Traction limitations kill the ST's chance from a dig. Plenty of power/torque to beat those cars, even on the stock K03 turbo you're hovering 400 ftlbs at the wheels. Wish each race was both a dig and a roll..bet it turned out differently. My '16 ST is FBO/E30 on a JST tune, its surprised a lot of cars who sware I'm on a bigger turbo. I love that these are all normal, daily cars with mods. Props to each, looks fun! (and a bit sketchy on that narrow, half gravel road lol)
I have a 2012 F150 Ecoboost with the MPT 93 octane performance with race transmission and trust me its stupid, like around 400 HP and a little shy of 500 TQ. Throw it in 4 wheel high and build it to about 2,200 RPM and it will launch like a bat out of hell. The new ones are faster than that. Sadly mine is getting the dreaded Ecoboost timing chain rattle that was a problem for the 11-15s so it may be traded soon since its a $4000 fix since its timing chain and phasers that have to be replaced.

I'm not sure why someone would race an AWD car from a dig with a FWD ST. I have a 2017 ST and all they do is spin off the line. You can't dig race an ST and win unless it's against another FWD. Do a roll race and you'll be surprised what a ST can outrun.
Harold Leicester the ST can be a great straight line car.... as long as you don't run it from a dig lol. Granted I have a BT swap done. So it behaves much differently. But still.
I still stick with what I always said, 4wd cars should race other 4wd cars, I mean that's like cheating whey you race a rear or front wheel drive car with a 4wd advantage. Race them on a roll, then I can respect that.

So glad I purchased a Focus RS. It reminds me when the Buick Grand National spanked the Corvette and GM forced them to cancel the car. You wonder, how'd they sneak the Focus RS beating the mustang past the execs? Someone's head will roll, but it's out there and you can't take it back! Nice!
It doesn't beat the mustang though. The new 5.0 with the 10 speed is running 12 flat at 118+. The RS stock is 13.3 at 105ish. This RS definitely has a lot done to it, including drag slicks and good driver. I suspect a lot of it comes down to the tires here tbh. Don't get it twisted, if your RS is stock or slightly modified, these mustangs will walk you all day.
Zero but you're also in the 11s now right? Which would make sense that you're beating 12 second stock mustangs with drivers who probably don't have as much experience with their car as you do. Not taking anything away from you, just replying to the guy saying Ford made the RS faster than the 5.0...It's not even close stock vs stock.
As a mustang 5.0 S550 owner, they have terrible amount of wheel hop from the factory. It literally feels like you’re going to break something on hard launches sometimes.
Don't get me wrong, I love the IRS in every other situation, but stock wheel hop is an issue that has to be fixed, and has a lot of aftermarket support, so it's definitely a fixable problem. If you had a supercharged S550 5.0 with stock suspension and took it to a drag strip you'd probably break something if you weren't careful though.
Absolutely love the focus ST, especially for the money. They really suck to launch, but once they get going they're pretty damned quick. I unfortunately totaled my 2016 stage 2 ST last night, only had it for a week..... Pretty fucking pissed off, I know insurance is going to fuck me!

You gotta feather the throttle in first. Hard not to spin tires in first but if you can learn where you start to lose grip and keep it just under that’s they can take off. Not easy to launch though

If you are looking to get an RS or STI. Imo id get the RS. But for 30k id pick up a 6th Gen SS or coyote car. Good luck on the choice.
