Yeah, put himself all in, in regards to his work ethic, and going from greenhorn, deck hand, deck boss, and very likely to eventually become Cap’n Nick. It sucks that his substance abuse issues got the better of him, and unfortunately, that industry has a lot of problems that sometimes leads people down that dark path. On a brighter note, my favorite Nick moment is at 7:34. The way he enthusiastically says, “Yes!”, makes me laugh every time I’ve seen that clip.

yeah man he was an awesome deck boss, there's a lot to learn from a man with a work ethic like that. pretty sure he got fired beforehand though. He had an addiction to painkillers, I remember in the episode it seemed like his work ethic just wasn't there, he led Bill to think it was cancer, but he was cleared of that, later in the same episode Bill found his stash, Nick was pretty messed up too.

We as MEN (I’m 44) can make every single person on this planet happy but we seek approval from 1 person more than anyone. I’m an Iraq/ Afghanistan combat veteran with 7 deployments and started riding in the cab of a truck with my dad from the time I could walk so I became a truck driver too. I never heard “good job” “I love you” or “I’m proud of you” the only person in my life I wanted to hear those words from

He didn’t even attempt it till he was in his 30’s. And he still was hard on Zack the entire time. It’s the father’s job to both support, toughen, and make sure their son is ready for the world. Not abandon him, tough love him without any love to back it up. Bill only started doing that to leave a legacy behind when he started getting up in age.

It's good to see Captain Wild on deck 😉 ..it's good for a Captain to take deck work sometime..or else you'll lost your feeling about how the work have to be done, even you sitting in the wheelhouse, and can look down at the deck..it sounds crazy..but it's true....
You'll Inspire the crew at the deck, and it gives respect, that the Captain can go down, and do work under his rang to .. 😉
I love these videos about Deadliest catch....and I respect everyone VERY MUCH with Love.
(I'm a former Captain on fishing vessels, but ...NOT...at The Bering sea...just the Baltic Sea, and North Sea .
The Baltic Sea..by fishing...it's end of story..people close to give their boats away for free...it's not allowed to fish...only the Seal's are allowed to eat the rest of the fish.................once up on a time........and this time, have end now !

Zach is like most young people, they really don't know what they want. He knows this is a hard life and probably doesn't want this life style, but doesn't know what he wants or how to tell his dad without disappointing him. Bill is not accepting what Zach is telling him. Zach doesn't always need a captain, sometimes he needs a dad.

  • @TheMichaelLombardo
    @TheMichaelLombardo 6 місяців тому +28

Apparently when they did the behind the scenes on Wild Bill, his ex-wife, Zach's mom said he was abusive physical, and mentally to them growing up. Something Wild Bill has never really admitted to being at fault for. All he knows is how to be a captain of a fishing boat. Zach is actually a trained EMT so he can go into doing something else. I like Wild Bill as a captain, but from the look of things outside of that he doesn't know how to be good at much else.

This isn't true. The reason they divorced is because Bill was away fishing all the time. Zach grew up in a nice house, with a cleaning lady, a nanny, and went to an expensive private school. Bill bent over backwards to provide his family with everything, and how was he repaid? His wife divorced him and took everything, and his son grew up into this lazy, entitled brat who holds a grudge against his father because he couldn't be around more. Despite all that, Bill is STILL trying to do right by his son.

I can imagine how Zach feels. I have always rebelled against my father because I was always a Mama's boy, but when I became a father I realized that I was exactly like him...to a certain extent. My sons love and respect me (as I do my father, but I rarely ever hear from him). When you're attempting to work with or for your father you ALWAYS want to prove yourself, but if you've had a father like I have, then you realize that sometimes it's not so easy. I don't mean to say that my father was bad to me or abused me or anything like that, but he wasn't there for me like a father should have been for his only son.

Seems to be a recurring theme...
Look at the Harris boys. Druggies and rapists. Phil didn't really teach his kids what they needed to know, despite knowing he was sick.
What's more, in a documentary later, we find out that he left his boys at home with an abusive stepmom while going out fishing. He also showed more favor to Jake, despite Josh... At least appearing to do everything right. It was so bad when he died, the fleet literally had to take them in to help get them on their feet.

I didn't understand my father's actions until I became a father, and I think that maybe Zack feels the same way...and might not understand Bill until he becomes a father himself. Still, he needs to give Bill a chance instead of just being a defensive washerwoman...Zack NEEDS to give Bill a chance and get behind the controls and give his dad the proper respect because all he wants is for his son to excel. It's sad.

The thing is, nick is a roughneck with the same work ethic and mindset as Bill. He’s essentially the son Bill wants Zach to be.
Zack clearly grew up fairly sheltered and thinks he should just be handed the throne.
Bill wants him to operate like Nick to take that throne but Zach isn’t built like that
Really nobody’s fault at the end of the day. People who didn’t come from the dirt and grind for every inch in life simply can’t comprehend that mindset, even if they turn out to be a decent person overall like Zack.

I have watched every episode and based the following opinion on my observations. regarding crew safety: can't you install taller rails higher around the boat except for certain spots like where the launch is, . Like some type of foldable rails to protect the crew from possibly getting thrown over? just a thought. Captain, you may not have been around much when your son was little, and that can cause issues later on like it is now, but you are the type of father who's a "provider", an "earner" You did what was needed to be done to house and feed your family and Zach will understand that as he matures more. But you did a great job providing for him and he'll appreciate that one day, so don't get down on yourself, you did great. As far as Zach is concerned, I think Zach is totally capable of running his own boat., he's a great fisherman because of what he is learning from you. So he doesn't like getting wet and pummeled with 30-foot waves of ice-cold seawater, bfd, he'd rather be running the show than being down where he can get tossed over. that's an acquired taste, not everyone is made the same, but there's nothing wrong with telling your son or the other crew members "Great job guys" One last opinion, seems to me you need to stop hiring all these girly boys and hire "men" that have more meat on their bones. these slender little boys are frail and get injured easily and all the crying and complaining from them fks up your program. the crew needs more phrases from their captain. That's all that's needed to keep spirits up. Zach, you got this, You are a fine man, stop being such a little d*ckhead to your dad and show some love and gratitude. He is not going to always be around and now is the time to appreciate that he is still there. Zach and nick and the darker guy are a great team.

I feel bad for wild bill cuz he wants his son to be more aggressive and more like him but Zach is too sweet and not tough enough to become a great captain!

I can tell by the heart to heart bill and zack had that they barely had a relationship and bill was probably a dick of a father. I kinda feel for zack, I don’t get how bills surprised by his feelings, probably the only one surprised

That's the whole probleml.. your son think he's better than you, like most kids .. yes kids, very childis, let him go, it's all you can do, your son was spoiled, his ego believes he's better than most people, especially you, Zac, needs to walk, don't give into the son's, he doesn't appreciate it at all..

The way Bill projects his insecurities onto Zach bothers me so much. Everything is: I would be helpful, but or I would be more supportive, but.
He thinks everything is up to Zach because he’s decided he doesn’t want to take accountability for mistakes. Now he can hold Zach accountable instead.
    Dude is a textbook manipulator.

Just from watching these clips, seems like working along side bill is like having teeth pulled. I know its editing, but every other word out of his mouth is how zacs not doing this, nick is better here, he doesn't want it, he won't ask, just freaking insufferable. Does a great job on his string, instead of saying that, its you should be doing 1, 2, 3. Bill wants his son to come say, dad, here I am, make me you, all while ignoring years of crap. Pathetic.
