PRO TIP: if your allroom is in your parents basement, you don't even have to pay rent
But paying rent helps to maximize misery???
StoneMountain64 I can do you one better. I live in a shed in my grandma's backyard.
Matthew Taylor both paying and not paying rent have advantages. Depending how much you pay you can be left with very little money so you are unable to do anything, plus work can leave you exhausted so you won't do anything anyway.
Not paying rent leaves you without a weekly goal "make this much money", it doesn't force you to get a job which is a distraction and most of the time provides human interaction, you are also not paying for your own basic needs which can make you feel worthless.

Watched this video a couple of month ago - fixed my sleep cycle, started doing my work in the library not my room, set realistic measurable, started exercising more and stopped worrying so much about things I couldn't change. I'm quite happy and am feeling a lot better than I was before - thanks for the video.
I think portraying it as 'do this to maximise sadness' rather than 'don't do this to be happy' makes the message a lot more palatable and lets it sink in easier

Kudos for the brilliant approach of #4 USE YOUR SCREEN TO STOKE YOUR NEGATIVE EMOTIONS (about things over which you have no control or influence). I am so proud of you and I don't even know you. 💜
Also kudos on cleaning your whole house. Much better than sitting idle in a dirty house and not even knowing if you are even capable of cleaning your house! (Ok, maybe that last part was just me)
Yeah. Especially when you have to move your furnitures around and when you search how to clean this certain stain, and you need to go to Walmart again. Never again.
@@eimearmcdnagh1853 now you can be sad while seeing everyone being happy more clearly
This video made me clean my entire apartment, and feel immense satisfaction about it.
0/10, I want my money back.
Your goal must've not been unreachably large enough. Set your goal to clean the apartment. Not just the area you live in, the entire apartment building.
If this is still not enough, then the whole block, then the city you live in, so on and so forth until your goal is to clean up the entire world somehow.

Some more pointers: true misery doesn’t come from constantly torturing yourself. Your brain will adapt to anything as long as it’s consistent. Feed it just enough hope to have its longings crushed every so often and you’ll never feel a moment’s reprieve.
You missed another really good tip: Spend as much time as possible reflecting on the past. Look at the fun times you had in the past and think about how impossible they are now because your life has changed. Look at the bad times you had in the past and try to work out how they were your fault or how they mark general trends in your life.
Those are way too effective to use as an "inspirational" video.
@@Samuel62655 we all are...
those can backfire on some individuals and as such are not 100% effective in achieving true sadness
I spent a good five minutes trying to come up with a witty one-liner and couldn't. I've been really good at avoiding all 7 of the things on this list. Then this comment cleaned my clock. Yeah. I do this a lot. I mean a LOT. Like A. LOT. It tortures me day and night now that I'm 32 that all the fun is gone from life and it won't ever be as great as I remember in my 20's. Well there's possibly 60 more years of this to go, pal. It's gonna be a long ride in the car if you keep up the "I'm not touching you" game for most of it.
To really maximize this effect, look for the moments that took you from that happier time to the present, and then spend a great deal of time focusing on how you could change those if you could only go back in time to change them.

I think this is far more effective than any motivational video about success. No one wants to change up their lifestyle if what they have going for them is working. No, you may not be happy with how you are living, but you aren't dead and it could be worse. A lot of the time motivational videos talk about what actions you *can* take in order to improve your life, but not what actions you should quit doing.
Sometimes I forget that there are mentally healthy people who don't do this unconsciously.

I love how I got rid of all my problems and never felt happier than ever before and youtube decides to recommend me that. They are foreshadowing my next misery and I have to prepare for it mentally
Dude, every in every second of this video I felt like you were describing my whole summer, I'm not even joking..
Corneliu Goea same
Summer? More like present routine :'(
Summer? Last 10 years...
Your "whole summer"? That's cute.
Totally, glad to see I'm not the only one who had a terrible summer
Good to know I'm at least being miserable correctly
🤣
Audio Rebel agreed
Currently, I am on an antidepressant for, you guessed it, depression. Nearly every one of these things, I am doing. But I don’t know how to do otherwise.
I don’t know how to set SMART goals because for my entire life, I have only ever set VAPID ones. The only reason anything ever got done was because people told me what to do.
I try to sleep and wake consistently but I cannot. If I am not tired, I cannot sleep no matter how hard I try because my mind does not shut up (thanks ADHD).
This video is depressing for me because it paints the image that I cannot change the course, no matter how much I wish I could. I am stuck in a whirlpool that is dragging me down.
As most of us here, i was following these advices waaaay before i watched this video and i 100% approve them 👍
Most motivational video ever
MrFindX *un
Lol
Agreed
True
I watch this fairly regularly.
Y'know, this may sound crazy, but I have the sneaking suspicion that if you did the *opposite* of these things, you'd have a list on how to *not* be miserable. That could really backfire.
@Manek Iridius maybe you're not doing it right? I don't know though, I'm not a rocket scientist.
best to watch it several times studying every detail until you overthink it so much that you have no clue what you were trying to do to begin with.
That is literally the entire point of this video
@@Nils3OWN r/wooooosh
@Greg Rosenbaum what do you mean ?!
I come back to this from time to time and it’s always so so helpful.
I’m sick in bed but this video gave me the will power to do the opposite of everything you’ve described which i have been doing before i was so ill 🗿I’m grateful
I feel attacked
Some Guy i think thats why he said at the start of the video he said "one of which you are doing right now" :D
MrsKates07632 No that's because you are sitting still
YOU DIED
lol 7/7
As does everyone watching this video now (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
A sure-fire way to be sad is to constantly compare yourself to others. This can really lower your self-esteem. Even better: don’t do anything about it. Stay in that constant loop!
Compare yourself with who you were yesterday, not someone else today.
Also If I mention the person who originally said this quote then there'd be a war in the reply section.
Celebrities or internet influencers are the best to compare yourself to achieve misery, always think "wow that person is so much better" or "if only I had been more lucky" and keep that going, keep blaming fate or work than actually working to improve.
@@hikerieger6319 Even if you had the luck those influencers have, you wouldn’t last because they’re just that much better than you. The “everyone has to start somewhere” quote doesn’t apply here. If you’re just objectively less skilled than them, you will only live in their shadow.
@@Pluto-ek3mhthanks ill use this technique next time! 😁
@@Pluto-ek3mh Influencers aren't really... skilled. Several of them from where I come have publicly come out about heavy depression, body dysmorphia, eating disorders and whatnot. Even if they're objectively skilled, they're not really "better" than any of us. They're us but with more money and a lot more public exposure. None of that matters in the grand scheme if you don't want it to.
I like the way "you will only live in their shadow" is a bit like how this video itself works. This is why we shouldn't compare, as you mentioned originally, because it brings out these arguments which don't really open up anything new but rather just keep the same old circle going.
this has been very helpful to my conquest of true saddness, thank you.
I was already doing all of these so I guess that’s one thing
This is just what I needed to maximise my already horrid and despicable life! Thank you so much!
Lvxify there's a footnote which suggests that this is actually what you should avoid.
Sophie Macdonald *cough* *cough*
Sophie Macdonald LIES!!!! If that is your real name

Like WOW, I have been doing most of these things and hadn't realized just how bad it was. I subscribed to the channel and hadn't gone this far back to check old content now I'm glad. Great job Grey 👍👍👍👍👍👍
