I've found that my ficus elastica, dieffenbachia, pothos, sanseveria and monstera deliciosa require very little attention. I had an African Violet on my desk in my office. It was perfectly fine; didn't bloom much but looked healthy. I chalked it up to office light, or lack there of. It was pretty. One day a new hire came through and when he stopped in front of my desk he reached out and rubbed one of the leaves between his thumb and forefinger. They're soft and velvety. Well, I'm pretty sure I taught the guy a new language. It became a thing; frustrated me to no end. You know, that silly little thing started to bloom - bloomed it's little heart out. He said "Everything needs a little love". I still had my doubts, but when he moved on to a job in another state, in reverted back to it's normal (apparently) bored state. I started to pay more attention to it and it did much better. In my previous plant mommy life, I had always talked to my plants. I told them "You can be replaced, you know!". I'm sure it was great for morale.
Cool story, i day if you build that personally relationship and bond with your plant, it will thrive. Sounds low your colleague had some magical green thumb 😅
Love the hoyas! And the zenzi or mini zz looks pretty cool. I am either giving my plants too much love or complete neglect. I go back and forth 🤣 Love your plant collection!!
You are a joy to watch, as usual. I love low maintenance, especially when you have too many plants. Yeah I look after them, but it's tiring. My pick is called caliphruria subedentata (green supreme). I love that zenzi a must have for my collection. Im a loving check my plants talk and sing to pray for and touch plant parent. Water them only when needed...
Cast Iron plant is another great one for lazy plant parents! And loved the zenzi. It's made its way onto my wishlist along with ZZ Raven and many others!
The Zenzi caught my eye, 😍so I clicked on the video. I will look for that since I’ve had success so far with the Green ZZ. I have many snake plants but I didn’t know about the samurai. That’s striking. 😍I must look for that one . I’m not a fan of cacti, but the prickly pear is very much my style. You should call this video the mostly beautiful plants for the lazy plant parent😆
Love how cute ZZ Zenzi looks. Went to search for it today, didn't find any ZZ, but instead got 3 miniature Orchids, Aloe Vera, Sanseveria bacularis and Chamaedorea Elegans. Happy 😄 Anyway, tell us about Begonia Maculata, please, i can see it next to your TV 😍
@@CrazyPlantGuy oh well 😄 let's kill few begonias together then 🤭😳 i only know they like fluffy and well drained substrate, and they don't really need any fertiliser. One begonia-Pro adds some forest moss and some sphagnum to make substrate airy. I guess I'll try it (gonna snip few leaves for propagation just in case the mother plant dies) 😄
Love this episode and your choices. I am a 'don't ask me to water more than once a week at most' kind of plant owner. So plants I own are many you mentioned. (I live in 1 bedroom city apt so only have southern windows and 2 small east ones). Ponytail palm, aloe, snake plant, birdnest sansevaria, jade plant, pepermonia obtusifolia (variegated and solid green), scindactus pictus Argyraeus and exotica, variety of spider plants and pothos, syngonium, pilea peperomioides ( took me a few times to find right place for it to be happy (8 ft. From south window seems to be winning position), asparagus fern (sits on toilet). Only plant i still have that struggled suddenly after a happy 2 years is the chinese evergreen. It suddenly got leggy and branches starting snapping off everytime I picked up pot to water. I still have the poor now ugly thing because I trimmed down those remaining sad bare stems to 3 inches and now not only are all of those sprouting 2 new branches but 3 new sprouts have popped out of the ground. So maybe its second life will be happier. Thank you for all your videos. I learn a lot from you.
@@CrazyPlantGuy Went to Ikea today and got a sansevieria cylindrica, nice size, for cheap (9.99) and I also got some nice white pots. Then went to Lowe's and bought another variety of sansevieria (more "leafy" with yellow edges). Thanks for the recommendations! I love them already!
I agree hoyas are so easy once you find their spot👍🏽 I'm looking for some good plants for my room (SW-E) windows. I don't want a room full of snake & zz lol. But I'm between loving and lazy. Love talking to them, but the watering & checking 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏾♀️😅
Bonjour Christian !As for me I'm an "overlover"....I think we kind of behave with our plants like we kind of behave with our human being pairs...like... it's sort of reveal our own personnality ...🌿🌱🍃😊 thanks for the vid and see You on The next one 🍃
I think heartleaf philodendrons or scindapsus are really easy and can be neglected as long as you water them when its dry. Expecially if your unsure of your lighting situation or just want a plant in a particular spot. They have quite a few different varieties and some can be really beautiful. I have almost every type, which is pretty much the only type of plants I own because they are easy. Seeing new growth all the time is really nice too as they constantly are popping out new leaves. High reward low maintenance. My fav kind of plants! Hoyas are freaking hard i think. I think its the soil they like...its hard to tell if it needs water or not. I have only had 1 that lived past a year :) its the regular Austrelis. Its still doing good and I hardly ever even look at it or water it lol. The only thing I do is add more bamboo sticks for the new vines. It loves those darn bamboo sticks. Wraps itself around them without any help and grows like a weed. Kinda looks like one too haha
"My top 5 houseplants for the lazy plant parent. That's YOU, that's why you're watching this video!" HAHA... Love how you joke around, Christian! I'd have to say, pothos are also a super perfect beginner plant as well as lazy plant parent go-to! Good recommendations! BTW this quarantine has made me become even more of a plant hugger & talker! I catch myself literally carrying on a convo with them... (shh, don't tell anyone!)
I’m kind of a beginner. I have a few plants. I confess I’m struggling a little, even with the easy care plants. I’m trying to do some research and homework. I either water too much or I don’t water enough. Usually too much.
I have a pony tail palm that is almost 5 feet tall and the leaves almost touch the ground. Beautiful wavy foliage. I also love and use the white cache pots
I also personally love your simple editing style, I see no reason to really change it a lot. What you could do to up your production quality is to get a cute plant animation for your intro. I was thinking of a lil plant gettinh watered and then growing, along with cute sounds or something :D
@@CrazyPlantGuy Keep it simple! You could start using icons and lil illustrations when talking about how to care for a certain plant and similar things but I really don't see a need to extend your editing a lot, the simple style fjts your channel and content very well :)
I would say I’m a plant parent that loves all my plants a little too much. Sometimes it’s hard for me to withhold water for some and water the rest 🙁😂 but I’m learning. I have over 150 plants. I would say all green plants are much easier than variegated ones to grow and propagate.
It’s hard to stay on top and equally give your love and attention to all of them especially when you got 150 plants 😅 I sometimes don’t notice one or two cause they’re hiding behind another plant 😆
I'm a mixed bag plant parent. I have 3 or 4 different citrus started from seed. I estimate 100-150 aloes, several hoyas that came from a single plant that was down to a single leaf, a wild harvested opuntia (prickly pear) that is running pads along the shelf, 1 surviving poinsettia, a moses in a boat that I took 2 cuttings from, 4 pineapple tops that are in various stages of growth, a croton, a naughty little boy plant, 4-5 coffee plants and a philodendron. And then there are the outdoor potted plants.................
last summer i was super Over attentive to my plants and repotting like mad, this year i’m at 100+ plants and have learned to let my plants chill and have their space... except from when i’m propagating haha
a few more low maintenance plants in my opinion are the Dracaena marginata, Pachira Aquatica, Schefflera, Ficus Benjamina, Kalanchoe (and of course some have those beautiful flowers), and some people may be surprised that orchids are pretty easy and low maintenance. I say I like low maintenance, but I have all the above in terms of maintenance. Some I know I don’t have to check on for weeks or [months (cacti and some orchids)] and others I check every day to every few days.
I agree with your list. These are really forgiving plants. Since you ask, I am more of a overbearing type of plant parent. If I could I would be buried in my plants all day everyday watering, touching, cleaning etc... which would not do them any good. Question Is you Elechomes humidifier a low maintenance one? I mean how often do you have to change your filter and is Canada’s tap water suitable for it? Since we are supposed to have very soft water Amazon did not have that kind of information. Thank you in advance
My humidifier seems simple to take a part and clean. There’s an extra filter you can get that you put in the tank, I don’t use one since I put filtered and soon to be distilled water. I would say Canadian tap water is pretty soft.
The only thing I'm lazy about is re-potting. I've only owned a few plants. I am a sucker for succulent, but not the greatest to care for them. I love the plant you have on you shelf, it has spots. Anyway, I got a plagoenemia(smthin like that) for my birthday last year, still alive!! Yay! But my leaves are pointing up and one of the leaves, it looks like it's drying up which is scaring me because that's the second one. I feel like it's dieing slowly.
I'm a loving parent. I talk to my plants, check on them all the time, and name them according to their "personalities" 🙈 I think I am a crazy plant mom.
I think Adeniums are cool low maintenance plants. It's true that they need bright light and summer warmth to come out of dormancy, but, you know, it's a plant that can be left without any water for 5 months at least and then, in the summer, when it produces its leaves, you can allow the soil to go bone dry before you water again. In addition to that, you fertilize your plant every two waterings, you remove dead branches or rotten parts (if that ever happens to you), and I think that's pretty much it in terms of care.
I think im a suffocating plant mom since I had plants and I tend to over water them and they always die 😟 Im going to give one of these plants a try wish me luck🤞
Question about the whale fin plants! I recently got one in the mail but it came looking folded in half hot dog style, do they normally fold like that or is it a watering issue? I noticed with my other one that after being watered it seemed to flatten out more. (Love the video btw, I’ve been trying to find a zz plant😁)
They normally should flatten, when they first grow they’re more closed in like a circle and as they grow they flatten. Just water it like your normally would water your snake plants and it should grow itself to be more flat.
Yeah true, but some may want to try just adding a green and if they don’t have th time to care for them as much, these may be some good choices to start off with...who knows, maybe starting with these they’ll fall I love with and find more time to care for more plants 😃
@@CrazyPlantGuy I understand , I'm a plant lover and can't even count the amount of times ppl have come to me over dead plants as if Google or even channels like yours aren't readily available. I meant, if you take on something living, invest the time to care for the plant life or animals etc etc. I feel some ppl get plants to be part of the plant community or to feel validated. But I appreciate your videos 😊😉

Hi, been really enjoying your plant channel these past few months. Keep up the good work. Keep them coming. Do you have any videos on Zz plant care. Hard for me to score through on a small phone screen. I keep having to buy them hoping it will finally survive. I water only once a month yet over time the yellowing and dying off comes on. It’s in a well drain soil. One near bright light and another in low to medium light to see which is the best place. Still both are doing about the same slowly loosing leaves. But however the dying off little by little is prolonging more now. One plant is about a year old and the other, about 6 month. Both not as full or rather lush as it use to. The one near the bright window is lighter, and the other further back on the other side of the room still retains its darker tone. Any advice will be appreciated.
How much water do you give them when watering? Maybe dong water it too much just a little. Sounds like you get enough light for it so I would say it’s maybe the watering. Just water it once until you see that water run through. Makes sense?
Crazy Plant Guy Actually I’ve drastically reduced the watering to very little watering not drenching any more, but just moistening it enough once a month to see if it would improve. Seems to have slowed the yellowing, not as much dying off anymore. But today in checking out another plant UA-camr, I noticed they were using terra cotta pots. And I’m must really be dense to not have realized they are succulent like plants. I still have them in their nursery pot inside a decorative ceramic pot. All my succulents and plants that need dried soil before watering again are in terra cotta pots. Go figure! Lol!
Dear Crazy Plant Guy, My mom passed away 3 years ago. She loved plants. My brother and I each took a cutting from one of my mom’s favourtie plants (pothos) . I’ve had my mom’s plant for 3 years now and I think I recently overwatered it. All the leaves began to turn yellow and then brown....I watched a video that you did on propogating pothos.....I really hope it isn’t too late. I cut the plant and put it in water...almost all the leaves completely turned brown and dried up. I noticed that where the nodules were, it was still green. Can my plant still be saved? I took the dead leaves off and put the tiny pieces in water. Is there a chance my plant will survive? I also cut the vine into a few pieces and put them into water as well. Any advice you give would be greatly appreciated. I think I’d really feel a deep sense of sadness if my plant doesn’t make it. It’s just my way of keeping my mom close. I really enjoy your channel and hope you continue making fantastic videos. Please advise....Sad in Toronto!
Sorry to hear that. Just make sure you have the nodes and price of the vine with a leaf in water, placed in an area that gets bright light and warm. Just follow the propagation video and your cuttings should show roots. Make sure that water is topped so the node is always submerge one water. Good luck.

I’ve hard cast iron plants are amazingly easy and low maintenance. I’ve never had one but would definitely consider it. 😊
So excited to see you posted a video today!!! Always love your positivity and love for your plants ♥️
Aww. Thank you. 😊
I’m a plant helicopter mom so I like the ones who need me most lol
Lots of these are really good for people with certain disabilities too! They can withstand more time alone while you're dealing with your health
Twisty Sunshine absolutely, I didn’t even consider that. Thank you for it. Agree that these plants are great for them. 💜
I laughed so much watching this!! Thanks 🙏🏾
Beautiful collection .. love it
Thank you.
You should call this video the mostly beautiful plants for the lazy plant parent😆
lol.. yeah I found all these common plants come is so many varieties that makes them look so cool and beautiful 😊
Love how cute ZZ Zenzi looks. Went to search for it today, didn't find any ZZ, but instead got 3 miniature Orchids, Aloe Vera, Sanseveria bacularis and Chamaedorea Elegans. Happy 😄 Anyway, tell us about Begonia Maculata, please, i can see it next to your TV 😍
lol...I’m new to Begonias so still going through the learning phase. ☺️
Oh, didn't know there is Zenzi-love it:)
Riiiight. It’s soooo cauute 😆
Me too! Gonna be on the lookout for one.
So nicely expressed. You are so much kind.
Thank you.
I had no idea that IKEA sells plants! I must go check them out! Thanks!
Yup they sure do. It’s hit and miss tho.
I have been building up my cacti collection because they are easy to care for.
I want to add more Cacti to my collection too...so easy.
That’s a great perspective Celine. 😊 enjoy your week.
hi, im new here and new plant parent, love ur video and they are very helpful! thank you.
I would love it if you did a video on Hoya care & tips. I just got two and one isn’t doing so great🙁. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I'm on the love too much, care too much, worry too much side.
Great video as always!
I have a pony tail palm that is almost 5 feet tall and the leaves almost touch the ground. Beautiful wavy foliage. I also love and use the white cache pots
Wowza. Thats exactly what I want my Ponytail Palm to be, that huge and the leaves touching the ground 😆
I also personally love your simple editing style, I see no reason to really change it a lot.
What you could do to up your production quality is to get a cute plant animation for your intro.
I was thinking of a lil plant gettinh watered and then growing, along with cute sounds or something :D
Thank you. I was thinking I needed to do more to keep up with all the cool kids 😅 but agree that sometimes simplicity is great.
@@CrazyPlantGuy Keep it simple! You could start using icons and lil illustrations when talking about how to care for a certain plant and similar things but I really don't see a need to extend your editing a lot, the simple style fjts your channel and content very well :)
Enjoyed your vedio... I always do enjoy your vedios... Thanks... You have superb collection of plants, it inspires me to have more plants
Rhipsalis is another easy genus that thrives on benign neglect. Many are really unusual looking and kind of cool too! 👍
Ooh cool. I’ve never heard of it, definitely going to look into it. Thanks for sharing
I estimate 100-150 aloes, several hoyas that came from a single plant that was down to a single leaf, a wild harvested opuntia (prickly pear) that is running pads along the shelf,
1 surviving poinsettia, a moses in a boat that I took 2 cuttings from, 4 pineapple tops that are in various stages of growth,
a croton, a naughty little boy plant, 4-5 coffee plants and a philodendron.
And then there are the outdoor potted plants.................
Wowza sounds like you’re a crazy plant parent 😆 that’s amazing collection.
Cats love ponytail palms. Nom nom nom. At medium indirect light, the plant hardly grows each year...makes amusing bonsai plant.
They sure do. Nemo goes after it when she’s out of cat grass 😆
I love my plants to much always looking, touching and talking to them😀 lol
last summer i was super Over attentive to my plants and repotting like mad, this year i’m at 100+ plants and have learned to let my plants chill and have their space... except from when i’m propagating haha
from 1 plant to 30+ plants now ! what have you done haha ! Awsome videos all the time !
Bwahaha...there’s no turning back. 😆🌿
Your plants are beautiful!
“They will thrive in the kind of love you give them, which is neglect” 😂😂😂
I’m definitely Not a neglectful plant parent. 😃 I’ve got to watch an not over water them.
That’s always the tricky part of being a love plant parent, is to not over water 😆
Awesome Video! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks. Glad you liked it. 😊
the intro burned me like that one time my calathea makoyana suffered from an intense fertilizer burn 😓😅
Yikes, 😅
a few more low maintenance plants in my opinion are the Dracaena marginata, Pachira Aquatica, Schefflera, Ficus Benjamina, Kalanchoe (and of course some have those beautiful flowers), and some people may be surprised that orchids are pretty easy and low maintenance. I say I like low maintenance, but I have all the above in terms of maintenance. Some I know I don’t have to check on for weeks or [months (cacti and some orchids)] and others I check every day to every few days.
Thanks for sharing. I love kalenchoe, haven’t seen one of those in a while. 😊
Ganda! I love hoyas. For the lazy plant mama in me.
I agree with your list. These are really forgiving plants.
Since you ask, I am more of a overbearing type of plant parent. If I could I would be buried in my plants all day everyday watering, touching, cleaning etc... which would not do them any good.
Question
Is you Elechomes humidifier a low maintenance one? I mean how often do you have to change your filter and is Canada’s tap water suitable for it? Since we are supposed to have very soft water
Amazon did not have that kind of information.
Thank you in advance
My humidifier seems simple to take a part and clean. There’s an extra filter you can get that you put in the tank, I don’t use one since I put filtered and soon to be distilled water. I would say Canadian tap water is pretty soft.
Crazy Plant Guy thank you
The only thing I'm lazy about is re-potting.
Who thumbs down this ?
You must live in Antarctica!
Good vid. I know people who forget they have a tree! Lol.
They forget them have a tree 😂
Ah yes, I need more plants now. 💘😂
Love the white pots! Where do u buy them?
Your plants is very different I love it
I'm a loving parent. I talk to my plants, check on them all the time, and name them according to their "personalities" 🙈 I think I am a crazy plant mom.
Lmao the kinda lobe that you guys can give them which is neglect 😆 im like well hey i guess that's why im here today 😆 😆 great video man
Loving plant person.
Awesome. I’ll need to look into that plant. Thanks for sharing 😊
all nice plants
Love the whale fin. Ive been looking for one.
They’re great. Hope you find one soon. 🤞🏼
Am an active parent but the work is too much so am phasing out and planting more plus concetrating more on those that need less care😔
I think im a suffocating plant mom since I had plants and I tend to over water them and they always die 😟 Im going to give one of these plants a try wish me luck🤞
Cool to see Hoya Vietnam is in your list. Just wonder how did they name it like that, do you know?
I'm the loving too much watering plant mum 😂🥺
How often do you fertilize during the winter months?? I have a philodendron Hope.. and it's growing more during this winter season!
i love all your plants especially your string of hearts. i like your white containers too, can you share where you get them?
Get mine pots pretty much anywhere that has simple, clean, white pots. Garden centers, big box stores, etc
Crazy Plant Guy thank you for your response i appreciate your time😊
Question about the whale fin plants!
I’m one of those lazy parent indoor plants 🌱
I really feel like ppl shouldn't get plants unless they're really willing to invest time, but your suggestions are in point!
Hey, nice video. I have a query whether we can leave our succulents in their nursery pot or do we need to repot them in terracotta pots ?
I call my aloe my 'Wild Child' because the leaves grow in all directions and very hard to tame them. I thought I was the only one tying a string around my aloe in attempt to keep it in place
Haha they can get pretty huge and takes up so much space. 😆
Bonsoir Cristian votre plonte son manifikeee j'adore zamikulais zz et sanseveria Viktoria et Jade plonte aussi elle soit manifike jolieee bravo et felusitacione pour votre jolie vidéo...🙏🙏🙏
Go figure! Lol!
So ikea apparently has plants? Didn’t know, I should finally visit ikea
Yup, near the end of the market hall, just passed the fake plants section 😆
Dear Crazy Plant Guy,
My mom passed away 3 years ago.
Good luck.
