All homes in the US cannot be made safe, homes in the US are 99% wood. Not like in Germany. In Germany they are all made of reinforced concrete, even the roofs are made of reinforced concrete. That's why I find such videos pointless especially for US purposes. In the USA you take a chainsaw and cut through the wall, you are in the house in 1 minute. And you can completely forget the windows and doors in the USA. Wooden doors with thin sheet metal. And interior doors are only made of compressed wood. OMG when I saw that in the US, wooowww I have no words for it. That they allow something like that? These houses are so unsafe and all made of wood. Most houses fall apart in 50 years. Why don't people in the USA build their houses out of reinforced concrete and basements with reinforced concrete? I kicked in my door with adalock, cheap and I think it’s a terrible investment in home defense if you are truly worried about it tbh. I did it in 1-2 back kicks as well. Slows down for enough commotion to be heard as an alert but if they mean business and have intentions of hurting you, not a good investment. Better for interior doorways between room transitions inside.

There are easier, cheaper ones that teens can find almost anywhere. There's one in my kitchen that cost $6, and my kids could easily get one and add it to the inside of their doors if they wanted. I wouldn't approve, but they could very easily do it, and it can't be seen from the other side.

I wish someone would concentrate on alarms and safety devices that work with various windows. We are using a device we found that limits how far a window can open but it's only for a certain style window. We also put a lock into the bottom of our sliding glass door that connects it to the metal track so it can't be lifted. Most home break-ins are through a window, skylight or sliding door . . .
@Anthony Lopez thieves stay less than 15 minutes. The police never response and be there soon enough to get them. Besides, the police encourages the victims to deal with the insurance carrier for the loss. They are too busy to help unless it is a live or death situation.

If someone deliberately sets your house on fire, they'll be waiting for you when you reach the end of that escape ladder. So in case of accidental fire, yes ... keep an escape ladder. But don't make the mistake of thinking it will help you against an aggressor. For that you need a certain degree of self defense training. You don't need to be a Navy Seal; just learn basic self defense, martial arts if you can. If there are no children around, your locale might allow a firearm; and I don't mean military grade. Consider a yappy dog for intruder alert and set up an electronic alert system with a strong password bc of hackers. If you don't want or need a gun, consider a can of bear spray kept on your bedside table. And there are ways I won't go into here that can tip you off if someone has entered the house during your absence. I live alone by choice so it's easier for me; but for instance I keep a $50 bill in plain but not suspicious sight. No burglar (except maybe one reading this note) is going to pass that up. When I return and open the front door, the first thing I do is to look and see if my $50's still there. There's a lot you can do that's very effective but doesn't invite attention. I realize far too many women are still raised to be submissive. But basic martial arts training in a real dojo that's not a commercial glorified dance studio is your best bet. It will absolutely help you over any mental obstacle like being afraid of hitting someone else or getting hit. But no - get that self-defeating notion of an exterior bolt on the door out of your head.

I am trying to find something for an outward opening door. The wall extends about 6" past the door on both sides. Also, I bought a few of those add-a-lock type locks. My doors are too tight and they won't fit between the door and the jamb.
Barricade box is easily defeated. Just mount a 2x4 between both door jams. Secure the mounts into 2 (total of 4) studs on either side using lag bolts. Also fortify the door jam with a steel plate and lag bolts and multiple steal wrapped, non pick able lock sets. Also, get a pitbull or two. Thieves are cowards and hate a challenge. If they hear a dog, they will move on. Install external lights and sirens and record to the cloud. Make it hard for them and they will move on.
For retirement I bought a genuine Vic in a Midwest TinyTown. It can't be MADE physically secure itself. However, despite being a lefty surrounded by bloodthirsty rwnj's fond of issuing death threats etc., yet here I still am safe and sound 20 years later. As Nurse Friend says, it's good if they're at least a little bit afraid of you. Fortunately I don't care for their company at all, so being denied such a dubious 'pleasure' is hardly the battering ram they're used to thinking it is.

The real estate agent pressed a button and there were BLAST PROOF shutters coming down on all windows and sage room and all sorts of high tech stuff . The house looked like a farmhouse but built with steal reinforced concrete and all doors/windows were bullets proof . He called it the "Bruce Wayne" farmhouse in the city . He didn't buy this house because ,what did the home builder do for a living that they needed so much security.
