What makes the show so good and addictive is that it asks more questions than it answers. You keep coming back out of anticipation for the answers, some of which may take seasons to get. Yet every answer leads to more interesting questions. It's just this crazy rabbit hole till the last couple seasons, which partially suffer from lack of intrigue as more stuff finally gets resolved (they have other problems as well, but I think trying to solve this one while moving past the books is a cause of a lot of it).

    • @Dene181
      @Dene181 15 днів тому +1

This sort of thing also made The Expanse really great. Questions on questions and some answers, only to be fully resolved in the end.
      And the hidden details ofc.

So we all were confused as well, the first time you rewatch season 1 and 2 after seeing the entire show, you will be amazed at how much you miss, but it will make sense even tho you didn't catch some details. There is a lot of characters, who all come from an entire back story and lore for each family, in different locations etc. By middle of season 3 you will have a decent grasp on everything.

The thing with King Roberts bastards is this:
Ned Stark was named Hand of the King as a replacement for the previous Hand. That Hand had been murdered because he had discovered a secret - an old book which described all the Royal's lineages revealed this: all of Robert's forebears and Robert and Robert's bastards had dark hair.
Robert had married a Lannister, Cersi. Cersi was a blonde. Cersi's twin brother, Jamie was similarly blonde.
Cersi gave birth to four children. The first was dark-haired. He died in childbirth, or so Cersi told Kat. She may have smothered the baby as she hated Robert.
Her next three children had the Golden hair of she and Jamie.
If Geoffrey was Jamie's basterd, he held no claim for the Throne. Neither would any other Lannister.

  • @boomieboo

Something that always helped me understand GOT more was watching the post commentary after every episode on HBO.
That's where the showrunners and directors speak about the episode that just preceded it. They'll mention the characters featured and their motivations along with other helpful things to understand the episode better.
You may also want to just write down some character names and their relationships to other characters with short character descriptions. Like Jamie Lannister - also known as the Kingslayer. Brother of Cersei Lannister. They're banging and it's hot AF, etc.
Just take notes like this that help you whenever you need to.

Especially Joffrey, but there will be strong emotions for each one of them. Besides them, there is Stannis the Mannis and most importantly - his red priestess. Most mysterious Mellisandre, whose power, abilities and motives remains a secret for now and for many seasons to come. And there will be more characters you are yet to meet. Some you'll hate, some you'll love, but I'm sure you'll enjoy every episode of season 2.

By the end of season 3 (whether you've watched the lore videos or not) you'll have a pretty good grasp on who is who and the cast will thin out because people will start dropping like flies.
The most difficult part of the series IS now for most people because it's the actual "Game of Thrones". All the different kingdoms are vying for power.

When these episodes wer coming out I watched the episode and didnt care much just enjoyed what it was, then right after watched it again but this time really focused on the dialogues, rewinding, pausing and just processing what they were saying. I would say Season 2 is really where it starts to show how good GoT really is now that the people are familiar with the relations between families and key charactes and just the world in general. Sesaon 2 is really good but Seasons 3 and 4 is peak. It's super high quality TV so just enjoy as you roll into it and know while you do it that this is really special and kinda rare. It will gut you at times but really owrth it. Super high quality writing both in terms of the overall storyline and characters ( layers and layers to peel back its so good ) and these actors really killed it. You give them good material and a worthy scene partner and they will blow your mind. Every scene between Cersey ( Lena Headey ) and her brother Tyrion ( Peter Dinklage ) is just gold, their father ( Charles Dance ) could be reading the phone book for me I'd watch it, that man has such gravitas on screen its crazy.
Also that scene between Cersei and Peter Baelish where she demonstrates what power really is...soo good :D)
As for the lore videos, this is the only thing you need to watch. This is a link for a playlist, one for each seasons, narrated by the actors of the houses when its their story is being told. Really good stuff.

Cersei plays the Game well, but her angry loss of control when she is opposed (for example, when Tyrion arrives as Hand and when Joffrey asks about Robert's out of wedlock children) is a major weakness that could be exploited. I do think she is finally realizing Joffrey is a dangerous psychopath beyond her control which frightens her. the question I have is whether Tyrion can learn to play the Game and exert at least a minimal control over Joffrey. I love the two quotes from Cersei that sum up the Game: "When you play the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die" and "Power is power." We now have four Kings (five if you count Daenerys who is not in a position to play the Game at this time), which is removed from the Game first?

You really should just take notes of every family and all their names so you can look back at your notes when you need to remember so you don't continue to get confused and lost

This show's overwhelming enough without hour-plus long lore videos. I wouldn't sweat it, or even read the comments here, to be honest. None of us had those videos or hundreds of people trying to get our attention with lore, corrections, and trivia, that will be answered in later episodes anyway (spoilers anyone?), and we all enjoyed the show just fine. People need to chill out a bit.

    Histories and lore?

  • @Flesharrower
    @Flesharrower 15 днів тому +1

As Winter approaches, magic comes back to the world. The White Walkers have risen in the North, they have a King (you'll discover soon enough). Bran is a capital P "Power" but he's only discovering that, you'll discover his abilities as he does, you'll learn that much quicker. The Targaryen family (Daenarys) are the "blood of the Dragon" which is why she was fireproof when she walked into the Drogo's pyre, when they are at the hatching of a dragon they bond with it, so she is now bonded to three dragons, she also is a capital P "Power". The Targaryens and the dragons originate in Valyria, which was destroyed long ago in a cataclysm.
The Old Gods are Nature gods: tree and stone and river etc, the dominant religion of northern Westeros. The New Gods are the Seven: the Father, the Mother, the Warrior, the Maiden etc, and the dominant religion of southern Westeros. Both these religions are polytheistic. The Red Priestess, Melisandre, worships the Lord of Light and seems to garner some power from him (we discover later, quite a lot of power). A monotheistic religion from foreign shores.
As the story progresses it's mostly concerned with natural politics, war and intrigue. At a certain point the balance flips and it becomes mostly about supernatural forces arrayed against each other and normal people.
It's a lot to take in and if you're a reader I can't recommend the books strongly enough. They have a much better ability at filling in the back story of every character and event.

GoT was the most talked about show for 4 or 5 years. I talked about it with most of my friends AND my parents. Nothing captured the culture like it. I think it's the show most responsible for the Reactor industry. Maybe the last big show that everyone watched at the same time

Game of Thrones is a rollercoaster series. It starts of slow (you're learning the backgrounds, history.. and getting touches of what the series is about).. it gets good as it builds up, it becomes great as the series gets into full swing leaving you on the edge of your seat.. and by the end as the ride is coming to an end leaves you deflated.

Umm, don’t feel silly or worry about what we think… when episodes released we’d have a week to rewatch before the next… then a year to ponder what could happen from there on. You seem a little frazzled, it’s worthwhile to rewatch if possible, maybe listen to the official podcast from each episode (non official ones do sometimes drop spoilers without warning ⚠️)

Please Don't Judge Sansa for kissing Joffrey's butt, she is in survival mode. I find it admirable that she is trying to survive and what should be an impossible position. Her father's head was cut off right before her her sister is missing her brother joined the Night's Watch and her other older brother and mother are being charged with treason just like Ned Stark and she's still trying to survive. Personally you can tell in her voice that she is a robot saying these words just to survive

"I wonder ... the timeframe of raising a dragon" - you don't raise a dragon. They get bigger as they eat everything around you but never smarter or better behaved. Stupid things. So dumb you can keep them in wooden cages ;(

You have never experienced the depths of despair, the heights of anger, the intensity of anger, and the pureness of hate until you have watched the complete series of Game of Thrones. I have seen people shoot their TVs, cry for weeks and months on end, swear to never watch another episode again, only to come back and watch the next episode, and hate actors for the characters they are portraying.... Just saying.... No series has had as much influence on UA-cam than GoT. There is one episode that people who had watched an episode already, filmed their friends reacting to it, then posted it on youtube. You may figure out which one, but it went viral even as the show was becoming the most pirated show ever! It is why Reaction videos are a thing even this far out into UA-cam's existence and 12 years after the 2nd season of the series! The second season is really where the series starts to "take off." The budget really starts to kick in, though, in season 3. Having said that, season 2 is really where certain characters begin to distinguish themselves. You will come to really love some, love their stories, and come to really hate others...

You’re going to confuse yourself by listening to so many suggestions about the lores etc (yea watch it in your free time unless you’re just curious about specific details). Just watch the series and it’ll make sense as you go. I thought the first 2 seasons were full of information but I began to catch on the more I watched

Piece of advice, don’t take in people’s thoughts of the seasons as objective. Make your own judgements on the seasons, it’s really one complete story anyway. I would look at the last two seasons as one, split into two parts.
