for checking us out.
quick question>> Do you need to have ABS reset by dealer like Harley states or can you just bleed the line like normal ? Wasn't sure about ABS and they want 2.5 hours to do it... Thanks
Not at all. Check out my other video about bleeding and brakes on this channel. We are doing it on a bagger, but it is the same procedure on a Softail. Works like a charm. Let me know if you have any questions.
I want that same kit that was installed on the slim; I have a ‘17 slim, myself. Two questions: What’s are the selection of parts you’re using in this video for the slim? And in the ordering selection, there is the option to send in the core so as to get refunded/not charged $495. What is the ‘core’? I’m not clear what that is.
Do you have to remove the entire clutch cable even with a 2019 model? Can’t you just remove it and extend the cable from the new adjustment design and leave the lower part of the cable connected?
You don't need to remove the entire cable. You can actually buy a longer upper section of the cable. Check John Maxwell UA-cam Channel. He did that on his own 2018 Heritage.
+Abdullah Essa Albahhar Yes, this handlebar fits the breakout. We actually change it up a bit to accommodate the 1 1/4” risers on that model. Wiring is no problem. You can order a pre-wired kit like in this video, or go with a complete kit or basic kit and do the wiring yourself. You may want to fleck out the DIY kits on our website
I encourage you to watch minutes 24:00 to 25:00 of our new video we released yesterday (How to Install (STEP BY STEP) Ape Hangers Handlebars on a Harley Davidson Street Glide). Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/VQpr1wAEyFY/v-deo.html Robert briefly talks about sizing up bars and I think you can get a better idea of where you'd fit. It really depends on your comfort level as everyone is different, so hopefully that clip will help.
Would this same process work on an 06 night train. Its my first time, and I would like to know before I start unbolting things and end up with a bigger problem lol
My wife has a 2016 Softail Slim S and the reach to the bars is to much for her. We have been looking everywhere for a bar that will fit her. Are these bars available in a 10" height and if so where can I find them. Very good video, my wife and I both like the look of these bars!
Hi, how can I contact you in order to get this complete setup? I have the same bike, not exactly the same because mine is a 2015 with some chromo parts
Yes, we can build a kit to fit a Street Bob or any other Harley for that matter. Give us a call at 512-264-7333 or, email us at customercare@hillcountrycustomcycles.com
Just found this video...sorry i'm late to the party. I love the Hell Bent ape hangers, I have a 2017 FatBoy S with freight train nacelle headlight on it. Harley says their apes won't work with the nacelle...will yours? How to install?
Awsome Ape , is this a 12'' or 14'' ape ? i have same bike but 2015 model so no ride by wire but same mounting, are you using the original mounting as well ?
Yes, we are using the stock riser clamp. The riser clamp on the Softail Slim is pretty slick with these bars. It just happens to be a 1 1/2" diameter as well and looks super clean once the bars are installed. I think there is a shot in the video that shows a close up. The Hell Bent bars on that bike are 16" tall. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching.
Yes, it will match up with the late model breakouts. However, the width of the risers on that model are a little more narrow than other bars. Call us when you are ready to order and we can set up a custom riser width so that you don't have a large gap from the riser to the 1 1/2" sections.
Why would you take a big heavy bike and make it handle even worse? For the look? I've never been able to understand this. I still remember being amused at Easyrider as a kid.
I new someone that had a bike like that an the bike tire had lose bolts an tire just came off when she was driving on the freeway 😑 I was like no babe I want to tighten ur bolts in tight
Usually, the rule of thumb for changing out handlebars "Safely" using stock cables is no more than 2" taller than what came on the bike stock. Anything more than that you risk stretching the cables or lines while turning, which can lead to other issues.
And now the bike is absolutely perfect.
I used your video to wire & install a set of 13" Arlen Ness modular bars on my Street Glide. I had to say THANK YOU for taking the time on the vids. Thank you so much taken the time to show us in detail . Looks 👌
How do you make sure the wire for the controls don't pinch when putting back on the handlebars???

Great video. Do you know if that particular bike will allow a thinner front tire with the stock front end. Not crazy about the fat front tire
Any ape hangers for 2011 Harley Davidson blackline
Where do you install the turn signals I didn't see them in your video after the install great video by the way !!

+SkinnyVin125 We removed them. Looks cleaner that way. Yes, they are on our website

I got mini apes on my street bob. I just grabbed some 14 inch ape hangers. would I be able to install the new bars without extending my cables???
No, your stock cables will get to tight when you try to turn, if they even reach at all.
are those 16inch?
Do you have to change any fluids or lubricants if changing the clutch cable?
+Coy Rodgers yes, you will have to change tranny fluid if it had a clutch cable. If it’s hydraulic clutch, you will have to change clutch line fluid
Hill Country Custom Cycles should I change the tranny fluid first before adding the new clutch cable
Do you have this setup for a Night Rod Special 2008?
I don't have to replace the entire clutch cable on a 2019 Sport Glide I don't think. . .
