I can't thank you enough! My 98 Ram 1500's pump died and I was "concerned" about dropping the tank or lifting the bed. You save this old Texan a lot of work!!
Great Video! I changed mine after watching your video! I measured 18 instead of 15 and i used your 31 and 12 number! My truck is 20 years old and doing it your way only took an hour! I patched the hole and put a Plastic Bed liner in! Thank You Sir!
happy that worked for you ,I had just filled up my gas tank the night before my fuel pump failed and did not want to siphon into gas tanks all day just to drop the gas tank. I will be posting an update video on my truck soon and yes it still running like a new. its a 1998 Dodge Ram with 360 ci
I think it's a great idea also. Plus trucks this old don't have any value anymore. People probably will be using electric cars & trucks in the very near future & won't even consider a truck like this. Mines a 1998 V10 & i don't think anyone would buy it cause it uses so much gas. So i'm gonna do this also.
Nothing lazy about this. Work smarter .... Not harder. Why they don't have a trap door panel for this is ridiculous. Just another way to charge people hundreds and hundreds of dollars in labor to replace a 200 dollar part that takes 15 minutes after dropping the tank or lifting the bed.
My husband was going to pay over 400 to get pump on his 99 dodge ram but instead i showed him this video and he went this route was fast and easy didn't have to pay a tow truck or over 400 dollars only $89 for the pump
Excellent help ! thank you. I am in Margarita Island with a Ram Charger 99 with a 360 and because of water in the gasoline the fuel pump burnt. My truck is like an SUV, but if I have to keep changing pumps I will probably cut a hole like you did. Now, the positioning was great helped me with those two notches, now I wanted to know if you inserted the pump with the new rubber gasket on or if you put the gasket in the tank first and then inserted the pump and its housing. Anyway, great help apprct
Great idea man, saves alot of pain in the ass work. The last pump i changed was in a 2001 Dodge 1500 with the 360, we just unbolted the bed and jacked it up, but this is alot easier. Great video.
I guarantee you this is what ill be doing when the time comes. Of corse ive got a tool box that would mount over that as well. Sealing it up would be a good idea for people like me that have a camper shell as well.
I can hear the fuel pump coming on and it sounds like it's working fine, I think I may be getting too much gas to the throttle body, so I think it may just be the Fuel Pressure Regulator...If I remove the bed will I still need to drop the tank?....
I've never understood the "No access cover" thing either. As an example... 1991 Honda prelude has an access panel in the trunk. Remove it and easy access to the fuel pump.
Dude you have align the new pump that has a painted mark on the flange and center it on the tank notches ....when looking for marks on the tank it will be at 3 a clock.
this is a great idea when a truck is 13 to 14 yrs old truck the bed integrity is a non issue all those naysayers and critics are assholes i used your measurements and they were exact worked great and as a ex ironworker fixing the hole is pie work all them other haters are idiots thanx mike from racine wisconsin.
Or you take8 bolts out, and 3 screws for the filler hose and two connectors for taillights and get another person to lift the bed. Takes 30 minutes. No drilling no measuring. I know some are scared of the idea of working under vehicles. If so don't work on them.
😂, yes... That's sooooo easy and only takes 30 minutes. It takes 30 minutes to set up everything in order to crawl around on the ground. Oh ,and if you don't have a buddy ... Good luck. I'll be smart and cut a hole, make it nice and easy to get to again in the future if need be.
dude! Y the fuel gauge always go flat when the fuel pump is replaced!!??? now i cant tell how much gas i have in my dang truck!!! y does that always happen to the lil fuel float?? DOES ANYONE KNOW Y THAT HAPPENS OR KNOW HOW TO FIX THAT PROBLEM?????
Came here to see how to replace a fuel pump...instead i found out how to put a hole in my bed... where is the video of you actually replacing the fuel pump??
Access panel. Dodge should have made one in the design. But to cut? I jacked up, after loosening the two bolts and two hose clamps and the electri and fuel conn. Slid the tank right out. I did not drain it, it was 1/4 full. This is a good reason to not keep a full tank. Also, a defuel is not hard if you just siphon it into a lower barrel. Not hard. "No one will ever know" well, 21,000 people know now. Dodge decided to make things difficult, to change a fuel filter should not cost $300
You just talked the whole time. you didnt actually do anything in the video. thats the point of youtube. I can read out loud if i want to hear how to do it
Poor video. Two parts, twelve minutes, and all he said multiple times over and over was that he did it "Mike's way", that he didn't drop the tank, that he doesn't carry twenty people in the back of his truck so it was no problem to completely negate the structural integrity of the bed, and that he replaced the fuel filter. He DIDN'T talk about the fuel line clips, he DIDN'T actually SHOW the replacement, and he DIDN'T get the reference arrows to line up on the new part. I'll never get my 12 mins back...
😂, Yea in your dreams it took 10 minutes to lift the bed. Maybe after taking all of the bolts out and undoing the filler line and electrical lights it took 10 minutes.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ok to start with if you can't do a job properly don't do it. It is not a design flaw. If there was an access door then there would be no stregnth to the box without adding reinforcement around it as well as it would become a place for moisture and dirt to gather and greate rust. I can re and re one of these tanks in less than an hour in my shop I do it fairly often. Why you would even think this is a good idea I can't understand. I am amazed at what comes in my shop for "better" repairs!
You guys making all the shity comments prb got plenty money or help to do this sort of thing . So whatever . I say whatever works for ya . Alot of us folks have to do what we can to get by .
@@Oldschoolrules123 Im a 30 journeyman toolmaker and an engineer, I know it will still be functional but why go through all the trouble. Waste of time.
@@JustinTyme1966 What trouble 🤡, making it a 1 hour job compared to crawling around on the ground and taking bolts out of your bed and unhooking wires to raise your bed your trying to drop a full tank of gas to do a 15 minute job. Well I'm a retired heavy equipment operator/ truck driver. HOWS THAT 🤡

Thanks . You just simplified my fuel pump installation
I bet if you go to a junk yard with your sawzall you could cut a slightly larger piece from another bed and rivet it in
And he is not lazy just works all the time and didn't have time to drop the tank truck work like new thanks for the great video

The green mark on the lock-ring doesn't matter as long as the arrow on the pump housing itself lines up with the mark on the tank.

I like Mike's way!
I am going to do the same thing to my van istead of dropping the tank this is a great video
Thanks for the video. I think it's a good idea too. Maybe I'll do the same with mine..
Heck Yes This is exactly what I’ll do if I have to replace my fuel pump
I just had to install a new fuel pump 13 years later,,so happy I cut the hole in the bed ,, ,,I hope to post a new video about it soon
this helped me with my 92 Dodge Ramcharger . similar pump, no cutting, Thanks
I dont see the other video for the measurements
I used a cold chisel and mallet counter clockwise to remove the threaded on cap, a little at a time. No filter wrench or strap tool big enough here.
I agree on shity design also . They dont want people to be able to work on stuff . Plain an simple
heck yeah thats what im doing to mine then ill cover it with diamond plate and silicone thanks for your measurements
is it crucial for the arrow to line up?
They didn't put a trap door because they'd rather you buy another dodge after 190874 miles. I do still like the dodge
What tool did you use to remove that unit? Ken in Ca.1994 Dodge Ram flatbed 360 dually.
Thanks for the measurements though
I can hear the fuel pump coming on and it sounds like it's working fine, I think I may be getting too much gas to the throttle body, so I think it may just be the Fuel Pressure Regulator...If I remove the bed will I still need to drop the tank?....
Would you happen to know where I can get the measurements for my 97 Dakota 6ft bed??

can you replace hte pressure regulatator or filter on these?
I had an old Escort and it had a door under the back seat that was kind of suprising
Dude you have align the new pump that has a painted mark on the flange and center it on the tank notches ....when looking for marks on the tank it will be at 3 a clock.
Do you still have the old fuel pump. I will like to purchase from you?
i like the idea .im doing that tomorrow morning.......
Outstanding
ck is anyone suppose to learn how to actually change it if you don't show them how its done not very helpful this video

put hinges on that n make the trap door....
Or just seal it and put 4 screws in it.
i did this in 99 s10 save a lot of time.
Back under the common sense bridge with you.
😢😢😢😢poor cupcake
So you didn't show us how to disconnect the old fuel lines this video was a waste of time
I did the same thing on my van
The lazy method.
No, it's called... Work smarter ... Not harder.
I suppose you can cut a hole in your head to look at your brain too, but I don't recommend it. LOL
hahaha
That is how u fuck up ur truck
How did he mess up his truck???? Can still carry the same stuff in the bed as before.

woo wee shits high as hell where you live son, fuel pump Ass, for my 96 4wd 318 ram was 167.89,170.00 after tax, sweet home abalama!!

Dude!!! You just lost the integrity of your bed, not to mention the chance of a spark when you cut it. Yep your not a genius.
You're not a genius either. You can't even differentiate your and you're
😂, better hide under your bed. And he can still carry the same stuff as before in the bed.
