    Ned found out that John Arryn had:
    1. Borrowed a book about the histories and lineage of noble families.

    That conversation between Circe and Robert is incredible.
    I don't even remember reading it in the books so you know they had good writers on at this point.
    It makes you feel sympathy for the two of them, neither of them wanted it this way.

    Names are the most important thing to memorize in my opinion rather than details because they will go back to them at some point later in the show. Even as far as season 8. Getting confused is totally valid. It'll start making sense.
    important names to mention (that I wished I remembered in season 1)
    Lyanna Stark - Ned Starks sister, reportedly taken and killed by Rhaegar Targaryen
    Rhaegar Targaryen - Mad Kings son, eldest brother to Daenerys
    Jorah Mormont - The man with Daenerys and her brother, now serves as Daenerys "advisor" (he was mentioned in the meeting where Ned resigned as hand of the king. Important to recall.)
    Jon Arryn - As you know, previous hand of the king. Husband to Lysa Arryn (Catelyn's freak ass sister)

    hi there ... welcome to game of thrones community ...i only recently came across your reactions to the show and now watched the first 5 in a row
    I have noticed that you are missing some stuff either by trying to remember certain names etc .. its your first watch and you won't pick up on everything no one ever does but the dialogues are important, missing a 5-sec dialogue will leave you confused in future episodes my advice is don't worry about the names of characters that will come in time and since you have an editor I suggest re-watch the episode in your own time again .. most reactors pick up more when the edit because its a re-watch for them ... also the history you will learn more about if you watch the history and lore at the end of each season just stay away from season 5 history and lore if you plan on watching the house of the dragon

    Guard knew Ned Stark as someone to fear and respect and knew he'd end up killing or severally hurting Jamie, so he had to intervene, which obviously hurt Jamie's reputation and pride.
    (Haven't read the books, so it might not be what actually happened, but that's my view on it anyway) Weirdly... It's one of my favorite moments from the show! Also love that Ned didn't hesitate to stand up for and defend his wife, saying "under my command"... God I love Ned Stark!

    • @rhuskymikhaelorcullo5832
      @rhuskymikhaelorcullo5832 Місяць тому +1

      SPOILERS:
      Nah in the books Jaime is quite literally the best swordsman alive at this point in time, he was playing with Ned at the beginning and there are actually two theories as to what Jaime felt at the moment he had that confused face, either he was surprised at how good a fighter Ned was, or he was surprised at how bad Ned actually was since Ned supposedly killed Jamie's hero, the greatest swordsman in the book series, the sword of the morning, Arthur Dayne.
      Like being totally serious Jaime is one of the best swordsmen in history in this series, GRRM, the author himself was asked if he himself was in a situation of him having to ask for a trial of combat who would be his champion, if it was any fighter in history his first choice would be Arthur Dayne, but if it was the current timeline of the books then two-handed Jaime Lannister was his choice.

    • @IshtarNike
      @IshtarNike Місяць тому

      It didn't happen that way in the books but I'd say it's a decent way of putting things for the show.

    • @IshtarNike
      @IshtarNike Місяць тому

      @@rhuskymikhaelorcullo5832I don't think the second theory holds up. Jamie is very good at what he does but so is Ned. Ned, as he says himself, doesn't fight in tourneys. He doesn't spend time showing off or boasting of his feats. Jamie has spent the better part of his life at court so of course he has a huge reputation. Ned's probably not going to win, but the idea that he's so bad Jamie would be shocked is kind of silly. From what I've heard of Jamie's exploits prior to the current situation Ned has more battle experience than Jamie even if Jamie is "the best." He's not been tried and tested in as many battles (Siege of Puke, and presumably some other skirmishes in that rebellion, Kings wood brotherhood, any others?, compared to Ned who did most of that plus the actual rebellion that Jamie didn't fight in I think). So in my opinion Ned is someone who can most certainly hold his own against someone like Jamie, as he did against Dayne, but yeah he would probably lose.
      However, if we're going realistically, then when you look at top athletes, it's not so common to have someone who's so good they won every single time. It happens of course, but just because someone is "the best" doesn't mean they're a dead cert. So if we're being more realistic he still had a fair-ish chance, if luck is on his side, of winning. Say a 1 in 5 chance. Good odds when facing one of the greats, but certainly not odds to stake your life on if you can help it.

      Something similar had happened to me. I had come into Game of Thrones late...between season 1 and 2. I typically avoid things with a lot of hype, which is why I didn't bother joining in early on. But the hype was so crazy leading into season 2 that I was like, FINE!! I'll give it a chance.
      But I was very tired (and a bit stoned) so I ended up falling asleep in the 1st episode. I remember thinking "great, a boring medieval drama" before nodding off. I was awake enough to hear a woman shouting and when I opened my eyes and was able to focus....Bran was being shoved out the window.
      I was like "WTH!! What did I miss that would take this boring drama to a WILD drama that involves killing little children". So I started the episode over again and started getting hooked. And by episode 9, I was one of those people hyping up the show like crazy. Anyway, that immediate rewatch of the 1st episode really did help.
      I swear, I must've turned like 40 people on to the show. And those 40 ended up turning on like 200 people. Cause we would have HUGE watch parties, but then the watch parties got smaller because others were having watch parties of their own.

    The view we get from Jaime seems to be a bit dual: on one hand we see an arrogant man who likes to insult others, but on the other he put an end to the mad king who was feared by everyone and wanted to burn everyone alive, but he isn't really appreciated and people call him Kingslayer and that he stabbed him in the back; that's why he said to Ned "if I stabbed him in the belly instead of the back, would you admire me more?". Ned evades this by questioning why Jaime didn't take a stand against the king earlier (before the king burned his Neds father and brother).

    The show runs deeper than just the conversations going on. Jon Arryn was reading a book of the lineages of the High Houses. And he was also visiting Robert's bastards. And that is what Ned has been doing.
    But Jon was killed cause he had figured out the secret that Ned hasn't caught onto yet. Lyssa Arryn said Jon's last words were "the seed is strong". But can you trust the word of a crazy woman? Was he REALLY speaking of his son or was he speaking of what he learned from his investigation?
    If you had noticed the mother of the baby bastard was blonde. If you start putting everything together. The Seed is Strong...all of Robert's bastards look like him and have dark hair (even with a blonde woman). Jon KNEW Cersei's children were NOT Robert's children and he was killed because of it.
    GRRM is a very clever writer that way. He gives you all these clues to the past but you ALSO must take into account the source of these clues. Are they liars? What purpose do they have saying these things? How would they know the truth of what they say?

      First off, Stef is like THREE episodes ahead by the time I made this comment. So I haven't spoiled a damn thing since everything I've said has been covered by now. And what have I said? NOTHING that the show hasn't already covered. I was just teaching Stef on HOW to connect the dots in a series with LOTS of dots & breadcrumbs. I didn't even spell it out that it's the Lannisters that would want Jon Arryn dead because of what he knew....even though it was one of the 1st things said after the cold-opening of the series. The conversation between Cersei & Jamie at a funeral "what if he talked....our heads would be on spikes".
      Secondly, your comment has more spoilers than mine does. So how about you delete your comment....and yourself while you're at it.

      @@markharris1125 Give what away? I've given NOTHING away and you bloody well know that. I've only said what the show has given away so far. The only thing I did was to give Stef and others tips on HOW to watch the show AND read the books.
      I would argue that YOU'VE spoiled more with YOUR comment.
      Plus, Stef is like THREE episodes ahead. Anything I said when I made the comment she would've ALREADY KNOWN!!! But I guess that's too advanced for you to understand.

      @@jimmygreer2140 😂😂 This puffed-up anger is a wonder to behold. You literally said that 'Jon KNEW Cersei's children were NOT Robert's children and he was killed because of it.' This has not been revealed yet. Yes, the evidence is there but people need to work it out for themselves. Or not.
      I think it was your patronising tone that irritated me the most. How is it up to you to lecture our host on how she should watch the show? 'If you had noticed' . . .' you say. 'If you start putting everything together . . . ' It's very insulting.
      'The only thing I did was to give Stef and others tips on HOW to watch the show AND read the books.'
      What arrogance makes you think this is your job?
      Away with you and your fake anger. You've been called out and you don't like it.
      Sorry, Stef, for this unfortunate series of comments. I'm not indulging this person any more.

    whenever i hear people saying what a hard time they had catching on to what is happening in the show i always get worried about what is going on in the real world.

    If I'm not mistaken, Sansa is like 11 or 12 years old in the first season. So ofcourse she is naive and easily manipulated

      The show aged her up to 14

      @GeorgeEugeneBarrett she only had her period in season 2 so I doubt she was fourteen in season 1

    "Her sister's... Her sister and her family are f- crazy, what?" is probably the most accurate description of Lysa and Jon Arryn there is..
    Edit: "Lysa and Robin Arryn"

    24:55 Never forget that expression on Ned Stark's face, he looks very confused after the "man without honor" did not take advantage of his opponent being attacked from behind. It is an important detail
    And remember, choose a side a quick
