    In Poteau there is a little museum. But the great part there is, for 20€, you can ride along in a 251, a route along old battlefield remains. Really cool

    Last summer I went on holiday in the Ardennes for a week in Vielsalm. I have visited most of the museums featured in the video here. many of the museums in the Ardennes are not open every day, so it is important to check this in advance. There are also many things to visit outside the museums, in several villages there are tanks and artillery along the road as a memorial.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this video especially seeing the different museums and the weapons and armor on display. Thank you for the time and effort to highlight the good points of the museums and which ones anyone can pass on seeing.

    Nice listing of museums. I thoroughly enjoy studying the Ardennes offensive. One of my absolute favorite WW II battles. In my opinion, for some of these museums need to provide more information on the displays and also historical footage would help facilitate visitor experience.

      Sometimes museum make the choice, to go for a more clean look then overly placing everything full of pictures and information.

    Great video, very informative 👍 IMHO Bastogne barracks is well worth a visit and good value for money. The tour took about 3 hours & the guides are very funny (serving soldiers iirc). He kept my 8 year old son amused with his stories and soldier humour.

I heard La Gleize King Tiger destroyed 147 Shermans and hold Patton's entire army for 2 months, until they drop a nuke from a B-29 on top of it, and it only broke one track and tank was abandoned shortly after. They found the crew drinking beer in the local pub 3 years after the war ended. The pub become the museum. True story!

      Went to baugnez historical center in the 3rd week of november 2022 and some of the breathtaking dioramas that i saw on the internet searching for the adress were not lit on my visit i found this very sad as we pinda paid enough to see nice diorama's i can understand the price of electricity but putting a button that turns the lights on for as long as it's pressed or someone of the museum actionning the lights when people approach it...

  • @barryolaith

    Thanks for that, very useful. Regarding 4:50, I'm one of those people who wants to know that an artifact I am looking at is real. Otherwise, I can just go to Las Vegas and see everything from the Pyramids to the Eiffel Tower. So, all those pristine-looking, strong-coloured SS camouflage uniforms in dioramas, are they mostly fake, i.e. reproductions?

    • @PanzerPicture
      @PanzerPicture  Рік тому

      I always think most of it is fake, but for the older museums, it probably is all real, but over the years I think that a lot will be replaced just because of conservation.

    • @barryolaith
      @barryolaith Рік тому +1

      @@PanzerPicture Thanks for your explanation, I'll keep that in mind when looking at uniforms and 'kit', at least in dioramas and maybe on individual mannequins. It's a pity, really. It would be more acceptable if the museum made it clear which items are genuine and which are not.
