As a former Army Cadet, I can't think of any watch other than the Casio W800 that should be on the recommended kit list as well as for the scouts.
Yep. It's perfectly sized. Not too small like F91W. No worry to use it as a beater watch (if broken just buy another one), unlike the G-Shock which its price tag is not so cheap.
It is pleasure to listen genuine British English! Without any obstacles in speech!
I was thinking the same thing. :)
Mine has been running for over 12 years straight on its original battery and it’s still on till this day!
They didn't sell it 12 years ago
@@Simon89Jeppesen I had mine since 2011, I’m not sure when did they first come out but as far as know this watch was being sold from the early 2000s (possibly even pre-2000 era); but all I remember is that I had mine since 2011.
@@ZiadHamwi99 I think the upgrade them slightly but yeah simple and nice watch 🙂
I bought mine on your recommendation little over a year ago. It has been a faithful companion in the African bush, fishing trips, to the gym and everywhere in between. It is very comfortable and although I have more expensive pieces I keep gravitating to this little watch. For the money, I don't think it can be beat.
This was great to see from someone who has five Rolexes! You should pick your son up a G-Shock. I am currently wearing a DW 5600E. It was 50 USD on Amazon and I have not taken it off of my wrist since it showed up. Working in the utility field, and on motorcycles and cars in my spare time. In the water, in the gym, in the shower, in the sun, in the woods, under the hood of a classic car. It fears nothing.
I have Rolexes, an Omega, Timexes, a Citizen, Seikos, and Steeldives. But I also have that exact CASIO w-800h. Sometimes you just need something like a Casio w-800h. It's quite practical and something different to wear.
I wear my w800h everyday. It's a beast of simplicity and functionality. I have many watches but I am so comfortable to wear a cheap and complete watch. By the way, I liked very much your video and your explanations. English isn't my mother tongue, but your English is perfect and clear. Very appreciated ! Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
*Simplicity* in compare A1100 ?
These resin inexpensive Casios never dissapoint, it remains my favourite watch brand. Once the acrylic crystal is scratched up, you can easily polish it with a little bit of polywatch, and you're good to go. My favourite is the classic G square (DW-5600E), it has been with me for 10+ years and surely has some battle scars, but it's still going strong, I only had to change the battery once. Some other alternatives that I wear a lot are the basic W59 (it's a F91W with a better water resistance ) and the AE1200 (the famous CasioRoyale, which is somewhere between the Gs and the very basic models). Everyone knows Rolex, but not everyone knows that they can afford a really good watch too.
There is no watch lover in the world that does not own or appreciate one of the the Casio's out there, greatest money for value watch pieces in the world, love them
Wearing this watch now, I'm 28, absolutely love Casio. This watch actually got me into wearing a watch after a 10 Year hiatus, of which consisted of one childhood Timex, a Casio illuminator in highschool, and a Invicta Pro Diver I was gifted but never wore and gave to a friend in 2013. This Casio W800H (negative display) I picked up after noticing a cool G-Shock my co-worker was wearing, we became buddies and my collection started with this watch I picked up for $20 USD. Have 13+ watches now, add one nearly every month, micro-brands, chinese homage, Casio's and my favorite brand Citizen Group watches, Bulova, miyota movements, ect. This W800H is the most comfortable watch I own, and the best introduction to watches in my opinion. The blacked out look with the negative display gives it a classy, casual, tactical look, and with a Vario leather strap it'll look pure class. This one is staying in the collection for good.
W800h beats every Gshock Casio. I've got two atm both modified with additional feature of countdown timer ... Initially bought for workouts then become a five days a week watch despite having a small collection of five other more expensive watches. Winner all year long!!!
👊💯😺❤️👍
Love my W800H too. I’ve always thought that Casio should have featured the now-standard Countdown Timer in this model. Fortunately there’s a mod you can do to enable this feature! I’ve made a video on my channel.
I enjoyed hearing how you have shared your love of horology with you son, Ash. I've done the same with my son, and it has brought us closer. I own the 800H and there is no other watch more capable for its price. Cheers!
Great video. I just ordered a Casio. It's a cult classic. It goes well with my recent 981 Porsche purchase.
Good choice!
@@TheChapsGuide Thanks, thought it is align with your philosophy.
@@TheChapsGuide possible video for you?
Don't forget the B640.
It has a flash alarm!
And a timer where you can also set the seconds, and not just the minutes and hours.
I own exactly the same watch, and I use it in pretty much identical circumstances. Its the watch that goes with me out on bike rides, or if I'm doing dirty jobs where I still need to keep an eye on the time. (Note: I had to check the plate on the back to confirm the model number!)
Cheap, cheerful - and always gets the job done.
Every chap, no matter his financial or life situation, ought to have a watch like the Casio W-800H.
Hi Ash. Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us. I am a Casio lover of many years, and currently I have 2 Casios in my daily rotation: a G-Shock Casioak, and a World Time AE-1000W (metal band). I was looking for an inexpensive Casio with bigger case and larger font than the regular 91-W, and after watching some videos I bumped into this one.
My deciding factors were its ultra low price of CAD $25 (some 15 BP) , its big font and amazing back light. Durability is a given but something I'm not too concerned about, since I work an office job. I've never owned this model before, and I'm really excited about it because I think it is the first time that I really took the time to write down what I was looking for in a watch, and made my decision based on that and not just looks. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Brilliant as always Ash! And Alex, I dress sartorially, I’m a young chap myself at 26, but I only, and I mean only wear Casio, love em
Arguably, the AE-1500 is a better watch now as it has more features and a significantly larger screen, though it might be too large.
I gave my younger brother one and he has been wearing it for over a year straight, it's acrylic crystal is better protected.
But, the W-800H is famous for having the possibility of enabling the same features by changing internal soldering points.
The caveat being the display lacking the indicators for the 4 extra alarms and auto-repeat mode of the timer.
I went further with the one I bought, adding an image to the background as a personalised present for a friend.
The latter modification halves the display brightness, thus destroying the contrast.
This model is one of the most suitable ones for adding a background image, probably second to the aforementioned AE-1500.
This as it doesn't have decals that get in the way and has a lot of additional room inside.
On the subject of using the battery, as it's very easy to replace those on your own, I'd argue to not worry about it at all.
I certainly don't, not even on my fancier watches with a harder to replace battery.
Thank you for this video! I’ve been on the hunt for a simple but durable watch as I commence a role in healthcare and this has convinced me to order
Glad it was helpful!
Great vid, fully agreed, Sir. Have one W800h since five years - love it. Recently changed the resin strap (the resin strap for the Casio AE1200 fits as well and is much more comfortable. Makes a great difference).
Thanks for sharing!
I have the G -Shock solar reduced and it's bulletproof. Accuracy is unparalleled as it's radio controlled and loses or gains 0 seconds a year. I bike, swim, hike and garden in it. My best beater watch to date.
I replaced the strap with a french parachute strap in blue with a thin red stripe with black coated metals (18mm), and it became even better for me. It's my house watch. that's its function for me 😊
Love the intro! Wonderful review with real life experiences-if a watch survives an active 13-year-old boy, it’s indestructible!
I don’t have this particular model, but I have the $60 G-Shock DW-5600E, an F-91W, and an AE-1200WH. All very very capable watches. I agree you don’t need a G-Shock-it’s more an aesthetic thing.
Yep the AE-1200 is great. I even bought a ridiculous $170 all stainless steel case/bracelet/sapphire crystal mod for the AE-1200 movement. Technically it is the most expensive watch I own, and the original watch is like $20 😂 I am watching this video like a hawk to see if I can counter with "The AE-1200 is just as capable!" Not sure though. :-)
Hello, I just wonder would you reccomend dw5600 over w800h ? I'm having hard time choosing them, thank you.
@wriatband, If you can afford the G-Shock, then that is the way to go as it has more features, like a countdown timer and it definately is tougher as it has more protection. If slightly smaller size is important, then the W800 as it can also take a beating like the video covered. I have a G-shock Rangeman 9400, so I would get the W800 for a smaller size and simplicity.
@@adsagp I see, thank you very much
I still need my G-Shock but I won't use it as a tool watch / beater watch as frequently as the W800H
I just picked one up on Amazon for about $22! Thanks for the review 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
I bought one for my 12 year old son, for yard work I wear the G-shock, my daily wear is luminox. I wear a Citizen out for dinners and weddings ect. I keep the citizens in an open glass case to keep them charged.
The F91W was 16.88 at Walmart but the F105 was on clearance for 10.00
Ash. Having it hold up to the trials and tribulations that a teenage young man can expose it to is the best of all testimonials. These watches have their place and should never be looked down upon. Best regards Ron
W800h will eventually get the f91 legendary status. Got over 50 watches but this is the one keep coming back to. I did change the strap with cheap skmei 1496 strap, which makes its chunky & tougher like gshock.
I really like a digital watch as a daily and I wear a Casio A158W with a stainless fully adjustable strap as I struggle to get a good and comfortable fit with resin straps. My journey into digital was inspired by an excellent quote I read some years back that went something like this:
"Digital watches tell you the exact time. Analogue watches give you an impression of the time." Really made sense to me. Don't be afraid to go digital chaps.
I love the uncluttered simplicity of the A158, the stopwatch is useful, it is very comfortable and the accuracy is better than a second a day. There is also very little chance of being mugged for it.
Casio is about as good as it gets. It stands up there with the true greats of Seiko, Cartier and Panerai!
I have one of these. It can be modded with a soldering gun to have 5 alarms and a countdown timer as well. I'm going to rip it apart on an upcoming video
Bravo! Well done and well said! Great review. I thought I was alone in my passion and pride of owning and also diligently wearing my Casio watches. Casio makes a watch for everything at an affordable price. Looking forward to future review content, my good man.
Going to buy that watch sir. As a member of Bangladesh Army ( Para- Commando Captain) , I need a watch which I can use anywhere, any time.
Currently using a Skmei 1218, which is also a good watch
The buffet at the casino in my town is so good my Casio goes back 4 seconds 🖖
My w 800h Casio watch is 10 years old and still is in good condition
I love this watch but it does have a few flaws. I've owned 2 so far. Both had to have bands replaced within 2 years due to snapping. How my first one met its demise was when my cheap replacement band hardened up and became rigid and the movement of my wrist broke the plastic around the lug on one side. My second one was great until its band also snapped but this time I went and got a really nice replacement band called a bisonstrap which cane be attached and removed with no tools.
As for the watch itself it's great for all the reasons you mentioned but both of mine seemed to somewhat lose their seal after a few years causing condensation under the screen. So far on my current one I have removed and reattached the back cover realigning the rubber gasket to make sure that is still keeping water out. I literally never take this thing off so it goes with me swimming and in the shower and to bed every day. One thing also on my latest one is that after 3 or so months it starts to run a minute slow which is more deviation than previous watches I have owned.
Yes the bands don't last 😢
I also have one of these on my wrist :)
I love the classic Casio.
Great watch that has served me well for six years or so. The battery still works since June 23, 2014, though I don't use it anymore because the cheaper Xiaomi Band 4 surpasses its functionality and offers more accurate time.
I bought this watch on your advice and replaced the strap with one for a Casio AE-1100 on someone else's. Now, inasmuch as I like wearing my solar Casioak, the W-800H is my perfect beater that is function (and price) over form. Thank you!
I remember being arrested by you once, but I can truly say I’m on the straight and narrow now.
I hope our previous meeting was not too unpleasant sir, but there is nothing more valuable than the past, to propel us towards a better future. I hope your future is bright.
@@TheChapsGuide yes, sir! my passed has certainly propelled me into a better future, I would say things are absolutely fine in life thus far.
Great Watch! I own 2 of them. If you search for an new strap, the straps for the Casio AE 1200 (Casio Royale) are compatible to the W 800. Merry Christmas to all of you, greetings from Germany
Thanks for the info!
The gentleman’s gazette recently uploaded something like the top 47 watch brands.
Sadly they didn’t include Casio. I think Casio has a place and belongs in any list
Top tier digital watch with a great display which shows the current time in all modes. I would gladly pay 50-60 bucks if they turned it into a G-Shock and it came with the extra 5 alarms and CDT unlocked.
Skmei did a clone of the W-96h, if you liked this one, you should give that one a try.
Good review/update, thank you 👍🏻
That was a classy presentation of a classy beast 👍
Excellent presentation!
Thank you kindly!
I work at the docks and I’ve just bought one of these little fellas as my daily beater. Sounds like it’ll do the job well.
I think you called it seiko w800 at one point....Great video...have one same years as yours and still running...keep rockin!
I own two G-Shock series Casio's as my everyday wear... BOMB proof items!! Love them so much that I bought an all chrome dress watch from them (model MTP-1192A-7A). I can also recommend the Pulsar brand PF8373 men's sports chronograph model also.
A chaps watch for doing brakes and timing belt jobs. Some would say a datejust can do the same thing, and rightly so.
I always shudder when I see Iain Tyrell (‘the Ferrari whisperer’) tune a V12 whilst wearing his Rolex Sub…….but, it is a tool watch, not something to stare at!
My old casios are replaceable but now that they are getting older they have sentimental value.
I bought a skmei recently just for workout..... Good watches too. Half price as a casio and decent features. The countdown timer doesn't have auto repeat and only one alarm.
I'm spoiled by my f201 and tide graph casios
Love to see egos to be put aside and common sense taking the front seat. Best watch.
I have been having mine for more than 5 years and I agree with all you said, I fully recommended
I just picked up The Casio F91W £10.99 Argos,
Brought it to wear when bicycling , of the mountain variety.
I don’t want to damage by Swiss automatic watches.

Ash I mean this after 15 years on this platform. You have oddly the most satisfying content. You and Mr.Smelly77. Both brits with good style one with military background the other a drunk! 😂
Thank you sir. Much appreciated.
It's a brilliant daily driver.
the 10 year battery alome is worth half the price of the timepiece
Thanks BAC!!! Greatly appreciate your encouragement and knowledge! 😎👊💥💪
Ive got that watch! Its fantastic! I have quite a collection of gshocks and analogue watches, one of which is a tag heuer aquaracer, but there something about good value back to basic cheap casio digital watch that really appeals to me. Great video buddy 👍
I have this watch bought more than 10 years ago... watch still working with original battery... it's the strap that did not last despite rarely used. I used it only during international travels which happen once or twice a year.
Long Time Casio W-800H was my almost favorite.
But couple week ago I purchased Casio W96H-3AV. Extremely Advised - this some like re-think W-800H idea.
AE-1500WH-1AVDF. Try this one
Was eyeing this up last year as a work beater, but got a decent deal on a Square DW5600.
Put bull bars on it and much like this, just a wear and forget piece.
Get your son upgraded to a Tough Solar. 😉✌🏼
Another great Casio for $20 is the “Casio Royale”. It is unique, great features, great display, one of a kind watch.
It's a great watch - always wear it to swim, play basketball, workout, go to the movies (for the quick, light lume), go to an amusement park, etc. Comfortable, light, reliable, perfect amount of lume to quickly check time, and when exercises the stop watch still having the time on the screen is great.
Just a shame the straps don't last. Recently bought a new one, but kept the old one in the hope I can find a way to replace the strap. Any ideas where I can find a new compatible strap? Best watch I've ever had.
Yes straps not always gud
Casio watches are basically great
What an interesting dad he is. His son is so lucky.
I saw someone mod this watch with soldering iron, and made it so that it could have a timer and 5 alarms.
Just look for the video entitled: RISKY Casio W800H Mod Attempt. Can I UNLOCK SECRETS?
Fantastic little work horse 🧐👍
"not a problem a toll" 😂I love your accent
I did not know I needed this watch until I watched your video 😂. Headed from here right to Amazon.
Lol
I one of this bought used from ebay 6 euros and used for three years to accompany my dive computer in a regular diving teaching in Egypt even in 40 m recreational deep dives till someone stole it because I left hang on my dive jacket while resting. Now I teach no more but I have another one.
Bear in mind sometimes you must check the time with only one hand free and that's why better is citizen radio control with glow on its hands.
A simple true tool watch provided by tech.
Starlight
I got the blacked out version for 39$ Canadian.
I wish it had a blue, not green reverse display. I really like it.
Casıo herkesin ulaşabileceği bir efsanedir
It's the perfect work watch and it fits so well under the sleeve of my jacket... If it gets broken just buy another.😊
Totally agree!
Good evening Ash, Chaps
A watch review I can engage with :O
CASIO quality counts :D
I too have a Casio, a DW-610 G Shock (about £10 tax free).
Sadly in the 26 years (Bought in Bosnia in '97) I've owned it, it has seen some action and is currently unwearable.
It is a bit of a "Trigger's broom" to be fair. Several straps, batteries and a new bezel have been required.
It has been abused across several countries and continents and a full range of climates and activities. From general wear in Bosnia and UK to Field work and Urban operations in Cyprus and Canada, let alone D2D wear. It performed impeccably throughout. Sadly now though, I am unable to acquire a new bezel, but the watch is still going strong, although "naked"
These days I rely on my Garmin. Were I to venture "away" again, I would go straight for a CASIO once more, if for no other reason than battery life.
I look forward to a return to Oak Lodge videos as Autumn progresses into winter.
*salutes
I totally agree. It's one of the best watches, but way too small for my wrist
currently wearing a version of this watch, i like the dual time (also modded for a cdt and additional alarms)
The W-800H-1BVCF (black-out)
is easy to read even with the negative display
I really like the big day of the week
Great watch
I have the same... beautiful watch
Great review. Love my Casio watches, I own several.
I subscribed to your channel because of your elegant accent.
I am a watch enthusiast also. I don't own this model but I do have a lot of Casio watches and several are in this budget digital class and I find every word of this review to be accurate. Great everyday watches that will never let you down.
Brilliant and most informative presentation.
Glad you liked it!
16:36 Your Rolex outer ring also works as a timer.
Looking forward to the next “am I a chap” vid
I own one. It's amazing
Great video. Love the Real world test of the watch! I have the same watch and use for my gym&pool workouts so can't agree more. But I also have a 1016 which i have put under similar duress and have actually worn it playing hockey many times (dont ask me why)... always on a perlon... and have done mud runs , ocean/pool swims and more...Acrylic cystal & polywatch give me the piece of mind i need ... dont think the modern Rolexes would be as capable....A 1016 and a W800 ...why would you need another watch??.. Keep up the great videos!
Another thing to remember about the W800 is that a simple mod will add a countdown timer...which i use all the time when doing my gym workouts... :)
Hello Sir. Its a nice looking Casio watch. I've always wore Casio watch. Its my favourite.
Excellent!
Fantastic video, thank you!
Casio is okay at the price point. (But what I'd be interested to see is Ash's thoughts about this new Pelagos FXD in black that Tudor have just released.🙃)
I was all excited about the new Tudor release and was all ready to make a response video on the day of release. I could not have been more crestfallen to see it was yet another Pelly. I get the sense that they have milked this model dry at this point and there is nowhere left to go now with the Pelagos range. I like the black option, in fact, I prefer it to the blue, but the fixed bars and size take it off my table of interest. I prefer bracelets and go for watches 40mm or less these days, so the Pelly 39 is the only unit on my radar. I just wish Tudor would direct their attention away from dive watches and get innovative with some of their heritage collection.
@@TheChapsGuide Size is such an individual thing. I know 42mm is big for a lot of guys - but it's pretty ideal for me. I bought the Marine Nationale FXD a couple of weeks back (I noticed one in unworn condition and stickered up, for sale on Watchfinder for about 200 quid over retail, and I just couldn't resist!) The 42mm is great on my wrist - looking down it leaves about a centimeter between the top of the lugs and he edges of my wrists on either side.
It's set to SIGNAL ,
which is an hourly chime.
Hi Ash, 👋 I have a small collection of valuable watches. In order to keep them in mint condition they are worn only under clean, dry, non rigorous conditions. For the past 20 years my Casio Wave Ceptor has been my harsh conditions watch. As are all Casios it's indestructible, has a 5 year battery and keeps perfect time. This particular model has a timer, stopwatch, alarm clock, world time and, get this, calibrates itself every 24hrs. via satellite to GMT perfection. All of it for less than $40. If gets lost or stolen who cares? I've had to buy only two over all these years. My first one l left in a hotel. My second is going on 12 years. There are a lot more beautiful timepieces out there, but none can do a better job than my humble Casio. If only they made one that looks like my Omega. Pity.
So glad your lad loves his scouts and hockey, as player for many years, but i think you use a hockey stick, rather than a bat
Great piece, but those long straps kill the whole thing..
How come the strap held up so nice like that? I had to replace on two of these I bought after 2-3 years.
The strap has since given up the ghost. The buckle busted. I have it on a NATO now.
Greetings Ash:
It is often noted in your videos that you are something of armature horologist. I appreciate your knowledge of watches and I notice your interest in high end watches. I am curious of your opinion of the following. An important well dress man is interviewing employees for a promotion. (it would not be you since we are seeking a different perspective) Two very close candidates are in consideration. He notices one is wearing a high end watch, the other is wearing the Casio you are discussing. How would this be perceived in the world of the Chap?
Thanks, best wishes to you and your family.
That is a really challenging situation - the obvious answer is never to be so shallow as to judge someone by their watch - you should dig deeper and assess the person and not their possessions - but in the spirit of your question, I think the wearer of the higher end watch would chime with me, as I have an interest in that area of life. It would not win me over towards them (I am not really that shallow), but it does give them a slight advantage in my subconscious.
I have a good friend who has this very Casio, and a Tudor BB58. Depending on under which circumstances you might meet him, he could be wearing either……what then? Judge a person not by their watch, but by their demeanour. If they happen to be wearing a nice watch, and have a great demeanour, then you’ll be proven correct in your assessment!
10 yr battery is amazing
Automatic watches are pieces of art. But the quartz watch is something inevitable. What they deliver for what they costs.... there´s nothing like that.
What is the difference between w800h-1avdf and w800hg-9avdf?
My W-800H is far from the most capable. From al my digital watches (I have 7), this is the one that is the least accurate. I have to correct the time about once a week.
How much time does it lose or gain. Mine loses about 7 seconds a month.
@@LTLT900 About the same. Much more than my other Casio's.
