A comment on the water resistance of the F-91w:
I have tested all of my Casio watches in a pool for an extensive period (an F-91w, an F-84w, a CA-53w, and an A700), and ALL OF THEM as it turns out are waterproof, not just splash resistant. They all functioned submerged without trouble, and even operation of the pushers (against Casio's recommendation) caused no trouble. I even did a math equation on the CA-53w while underwater!
Casio is notorious for under rating their aquatic performance.

    • @lobsterbark
      @lobsterbark 2 роки тому +54

I imagine this is because the buttons can wear out and lose their waterproofness. If you use the buttons a lot there would be the risk that could happen. Japanese companies tend to be very careful about making promises if they can be false under somewhat unlikely circumstances. Even if those promises would be true 99% of the time.

Yesterday I picked one up on clearance at a big box store for $7. I was going to clean them out, but I saw a couple kids looking at them as well, so I left a few for them. I've got a decent (14) collection of G-Shocks, an Oceanus T-2610, and a variety of of other Casio's. So I am a bit of a Casio fan, but this one somehow slipped under my radar. I am really liking this watch. It's very legible and comfortable. And it just looks really cool.

I recently took a road trip on my motorcycle and took 4 of my watches with me (Orient Ray 2, Bambino V2, Seiko SRPE43 and Casio Royale World Timer). I spent so much time worrying about the safety of my watches that I couldn't enjoy most of it. I made a mistake. Silver lining? I wore the Casio the most. Thanks for your review. I ended up getting this same model with the bracelet. I like it, have done a small mod to remove the "world time and illuminator" from the bezel, did it with a rubber eraser, looks a bit more classy now. I think I'll remove the module and take the "10 Year Battery and 5 Alarms" off to the make it less cluttered. I bought a screen protector with it. It doesn't really pill my arm hairs like I expected it to. The functions are great, I use all.of them. I'm happy with this purchase. Your review helped me decide to get it, thanks.

I really enjoyed your review. It was a change from other typical watch reviews which are all about the materials, movements, and size. Yours seemed to feature how the watch exists in the "environment", which was interesting. Though having said that, I would have liked to know a bit about the sizing, e.g., fit on the wrist (under a shirt), and the ability to see the display (Too small? or Large enough to see easily). But then that would be a typical review. :)

Thank you for the interesting review, couldn't agree more as I personally use one as a tool watch being a cabin crew. One of the pilots had one too on my last flight which goes to show it is appreciated by all travelers and flight and cabin crews. One do it all watch that could be perfected if radio controlled and solar powered but it would probably kill the cost advantage and 10 year of battery life allows for a lot of travelling without caring too much about you battery dying.

Bc of you I bought Casio Royale, and the Timex expedition scout. Your videos realy help me a lot of choosing what to buy. But here in europe the watches where way more expensive. For the casio i paid 35$ and for the timex around 70$... Timex is my first watch was overpriced, but i love that watch!! Thanks for the reviews!!

One concern you didn't seem to mention is the potential when hoisting shoulder straps over your shoulder, and other travel related activities, of snagging your watch and having the strap come loose, which usually leads to your watching hitting the floor hard, and maybe being lost. When I travel I wear an orange Seiko SKX-007 on a fabric NATO strap. That way if one pin gets bent and comes out of socket, the watch remains on my wrist.
Regarding travelling with a watch-icon, I once greeted some hikers in the Great Smokey Mountain national park and noticed one of them, a senior citizen, had on a Rolex submariner. I mentioned it before our brief conversation ended. (I always take a break to talk to passersby on the trails). He said he wore it all the time, never took it off. It was a very expensive TOOL watch, and I guess he justified owning it by always wearing it. I was just a little surprised he didn't have a sacrificial watch to wear in the back-country like that. My tool-watch is a Hamilton Khaki.

I wore that Casio F-91W on a half-way around the world trip for some of the same reasons you mentioned and it did its job, nothing bad happened. Nobody stared. And I actually didn't know about its Osama connection, other people probably didn't know either or don't care.

It’s a great watch. The small size takes some getting used to, but it’s so practical.

@@misterlove6225 The watch forum guys love to tell people that regular people will get detained for wearing an F-91W watch for no reason.

I never thought I would wear 2 watches but I an pretty tactical. I wear a $40 Amazfit Bio S on my left wrist and a Casio World Time bronze gold on my right wrist. The Amazfit Bip S has watch faces that are made like Casio World Time.

After he said 'demonstration' at 6:17 and showing a tree and some grass, was half-expecting him to fling some of those watches at the tree!

After nearly a year of hearing the hype about this watch from online watch communities, I finally purchased the Casio Royale. I have to say, I love it. It's aesthetically pleasing, and as someone who travels often, this watch is a must-have. Personally, I always travel with the Vostok Amphibia Scuba Dude. While that watch is affordable, the only downside is that if I were to lose it, it would be difficult to replace due to long shipping times from Russia to the EU. The Casio Royale, on the other hand, is easy to replace and also reasonably priced.
Here's a fun fact about the James Bond connection with this watch: Roger Moore wore a Seiko in the film Octopussy, and the case and overall design of the Seiko are similar to the Casio Royale. I agree with the concept that if James Bond were a real-life secret agent, he would go for the Casio Royale over an Omega or Rolex.

Not to be rude at all but... what do you do? It’s really interesting that you’ve travelled a lot, and to unique places. You busted out the metal detector and I was like “who is this guy???” Hahaha. I agree with other people here, you have the most interesting and thoughtful takes on watches in your reviews. I actually like the longer format for this reason too. Thanks for the content, and keep posting please!

I have been upgraded twice and on both occasions I looked like someone who just ventured out of the jungle. The second time I showed up wearing trekking boots, trekking pants (that can be unzipped and turned into shorts) an old t-shirt and my army issued sleeping bag as hand luggage. I got to ride home on business class. I guess they are mostly going to upgrade you if you are travelling solo.
