I love this watch. It has been my duty watch for almost 2 years. It’s gone through several scraps on duty with me and has never sustained any significant damage. Perfect duty watch for me.
I've worn one of these for over 10 years working offshore on hydraulic machinery in all weather's , all climates. Still wear it daily & today for many extreme sports. The dual time zone was great when travelling overseas too.
I have an AE1000W but I wanted something that was easier to read, so thanks to this review I chose a w800h and I've been wearing ut for a week now. The font size and back light on this one are so much better! I will still use my 1000w when l travel though. At my age I am more interested in functionality rather than just looks. My third Casio is a GSchock GA2100 Casioak that I wear to play basketball or to the office occasionally. Great review, Tim! Thanks for taking the time to producing it.
I left mine since the first of December 2022 out in my Garden and it will be there for one year for testing it‘s toughness. The coldest temoerature since then was minus 13 degree celcius ( I live in Germany). No Problem untill now with the Watch. 👍🏻. PS: good Video 😊
I currently have this watch and I wear it every day. I am engineer and this watch is very easy to read the time and the date, not big, so easier for me to wear it while doing my work checking the pipes and machine, even though my friend mock it looks like school watch, but for me it suits best for my need.
@@Realidealgear Unfortunately, the solar battery lasts less than 3 years, it is more expensive, and more difficult to find on the market, and in order not to configure the watch incorrectly, it must be charged periodically in the sun for its correct use and accuracy, so taking that into account, I think the w800h with its simple 10-year battery beats any, that's my opinion.
Great video, Tim. Very informative! I might have to get my hands on a W800H to conduct a review! Would love to learn more about that 15 minute 'Timer' mod you mentioned!
I highly recommend it! There are a number of how-to videos out there. I tried to use the soldering iron. Simply scraping the solder off was easiest. From that point, the recurring/single use timer is active. Let me know how it goes for your mod.
i got the G-Shock with the camo face and green strap. iv had a digital watch since 1983, but i got a Citizen a year before that for Christmas which started me on the watch nuttery and sneakers. lol. thanks for the vid

You're right...I found that one out after I bought the Greyman. I do prefer better water resistance because of my work and hobbies. I think the W217 is an extremely close second to the Greyman (W800).
Love this watch. Imo the best beater digital for the money. I ended up spending $20 more on a dw5600 for the EL and the gshock street cred. I still want a w800 though.

I have two W800H watches and I did the timer hack on both of them. I have olive green W800H and AE1200. Much easier to read day/date on W800H. Text on AE1200 is poor, and in shadow of plastic. I like year display on W800H. Makes it a complete scientific instrument.
Agreed. I wanted an olive green model but settled for the typical black version. After this Greyman gets beat up, I'll get a green Greyman for sure. Agreed on the Royale. Its a cult classic but......redundancy isn't my thing when it comes to alarms and time zones....larger number and better readability of date, as you mentioned, trumps an analog circle and map found on the Royale.
It's just so charmingly ugly, like a French bulldog. Perfectly utilitarian and such intelligent design. I wish it had a proper illuminator instead od one led
@@Realidealgear I think that illuminator system all g shocks have is not 2xled but illuminated screed from the back which is excellent. Even without light due to big screen w800 is very readable so no back light is not a big problem
Thank you for watching. IMHO, I'm leaning towards the Greyman. Why? ...Royale: Having multiple time zones and multiple alarms, neither of which I've regularly used more than one...is repetitively redundant. I've only used on of each at a time. Greyman: A countdown timer that automatically resets, alarm set to: one time use, daily or on specific date, larger numbers displaying the time...these are unique features only found on the Greyman. I'm leaning toward Greyman. I appreciate your time and comment.
True on the alarms and attractive is personal preference. I would add the lighting is negligibly better. Below is my opinion not as organized in the video. Not true with dual time (aka GMT). Greyman has dual time or second time zone. The map is akin to having the year on a watch...unnecessary and unusably small when it applies to the zones in the Pacific. While there are multiple alarms and time zones...I've rarely used more than one. Analog display is ineffectively small. Greyman digital display is larger (numbers and day/date) making the day/date is more legible. To be fair, the year on the Greyman is pointless...much like multiple alarms and more than one dual time zone. Neither have mineral glass.... "Resign Glass" on both (per Casio website). I don't use more than one alarm at a time and with the hack, A800H has a recurring or repeating countdown timer that the Royale doesn't have. Also, the countdown timer can be set to a specific date...therefore technically multiple alarms (2) set by date. Royale has less legible display, overkill on alarms and time zones. Royale is a fine watch. Greyman has recurring countdown timer and more legible display with an alarm that can be set by day/date. Royale doesn't have these useable features. Repeating functions unlikely to be utilized regularly is like using four shoelaces on one shoe and then claiming a better value because there are four. Greyman is a better usable value.
Among the many Casios I have in my collection, I have both models plus negative display grey man which I call my David goggins watch ( putting that one on makes me feel like I have to carry the boats that day) … but grey man more practical than royale in real life application I’ve found. Really can’t beat that legibility, which no matter how many functions a tool watch has, legibility is first and foremost key. 👍
The royale looks good but in the end it is poorly designed. It has a tiny map which is virtually useless instead of using that space for the day or date, the same with the "analog" watch, which granted, looks cool, but is ultimately hard to read, and the time is displayed in a small space. Skmei did an "homage" AKA copy which fixes the first two issues, but adds another one because the analog window becomes useless. The thing with the W-800h is that it shares its module with the W-96h and the F-201, meaning they all have the same functions, it's just that some are disabled in some models. The F-201 being the most basic of the three, has the least WR, only being Water Resistant, but having a CDT, Stopwatch and 5 alarms. Next the W-96h has 50m Water Resistance, Stopwatch and 5 alarms. And finally the W-800h only has a Stopwatch but 100m of Water Resistance. You can find videos online detailing how to unlock the W-96 and the W-800's modules, but I'd tell you to save yourself the hassle and get yourself a Skmei 1278. I bought one last September and it's become one of my daily drivers. Cheers.
Not enough reviewers actually examine the benefits of a modules functions and features. I also appreciate that it is a true review. So many creators seem to pass off their initial impressions of a watch without actually living with it or testing it at all. Subscribed.

It's just so charmingly ugly, like a French bulldog. Perfectly utilitarian and such intelligent design. I wish it had a proper illuminator instead od one led
I agree, two LED's would resolve that issue.
@@Realidealgear I think that illuminator system all g shocks have is not 2xled but illuminated screed from the back which is excellent. Even without light due to big screen w800 is very readable so no back light is not a big problem
1200 is way better by many miles
Thank you for watching. IMHO, I'm leaning towards the Greyman. Why? ...Royale: Having multiple time zones and multiple alarms, neither of which I've regularly used more than one...is repetitively redundant. I've only used on of each at a time. Greyman: A countdown timer that automatically resets, alarm set to: one time use, daily or on specific date, larger numbers displaying the time...these are unique features only found on the Greyman. I'm leaning toward Greyman. I appreciate your time and comment.
@@Realidealgear I do agree with 800 being a great greyman. The 1200 is more of a Gentlemans watch, all be it not a fully utilised one
Great watch! But they are morally outdated. They are already losing out to new models with similar characteristics, such as the budget ws1400h...
Very true. The W800 could use an update like tough solar and timer.
Who are you?
Exactly.
Initially didn’t like this watch. The strap is its failing….
I’ve heard that being a longer term issue. Sorry to hear that. Most of the under $50 Casio have weak straps.
Less alarms, no GMT, no countdown timer, no analog display, no map, no mineral glass, less attractive, same price, no thanks!
It has countdown timer and 5 alarms
Among the many Casios I have in my collection, I have both models plus negative display grey man which I call my David goggins watch ( putting that one on makes me feel like I have to carry the boats that day) … but grey man more practical than royale in real life application I’ve found. Really can’t beat that legibility, which no matter how many functions a tool watch has, legibility is first and foremost key. 👍
You could modify to enable 5 alarms and count down timer
Cheers.
😂😂😂 I love it !!! 💪🏽
Thanks!
