I have my light on automatic at all times.
Turns out the headlight washers will always trigger like that and that's how I went through a full reservoir of washer fluid in about a month :')

i've had a big question on how to start the headlight washer because i've notice that "sometimes" worked!! so sometimes it was when i've had the lights on!!!! ahahaha thx a lot!!!!
My headlight washer´s pump was blown. The new one (VEMO) was easy to install. Just make sure to push the water pipe to the end to lock it, and put the "collar" around it, too. The light switch position is irrelevant , either on auto or normal (to the right).

Did not know about lights on requirement. Thought my car was going to fail Gov Test. P.S. They stop working when fluid level is half empty.

I know this is 5 years old but for anyone watching you can now get apps on your phone and link to the obd port via Bluetooth and turn this option off if you like. You can also do so much more, the apps are a MUST have to get in and control hundreds of different things you normally can't control.

I took the nozzle out connected to an air compressor and put some silicone grease in. When the spraying arm extends it lets the air get out. However, not sure if it is going to work.
Another fix would be to make a loop above the water level and place a one way valve on a Y split. In case the nozzles don't close properly, air will enter and stop the draining.
How did you take out the nozzle? The plastic "lid" on my e87 fell during a wash, I glued it back together but I can't find a way to attach it back to the nozzle cause it's too deep inside and there's barely any room even for fingers. I think you have to take off the whole front bumper? Or can you engage the "wash headlights" mode like in this video and maybe catch the nozzle when it shoots out? lol Maybe it will break

Its in auxiliary mode smart one u can literally see the rpm is at 0. Check engine light is always on before u turn on your car

So I got a new bumper that don't come with the washer holes on it how do I make sure that they never get activated
Just unplug the connector from the pump from the washer reservoir but the one from the headlights not from the windshield washer 😅
My headlights are always on auto and the headlight washer always works lol

Yes but only if the lights are on

Cali Coastin I have the 2016 X5 , in order to use my washer the car has to be in drive. The video doesn’t mention this fact.

to clarify do lights need to be on rather than auto mode.
Works on both modes. Just have your lights on and the washer will work
How can I disable this? when I drive and I want to clean the windshield automatically activates these and the water jumps all over the hood. is a useless option. I just washed the car and then if I use it it gets dirty back. it sticks to dust.
It works just when you have the headlights on. If you have the headlights off it will clean just the windshield
You can turn it off in bimmercode and possibly in idrive but I haven't looked for it.
