    Thank you, your videos are life (and wallet) saving for those of us who still drive these old magnificent german cruisers. Nice and easy job once you see it done, took me less than 2 hours to replace the valve, as the manifold didn't look that bad so didn't touch it.

    Hey man!
    Want to thank you for this video and for having this channel! :-)
    Your videos are very useful and very easy to follow, you are doing an excellent job.
    I had big issues with my engine, and even Audi Zentrum Leipzig couldn't find the problem, but this video solved it! I did everything as you described, and also changed the DPF pressure sensor, and regenerated the DPF. The car is like new again.
    It went to limp mode three times after i cleaned the EGR, manifold and TB, but after some driving the fault codes disappeared. Also, the two bolts on the EGR-return (cooler) were 8mm HEX on mine, not 6mm. But maybe UK cars are different, idk?
    Once again, thank you very much, and keep posting more vids!
    Greetings from Norway!

    Many Thanks for video, just what I needed to finish a job I had already started. I didn't think of using a 8mm Allen key for the 12 star hex bolts on the exhaust gas pipe. I was going to go on line to get a new bit (buying new tools always fun), your solution of using a 8mm allen means I can probably carry on now! Also thanks for the tip on just moving the cooling pipe and not removing it, its saved me some time (I was going to disconnect it). Excellent, stuff you are almost as good as Edd China (trust me, in my book that's a big complaint).. All the best!

    I was told by a mechanic earlier on that after I've changed it I should use an injector cleaner OR put in about 2 liters of Petrol in with the diesel and run that through as it does the same as what the additives do, apparently. Try at your own risk, but it makes sense and should work pretty well. Haven't been able to find the air intake manifold gasket yet so I'll just have to clean what I can reach without taking it off completely. Thanks for the video dude, it's pretty damn good!

    Your video shoot is clear, very well planned and executed. Thank you very much!! I have not attempted this repair yet. I must gather enough energy first. I wonder how serious this EGR problem is. My EGR indicator (on the dashboard) comes ON/OFF sporadically. But it has been constantly ON for the last two weeks. This morning however, it turned OFF after I started the engine. A6 C6 4F 2011.

    Thanks for the great review!
    Made the job so much easier and explained really well!
    The allen key tips and loosening the coolant pipes (which get right in the way) were lifesavers too. My EGR valve was horrid and full of carbon - so satisfying to clean but took about 10 old tea towels and made a mess everywhere. I used about seven pairs of gloves also.
    I didn’t take my manifold off because I couldn’t get the new gasket the same day from Audi and yours looked fairly clean but it seems to have fixed my random intermittent loss of power.
    I only have one question…
    When are you making the one about replacing the turbo and the injectors ;-)

    • @wawayltd

      EGR pipe comes after throttle body. If someone blanks it, they normally blank it with little special metal plate. There are lots of talks about how necessary that procedure is, also in recent days - how legal it is. Little research would help :)

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  4 роки тому

      Sorry Trevor, probably there can be few reasons. That's what Google says:
      P0404 is a EGR circuit code. You most likely have an exhaust or intake leak which is why it's running rich. Check the engine bay for soot or oil stains near the intake or exhaust piping. Make sure to inspect the back of the engine.
      Check for exhaust system leaks?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  8 років тому

      Diesels are normally more dirty, because fuel contains more carbon. Especially if turbo is not in great condition and pushing oil into the intake, it won't take long for gunk to bild up. Luckily in this car it's easy to check/clean. My current car 2012 VW Sharan has a bit more difficult access to egr... But nothing is impossible :)

  • @steve323f
    @steve323f 7 років тому +1

    Thank you for this awesome video, my car is misbehaving loads and the only error code is egr sensor 1. Ive had the egr deleted along with the egr cooler pipe removed many years ago but I think I need to follow these steps and replace my egr cooler and egr. Hopefully this will fix it.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  7 років тому

      If your EGR was removed time ago, they probably didn't re-program ECU, so it doesn't know what's going on with it. If you are going to put it back, then it might need another ECU adoption..

    Hi first of all, great video! I have a b6 Passat with the same engine. Mine will start and stall immediately and the throttle body/egr is making a ticking/knocking noise after it stalls. Does this sound like the egr is blocked?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  6 років тому

      Hi Tom, when EGR is blocked car should give you an error. Mine didn't. I had it stuck in position "open", and engine was suffocating in it's own exhaust gases. Throttle body normally makes ticking sound when engine stops - it shuts and opens again, but by default it should stay fully open, because diesels always should have sufficient amount of air and power is regulated by fuel injection.

  • @zagroszabihi2791

    around my EGR is some oil and from the exsose coming white smoke and soot.do yo think it will be fix if I clean the EGR?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  3 роки тому

      Oil normally comes from turbo that pushes air into intake. In small quantities it's pretty normal, but when seals in turbo bearing wear out more and you get too much oil, (normally it's burning with white smoke and smells similar to burning plastic) that means turbo needs replacement or rebuild. But don't just take my word for it and go and spend your money on a new turbo. I'm not professional, I didn't see your car - I'm just sharing my experience.
      However, cleaning EGR is always good, but sometimes it can't fix all problems.

    • @wawayltd

      It is pretty normal for older diesels to have some oil being pushed into intake by turbo. If it's too much - could be a sign of dying turbo

      Hi Ioseb, never done N75 before.. I'm pretty sure it would be easy thing to do. But you know, just spent good couple hours trying to find proper instructions in my manuals - for some annoying reason I can't find them! I got almost everything from boost system - replacement of the whole turbo, intercooler, that little sensor that sits on intercooler... but not the N75!! As soon as I find any info, I'll let you know. I've found this little video, where some guy changes N75 on his tdi Golf, but I don't find it very informative, it's only 32 seconds long :) Here it is:

      Hi there, thank you for the quick replay. I have watched that vid already and did not find very formative for my case nor location of the part is the same. The sensor under air filter is not the same one is it? Im sure you have the video how to change the air filter. I am getting over boosting faulty code when car goes in idle mode very randomly but happens on hard acceleration after turning car off and back on again everything is normal as it should. Got exact same car as yours (best car in the world😁)

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  10 років тому

      Ioseb Khizanashvili I do have a video about the airfilter...
      The sensor behind airfilter (if it's the one you mean) is MAF sensor:
      How to change Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on Audi A6 (C6)
      I don't think it would cause overboost fault code.
      This is what I got from volkswagen forum about overboost code:
      VAG Error Code: 16618
      EOBD II Error Code: P0234
      Fault Location:
      Boost Pressure - Regulation Limit Exceeded (Overboost Condition)
      Possible Cause:
      Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) ON.
      Boost Pressure too high.
      Reduced Power Output.
      Hoses incorrectly connected, disconnected, blocked or leaking.
      Boost Pressure Control Valve (N75) faulty.
      Boost Pressure Sensor (G13) faulty.
      Turbocharger (TC) stuck/faulty.
      Possible Solutions:
      Check Charge Pressure Control System.
      Perform Output Test (to check the Turbocharger (TC)).
      Perform Basic Setting (to check the Charge Pressure Control).

      +michael jagger If it wasn't clogged up, you shouldn't feel much difference. Once I had EGR valve stuck in position 'open', that was trouble - power loss and misfire, because exhaust gases were coming back into cylinders where engine needed more air. Hi WheelsAndMotors, Great Video ! Just wondering if you could help me out with a quick problem im having. I have had the DPF light come up on my dashboard & the car is now in (safe mode), I have recently used the DPF regeneration liquid and taking it for a drive up the motorway (50 miles plus) , still nothing had changed. I took it to a local garage for diagnostics and it came up with a fault code saying it is my EGR valve. That mechanic then told me that I have to buy a new EGR valve for £350 then pay £250 labour to fit it in, but something is telling me not to proceed with that as I doubt that it is going to work. I then ran into another mechanic who I have paid to take out and clean my EGR Valve; after watching your video I now know that he has taken out the 'Flap Motor', and I have been scammed, but I don't know who to go to or what to do to resolve this issue. What do you suggest?

      In 61 plate it might be different. My current car VW Sharan is 61 plate and EGR cooler and valve are one complete piece and located under DPF at the back of the engine (At the back, because unlike A6 where engine is located along the bonet, in Sharan it's across).
      I can't prove or disprove what exactly your mechanic has done. I would recommend to go there and have a word about what has been done.

      I spoke to one mechanic (the real one ;) ) today.. Yeah, he said that it's likely EGR valve faulty, but he would need to see it to confirm that. Also he said - it happens to EGR valves, and if it's not too messy and doesn't affect performance, you could drive it for a while till it gets bad..
      Talking about quality parts bought from dealership - I don't know, I'm always happy to use GSF of eurocarparts, unless it's something specific that can be bought only from Audi.
      Some parts can be considered from second hand, but I'm not sure, if I would want to buy second hand EGR.. Unless it's really cheap and has some warranty and possibility of return for money (not credit note)

      Hi Paul.
      This code 01826 points on steering angle sensor. It has nothing to do with the engine. Engine fault codes normally start with "P".
      Of course steering angle sensor is something that needs to be sorted out, because it affects your Traction control and ABS and lots of other things.. I'm not sure why it doesn't let you to drive over 40. When initially I had egr problem with my Audi, it didn't show engine management light.
      Cleaning EGR won't harm at it's always good, however I don't know what exactly going on with your car.

      I believe that carbon build up is inevitable, because exhaust gases are dirty and EGR system brings it back to intake. Also on older engines there's always a bit of oil coming from the turbo. But if you have oil leak on the outside - that would be sign of something faulty. In terms of cost - I only bought gaskets. Total cost from dealership about 10 pounds, which would be about 15 euro.

      www.troublecodes.net/p2codes/p2009/?from=torque
      I also have a video about that intake flap, here is the link:

      +WheelsAndMotors the bolts from the manifold.I had a problem,I have cleaned the manifold intake,egr and anti-shutter,but I didn't managed to tight the bolts from the manifold and the car started to give white smoke on the exhaust,because the oil that is cooled from the manifold passed the gasket and into my inlet. please tell me is it 22Nm for all manifold bolts? thanks

    Hi, on german engine 2.0 tdi, like A3, if I blank the egr valve, does the car go in limp mode??
    I did it in a ford mondeo 1.8 tdci 2008 and there is no problem to do without consequences.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  7 років тому

      Hi Sergiu, I don't have and experience of blanking EGR. There are lots of opinions whether do it or not. I think that it certainly keeps intake cleaner. Now I drive 2012 VW Sharan, it has nearly 250.000 miles, has DPF and I didn't have any trouble from EGR yet. Maybe they have learned how build it so it works? :)
      I don't think it should go into limp mode, however, as far as I know - some amendments must be done to ECU, because if it doesn't know that EGR is blanked it may calculate wrong air/fuel ratio. But, as I said. I don't have experience - maybe you can just blank it and forget it. Not sure..

    I have a p0404 code and limp mode on my a6 c6 2.0tdi. Ive done a carbon clean but still no joy. Should i just replace the whole egr unit as its making some pretty horrible noises. When i clear the codes power comes back but then goes to limp mode again after a short while when the code comes back. Any help would be much appreciated

      Did you take it apart like in this video or was it some other cleaning without unbolting stuff? Yeah valve can get faulty too, so if it's clean, but still gives trouble - perhaps you need new one.

    • @mikeyBIA
      @mikeyBIA 6 років тому

      WheelsAndMotors not taken apart no... used a mobile carbon clean bloke. The black smoke that came out was biblical! Almost caused the block to lose all visibility so im assuming it was very very clogged up which damaged it

      In that particular car EGR is quite easy accessible, maybe it's worth trying to clean it completely to shiny condition (like in the video), see if helps to get rid of the code.. If not, then probably new valve..

      I don't know, I just bought it from dealership, explained where it goes and costed me about 3 pounds. Just had a look on eBay - it's more expensive :) Check this link:

      Thank you. I did this today. Load of black soot and crap in there. Used 4 cans of cleaner and still not completely clean. But had to put back together. Will clean it again soon. Great videos by the way. So glad we have the same car

    so what kind of the problem come when the AGR valve & inlet manifoold is too dirty ? cause we have VW 1.4 tdi have a( big white smok & a bit engine knock )& cold start all this problem can be cause of that AGR Vave & manifold is dirty?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  9 років тому

      +wavu shabani Yes, when it's dirty it can cause different problems. The one I had - EGR was clogged up and stuck in position "open" - so exhaust gases were always coming back to cylinders, even when engine was cold and needed more air.
