  • On December 16th, 1944, over 240,000 men grouped into three German armies, secretly assembled in the Ardennes region, launched an operation code-named Wacht Am Rhein against American forces, which held a thin line in this quiet sector of the Western Front known as a Ghost Front. This operation would be the last major offensive action in the west, better known as the Battle of Bulge.
The area around the region's main road and rail junction, the small town of Bastogne, would soon become the epicenter of the desperate battle.

My grandfather went missing in the battle of the bulge. I hope someone buried him on a Belgium farm and he is at peace. It is so hard when a soldier just dissapears. So many questions and no answers.
As I watch I think to myself is that him? or is it him?

I think you meant "peace", but yes, let us hope that he is in a good resting place.

The battle of the Bulge was fought in Belgium..not France.

I'll consider all the options, but I assure you that this AI voice has better pronunciation than I do.

@@FromtheBattlefields Ya I get it, but many would rather hear a real voice struggle somewhat than an AI voice. It just pains me that your channel is not growing as fast as I thought it would or should. I think the only missing piece is a human narration. Either way, great work here it is appreciated!

Monty should have been brought to a court Marshall. He was responsible for thousands of deaths.

I couldn't agree more. Particularly with Market Garden which totally fell on his face on the British side. XXX corp dropped the ball on the route to Nijmegen and Arnhem. I mean for Christ's sake they had to stop for tea everyday when speed was everything in that operation. Monty hung the 101st and 82nd out to die along with thousands of British troops and Canadian troops. Market Garden was Monte's folly.

@@Whatisthisstupidfinghandle It is said : "after the destruction of the German army in France during the summer" . It didn't append, Walter Model retreat from France was successful enough, I quote Joachim Ludewig : "the German armed forces were able to consolidate their defensive line in September 1944 “only because "the Allies were not prepared [or able] to exploit the opportunities that arose during August and September 1944". This explains the ability of the Germans to later conduct the Ardennes offensive.

I was referring to the Falaise pocket and the breakout from Normandy, not the withdrawal of the 15th Army and other units from France.

@@FromtheBattlefields Yes, that was my understanding. Rather than inaccurate, I should have said ambiguous. To me at least. I greatly appreciate your work BTW, even if, to me again, the "juicy" part of WW2 History is more about politic than military.
