Thanks for the video. My liftmaster garage door remote opener and keypad only works when opener light goes off after 4.5 minute. The bulb is incandescent, the batteries are fresh. Any suggestions?
Great video. I had the liftmaster 1998 model when we moved into the house. Never used remote control before and the wall control worked fine. I plan to use the remotes in the near future but it won't program to the remote (new battery, it worked on my previous house and also the right model for the current house). LED lights are not used. I purchased 2 new universal remote controllers and still could not program them. What do you suggest that I can troubleshoot the issue? Thank for the help
Hello Doug, I’ve had many cases where the circuit board would not accept programming at all. The result was either a new unit or new circuit board but that would be your call to make of course ( 20+ years I’d say calls for a new motor )
Had garage opener for 8 years. All of a sudden it will not pair to my car nor either remotes. The door will open when pushing button on wall in garage. I don't think it's the batteries in remote because the lights come on when pushing the buttons. Do you think I need to replace the bulb? I tried pairing via the learn button but no luck.
Any thoughts on why remotes don’t work in cold weather? Brand new batteries. Works fine until temps drop to 30ish and then will only work if you hold the remote right up to the top of the door.
@@GarageDoorGuidance i have same issue, replaced with non led lights and replaced new batteries but nothing working. The issue is only seen when coming into driveway and opening. It does open only when i place art certain angle
Hello, I changed to battery in my remote, now it works intermittently! I opened it back up to make sure all the connections are good, they are. I am at a loss! Any suggestions?
Another frequent problem with intermittent operation is a bad connection on the circuit board where the wire harness connects to the circuit board. There are about 10 wires in that wire harness, anyone of which via loose connection to the circuit board will cause intermittent operation. Oftentimes the connector pins on the circuit board will have a broken solder joint & just need resoldering. It happened to me last week. I touched up the solder joints on the transformer as well with my soldering iron.
i bought a house, the remote the old owner left for me was not working. I've tried another remote from my old house (i had several for me the wife and kids), reprogramed the remotes, none of them are working and the battery is fine as they worked on my old one. I don't know what's going on, i might need to call Chamberlain. My opener is the same as yours, does it have the "rolling codes" security feature, that's the last thing i can think of, i'm not sure if i should go and buy a new remote
Any way you can send me an email with 2 pictures ? One of the remotes you have and one of the unit? ( to see if they’re even compatible ) otherwise you can try to get a universal remote and program it. Worst case it doesn’t work you can return it (:
So my remote doesn't want to work if I was outside w garage door closed,so it's not transmitting through door. If door is open already I can stand outside where car would be and remote will close door. Also if I'm in garage remote will open and close garage door. Do you think its remote or could it possibly be something with transmitter in garage unit. I did change battery in remote and have proper lightbulb in unit. What do you think?
My remote quit working so I replaced the battery. Still no luck so I bought new remote and programed it. It worked once. The car button remote in my wifes car still works every time. What should I try next?
The batteries on my remotes are fine. I press the learn button and the light comes on but it doesn’t connect the remotes. I’ve tried everything idk what to do
On some older garage door openers the circuit board can stop accepting anything ( sign of a bad board ) you either change the board or replace the unit in that case. ( based on my experiences )
Hello, I removed the LED bulbs no effect, new batteries no effect, Tried to reprogram by pushing the reset button? no effect...My wife's remote opener went out the same time! Scretching my head!
Same here. New batteries, reprogramming didn’t work, I have the right bulbs. Nothing has worked. Hard wired remotes work fine. We did have a lightning storm the night before this happened. Could this have been the problem?
In response to those of you with this issue and absolutely no fix there are another two things I’ve run into. First some of the garages installed new LED lighting all around the garage and that completely killed the signal. The other more serious diagnosis was a bad circuit / logic board. In the case of a lightning storm and power outage that would very likely be the case.
If you are all still trying to figure it out…it’s the logic board. I had same issues. Bought new logic board for like $80 total and replaced if quick and easy. All works great now.
Liftmaster remotes are tuned to a frequency (mine is supposed to be 315mhz). according to information I found on the FCC website regarding this product it should not be off frequency by more than .1%. (315khz) Using an SDR radio I found mine was off frequency at 315.5 mhz (500khz off frequency). re-tuning it is very touchy but can be done.
Need help. Programmed my remote and when i click it the light responds with the remote. The door just does not open or close with the remote. It opens on the remote on thw wall. I have tries everythiy. Help please
Hi! So none of these are my issue, but I am wondering if you can still help me. I got a universal garage door remote for a house I am renting. I pressed the red button on the garage door motor, and then I pressed the button on my universal remote. The little light inside by the red button began flashing, and I released both buttons. Now when I press the universal remote, I can see the little light flashing with every press on the back of the actual opener, but nothing happens with my garage door. When I press any of the other buttons on the universal remote, no light flashes on the opener. It seems as though it’s picking up the signal of my universal remote, but no movement. Thanks in advance if you have any suggestions!
Hi, I really enjoy your videos. I have a LiftMaster #2280C with #973LM remotes. Recently both remotes would only work within close range. I changed the batteries in the remotes but that didn't solve the problem. I also cleaned and straightened the antenna wire. I'm assuming it is not the circuit board because the remotes do work if I'm about 20 feet away. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
@@GarageDoorGuidance Thanks for responding! I don't think I have LEDs in the opener. The bulbs that are in the opener have been in there for a few years - way before I was experiencing any issues. My issues started within the last few weeks. Just to be safe, I will replace them tomorrow with new incandescents. I do have a flood light outside the garage that is LED but that has also been there for a few years. Should I also reprogram the remotes ? Thanks so much for your help. You are very kind.
@@artriumph any street light work done recently ? There’s some interference coming from something for sure. Time of day make any difference ? You can try to reprogram to see if it helps but I think it would more likely be frequency related

Hi! I was trying to program my Homelink in my car and somehow "erased" the memory in my opener (I have a 3 car garage - remote still works with two doors but not with one). I've tried to reprogram the remote but it's not working - any suggestions? I press the learn button and then within 20 seconds press the coordinating button on the remote - remote still won't open the door. Help!
It should be as simple as that however depending on what motor you have could be more going on. What brand opener ? And do you happen to know how old that is ?
We've only had 1 remote since we bought this place a few years ago. I recently got a new remote so we don't have to share 1 anymore & we were beyond thrilled! However, our initial glee was short lived when we realized that only 1 remote will work at a time.🙁 When the new 1 arrived & we programmed it--it worked fine but then original wouldn't work. So we programmed the original & then new 1 wouldn't work. So basically we can't get both openers to work at same time. We've tried resetting/clearing out the memory & starting fresh--still the same issue. Only one opener will work at a time. It's almost like as soon as we program one opener--it seems to disable the other opener. Both are functionable on their own-just not at same time. Any suggestions would be sooooo appreciated-we spent a good portion of our holiday weekend watching UA-cam videos trying to find the fix. Well, the weekend is over & we're still here😞- searching for a Garage Door Opener Guru, who we promise to worship forever, if he or she can provide us with salvation in the form of a solution to our Hellish dilemma!Pleeeeease.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Are you holding the button at all on the garage door opener ? ( it should only be pressed when programming ) which opener do you have as well I can try to help figure this out. Never saw black line as in your comment. Kinda funky for sure !
Yes, I followed the directions by pushing the button on the back of the main unit and then on the remote. The problem is that now that I bought a SECOND remote--we can't get both remotes programmed to work at same time. As soon as one gets programmed and is working--the other won't work. It doesn't matter in what order we program them in or if we do a complete reset--only ONE remote opener will work at a time. It's almost like as soon as one remote gets programmed--it disables the other. And they are the exact same remote. One is just new. Model GD-R12 ROUND w/3 buttons...One large and 2 small. So we know they both work because we have no problem programming them and getting each one to work....but they will NOT both (hold the code) or work at the same time. The second one gets programmed and is working--the other stops working and does nothing and vice versa. I have read so many articles and watched videos on this and most just deal with getting the remote openers programmed to work....that's not my problem. I can do that. Lol....I just can't get TWO to (hold the code) or stay programmed at once. If you have ANY suggestions-I would be soooo appreciative. Thank you for responding. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Best I can advise is to completely erase everything by holding the learn button for 7-10 seconds. Sounds like you may have already done that but all I can guess is that there are already too many items programmed to it and it kicks off the last 2. What type of garage door opener have you got? That may help me as well. Sorry for getting back to you a bit later this is a bit of a side gig haha.
@@GarageDoorGuidance yep, cleared the codes out. Tried same from there. Only one at a time can be programmed. #1 will be working fine. As soon as #2 is programmed and working--#1 stops working completely and vice versa. I have a Craftsman 1/2 H.R. w/red/orange learn button. And no need to apologize--I just appreciate SOMEONE trying to help me out. More than you know!🙏🙏
My door won't open. I replaced the batteries in the remote, but still unsuccessful. I unplugged the garage door opener and back in, the light comes on, so I know that still works. I tried pushing the purple button to reprogram the key. Not sure what else I can try.
I don't know if you're still having the issue but I was running into a similar thing. I determined that the logic board was shorted somewhere, and that can often make the opener's RF receiver stop responding properly. It's something to consider, especially if your garage doors aren't plugged into a surge protector. A power surge might have wrecked it.
@@JustinLauu I replaced just the circuit board on each garage door motor and they both work very consistently now. Replugged the doors into a wall mounted surge protector to prevent the problem in the future.
There has been cases where the logic just stops receiving, this would be my best guess. Replacement board or a new opener may be necessary depending on how old the unit is
I have just programmed a new remote and it works as long as the bulb on opener is off. It is the original bulb, and not an LED bulb! What could be the problem?
I recently bought 4 remotes. 3 of them are connected, but the garage door opener won’t learn the the 4th one. Any idea why? - all 4 remotes are the same - no bulb present - i tried resetting the door opener and starting with learning the 4th remote, but without succes. -the garage door opener clearly receives the signal, because the led lights up when pressing the 4th remote
@@GarageDoorGuidance Hi, thank you for the swift response. Yes indeed, I reset the opener multiple times and connected the remotes in different orders. The same one still won’t connect. There is indeed probably something wrong with the 4th one, but it is strange that the led on the opener still blinks when pressing the remote’s buttons. It just won’t ‘learn’ it

@@GarageDoorGuidance Thanks for your response - I have Liftmaster P3TM - 2015 model and Liftmaster 893LM (New one) and Liftmaster375UT both Garage Door Openers stopped working at same time
And you’ve tried to reprogram both yet not accepting the signal? My guess is the circuit board needs to be replaced at that point. Not as common for that unit to be honest
Thanks for the video. My liftmaster garage door remote opener and keypad only works when opener light goes off after 4.5 minute. The bulb is incandescent, the batteries are fresh. Any suggestions?
Try to remove the bulb altogether to see if it helps. Do you have other LED’s in the garage? Try turning them off if you do
Great video.
Thanks for the video. It was the LED! Never would have imagined!
I had compact fluorescents and when I took them out, it would work much better.
If it’s no longer pairing I would assume logic board
@@GarageDoorGuidance which means replacement?
Yes, it’s normally an easy thing to do and I have videos on it as well
Thank you! It was the LED bulbs. I would have never thought of that.
Any thoughts on why remotes don’t work in cold weather? Brand new batteries. Works fine until temps drop to 30ish and then will only work if you hold the remote right up to the top of the door.
Hello Kim, Most likely a weak receiver on the logic board if you’ve tried everything else.
Hi! The battery itself not upside down? Do all the clamps holding the battery make contact?
Another frequent problem with intermittent operation is a bad connection on the circuit board where the wire harness connects to the circuit board. There are about 10 wires in that wire harness, anyone of which via loose connection to the circuit board will cause intermittent operation. Oftentimes the connector pins on the circuit board will have a broken solder joint & just need resoldering. It happened to me last week. I touched up the solder joints on the transformer as well with my soldering iron.
Good tip Paul, most of us won’t go to those lengths but this will definitely be helpful to those that will👍🏻
Hi I have new opener and tried to program it . It doesnt take.. Dont get light flicker or 2 clicks does that mean i have to replace opener
Hello Tom, are you using an original remote for that opener ? Does it work with the control on the wall?
Thank you. Your suggestion worked! So simple. Press that learn and my tranmitter reset.
It was the LED bulbs, wondered why after I changed bulbs it only worked off and on. Thanks for the video
I have double garage doors, both doors open or close at the same time or one goes up and the other goes down any suggestions?
Have you erased everything on one of them ?
Just what I needed! Reprogramming. Done . Thanks !
i bought a house, the remote the old owner left for me was not working.
I know what the problem more likely will be
What are the little sliders with the number 029 do they have to be set at a certain number?
Those are usually force settings, I’d put them at about 5
So my remote doesn't want to work if I was outside w garage door closed,so it's not transmitting through door. If door is open already I can stand outside where car would be and remote will close door. Also if I'm in garage remote will open and close garage door. Do you think its remote or could it possibly be something with transmitter in garage unit. I did change battery in remote and have proper lightbulb in unit. What do you think?
Other led bulbs that might be around or in the garage could also affect this I’d start with that
We actually don't have any of those bulbs. Old unit, bought new about a month ago.
My remote quit working so I replaced the battery. Still no luck so I bought new remote and programed it. It worked once. The car button remote in my wifes car still works every time. What should I try next?
You could try to erase everything and try again ? You may have too many programmed ? I think the limits 6 or so but I could be wrong on that
Thank YOU! You fixed my problem with your simple explanation!
( based on my experiences )
thank you. needed new battery and reprogramming.
Thank you for the information . I solved problem
Perfect! Thanks, this worked with the reset.
Thanks a bunch !!
I extended the antenna 👍👍👍
Hello, I removed the LED bulbs no effect, new batteries no effect, Tried to reprogram by pushing the reset button? no effect...My wife's remote opener went out the same time! Scretching my head!
same thing just happened to us. Both remotes simultaneously quit working.
Any fix?

Help, my neighbors garage door remote switch is now opening my garage door. Any suggestions sir?
If you have a 30 year old garage door opener that’s catching the frequency, you probably need to change yours too
Need help. Programmed my remote and when i click it the light responds with the remote. The door just does not open or close with the remote. It opens on the remote on thw wall. I have tries everythiy. Help please
Are you programming a universal?
Try to take out the lightbulbs ?
Do you have a newer chamberlain universal remote ? All black ? Does this video on reprogramming help at all? ua-cam.com/video/5j4sn1zQMxA/v-deo.html
Thanks for showing a novice how to connect the signal from the remote to the motor.
Thanks.
Hello Joe, have you got LED in the opener or anywhere nearby? That’s usually the culprit in my experience
@@GarageDoorGuidance No streetlights nearby and doesn’t seem to happen at any particular time of day. I also switched off the floodlights but still had the issue.
@@artriumph considering all this information I’d bring the diagnosis to a failing receiver on the logic board itself. Units 18+ years by now based on model number and remote information. Replacement logic board ($125+) or new unit ($200+)
Thank you this fix my problem very simple. Grateful!
Reset button on garage unit did the trick for me
hi there
my question is ,i switched the lights bulb to an extension cord and unplug the receptacle when i move, and then the inside wall switch pad doesn’t work anymore ,all 2 remote works except that wall pad
If the remotes work, the lightbulb likely won’t affect the wall button, more likely the wiring or the switch itself
It worked 👍😊
Help!
I've given up on programming the Homelink in my car - just want the remote working again! Thanks!
It should be as simple as that however depending on what motor you have could be more going on. What brand opener ? And do you happen to know how old that is ?
We've only had 1 remote since we bought this place a few years ago. I recently got a new remote so we don't have to share 1 anymore & we were beyond thrilled! However, our initial glee was short lived when we realized that only 1 remote will work at a time.🙁
When the new 1 arrived & we programmed it--it worked fine but then original wouldn't work.
Can anyone tell me why there are black lines going thru the majority of my question/comment? I've never seen this before. Thanks!
More than you know!🙏🙏
It was the LED bulbs. Thank you for the video.
A power surge might have wrecked it.
alexstone108 did you end up replacing the whole thing?
@@JustinLauu I replaced just the circuit board on each garage door motor and they both work very consistently now. Replugged the doors into a wall mounted surge protector to prevent the problem in the future.
@@alexstone108 thanks for the prompt reply
Sorry I didn’t have access to reply for a while now, thanks Alex for helping him out!
Once I push the reset/learn button the remote blinks yellow light. This is an older model opener , I guess
There has been cases where the logic just stops receiving, this would be my best guess. Replacement board or a new opener may be necessary depending on how old the unit is
Thank you helped me out 🤙
I have just programmed a new remote and it works as long as the bulb on opener is off. It is the original bulb, and not an LED bulb! What could be the problem?
Try to change the bulb anyway? Or remove it altogether to see if it works without it
@@GarageDoorGuidance I removed the bulb and the problem persists without the bulb!
Very interesting, have you installed any lights in the garage at all?
@@GarageDoorGuidance No, there have been a couple of fluorescent bulbs there all the time.
Got it, you can try to change the battery, it may help. Beyond that the next step would be to replace logic board but that’s already getting pricy
I think the problem is the actual remote as the battery is good and the other remote works. What should I do?
Replacement remote likely ? Cheapest universal one at Home Depot is about $25
@@GarageDoorGuidance Amazon has 2 for $13 now
Thank you very , it was very helpful
How about the door sensors on each side at bottom of door?
That could be a problem if you just get flashes / clicks from your opener
I recently bought 4 remotes. 3 of them are connected, but the garage door opener won’t learn the the 4th one. Any idea why?
- all 4 remotes are the same
- no bulb present
- i tried resetting the door opener and starting with learning the 4th remote, but without succes.
-the garage door opener clearly receives the signal, because the led lights up when pressing the 4th remote
Hello Timne, you erased everything and re-tried by starting with that 4th one with no luck correct? Could be a weak or bad unit on that 4th one?
@@GarageDoorGuidance Hi, thank you for the swift response. Yes indeed, I reset the opener multiple times and connected the remotes in different orders. The same one still won’t connect. There is indeed probably something wrong with the 4th one, but it is strange that the led on the opener still blinks when pressing the remote’s buttons. It just won’t ‘learn’ it
I’d probably try a new remote as the other three program just fine. It’s a bit unusual but it wouldn’t surprise me if you did have a bad remote
My remotes only opens but doesn’t close the garage door. Could it be the light 💡??
Try to remove it, but also check your safety sensors
Thank you soo much it worked
mine is a genie door opener. I only see a black button, and when I push it it blinks red. Still not working
The genie programs different, are you trying to program a remote ?
