My wife just left me after 17 years. Just decided she didn’t want to be married anymore. The nightmare of dealing with the legal system will soon begin. Division of assets, child support, custody. And all I did was work 2 jobs for the last 10 years to make sure we could be middle class. What a shmuck I was.
Jeremy King feel you there bud, it’s pretty nuts when you think about it. It’s important to never give your heart to a woman as she won’t respect that, you must be resilient enough to keep your heart for you and always grow to improve yourself (and if you got them, your kids). Take care bro, it’s rough right after divorce but you can get through it in time. Keeping busy with your work and exercise will help a lot too
Stay strong. Get some good advise. Document everything you can that shows you are a good father. Get through it and walk away from women. Don't go back
And I bet you if someone had advised you not to marry her at the time, you'ld have thought you knew better😂; I don't feel sorry formen who get married anymore; I think you're an idiot and I hope she ruins you.
Joe was talking about Tom Arnold, but there have been other men who came out like Roses. The hot blond (forgot her name) who was hosting GMA for decades got divorced and her husband got a treasure chest . . . so there is a guy who got a hot woman and her money . . . I forget his name but he is a God to me.
Mister Tropical Here’s the part guys like this ALWAYS overlook that happens a LOT: the classic story of the woman loyally financially supporting her husband through the lean years in his profession (med school, law school, aspiring actor/comedian/musician), and when he finally hits the jackpot, he starts screwing younger women, often giving the wife an STD. Fuck yeah, she deserves compensation for that shit. The minute a guy has real money, he thinks he can be unfaithful with no repercussions. Also, the alimony laws are meant to compensate the woman for the years and years she spent OUT of the job market, because she was home raising their kids and usually catering to the man also, while he worked. So let’s say he starts banging his secretary and completely devastates the wife emotionally and VIOLATES his marriage vows, she wants a divorce.... and now she has no current job skills and has yeeeeeeaaars out of the job market. Alimony evens the playing field for women. That’s how those laws came to be.
@@hardworker5588 The only man I can think of is Kevin Federline who was married to Britney Spears. In most cases (over 75% of cases) men are screwed financially when it comes to divorce nowadays though.
@@punanny123 --- I bet the number is higher than 75%. The unspoken truth is that laws are written to protect women . . . which destroys the notion that America is a nation that hates women and wants a handmades-tale society. It's the opposite of that. America hates men, and wants to shet all over them every second. The USA is a matriarchy and has been for 50 years. Which happens to coincide with our downfall as a nation.

Probably because marriage is hard... kind of like a teacher telling you not to bother going to college... it's not for everyone, and it's a huge cash grab.
Married guy here... Women marry men hoping they will change, but they don't. Men marry women hoping they will never change, but they do. To all single guys beware, once you sign the paper they change; they will slowly start morphing from a nice fun sweet cute little girl you fell in love with, to a nagging angry monster.
I’m not totally against the idea of marriage just yet I’m only 22, but the best advice I’ve ever heard in my life was what my mum said to me. She said “if you meet a girl that wants an expensive, over the top wedding then she’s not worth marrying, the wedding cost is the start of all the money she’ll take from you”.
I had a friend who would harp on and on about how great marriage was, because you "wake up every morning staring at the person you love more than anything"! He inspired me....to install a mirror in my bedroom!

I tell men, especially if they're in their 20s, that they should save money and visit a third world country with no hint or the barest hint of Feminism there. They should also have basic skills that will be of use anywhere (carpentry and similar, auto mechanic, and be able to cook) so that they can go anywhere and be useful to themselves/their new home. They're scouting areas to live and once they find a place they like, they're done with the West. They can find a woman there, marry, have kids, and never go back home.

@Thanos well, do you prefer things don’t change? Because that’s what you’re doing when you discourage young girls from understanding and empathizing with men. At the end of the day there are selfish and bad humans they come in all genders and we shouldn’t give them leeway to take advantage of others.
It's also amazing how quickly a lot of men get to abandon their kids now that they are 'free.' Not all divorces happen because of a woman's whim, lots of times there are solid resons to their demands, and not all women are trying to scam men.
Rosa Del Rio Not suggesting for a second that all women are scammers but unfortunately those that are (and lets face it there are a few) ruin it for those who are who have a legitimate reason to seek support. Women can be vindictive which leads to men paying for their lives (I do not mean where children are involved) and that’s where I think if women want equal rights they shouldn’t be looking to a man to provide it for them.
@@ashfield1425 solid point. I think people don't look deeply into the reasons/logic behind traditional "gender roles" and understand there is a difference between equality and the literal same. Men risk a modern day men risk a woman leaving them and recieving alimony (assuming he makes more). Women risk staying home to raise kids and then getting divorced and having no employable skillset to take care of herself because she's been out the workforce for 10 yrs. Everyone runs a risk in marriage.
Staci Hilliard Totally agree. My only caveat to this is where there are no children involved. Why should a man or woman pay after divorce pay to keep an individual in a style to which they have become accustomed. That does not speak equality to me. Go and get a job and support themselves like everyone else. That’s just my thinking.
Well marriage isn’t supposed to be about the government, the government just makes it about them. Marriage should be about commitment and love (not just the emotional form of love) and honoring God
When families could survive on one salary and men were the bread winners of a family, a woman who had no training or education was thrown into poverty when a marriage ended. The problem was compounded when they they ended up with the kids and men didn't pay child support. They set up a system to stop that and hasn't adapted to our new reality of working women.

Maria Harmon you can find a “side kick” without getting married. Women are constantly having the concept of marriage shoved down their throats and also this fantasy where they will find a guy, get married, and live happily ever after. Its all a farce. Women initiate over 70% of divorces and then win custody of children the majority of the time, receive child support, alimony, and other assets. @Lillel So we're just back to questioning why most men should marry at all. Since you can't know if a woman is going to screw you over in divorce, the solution is to just not get married or hold out for that extremely rare case where a wealthier woman will even give you the time of day. You don't really know what a person is capable of until you are in a situation like divorce. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

You see the most cruel nature of people come out. It’s why I don’t practice there. The laws need to change as people don’t live to 65 years old anymore and game the system so you your ex wife lives with her lover and has you pay for her him and trips to Puerto Rico where her lover bangs her on your dime. An attorney who doesn’t get his client the most money.... doesn’t get future cases.

Marriage is commitment to not only each other but to all the mistakes, pitfalls and potential windfalls you will absolutely have together over time. Some people love the IDEA of marriage. But the reality of it, not so much. If you go into it with the mindset that money is more important than why you even wanted to enter into it in the first place, then my advice is, DON'T do it. And here's the thing. Only people that have a great deal of money going into a commitment of marriage (both men AND women) use THAT as the foundation of whether their marriage may or may not be successful, that's why they feel the need for prenups. If money is the central focus, it's doomed from day one. On the flip side of that, when you don't have a great deal of money from the beginning, THAT isn't the central focus. So TOGETHER you build the life you want with each other. Money and people's greed for it, mixed with their egos is why most marriages fail.
Fine, understandable, but what exactly is the purpose for the marriage to be legally binding and recorded? Why not just do a church wedding and leave it at that? There is absolutely no reason for anyone to be legally married.
Best comment ❤. The foundation of many marriages these days is completely off, and certain discussions are not being had way before you walk down the aisle. So many mistakes happen even before saying “I do”.
I love the part when Joe counters Bill rationalizing the meaning of a marriage certificate by giving him the guilt trip speech “don’t you love me?” 💀 😂

The hardest part for me was not the money. It's finding out that the most important person in your life is not who you thought she was and the sense of betrayal that comes with the knowledge that she has been working with an attorney behind your back to set you up. I also lost my sense of fatherhood since the law gives the mother, by far, the largest part of parenting. Even though (especially with girls) the father is the one that validates the childs existence. My relationship with my daughter has never recovered. And, yes, walking into the room with the attorneys I felt like this was going to be an extended prostate exam.
Marriage is much more than a contract. That is what civil unions are for. Your view of marriage seems to be infirmary by the current culture, which is highly self referential to narcissistic. Marriage can be a beautiful life long relationship.
@@matthewwysocki5019 Can be but the reality demonstrates something else. What you describe, an equal partnership is as rare as hen's teeth. Usually one person is dominant and the other subservient.
@@billgreen576 This view of marriage seems to assume a power struggle for dominance, which does occur among people who tend to be more self referential. My view assumes a love that empowers roles that are mutually beneficial. This Love is not absent of frustration or conflict but embraces it as part of the journey. I am in my 60’s and have many friends who have been married for 30-40 years. They appear to be happy and fulfilled. When we gather for meals following church services, their is laughter and joy, pain and sorrow, grief and triumph. We seem to share three common attitudes. 1. Is a shared belief in ultimate purpose. 2. A restraint against hurling insults when conflicts arise. 3. An Vested interest in harmonic resolution that honours and builds up rather than tears down. Do we manage this perfectly, obviously not. We are human and by nature flawed. However, we don’t give ourselves an excuse. When we are wronged, we forgive as we have been forgiven. It’s not magic or a mysterious. It is simply a value based commitment to each other. It’s more common than you think. Maybe it’s time to find a different reference point.
As a woman, I will tell you, divorce is soooo biased against the men. It's disgusting!! Why in the world should men continue to pay women long after they are divorced? It's insanity. I tell ALL of my male friends, don't EVER get married. All it is, is a financial contract.

Man, I'm 22 and I feel the same way. Got engaged to my high school sweetheart after 3 years. 6 months before the wedding she completely changed. She started leaving the house at odd times and turning her phone off and staying the night at "friends" houses 5 out of 7 days of the week. Well, found out she was sleeping with some dirt bag that had looked like Trevor from GTA 5. So one night while she was away, I packed up all of her stuff and left in in her parking spot. Sent her a text with all the screenshots her friend sent me, told her that I just canceled the wedding, and for her to put the keys to the car in my mailbox or it will be reported stolen since it was 100% in my name. Next morning when I got up, no replies to my message. But her stuff was gone and the car was in the parking space.
You dodged a bullet. She was going to marry you and then be a good girl because she married a good man. The crazy part is the other guy probably never took her out on a date. He did nothing to get her sex.

I'm a woman and I agree there is something wrong with alimony. Maybe it's because I've always been financially independent and low maintenance, but I had no desire to go after my last 2 relationships for money I could have gotten. I made the fatal error of proposing marriage after 3 months. Stupid. After the divorce (Surprise!), I made a pact with myself to date a woman for at least 3 years before considering marriage. Here I am 28 years later (retired and happy) and not one woman made the cut. You guys know the drill...she can be super-sweet and sexy those first 3 to 6 months. You think you hit the lottery. However, if you have the discipline to wait and watch, her true self will eventually emerge and you'll be asking yourself two questions; (1.) "Where's the woman I fell in love with, cause this ain't her." And the more painful question, (2.) "Did she really exist in the first place, or was it just an act?" Answering #2 honestly can save your life.

@@MrSidney9 I discussed this with my mother years ago. She said most priests will ask for the marriage license. I was and am thoroughly against that. Apparently it can be done, but there's the issue of children. As a man, you're not automatically tied to any children you have even if your biologically tied to them.

Even child support has become the new alimony, because child support is not based on the child’s needs, but it’s based on how much the man makes.
well for a man who makes very little money that's a good thing though.
I’m a Woman so I can say this. It’s amazing how quickly women wanting equality with men disappears during divorce.
EXACTLY!
It's also amazing how quickly a lot of men get to abandon their kids now that they are 'free.'
Not all divorces happen because of a woman's whim, lots of times there are solid resons to their demands, and not all women are trying to scam men.
I've been married 47 years. I have seen so much change with regard to how other people view marriage today.
It wouldn't fail if the woman didn't feel entitled to half of all the assets. The laws are the first problem, we can work out the rest later.
1000%, keep in mind women are, by their own admission, initiating 80% of all divorces.

What amazes me most is when someone gets divorced, fails to learn any lessons from it, and goes out and gets married AGAIN!!! That's just nuttier than a fruitcake. When I hear of someone on their 3rd or 4th marriage, my head just spins around in circles.
What's even more amazing is that they treat that as a badge of honor and a sign of maturity!

To me, the concept of throwing away 20 grand on a special ceremony just for the purpose of saying 'I really, really love you' has always made me think that perhaps this isn't the most secure of relationships...
Blame Disney for that.
Not to mention saying "until death do us part" when everyone knows that it is an outright lie unenforceable in the courts.

Term limit contract doesn't matter. You will still have to deal with the exit drama shit show. That's the number 1 reason to avoid signing the contract. There won't be the exit drama if there was no entrance in the first place.

The most important person in your life is YOU
I have a feeling you’re a good guy
Marriage is nothing but a legal obligation, you love someone, you don't need a legal document.
I concur
Marriage is much more than a contract. That is what civil unions are for. Your view of marriage seems to be infirmary by the current culture, which is highly self referential to narcissistic. Marriage can be a beautiful life long relationship.
@@matthewwysocki5019 then have fun with ur opinion because thats all it is
@@matthewwysocki5019 Can be but the reality demonstrates something else.

I'm a woman and I agree there is something wrong with alimony.
