James dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad. Thankfully his dad received a donor kidney & is doing okay now. If this song doesn't get to you emotionally, there is something wrong with you. This song resonates with me as I was my dad's caregiver for 5 years until he passed away a few years ago.

James wrote this song when his Dad was dying of stage 4 kidney disease and needed a kidney. A distant cousin from Australia heard the song and ended up being a perfect match for giving a kidney. So because of this song his Dad got a kidney and is still alive.❤
    Good reaction.

This song is a beautiful example of the quote "Music is a language that can not be spoken, but must be expressed."

Extra bit of info: James' Dad had already donated a kidney - his one kidney was failing; as shared elsewhere here this song reached a relative far away in Australia - who happened to be a match and actually had the same name - Charles Blunt. I really appreciated your reaction

In life there usually comes a time when the roles reverse and the child becomes the caretaker. I think for fathers, it's more difficult to let the roles of provider and protector go. This song is a beautiful way of telling him, "You can let go. I got you now!" I also have to comment on the level of vulnerability it takes for a grown man to use the word "daddy". This video almost feels like it's something I shouldn't be watching; a private moment between dad and son. If this doesn't put a lump in your throat, you need to check your pulse!

I feel this is a very masculine song. I almost feel like I'm intruding on a sacred male space. I discovered this song when I found my tough guy husband siting at his computer with his face covered with tears.

I ended up being my father's caregiver, he had Alzheimer's. I can definitely relate to this song because my father forgot who I was. I can see myself saying these things to my dad before he passed .....

I watched this video just after my Father passed away in hospital in 2021 during Covid, and because it was during Lockdown we weren't allowed to see him. When I saw this video it completely destroyed me in a compassionate way.

Both James and his father served on her blade in the British military. The line where he talks about chasing the monsters away, it’s a reversal, the meaning is when James was a little boy his father would tuck him in at night and he would be afraid of the monsters under the bed like children do, so his father would read him a book and tell him don’t worry I’m here. I’ll chase the monsters away. So now James is asking his father to rest in peace and he’ll stay and taste the monsters away.

When either would be deployed anywhere his father would tell him you’re not my son and I’m not your father, we’re just two grown men saying goodbye”.

It’s definitely was very real for James Blunt, his dad was diagnosed with kidney disease and dying but God is good and he received new kidneys and James wrote this for his father

I had heard this before and remembered it being very compelling so I watched your reaction to it. I agree with you. How in the world wasbJames able to sing this heartwrenching song without breaking down, is remarkable. What incredible lyrics, I understand that his father was able to have a transplant after this video, and that he was doing pretty well which are me rejoice. I am sure their relationship was closer after this song. I pray they are doing well today. Thank you again. I love how thoughtful your reactions are. You are one of my favorites. 😊✌

James did this video in one take! They told James that his voice cracked and they should re-do that section and he stated no it was perfect the way it was because I’m not doing it again. he wrote this song and released it in hopes to find a donor for his father who is dying of stage for cancer. This song caught the attention of his father is third cousin who was a perfect match! Saving his father’s life.

“Monsters” was a heartfelt tribute to his father. The emotional track reflects the deep bond between them and a touching farewell. In the music video for “Monsters,” James Blunt sings directly to the camera, his eyes welling up with tears...The video is so powerful because sitting beside James Blunt is his real-life dad, Colonel Charles Blount. who was a former cavalry officer, battling stage 4 chronic kidney disease. The song captures the raw emotions of facing mortality and saying the things one wants to say to a loved one before it’s too late 💗 I can never get through this, without crying..........

Hi there. Just found your channel and I like what you do. Just finished watching this video and when he says it’s my time to chase the monsters away is like when you are a kid and you are having nightmares because you think they are monsters under your bed or in the closet, then your dad will come in and chase the monsters away for you so that you can sleep better. The older gentleman in the video is his real father Charles Blunt. He is doing very well and is up and at it. They managed to find a donor from one of his uncles. On a lighter note and you can Google this but James actually put his sister on eBay. It wasn’t to be malicious but was actually doing her a favour just a little fun fact for you. Take care of yourself and blessings to you from England.

This song changed a lot of people's lives as the story behind the song made a lot of people sign up to the donor register around the world, it literally chased the monsters away for his dad and other families who were in the same situation. All the proceeds from this song were donated to the Help the Heroes charity of great Britain which helps take care of our veterans and their families as both Colonol Charles Blunt and Captain James Blunt were both in the British army.

I know its sometimes difficult for Americans to understand the English lyrics but he means its his time to chase the monsters away like his father used to do reading him stories as a kid so his little punk ass would go to sleep. Btw this one was done in one scene and after it was filmed every one was crying and his father said i dont know why you are all crying im not dead yet 😅
