I remember 10 years ago, my 30-year-old uncle married a 20-something chick. He paid her tuition through school and helped her get a job using his connections. Guess what? She cheated and divorced him, and he had to sell his house and car and give her half. She was 22 or 23 already with 500k in the bank and no debt. The dream is real.

Yes, it's always amazing in the beginning, but after awhile, it gets old and boring, and there is a very good chance of divorce, and if there is kids involved, it makes things way worse. The problem with our society is that we don't take that contract seriously. A big reason why I am hesitant about marriage is because I saw what my father went through. My mother and my sister did no treat my father with the respect he deserved. And his second wife cleaned him out in the divorce. He lost his house and most of his retirement money. He had to go back to work in his 70s. This was a man who served his country in Vietnam and worked his ass off his whole life. Heaven only knows how many lives he saved in Vietnam with his skills as a doctor. As his son I tried to help him as much as possible in his final years but he was very proud. He died sad and alone and living in squalor. That man deserved better.

I'm 42 years old, never married, no children. I'm able to accomplish all of my lifetime goals by being single. No alimony, no drama, no child support, don't have to worry about losing everything I have. By being single, I'm even able to save a lot of money for my retirement, enjoy my freedom. No it does not worry me. But it is sweet when they do. I have had boyfriends that were alpha male types where I was submissive and would seek out THEIR approval. But in my experience those type guys are closed off and unwilling to open up. In fear they might come across as weak, perhaps? In my current relationship I would say I have the upper hand. My parents didn’t get married. They agreed to not get married so if anything bad happens they can just walk away. Over 35 years and they’re still together and never split up once. Both my dad’s brothers got divorced. And 4 of my mom’s brothers and sisters got divorced with many of their children also getting divorced.
I'll be 60 in August and have never been married. Retired four years ago, comfortably and 100% voluntarily. Can't imagine being able to do that had I let some female saddle me with debt (bad) and kids (worse). Haven't regretted my Life Choices in this manner for as much as a fraction of a second. I've been single most of my life and single now. At 52 I was semi-retired. At 53 I paid my mortgage off. I want for nothing and have everything I've ever wanted. I like my own company and have no understanding of what lonely is. I do whatever I want when ever I want. No one nags me or tells me what to do. I'm due to retire at 55. All around me I see unhappy married couples. I see men who don't want to go home to their wives and do as much overtime as possible. Timeless advice. I am so glad my ex, who was the one who proposed to *me* , broke up with me. I would have been so miserable with her, but luckily I had zero tolerance for her toxic two-faced behavior, and she didn't like me standing up for myself very much (it hurt her fragile feelings). It's been over a year since my breakup and I've never been happier. There was no way I could have become the man I wanted to become with her by my side. She would have held me back from living a fulfilling and peaceful life.

My uncle is trapped in a miserable marriage to a crazy, bipolar woman. He complained about it every day to my grandmother until she literally died a year ago. I'm 19 (2024), My parents are in constant fight and suffering all the time for my future, for my younger sister's future, clashes between families and relatives, constantly worrying about the future and not living a happy present, these all made me stay away from them. A constant struggle, suffering, sad and miserable life of theirs really made me sure to not marry in life. I was in uniform law enforcement for 27 years; I saw a lot of divorce. I can't think of one case where the husband came out on the good end of the stick, even if it was the wife who instigated the divorce (sometimes stemming from an affair she had). Three committed suicide due to the pending divorce. California laws are sooo slanted in favor of the wife despite the fact that they (legislature and governors) want to praise women just for being women and "raise them up". I'm 59 and I've never had any interest in marriage.

A big reason why I am hesitant about marriage is because I saw what my father went through. My mother and my sister did no treat my father with the respect he deserved.
And his second wife cleaned him out in the divorce. He lost his house and most of his retirement money. He had to go back to work in his 70s.
This was a man who served his country in Vietnam and worked his ass off his whole life. Heaven only knows how many lives he saved in Vietnam with his skills as a doctor.
As his son I tried to help him as much as possible in his final years but he was very proud.
He died sad and alone and living in squalor.
That man deserved better.

I’m 37 years old, never married, no kids. I always ask guys who’re married if they’re happy and if I should go that route. They ALWAYS reply, without hesitation, “Don’t ever get married!” The reason they usually give is the woman loses her mind eventually and thinks the man should solely exist to provide her support and comfort. I'll be 60 in August and have never been married. Retired four years ago, comfortably and 100% voluntarily. Can't imagine being able to do that had I let some female saddle me with debt (bad) and kids (worse). Haven't regretted my Life Choices in this manner for as much as a fraction of a second.

I would have been so miserable with her, but luckily I had zero tolerance for her toxic two-faced behavior, and she didn't like me standing up for myself very much (it hurt her fragile feelings). It's been over a year since my breakup and I've never been happier. There was no way I could have become the man I wanted to become with her by my side. She would have held me back from living a fulfilling and peaceful life.

My parents are in constant fight and suffering all the time for my future, for my younger sister's future, clashes between families and relatives, constantly worrying about the future and not living a happy present, these all made me stay away from them.
A constant struggle, suffering, sad and miserable life of theirs really made me sure to not marry in life. And even all my neighbours are in constant conflict with their wives husbands with other neighbours really pissed off my soul, I just wanted to get away from these people I'm tired of my parents,my relatives, my neighbours really.

I was in uniform law enforcement for 27 years; I saw a lot of divorce. I can't think of one case where the husband came out on the good end of the stick, even if it was the wife who instigated the divorce (sometimes stemming from an affair she had). Three committed suicide due to the pending divorce. California laws are sooo slanted in favor of the wife despite the fact that they (legislature and governors) want to praise women just for being women and "raise them up". I'm 59 and I've never had any interest in marriage.
