Speaking as an insomniac, what I want most when fighting insomnia is in fact to disappear completely. To stop existing. To stop perceiving, having control of a corporeal body and being able to lead a conscious thought. I think - therefore I am, but I shouldn't *be* when I sleep.
Although what you describe in your thoughts on that book sounds like quite the different notion of those same words.
Maybe I should give this musical collective a listen.

For some reason the music and cover art on these albums makes me feel so depressed, I feel abandoned and unwanted every time I hear it, it hurts to see the protagonist put the new face on, look back and be found; I feel so hated when I listen to it, like I was just left behind with only an empty room filled with their things they didn't even feel important enough to take with because I drove them away, it's a world of constant guilt and remorse, and it's very lonely here; for some reason I don't feel like the one who ran away, I feel like the one who got left behind, and it's hard not to miss someone I don't even know.

I've used Seraphim on loop every night, shuffled, to help me sleep. I've been needing to use ambient and drone music to even get to sleep for nearly a decade now, ever since college. This album has been pretty life changing for me, I've been plagued by mental illness for as long as I can remember and this album consistently puts me into a more ok headspace, at least until I drift off. I think there's a really beautiful meaning to the band's name, I also can't help but think they have taken inspiration from Radiohead's song of the same name, very similar feelings, tonality and themes between that song and the music this group makes (depression, struggling with certain things, but also release and comfort).
Finally, the fact that it's dedicated to Mark Hollis puts it all into perspective. It was pretty well known he had been dealing with mental health issues even since his time with the band Talk Talk, and I would highly recommend you check out his solo album "Mark Hollis" if you haven't already. The amount of understanding and empathy you can feel for him through his lyrics and music on that album are almost overwhelming, and it is even more truly beautiful music both for comfort and the occasional chance, for me at least, to feel something more positive once again. I hope that anyone reading this who needs it can feel some sort of comfort from it all.
Anyway great video man, just checked out a few of your vids and I like the topics and takes you have on them.

Okay, so I listened to this while falling asleep and sleeping last night. It was my first time hearing Mer de Revs.
This is the kindest music I have ever encountered. I've been having issues with sleeping lately due to chronic pain and intrusive memories. If you let it, this music will just seep into you, and push everything else out of the way as it fills you up. I found it to be an extremely soothing experience, and I fell asleep very quickly while using it. My cat even woke me up several times, and while normally it would take me hours to fall back sleep, with Mer de Revs it only took me minutes.
100% endorse this for sleeping to.

Thank you for this wonderful video introducing me to the group I’ve been using to help me sleep for the past many months now (Seraphim especially). I had to point out my favorite Easter egg from this series: the ending of the first track of the whole MdR project, “Aislin”, directly quotes the melody of “1/1”, the first track of Brian Eno’s 1978 “Music for Airports”, the first album to officially be coined “ambient music” (and coincidentally another one I used to fall asleep to). Love that little nod, made me respect them even more.

A bit long and maybe a little pretentious, but I still wanted to share.
The seraphim skeleton album showed up in my recommended after I experienced the worst breakup I had ever went through, when I lost my significant other I lost my tight group of friends as well, I had never felt more truly alone.
I clicked on the video for the title, at that point I wanted to know how to disappear completely. I was laying in bed at the time in my pitch black room, my pillow and sheets completely damp and my face raw, but the instant the slow, pulsating drones started of seraphim l, it felt like I was floating above my body and into the void.
It wasn’t a comforting feeling, but it wasn’t unnerving either, not benevolent or malevolent, it felt like a dull, numb and hollow nothingness in my very soul, an all consuming void that lulls you away from your humanity.
I’ve never slept more soundly and dreamless then I had that night, and I doubt I will again.

The second, although not exactly musical in nature, would be the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Written by John Kroenig it was a series of videos where John attempted to put words, description and meaning to feelings that do not have an exact word to define them.

I've always loved that music video. I'm glad that you covered it. There is another artist that i also love, his name ia Giles Corey. It's not the same music as in this video but they are still very good.

I gave Seraphim a shot in September and I remember enjoying it quite a lot. I guess I'll give Mer de Revs a chance.
If you want more ambient, look through the Geometric Lullaby label, there are tons of strange albums under them.

Dude you should, well... you HAVE to listen Lustmord´s records.
I´ve always seen in my you tube recommendations those albums by How to disappear completely. After listening all Caretaker´s records, I didn´t felt ready for HTDP. Well, now i feel more interesed and ready for the living nightmare. Hahaha.
I like this kind of artist and works. It´s like they come form nowhere and what lives is just the music. Another case is the musician Jandek. This is the channel that have almost all his particular works. It could be interesting if you make a video about him (or about Lustmord).
Anyway, very good job with this video.

You should talk about Tarentel, the unsung experimental band that went from a generick post-rock band to a very noise-based experimental band. Good video anyways.

You should rename the title to something more accurate like, "Man discovers sleep music and describes it dramatically".

They straight up feels like Coconut, with Silverlight being a song in the Hotline Miami franchise.
Coconut and their EP with the same name are the only thing they produced and I really loved the album, as dark as it is.

total 180 - would love to hear what you think of Pendulum, they're one of my favorite artists and not many people talk about why they're such a huge deal in dance/rock

These are the feelings I wish I could conjure. I think magic is from with in and manifesting literal emotion. Extreme music is magic.

It's interesting to me that you take this in a more.. reality based direction, because when I listen to this, I hear less of a literal disappearance from a life and more an embracing of a disconnect from reality, existentialism. It's titled Mer de Revs, music for insomniacs, and I feel that title is multifaceted in that it both means to represent someone awake in the night against their will with fears, thoughts and suffering, and/or someone awake at night on purpose, because they choose to dwell on their place in existence, and whether it should be the way that it is, and the journey, and conclusion they find.
To me, it's not so much disappearing from a mafia hit or spiteful spouse and more slipping, or reaching into the void of nonexistence.

Hey not sure if you're still trying to document this sort of thing but Imagine Drowning is a very cool artist along these lines. It feels a little more overtly oppressive than a lot of HTDC's discography but it's similar while staying unique. I'd reccomend their latest album, I Live in the Hills

if you like longer projects i think you should check out “silence is the key to life” by insulin. its a 20 hour “drone” project that reaches into experimental waters. i think its pretty cool and i haven’t seen anyone on youtube talk about it, let alone any other insulin albums. it is pretty harrowing and long (obviously), so i don’t expect anyone with normal eardrums to get past the first song, but if your interested check it out.

Listened to them looong before Caretaker, was one of the first on thebigpecolamans upload back in 2017 while listening to al ot of Black Metal. Startet to get into pot and writing, wrote mostly night/love scenes with it. I miss these times, it relaxed me so much back then...
Edit: You noticed the little piano note in Pandora?
