    your hindi videos are very close to our heart keep making , may you start to make a series on laboratory test of bituminous material please, it is basic course in mtech course work .so it will be helpful for all of us🙏🙏

      Thanks Keshav for the suggestion. I will certainly cover a few tests on bituminous materials and but a bit advanced ones. I dont thick tests like penetration and sofetning point need to be discussed here. What do you say?

    In the Middle East, all mix designs are followed by MS.02, which is a reference standard that includes guidelines for the design and production of asphalt mixtures. These guidelines are based on international standards such as ASTM and ASHTOO.

    Hello sir, myself Prushottam Kumar from Bihar currently working in a private firm as a Quantity Surveyor for highway projects. BTech civil engineering graduate 2014 from Cochin University of science and technology.
    I have a keen interest in highway pavement design like Design of earthworks layer, embankment and subgrade, gsb and wmm layers, dbm and bc layers , with step by step procedure with given condition. During BTech, I have performed several tests on soil, aggregate and bitumen.
    I am thinking of mtech from transportation engineering from nit or iit.

      One more thing sir suppose in any design mix of stone dust ratio is 38% and bitumen content 4.5 % and filler is 2 % then if I want to calculate bitumen fines ratio then I need 75 micron passing percentage of dust and filler both and sum of both and divide by 4.5% ( bitumen content) is it right sir ?

      @@civiltechnoharyana7850 You should consider the final grading after mixing aggregates of all stockpiles and then see what is the percent passing at 75 micron sieve to find F-B ratio

    Please explain why we provide voids in bituminous mixes ,

      Two reasons. (1) the layer cannot be compacted to zero air voids, neither in the lab nor in the field and therefore, there will always be some air voids, and (2) Air voids in a layer provide some space for secondary compaction in the field (compaction due to moving traffic) which is needed to avoid cracking and bleeding in the pavement,

      That will depend on type of mix. This is the material of the final mix after mixing different aggregates

      A batch mix plant produces finished mixtures in batches with short intervals, whereas a drum mix plant can continuously produce mixtures without any interruptions. Both are in use and both have advantages and disadvantages depending upon the size and type of the job.

      Flow can also be controlled by either changing the fine content or the binder content. Higher flow value indicates higher binder content. Reduce it slightly to get flow in limits.

      You mean retained stability is less than code value. It shows that there is problem in the binder. Stability loss indicates the stripping in the mix. Either increase the fine content or use some anti-stripping agent.

    Sir I'm using 5% river sand for filler material and 5% bitumen (60gm)
    Result is
    Stability= 758kg
    Flow value = 3.24
    Why stability is so much low?
    After rammering the sample i kept it for 22 hours in room temp. Then kept in water bath at 65°c for 35 minutes
    Where am I making mistakes?
    Please give me some guidance

      Sand is not permitted in a bituminous mix. River sand can contain clay and that will affect the adhesion

      @@Gajabbbc Any material passing 75 micron sieve is a filler material. The final grading should have some material passing this sieve. It may be stone dust, lime or cement, but not the sand.

    In my project location area , temperature goes to maximum 47-49 C but in contract bitumen grade mentioned Vg-30
    Is it wrong or should he changed according to actual weather temperature please clarify

    Dear sir,
    I am somesh from Tamilnadu, for BC-2 the minimum binder content as per Mort&h & IRC SP:2022 but in the case of PMB as a minimum binder content 5.6% as per IRC:SP:053-2010.
    So please suggest the minimum binder content in the case of modified bitumen.

    Sir As per IRC 37 2018 air voids should be 3.5% and as per morth 4% which should follow ?

      when DBM is laid in two layers, the lower layer is designed for 3.0 percent air voids keepling little higher binder content. The upper layer is designed for 4 percent air voids.
      For the single layer DBM, the recommended target air voids in the design is 3.5 %

    E.g if softening point 50° hai ,to bitumen ko 50+75=125° Tak garam karna hai??

      MSS is a thin layer surfacing with no structural strength. It is a recipe type mix and not designed in the laboratory. Marshall method is used for structural layers only.
