    Excellent video. I have an angle wing begonia that I cannot seem to get right. You gave me the courage to chop it down, propagate many of the cut pieces, and start all over again. I am also going to move it to another smaller pot.

    Thank you! I was given an angel wing today from my 92 year old neighbor. She got it from a neighbor 10 years ago. It's looking pretty sad, so thanks for all the info

    I grow my one Begonia in full nutrient water, it flower and does very well. I have been using Pon and Leca but transferring a number of my plants back to just water/nutrients. I 'think' it's so much easier. The changes are never ending🤦‍♀

      You are so right about changes. I'm a definite newby, having gotten into plants less than a year ago. I've always loved Angel Wing begonias and recently purchased a barely rooted begonia.
      I got on UA-cam this morning because last night I realized that my plant, although doing well, is a bit leggier than it should be, and one stem is needing support. I'm not sure if I should snip and propagate or add support. Now I'm wondering if I should go semi-hydro with her. I know nothing about semi-hydro so this will be educational for me. Change in the plant world is constant I'm finding out. 🤔 Any tips that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

      I'm probably the wrong person to ask because I now have a Philosophy of two chances or three if I really love the plant. If it doesn't work in my environment and I stress then it takes the love away. If it were me I would cut the leggier stem, and the one needing support, re root them and plant back in with the mother plant. Because it was not doing well in semi hydro I put it in water to re root and it was doing so well that I just left it. I love watching people experiment and the different ways people plant. Good luck @@vickykent353

    Cold drafts will cause leaf drop. Watering is usually the problem for most people. Great video ❤

    The last begonia you show at 3:13 is in fact,an Angel wing begonia, the name for this variety is called "Arabian sunset". I now have two of those (cause 1 is just isn't enough😂)
    Striking deep green,and a blood red color underneath, I always refer to it as "Vampire's ball" plant, although fully aware there's already an Echeveria with that name😅

    I really thought all the ones with white spots were begonia maculatta. Now I have to go look at mine better to find out what it actually is. Was given to me as a stick and I didn't ask what it was I just said yes please. 😂

    I was coerced into taking a begonia Rex by my mother who couldn't decide on two varieties (we devided them and swapped) I put it in pon, it looks mostly fine but a bit leggy and I did experience dry tips. With this video I now feel like maybe I should put her somewhere with more stable temperature and humidity. She might not enjoy being next to a window with our Canadian winter 😅

    Thank you for this! I looooove angel wing begonia and have struggled growing them. They do always grow back as long as I don’t give up! I just moved my maculata into PON so hoping it’ll love it and get huge 😊

    I have always had trouble with cane begonias. They do well for awhile, then decline and I have to cut them back and start again. Maybe I’ll try one in pon! Thanks for the tips! 💚✨

    Thank you :D right on time haha I'm trying to save my Begonia maculata. Her leaves are getting crispy. She was in store bought soil and I repotted her in fresh soil. I hope she will recover. If not, I'm thinking just to cut good parts and try to propagate her from the start. I also love the dots, and I will try to save her, or eventually get another one 🤣 your Begonias are beautiful! I hope mine will be like that one day 😊

    Omggg I love your plant!! It looks soo healthy! I have a cane begonia from my Grandma a few years ago & she's been very forgiving. She's grown out of control but she is dull. Trying to give her some TLC. Thank you for the info!

    I bought my Angel Wing at Walmart of all places. 1 turned into 3 after one of the stems broke off and I propagated. And now I have an additional 4 off that original. So 1 will turn into 7 eventually. I found my grow lights were too bright and burning the leaves so moved into bright, indirect sun and its doing well.

    I have one in my cabinet, and to be honest im not sure what im doing right here but its been going crazy. Shes my fastest growing plant i have, and i have loads. I have it in a quite chunky but also water retaining soil . And the humidity probably about 60% and i just water whenever i feel dryness in the soil. Shes directly under the grow light and starting to block light for other plants around it. I fertilize every second time i water.

    Ooh, your Begonias are looking gorgeous! 😍 I love the way the new growth comes in... You should look into getting a B. Listada or hybrid of. They are cane begonias that are super furry/velvety.

    Hey Emma, that's also MY name, Emma. I enjoyed your video. I just now learned what this plant is. I could already tell this plant is tropical. But until today, when I used the little camera on Google to do a reverse lookup by the leaves, I was seriously only guessing how to take care of this sweet plant. I'd only had it a day, and it was starting to do a little better; but, I wanted all of it to be happy, so I decided the reverse lookup was the first right thing to do. I'm a little sad that it's toxic to humans and cats/dogs. My neighborhood cats generally leave my outside houseplants alone. I promise I won't eat or otherwise ingest this, either. I came here to learn how to care for my angel wing begonia; and, you have been a tremendous help in learning what this plant is, and how to care for it. Thank you so much! =) From Emma, in Georgia, USA.

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  5 місяців тому

      Aww hey Emma! So glad to hear this helped you with your begonia! Many common outdoor plants are also toxic to cats/dogs, but typically they stay away from them because they don't taste good for them. So hopefully you should be in the clear!

    My daughter gave me one from her HUGE mother plant. She has very high vaulted ceilings and her "Angela" goes to the top. I have normal 8' ceilings and mine is to the top now....how do you keep them short? I have the same problem with other plants, as they grow straight up or straight out and take up too much space!

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  7 місяців тому +1

      chop and prop?

    • @emmapowell3488
      @emmapowell3488 5 місяців тому

      It's called pinching. You pinch off or trim off using scissors, the growth you don't want, keeping the cuttings for propagation. It keeps them shorter, and will produce more foliage, rather than shooting high for the ceiling. 😂

    • @emmapowell3488
      @emmapowell3488 5 місяців тому

      My suggested comment below usually also works well for other plants, too. When my philodendrons get new growth and want to start running, for example, I break/pinch it off and propagate it for a new plant. It works well for me. After it takes root and starts growing a little bit, I find someone to give it to. Newly propagated plants make a great gift, especially if the recipient loves plants. Good luck! 😂
