Hello friends,

It is meant for undergraduate students of Civil Engineering, graduate and research students of Transportation Engineering and also for field engineers working in planning, design and construction of highways and airports. The basic requirement is that It should drain well. Section 408 of MoRTH 2013 provides guidelines for the same.

3 to 5 years. For thin layers, we assume life around 3 years and for thick layers like BC it is 5 years

Sir is it correct that for mix having high air voids such as open graded friction course bulk density should not be calculated by conventional method in which we dip compacted samples in water and take 3 weight ,air weight ,SSD waight and submerged weight....if yes when by what method we should calculate bulk density of compacted mix have high interconnected air voids ( like air voids 22%)
In the case of high air voids mix, the bulk density is estimated by geometris parameters of the specimen. Take height and diameter at 3-4 places and find the volume of the specimen. See ASTM D3203 - 17.

CRM is also a type of base or subbase material like WMM or WBM. It is given in Section 407 of MoRTH Specifications 2013. Its construction procedure and grading of material are different from those of WMM or WBM.

Widening projects are undertaken based on volume - capacity ratio. It is given in four-laning manual. Once the traffic volume on a two lane exceeds the values given in this manual, it is widened to 4 lane.

Number of lanes are fixed based on traffic volume. divisional islands are designed as per IRC code. Will see if I can cover these points in a video

Plastic limit soil की water absorption capacity बताती है। LL and PL जितना अधिक होगा उतनी ही soil poor category me आएगी। ऐसी मिट्टी पानी को सोख लेती हैं और बरसात में फूल जाने का खतरा होता हैं। जिससे pavement में crack develop ho सकते है

There was a application of NOC For installation of petrol pump in Village road. We gave NOC for Construction after 12.5 metre for Village road. Now they built a retaining wall for retaining the soil in filling. Retaining wall touched the shoulder of road. I asked them to remove it because it was withing ROW(12.5 metre). He said that, how will we retain the soil if we do not construct retaining wall? I thought he is right. If he doesn't construct the R/W then how will they retain the soil . But as per criteria ROW is 12.5 metre. It is okay to do that?
Sometime practical considerations dictate the design. Difficult to tell whether it is ok or not.

No, IRC 37 gives some indicative values but those should be used only for small projects
