    Doesn't make any sense. "How to put tension back on your garage door springs" and the very first thing you show is how to reinstall the side cables??? (which is what you do when you change your springs for new ones and undo the side cables). This video doesn't make any sense. Beware out there.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance

      When you have a single spring with no tension, the cables are almost always off, and even if they aren’t off they’ll be loose and just hanging there. They need to be in the same position on both sides. This is obviously not going to be the video for EVERY scenario, so every video you watch should be taken with a grain of salt.

    The video part matches exactly with what I see and what I can do with the unit in my garage. My problem is that the app then asks me to choose the LED displayed on my device, but the picture of the device looks like nothing I have. It looks like the old style hub I used to have before I bought the garage door opener with the wifi functionality built in. All I have is the garage door opener unit and then the device by my door to my house that I press to open/close the door. So I can follow the video part, but the app doesn't seem to match my system. Any ideas?

    The change actually does three different things for the Motor.First It spreads the chain. Second, it holds some of the weight of the chain, and third, it keeps the chain in line with the sprocket. It will work without it, but some motors will be noticeably noisier.

      I'm on the latest iOS, which is what I assumed was messing me up, but then something random happened. Someone came home and opened one of the garage doors. As soon as this happened the network popped up as available in my list and I connected to it and could then go through the app's wizard to get connected to my new wifi network. Prior to this I had tried using "other network" in Wifi settings and specifying a network witout security settings. I have no idea what weird combination worked but clearly I got lucky.

    My opener has a spindle on both the motor end and the door end. My question is placement of the new chain on the two sprockets. Should the slack be equal on both sides before putting it on the motor end and before tightening? If not, how does one determine the correct position of the chain on the door end and the motor end before tightening? I haven't found a single video that mentions this issue.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance 18 днів тому

      The end at the garage door side should spin freely, as you tighten the slack will even out. One side might be tighter than the other but that will likely be because of the position of the carriage. Your main question is where does the trolley belong before putting the chain back on and tightening it. I usually “trip” the sensors by pressing the button and walking in front of them so the motor will travel to the fully open position. Then your carriage belongs at the back ( by the motor head ). Put the chain on, tighten it and from there you will make your minor adjustments with the limit knobs

    • @batcrazysa3189
      @batcrazysa3189 18 днів тому

      @@GarageDoorGuidance Not asking about the trolly. I was only asking about the chain (Mine is a full chain not a chain/cable). My openers are from 1975 so no sensors (probably need to put some on to be code complient). I'll try what I think you are tell me: It's ok tat all the slack in the chain, before I put the chain back on to the sprocket, can hang down only on the right side. I will face the garage door as I stand on my ladder that is positioned behind the motor so I can put the chain back on the sprocket (motor spindle). Then tighten the chain until the slack is gone and chain is tight again.

    Thanks for making this video. Adjustment of door-building makes perfect sense with the brackets you show, but my garage door is 1/2" away from my wall and the brackets don't have an adjustment (well, the top and bottom only do have ~1/4" which is not enough). The other brackets are factory spot welded to the tracks. I'm guessing there's no way to adjust these -- but let me know if you've seen this and have an idea. I'm thinking I may buy 1/2" wood strip to stick in the gap to prevent insects, snails, and mice from wandering in. (Also, I don't have a large center spring. I have a small spring on each side. Maybe this is a really old (40+ years) wooden door?)

    Great video. Now for the question about something you did 5 years ago. QQ, what did you notice as the issue that precipitated you deciding it was the logic board? My old craftsman after a series of power surges reached the point where it will only move forward or back a half inch. It also doesn't seem to recognize the backup battery which is leading me to think its the logic board and not the motor/travel module.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance Місяць тому

      If it was only the back in forth I’d agree with travel module but since the battery is no longer recognized id definitely lean logic board. Just about every one I do is case by case. Hearing you’ve had several power surges I think it’s safe to assume some part of the board is fried. ( it’s possible the travel module is also toast though )
