Also important to note: Sugar Alcohols (the insulin-spiking kind) can be hidden under "natural flavors" too, given they are in _small smount per serving size._ Dextrose / Maltodextrin doesn't even have to be listed if it is used as a drying agent in the process of extracting a substance, which is commonly used to manufacturing "natural flavors".
If you ever wondered why 9/10 sparking water on the market with just 2 ingredients - "carbonated water and natural flavors" taste just as sweet as a conventional soda...

I bought a stevia plant several years ago. I've nourished it and propagated it into several other plants. I harvest fresh stevia leaves and dry them. Then I crush them up and use just a pinch of the dried leaves in any beverage I want sweetened. I know what is in my stevia.

    • @Trazynn
      @Trazynn Рік тому +27

At first about 6 to 8 months. That's because I had candida and it took that long for the yeast colony to starve in my gut. It was the cause of sugar and alcohol cravings.
Whenever I eat carbs these days, the cravings do return, but it only takes a few days of keto for them to dissipate again because there's no yeast colonies that secrete these craving hormones into my brain anymore.

      I had the same response.
I did keto with an 18-20 hour fast,
      and 4-6 hour eating window.
      I’ve lost a total 60lbs so far.
Another 20 to go, but that seems to be slow going…
But I’m not at strict now, as I was before
My sugar intake is almost zero,
But I do use raw honey & garlic, about 3/4 teaspoon, once, maybe twice per day.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with my results.
      It’s a lifestyle change!
I can see this lasting me the rest of my life.
But at almost 69yo, I’m not too concerned!😉

Xylitol’s anti-cariogenic properties (enamel protective effects) alone make it the best alternative sweetener you can consume, especially after every meal and snack. Just make sure you keep it out of reach from your dogs as it is lethal to them. And don’t worry about its effect on the gut microbiome, as it’s actually a prebiotic, and it’s not indiscriminately antibacterial. It selectively inhibits the cavity-causing streptococcus mutans through the metabolism of xylitol-5-phosphate, which is indigestible and detrimental to their survival because they are unable to process it, which starves them, essentially allowing the now alkalinized saliva to do its job and remineralize the teeth without the hindrance of acidity and bad bacteria.

When your gut is heavy on the side of the bad guys (gut disbiosis) the messages sent from your gut bacteria to your brain are mostly screaming for sugary stuff so you like and crave it. However, after you have done IF and other gut-healing things and get the balance back between the good and bad guys, the messages from your gut bacteria say, "Feed me something other than sweets, please," so you stop liking and craving sweets. I learned that from "Plant Paradox," by Gundry and "Gut Feelings" by Cole. Fascinating indeed!

Dr. Berg, really love all you do. I've really studied how some sugars are made. White sugar has a multi phase chemical process, unlike Coconut Sugar. I think saying they are the same are not accurate. Keep in mind (not a popular opinion) I practice metabolic flexibility on Sunday and sometimes weekends. That why I studied high carb sugars. So it may be helpful if you can touch on clarifying on these topics, respectfully. However I can't help but think that you're not going to touch on it, because it's against the philosophies of all the keto type doctors on UA-cam. If anybody reading this does want to try metabolic flexibility on Sunday or weekend, Make sure you try to use all natural sugars if possible or just fruits or honey. I do deviate it from it a little bit (holidays) but some can't tolerate this generally. I learned this from a doctor, fighting cancer using diet only. To pharaphase him: after a couple of months of being low carb, then you can easily do (without cravings) a high carb sunday with natural sugars like fruit (his rule was only natural honeycomb and fresh fruit on Sunday, along with the special keto low-carb diet with certain vegetables, to fight his cancer which went into remission over 8 years). So thanks to all reading this, and I hope you can gain better health/well-being with this information, and of course the knowledge of what we can gain from Dr Eric Berg and the others that do low to no carb and are helping monumentally on UA-cam💜☮️

Allulose is the only one i use since, to me, it's closest to sugar taste without any blood sugar impact. Hopefully it's not found one day to be harmful. Monk fruit tastes like aspartame to me. I'd really like to see you do a video on store bought keto bread. I've tried two brands (one from Costco and the other from Publix). Both taste the same (not really good). Both claim 1g carb net per slice. However, both have similar impacts on my blood sugar- one slice causing my CGM to go from 100 to 180! False advertising? Loophole in labeling laws? I pitched both into the trash - if i get a spike like that out of 1g carb bread, i might as well eat the real deal.

Allulose IS sugar, but it's a different molecule that your body only absorbs about 1/10. It's naturally occurring in plants. I buy organic or non-gmo (it's often from corn.)
PS: I wouldn't habitually use _any_ of these sweeteners. I use a tiny amount of monkfruit extract or stevia in hibiscus tea, and a drop or two in some recipes. Otherwise, I don't generally sweeten my beverages, and I try to avoid desserts. Once in a blue moon, I make ribs, and allulose is good for that because it caramelizes like table sugar.

My nostrils have completely opened at the 23:25 minute mark of fasting, one has always been closed for 35 years, since breaking nose. I noticed around 22 hrs I was finding breathing easier and fresher. Fasting now for nearly 24 hours, a day or so I did a 34 hour fast. I did notice it but it went over my head. Trying to do 30 today if possible. The biggest result came around 23:25 hr mark. I began noticing I found it easier to breath. The left nostril is completely open. I broke my nose when I was 10 and had it fixed, but always assumed that the nostril and breathing through mouth was my only choice most of the time. Both nostrils are working now and that is despite my neighbour using the tumble drier with softener that usually makes me bunged up in the nose. This is the biggest result to date in health as I thought that was structural. Turns out it might be diet related and the broken nose before was psychologically stopping me seeing the truth. Need advice on this.

The other sweeteners tend to not agree with me one way or another; headache, digestion problems, etc. But because of you Dr Berg, I saw the Maltodextrin on my original Monk Fruit in the Raw, just about the time I was wondering why I wasn’t losing any weight when I ate a homemade Cranberry Bliss Bar or a slice of cheesecake. Once I got rid of that ingredient I started losing again. Thank you Dr Berg. I am 31lbs down and four pounds to go. :)
Oh! If you want a brown sugar substitute, use your sweetener of choice and just add a little Molasses. You dont have to spend an arm and leg for sugar free brown sugar. 😊
Good job to everyone here on their journey. Every day is a new beginning to start fresh. May you all find your answers you need, you will find most of them here with Dr Berg. 😊

Thank you Dr Berg, Sweet & Low has dextrose not on the label. Xylitol is Birch I am allergic to it. I prefer pure Monk Fruit for my great grandson’s treats, (Kiltz’s Ice Cream) with Erythritol or with Allulose for me and the amino acid Glycine so far.

Dr. Berg what do you think about the resent published paper about erythriol and formation of blood clots in both animal and human studies. Pretty convincing article and many experts are in agreement . I have quitted taking it.

Very happy to follow Dr. Berg for all his health advice. I lost 60lbs when i jumped on Keto and kept it off for past 6 years. I must add, i lost it within 5 months! Once i lost my weight i maintained my lifestyle by simply keeping a ketogenic diet, OMAD (sometimes eat twice a day within a 5 hr window) and of course, keep up with ever video Dr. Berg posts.

For those with stubborn insulin resistance, just know that even the *taste* of something sweet will spike insulin. Insulin is the premier fat storage hormone and thus will prevent weight loss.

@@SpamMouse so I could drink diet soda all day while fasting and exercising and I wouldn't burn fat ????? That makes no sense. What calories are being burned if Im not eating carbs ????

@@johnray5665 With respect John you need to study the whole process. If you exercise yes you will "burn" calories, however if you are consuming a diet-soda that does trigger The Cephalic Phase Response your body will be producing/releasing Insulin and be fat storing when you do eat food. The body is a complex machine.
