I spent 10 years in the USN and never went aboard ship due to being a Patrol Aircrewman. After I got out I became a civil servant and have LOVED going to sea. I’ve sailed on everything from drilling supply boats to the Teddy Roosevelt. Love being at sea but I’m too old now.
@@lekoman a few hydraulic seals , spare rams , some pins and bearings . required belts , filters and spark plugs ( if needed ) . . . easy peasy . sure it's a pile to have . better have and not need than . . .
@@pappy451 They *do* have most of that stuff on board. There's a whole engineer's shop full of spares. It doesn't mean that every possible spare is on board. These boats are massively custom and complex, especially as owners modify them over time. Low part count is not part of the engineering requirements for a crab boat.
What will happen to these fishermen now that the king crab and snow crab season has been cancelled? Please let us know this has to be devastating for the captains and crews! I wish them all the luck and prayers!
A lot of them have gone to Norway (sig, Jake, etc) to fish Norwegian crab instead. The Viking show Discovery has now is actually kinda interesting to see how the Norwegians do it without all the fancy gear and boats.

Random thought, how come when you pull a fish up from deep water there eyes pop out from the pressure change and i assume they usually die but the crab seem unnaffected?
Boats will be sitting out the 2022 - 2023 Opilio, Red King Crab and Blue King Crab seasons since the govt halted it due to surveys showing not nearly enough of those species in the water.

I know a guy that works for Discovery. He said a lot of this stuff is so scripted and made up it’s insane. He said these guys definitely don’t interact as much as the show makes out.

Some of them are also black cod fisherman so they might be able to find other catch; but I was wondering the same thing
They're up in colder waters due to high Temps in recent years in bering sea. Crab like cold water
