BEFORE YOU BUY THE OVERPRICED "GARAGE OPENER LED BULBS" READ THIS
The more "modern" LED bulbs are made to work with dimmers, just like the old incandescent lights. In order to make that happen with LED bulbs, they put in the LED bulb a variable square pulse wave generator which is basically very close to a classical variable frequency oscillator.
And that basically, is why SOME LED bulbs interfere with your garage door RF receiver.
The solution to your problem is very simple and very cheap.
Go to the nearest HOME DEPOT store and buy the CHEAP NON-DIMMABLE LED bulbs. TA DAH!
Yes, the only "special" thing about the "special" garage LED bulbs is the huge price mark-up
I didn’t know about the dimmable non dimmable, thanks for the info 👌🏻
Pinned 👍🏻
My remote opens the door but will not close it. What you recommend?
@@johnhardnett2590 have you checked the safety sensors and made sure they’re properly aligned and not covered in cob webs ? It takes very little set the sensors off and you’ll get that issue
Thanks for mentioning the LED bulbs! That was the issue on the built in car remote and 2 spare remotes not actuating the garage door from outside! My son swapped the bulbs to LED. Thank you so much! You save me money and an unnecessary service call!!
I was trying to program the remote for last three days and finally i removed the light it and worked. Thanks a lot.
I love you with was the LED bulb. I checked everything else, bought new remotes, had some one look at it...I am so thankful, I was just ready to order a new one.
Your tip on the LED light bulb interfering with the remote solved my issue. Symptom was remotes would not work for few minutes after operating the door, then would start working again. I was concerned the motor was starting to go bad but did some searches and thankfully found your video. Installed non-dimmable bulb and garage door remotes work perfectly again. Thank you so much!!
Thanks for the tips. All my remotes stopped working. Never knew that there was a reset for the remotes.
Never had that happen before.
Good to go now!
This is by far the best video I found to help me get my remote working. Thanks a million.
Thank you! I had the same signal problem on one of my garage door remotes. I setup the remote on my new car and had the same issue. My daughter bugs me about it. After watched this video, I straightened the wire (it was curly before) and changed the light blub. It is working like a brand new. I can open the garage door before entering my driveway. I feel so great and my daughter does not bug me anymore.😁👋🍾🍷💯🎉
Thank you for making this video! none of our remotes were working, and neither did the keypad (which is a remote also). I watched your video and sure enough, we have LED bulbs. I removed the bulbs and all the buttons worked fine! now I need to get some non-LED bulbs. THANKS so much, you save me $100s on a professional.
Great video! Pressed the bottom and my garage door opened immediately with the remote. Thanks!!!
Thanks for your help , you saved me from having to spend $ on a simple fix and it was just the antenna. Thanks again
Thank you!! I was shocked I was able to fix this myself after watching your video-- just needed reprogramming!! So simple, but I had no clue!
OMG... just replaced the ancient CFL bulbs in our opener for some nice new LED's. A couple days later I noticed the opener no longer worked once we were outside the garage to CLOSE (but it did work to OPEN when coming home). Weird. I thought it was a new circuit board or something. I was so close to buying a new Liftmaster. Well thanks to your video, I removed the LED's and sure enough that was the problem. You saved me a bundle. THANK YOU!!!!
Hello. Just took out my LED bulbs and wallya!! Everthing works again. THANK YOU!!!
My problem was the lightbulbs. Once I removed them, the remote worked! Thank you!!
I removed the light bulb and my range worked! Thank you
Wow, I was shocked when I found out it was my LED light that was interfering with my new remote that I was trying to program. Thank you so much.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The removal of led lights worked. You saved my $$$. The garage guy said the unit needs to be replaced. Thank you so much!!!
Love to hear that (:
what a fucking jackass garage guy smh
Thank you, Thank you the halogen light bulbs were making it not close. I switched out to regular light bulbs and it works again, thank you so very much!!
Thank you. Your suggestion worked! So simple. Press that learn and my tranmitter reset.
Hey Dude! Mind you I never call anybody Dude... but you are the Dude. Spent most of yesterday trying to get my remotes working. Gave up till I watched your video. LED's and garage openers for some reason, have a conflict. Replaced LED with incandescent and was an immediate fix. What this guy said covers my experience well.

Ok so thanks to your video, I determined the problems were with the new LED bulbs that I installed a few weeks ago. I had soldered in a new antenna, changed the batteries on my remotes, reprogrammed all the remotes to no avail, but changing the bulbs did the trick!! Thanks
Can't thank you enough!
Love the comment haha glad to help!!
Thank you for the light bulb tip, having trouble with the range of both garage door openers. The only thing that changed recently was the installation of CFL and LED bulbs... which nuked the range due to electrical interference of the CFL and LED electronics. Ordered LED light bulbs that work specifically for garage door openers, should come tomorrow. (1-11-21) I will report back with my findings/results. Thank you for this video, truly. 👍
You didn’t report back!
OMG! So specific and so well stated...all the possible problems. Mine turned out to be the little wire which I guess is the antenna. It was covered in cobwebs! Hilarious! And I was about to spend some big bucks on getting someone out to my house. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I hope your videos make some money for you since they're saving all of us a lot of money. God bless.
Couple bucks here and there can’t complain (: Happy to help !
I took the cobwebs off mine nada. replaced the batteires in two remotes. nada. reprogramed, nada. It was the module in the lifter that went bad and were talking 250 to replace, nada. Just bought the entire new system problem solved
Thank YOU! You fixed my problem with your simple explanation!
Reprogrammed my remote in a jiffy, straight forward and quick. Now i'm no longer annoyed! Thanks Buddy
How did you reprogram the remote?
Thank you so much!!! Fixed it by watching your video in 2021….
Thanks for the vid! And again - it was the freaking BULBS!!! I had no idea that could be a problem till your vid. Pulled them out and viola both the remote and the car remote work again. Sheesh.
Just what I needed! Reprogramming. Done . Thanks !
Thank you so much. I just replaced LED light bulb to regular non-LED light bulb and my remote key pad is now working again.
Thank you for the video. After much time trying to figure out what was wrong, I came across this video. It was the LED bulb all along.
Thanks for the video. It was the LED! Never would have imagined!
I had compact fluorescents and when I took them out, it would work much better.
Omg your actually right!!! it was my 💡 I just switched it out and wala.. thanks bro
This was VERY helpful Just to had to "reprogram"/reconnect the remotes. Thanks
Thank you this fix my problem very simple. Grateful!
You're a genius. Thank you. I just needed to reprogram it.
I punched the button. And it worked. Thank you.
Thank you! It was the LED bulbs. I would have never thought of that.
At 1:46, that did the trick! Saved me a lot of time and money.
Thank you I tried everything except bulb which I replaced recently let me see if that’s the case, I’ll let you know. Thx 🙏🏼
Perfect! Thanks, this worked with the reset.
Thanks a bunch !!
I extended the antenna 👍👍👍
Reprogrammed works thanks you just saved me a couple 100 I’m sure
Nice vid.
To your comment about checking the battery, I add that older openers may have had a wireless and keypad module added on. The remote has a battery, but so might the wireless unit itself. So check both.
Thanks I know some, but not all. Any added advice is appreciated
Ok so thanks to your video, I determined the problems were with the new LED bulbs that I installed a few weeks ago. I had soldered in a new antenna, changed the batteries on my remotes, reprogrammed all the remotes to no avail, but changing the bulbs did the trick!! Thanks
Thank you very , it was very helpful
You saved me $$$ 😮 led interference with the RF receiver.
It was the light bulb! Thank you kind sir!
Saved me $100. Thank you!
You fixed it! The unit just had to relearn the code.
It was the LED bulbs, wondered why after I changed bulbs it only worked off and on. Thanks for the video
Thanks buddy!!! You’ve helped me so much!!!
Pushing the “set” button works after changing the battery… 😊👍🏾thanks
Thank you helped me out 🤙
I had to call my garage door company to come out. I tried all the common fixes for my remote and Nada.
Like I guessed, the module in my liftmaster of 17 years went bad and I thought the cost of fixing that versus a new system, just get the whole new system. Why throw 275 for a temp fix to spend 575 for a new system with two remotes, the outside garage remote and a new safety light system, a no brainer. Besides the original came with the house so I didnt buy it directly. I thank all those experts who share there expertise, in my case they convinced me it wasnt just and easy fix. I was prepared for the worst knowing I tried what they said and it didnt work so were talking some serious problem.
Yep, likely the receiver on the board. You went through all the right motions I think and ended with the right result. 👍🏼
Thank you soo much it worked
Thank you for the information . I solved problem
Thank you!!!
thank you. needed new battery and reprogramming.
It was the LED bulbs. Thank you for the video.
Thank you, I’ll try all of your ideas. My car/regular remote work fine during the day, but not at night! Any idea why it doesn’t work at night?
Is it possible you have LED lights that turn on at night ? That would make sense to me
I had range and intermittent opening issues. Even after changing bulbs, batteries, reprogrammed all devices and resoldered connections no improvements. I finally purchased a new receiver logic assembly for a little over 100$ and installed which fixed the problems.
Hi John,
Where did you buy the receiver logic assembly? I think I have the same exact problem that you had.
@@hikemaissian7631 I looked on line and also from a local garage door repair business. The local shop had it in stock and could pick up the same day. Pretty easy change over and saved myself the service call and labor fee.
Green button worked! Thanks!
Thanks for the video. My liftmaster garage door remote opener and keypad only works when opener light goes off after 4.5 minute. The bulb is incandescent, the batteries are fresh. Any suggestions?
Try to remove the bulb altogether to see if it helps. Do you have other LED’s in the garage? Try turning them off if you do
Great video. I had the liftmaster 1998 model when we moved into the house. Never used remote control before and the wall control worked fine. I plan to use the remotes in the near future but it won't program to the remote (new battery, it worked on my previous house and also the right model for the current house). LED lights are not used. I purchased 2 new universal remote controllers and still could not program them. What do you suggest that I can troubleshoot the issue? Thank for the help
Hello Doug, I’ve had many cases where the circuit board would not accept programming at all. The result was either a new unit or new circuit board but that would be your call to make of course ( 20+ years I’d say calls for a new motor )
It worked 👍😊
What are the little sliders with the number 029 do they have to be set at a certain number?
Those are usually force settings, I’d put them at about 5
Use a heat gun on the circuit board on the soldered side. I tried everything else and that worked. I used the low setting, about 4” from the board for about 10 seconds. It gets too hot to hold. I did remove the battery first. I have a neighbor who fixes big screen t.v.’s this way.
Very interesting! This worked for you?
Another frequent problem with intermittent operation is a bad connection on the circuit board where the wire harness connects to the circuit board. There are about 10 wires in that wire harness, anyone of which via loose connection to the circuit board will cause intermittent operation. Oftentimes the connector pins on the circuit board will have a broken solder joint & just need resoldering. It happened to me last week. I touched up the solder joints on the transformer as well with my soldering iron.
Good tip Paul, most of us won’t go to those lengths but this will definitely be helpful to those that will👍🏻
Reset button on garage unit did the trick for me
Great video; my two remotes just stopped working; new batteries; turned off all LEDs nearby; bought new remote; cannot reprogram them- no "clicking sounds/blinking lights"; my outside wall remote(not wired) and internal car remote both working just fine; I was able to reprogram the outside non-wired wall remote. Program button does light up; any suggestions? Thanks again
If you were able to reprogram the keypad but not a remote my question would be is this the correct remote for that opener? I could assist better with pictures of the remotes and opener if you’re interested. Email is garagedoorguidance@yahoo
Hi I have new opener and tried to program it . It doesnt take.. Dont get light flicker or 2 clicks does that mean i have to replace opener
Hello Tom, are you using an original remote for that opener ? Does it work with the control on the wall?
So my remote doesn't want to work if I was outside w garage door closed,so it's not transmitting through door. If door is open already I can stand outside where car would be and remote will close door. Also if I'm in garage remote will open and close garage door. Do you think its remote or could it possibly be something with transmitter in garage unit. I did change battery in remote and have proper lightbulb in unit. What do you think?
Other led bulbs that might be around or in the garage could also affect this I’d start with that
We actually don't have any of those bulbs. Old unit, bought new about a month ago.
Need help. Programmed my remote and when i click it the light responds with the remote. The door just does not open or close with the remote. It opens on the remote on thw wall. I have tries everythiy. Help please
Are you programming a universal?
Try to take out the lightbulbs ?
Hello, I changed to battery in my remote, now it works intermittently! I opened it back up to make sure all the connections are good, they are. I am at a loss! Any suggestions?
Hi! The battery itself not upside down? Do all the clamps holding the battery make contact?
hi there
my question is ,i switched the lights bulb to an extension cord and unplug the receptacle when i move, and then the inside wall switch pad doesn’t work anymore ,all 2 remote works except that wall pad
If the remotes work, the lightbulb likely won’t affect the wall button, more likely the wiring or the switch itself
I have double garage doors, both doors open or close at the same time or one goes up and the other goes down any suggestions?
Have you erased everything on one of them ?
Hi! I was trying to program my Homelink in my car and somehow "erased" the memory in my opener (I have a 3 car garage - remote still works with two doors but not with one). I've tried to reprogram the remote but it's not working - any suggestions? I press the learn button and then within 20 seconds press the coordinating button on the remote - remote still won't open the door. Help!
I've given up on programming the Homelink in my car - just want the remote working again! Thanks!
It should be as simple as that however depending on what motor you have could be more going on. What brand opener ? And do you happen to know how old that is ?
My remote quit working so I replaced the battery. Still no luck so I bought new remote and programed it. It worked once. The car button remote in my wifes car still works every time. What should I try next?
You could try to erase everything and try again ? You may have too many programmed ? I think the limits 6 or so but I could be wrong on that
Hi! So none of these are my issue, but I am wondering if you can still help me. I got a universal garage door remote for a house I am renting. I pressed the red button on the garage door motor, and then I pressed the button on my universal remote. The little light inside by the red button began flashing, and I released both buttons. Now when I press the universal remote, I can see the little light flashing with every press on the back of the actual opener, but nothing happens with my garage door. When I press any of the other buttons on the universal remote, no light flashes on the opener. It seems as though it’s picking up the signal of my universal remote, but no movement. Thanks in advance if you have any suggestions!
Do you have a newer chamberlain universal remote ? All black ? Does this video on reprogramming help at all? ua-cam.com/video/5j4sn1zQMxA/v-deo.html
Thanks for nice Video I tried new Remote is not Paring but my Garage door only operates with fixed switch on wall not with Remote
What type of unit do you have and which remote are you using to program ?
@@GarageDoorGuidance Thanks for your response - I have Liftmaster P3TM - 2015 model and Liftmaster 893LM (New one) and Liftmaster375UT both Garage Door Openers stopped working at same time
And you’ve tried to reprogram both yet not accepting the signal? My guess is the circuit board needs to be replaced at that point. Not as common for that unit to be honest
Do all merlin remotes open garage doors
I had a green one thats nkt working
But now i have a blue one that wont pair up
Can anyone help
Do you mean chamberlain? What kind of a garage door opener are you trying to program to ?
LED bulbs product 300 to 400 mhz radio signals that interfere with garage door opener signals. need to get receiving antenna away from the lights. I too live in a steel building. I had to use grounded coax cable extended to the outside of the building. I stripped away 9" of grounded exterior cable, mounted through insulated bracket not allowing the center 9" wire to touch ground. Use aluminum tape on antenna wire that is not covered by ground inside the building. solder connections. Antenna length is determined by wave length, only need 1/4 wave. Grounded exterior of the coax cable is what does the trick.
The batteries on my remotes are fine. I press the learn button and the light comes on but it doesn’t connect the remotes. I’ve tried everything idk what to do
On some older garage door openers the circuit board can stop accepting anything ( sign of a bad board ) you either change the board or replace the unit in that case. ( based on my experiences )
Any thoughts on why remotes don’t work in cold weather? Brand new batteries. Works fine until temps drop to 30ish and then will only work if you hold the remote right up to the top of the door.
Hello Kim, Most likely a weak receiver on the logic board if you’ve tried everything else.
@@GarageDoorGuidance i have same issue, replaced with non led lights and replaced new batteries but nothing working. The issue is only seen when coming into driveway and opening. It does open only when i place art certain angle
i bought a house, the remote the old owner left for me was not working. I've tried another remote from my old house (i had several for me the wife and kids), reprogramed the remotes, none of them are working and the battery is fine as they worked on my old one. I don't know what's going on, i might need to call Chamberlain. My opener is the same as yours, does it have the "rolling codes" security feature, that's the last thing i can think of, i'm not sure if i should go and buy a new remote
Any way you can send me an email with 2 pictures ? One of the remotes you have and one of the unit? ( to see if they’re even compatible ) otherwise you can try to get a universal remote and program it. Worst case it doesn’t work you can return it (:
I know what the problem more likely will be
Liftmaster remotes are tuned to a frequency (mine is supposed to be 315mhz). according to information I found on the FCC website regarding this product it should not be off frequency by more than .1%. (315khz) Using an SDR radio I found mine was off frequency at 315.5 mhz (500khz off frequency). re-tuning it is very touchy but can be done.
🤯
mine is a genie door opener. I only see a black button, and when I push it it blinks red. Still not working
The genie programs different, are you trying to program a remote ?
Had garage opener for 8 years. All of a sudden it will not pair to my car nor either remotes. The door will open when pushing button on wall in garage. I don't think it's the batteries in remote because the lights come on when pushing the buttons. Do you think I need to replace the bulb? I tried pairing via the learn button but no luck.
If it’s no longer pairing I would assume logic board
@@GarageDoorGuidance which means replacement?
Yes, it’s normally an easy thing to do and I have videos on it as well
Worked
Thanks for showing a novice how to connect the signal from the remote to the motor.
Help, my neighbors garage door remote switch is now opening my garage door. Any suggestions sir?
If you have a 30 year old garage door opener that’s catching the frequency, you probably need to change yours too
Saved
My garage door opener would not work when I switched out Light Bulb it worked
My garage door open n closes fine with the button on the wall but not with any of the 3 remotes(I changed the batteries and reprogrammed them) still won’t open or close with them
Won’t do it from any distance? Try to erase all the memory and start fresh?
It was the LED! Thanks so much !!!!
My remote used to work even I changed to LED, but it stopped working ☹️ found out the battery went bad I changed it I have 3 remotes none works I tried changing bulb even no bulb still no luck, unplugged the garage motor plagued it back didn’t work
If it’s not being accepted by the motor anymore that would point to the circuit board going bad, might need a new board at that point.. if the opener is 15+ years it might be better to replace the whole thing
How about the door sensors on each side at bottom of door?
That could be a problem if you just get flashes / clicks from your opener
Once I push the reset/learn button the remote blinks yellow light. This is an older model opener , I guess
There has been cases where the logic just stops receiving, this would be my best guess. Replacement board or a new opener may be necessary depending on how old the unit is
My door won't open. I replaced the batteries in the remote, but still unsuccessful. I unplugged the garage door opener and back in, the light comes on, so I know that still works. I tried pushing the purple button to reprogram the key.
Not sure what else I can try.
I don't know if you're still having the issue but I was running into a similar thing. I determined that the logic board was shorted somewhere, and that can often make the opener's RF receiver stop responding properly. It's something to consider, especially if your garage doors aren't plugged into a surge protector. A power surge might have wrecked it.
alexstone108 did you end up replacing the whole thing?
@@JustinLauu I replaced just the circuit board on each garage door motor and they both work very consistently now. Replugged the doors into a wall mounted surge protector to prevent the problem in the future.
@@alexstone108 thanks for the prompt reply
Sorry I didn’t have access to reply for a while now, thanks Alex for helping him out!
My remote works to open the garage, but not to close, even if I stand next to the receiver. After debugging I determined if the light on the unit is set to on the remote won't work. I figured I could just remove the bulbs, but after removing it still did not fix it. I am stumped. I have bought a new remote, reprogrammed it, but still striking out. If I switch the light switch on the wall to off, then the remote works. Any suggestions?
That light switch you put flick off, has it been changed recently ? Is it LED ?
@@GarageDoorGuidance This occurs with a light bulb in or out. I read a comment where someone was experiencing this and they suggested unplugging the unit, erasing all codes and then reprogramming. Just odd that it still refuses to close even with no light bulb.
What about the safety sensors ? Are they both on and solid ?
@@GarageDoorGuidance Yep, safety sensors look good and are working. Clicker works if I switch the light off from the control panel. Again, no light bulbs in the sockets though.
